Dive bar? Maybe… but to me it’s like a home. No nonsense, no frill, just great company

After 6 days in town from Wisconsin, we really needed someplace that felt more like home to watch the Packer games. After a Google search, I found info on Kettle of Fish. A cozy bar filled with Packer Fans!!! The super friendly owner was running around cheering on the Packers & serving Wisconsin Brats. Packer fans in every seat & standing in every spot available. If you are from Wisconsin, in NYC& a Packer fan, this place is Home.

Visiting from California I was a very excited Packer fan when I found out there was a Packer bar in NY! It’s very small but everyone was so pleasant! The only downside was the rude bar tender with the Marge Simpson hair and bad makeup. She did not look happy to be working. When asked what type of drink she recommended she replied«whatever you want!» Shortly after this another friend of mine went to pay her tab. She put $ 0 on the tip because she had cash in her wallet. Before she could even reach for her wallet the bar tender said something to the nature of, «no tip? Wow! Thanks!» When my friend told me this I was in shock. She didn’t even give my poor friend a chance to reach for her wallet. It’s people like this that are miserable with their jobs and want to ruin other people’s day. Misery loves company. But other than the lady with the bad hair and makeup I had a great experience at the bar. Packer fans are wonderful people to be around! Go pack go!!!

Certainly has a home town bar vibe to it. The drinks were mixed pretty well and the atmosphere was pretty good. I do emphasize on the home tome vibe tho. Felt like a high school reunion after party but this was my first time going. Certainly going back to give it another go.

This place is my home away from home. I’ve been a regular on football days for the past 6 years, and I consider the staff and the friends I’ve made there family. I live in Boston now, and Kettle is the only thing I miss about NYC. Full disclosure: The Kettle experience on Packer gameday is not for the faint of heart. If you need to be coddled and spoiled, or you need to be able to sit down and have a view of a big ass TV’s and a big food menu… go somewhere else. Yes, Kettle is bare bones, but the whole point is to come together with other Packer fans and cheer on our team. It’s a community. Yes, to get in for a game, be prepared to get in line outside the bar at least one hour before they open. WHY? Because of all the regulars who are there EVERYSINGLEWEEK, RAIN or SHINE, TWOHOURS before they open. Some of these people have been coming for 10 years! We love spending time with each other and«tailgating» on Christopher Street. When I first started coming to Kettle, I got in line all by myself, and usually ended up sitting on the floor back by the fireplace. I didn’t care. I just loved being with other fans, and meeting new people! Especially visitors! The fans on the couch were always really kind about lending me a pillow to sit on. The waitresses that work the back(Tara when I first started, now Dana) are hard core and work their asses off to get people drinks and brats. They are amazing. But please… don’t get in their way. Don’t be jerks. They have work to do. A couple years later I found myself regularly standing in the bar area. Yeah, it’s crazy, but who cares? PACKERS! If you don’t like crowds, then don’t go here. It’s ok. I was really fortunate to befriend a guy at the bar a couple years ago, and so now, I have the opportunity to sit at the bar with a great group of people who are now my good friends(but when a lot of our group is there, some of us still have to stand… that’s how it works!). They have a great little beer list with some midwestern representation. Tara and Terry rock it out every Sunday. I’ve never met bartenders who work harder. Please don’t be jerks to them.(Break it down, Terry!) The only food they sell on game day is Usinger brats straight from Wisconsin. Ketchup? Mustard? Everything? Those are your options. Moving on. But you are always welcome to bring whatever food you want into the bar and there’s no shortage of places in the village that serve food. So if you’re a Packer fan looking for a place to watch the game? I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s magical. My only advice? Be prepared, be positive, be nice — and you will have the best time. Kettle will be good to you. Thanks, Patrick and Adrian, for taking good care of us.

Great Divey/Basement type of bar. Everyone that I have brought here enjoyes the chilled out vibe compared to other more rowdy bars nearby. Good place to bring friends and or date(If she isn’t the Gold digger type, ha) Comfortable couches and places to just relax and unwind. It def. has that basement sort of thing going for it. The lights and the low lighting give it that effect. It is surprisingly not too loud. They have Pinball machine & old school Mrs. Pac-Man game. Bottles of Miller High Life always on the ready & taste great here. Upside: — Darts are FREE to play they just hold your ID. — This pub is Across the street from the(1) Train (I’ll update with more info)

Great dive bar for Packers fans– that’s for sure. It gets very crowded on game days(obviously) but was never ignored by the bartenders. Tip generously(second obviously) and get the brats — they’re amazing. Be prepared to: hear«The Bears Still Suck» songs all night long, wait in line to get in on Packers game days, and pay a cover charge of $ 12 Pros: cover charge will come with two drink ticket vouchers so you’re guaranteed two drinks, it’s a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, plus since they don’t have a full gastropub menu they allow outside food and delivery lol

Came here for a packer game while in town. Wow, what an experience! First, get in line early. I mean an hour or more early. We came an hour early and managed to snag a good standing spot. Probably should have gotten here 1.5 hours early for a table. Drinks are decent, but I love how you can bring your own food. Had their vegetarian brats while watching the game and they were pretty good… and from Wisconsin! It’s an electric atmosphere, but it’s shoulder to shoulder so be warned. A packer fan must if you’re in NYC.

Being an alumni and missing college football game days, I will go to any bar to watch my Wisconsin badger football games. I usually go to the same 2 bars but decided to switch it up this past weekend. I had been told of kettle of fish, a Green Bay packers bar, and they play the badger games on Saturday. Right in the heart of Greenwich village I decided to check it out. We walk in and surprisingly it’s dead empty. That’s very unusual for badger bars considering all Wisconsinites love their beer. It’s a very cool ambiance inside, when you turn the corner there are comfy couches and a huge area to play darts. Drinks are pretty cheap, all the beers were under $ 6. The biggest problem was that we get there already hungry, and they don’t serve food. What kind of place that claims they are a sports bar doesn’t sell food?! People were even ordering in food to the bar from nearby restaurants which too me seems a bit odd. Now I have a feeling why the place was so empty. All in all, it’s a cute spot, but I like food with my beer and football, so probably won’t be back.

Fun dive bar that has a very laid back vibe. Wouldn’t say it’s an ideal spot for something like a date, but if you’re meeting up with some of your buddies, this spot is A-ok. Sometimes when a place keeps things simple as Kettle of Fish does, it just works. Prices are more or less on the inexpensive side. The only drawback is that there is no food, so you have to either bring your own or go someplace else before or after that serves food.

I was a bit skeptical at first but my wife convinced me to give them a try and we did. The bartenders were so nice and made you feel very welcoming. They have resonably priced drinks for the west village! The jukebox was pretty cool too and made the bar feel very authentic. Did I mention they have amazingly clean bathrooms. They also have darts in the back. I would def recommend this place if your looking to have a drink and just relax!

I’ll keep this short since so many others have reviewed the place. Came for a friends birthday recently, I really liked it here. It was very cozy, a little warm once it started to fill up. Drinks were decently priced and really strong. We didn’t order any food, but a couple other parties did. They don’t have their own food, you can order out and have it delivered which is kind of neat. They also had a large area with dart boards which was cool. I would definitely come back again.

As far as hole-in-the-wall, underground pubs which offer a decent beer selection go, it’s a great place to hang out with friends! For those who like to play darts or gather in cozy corners, it’s a perfect spot. You can also order in food or bring your own to nosh on as no there is no dining fare.

This cozy underground Packers bar in the heart of the West village is a place to remember. A true dive bar from front to back, Kettle and Fish has a very warm and welcoming environment overall. A bit deceiving at first, but the bar is much bigger that it looks with its C shaped layout. If you get to the other half of it you’ll be pleasantly surprised with a great seating area with sofas/love seats for larger groups, a couple dart boards, and of course… some PacMan! I didn’t try any food or cocktails, but had numerous orders of draft and bottled beers throughout the night haha. Prices were average too. $ 5 – 7. Staff also seemed nice enough for tips considering the swarms of people raining down on this place Friday night. Would definitely return again if I was in the area, and recommend Kettle and Fish to my fellow Unilocalers.

Great to have a Packers bar in the city. Pretty small dive bar which gets extremely packed for Packers games. Even standing room gets too packed and the tv’s are pretty small. People at the door, especially the older lady, are friendly while the bartenders and employees inside tend to have little to no patience. Prices are not bad, starting around $ 4 for domestics. They do sometimes pass out cheese and crackers during the games, which is a nice touch.

It’s got all the cozy aesthetics you’d hope for in a casual west village bar – twinkly lights, couches, dark corners, uneven wooden floors, vintage video games, quirky antique ephemera, and a general air of authenticity. That said, it doesn’t really specialize in anything, there are better options for craft beer, cocktails, or food nearby; but if all your looking for is a cozy bar with a W. village aesthetic that doesn’t break the bank, then there are few better options.

I’m a sucker for a little dive bar, especially when it isn’t in my own city. And after a weekend of swanky, chic, trendy clubs and restaurants in Midtown, I was ready for a good hole-in-the-wall. Kettle of Fish delivered. Not only does the name suggest a rowdy round of drunken wordplay, but its environment beckons its imbibers to shake off their Manhattan armor and chill the eff out at a worn stool at the bar and just relax. The drink prices are substantially lower than anywhere else we visited, and the bartenders are swift, immune to the drunks, and pour a mean gin and soda. The Kettle’s only downfall, and it’s a big one, is it’s a Packers bar. WTF, Kettle. I get it… Packers fans outside of Wisconsin need a place to go, but wouldn’t NYC’s sewers suffice? Maybe an old YMCA hostel? I’m disappointed.

As dive bars go, this one is pretty awesome. I was in for some holiday day drinking and the few beers I had here was quite a pleasant experience. First, the bartender was really nice and accommodating letting me sample some beers before making my decision. Second, the price was solid at this West Village dive bar running you about $ 6 for a craft beer pint. Lastly, the buyback. The bartender offered to pick up our third beer. Why thank you. It’s rare these days when the random NYC bartender offers to buy ya a drink, so it was super appreciated. I definitely recommend if in the area, stopping by to this iconic West Village bar. It’s been here for the past 4 or 5 decades and I see why: service with some kind words and smile. It’s a pretty big space so great for medium sized groups as well! Cheers!
