i try not to walk by this shop too much because i cannot go in without buying something. this john’s signature stuff and it is worth the price. incredible fabrics and attention to detail — check out the nuance with patches on many of the shirts. but mostly i like the attention to masculinity in the cuts. no skinny jeans here.

It’s good to see John Bartlett designing menswear again! I loved his line back in the 90s. So sexy it was. He’s now opened an eponymous boutique on 7th Avenue South, a few blocks north of Sheridan Square. His aesthetic isn’t quite what it was — it’s a bit more Ralph Lauren, a bit less sexy gay muscle guy — but it’s not like all the sass is gone, and I imagine that this is probably a bit more salable. A piecework sportcoat(grey flannel, forest green corduroy), a turtleneck sweater with the cables going sideways. and a cabled-sweater-sleeve scarf were among the things that caught my eye. Definitely worth a visit! (NB The neighborhood listed for this is wrong — it’s in Manhattan’s West Village, not Brooklyn’s Park Slope.) EDIT: after a few months, it seems that Bartlett’s forte is design, not fabrication. Caveat emptor.
