I wasn’t overly impressed with this place. Service is extremely friendly and attentive — perhaps overly so. It’s a thin line. It smelled kinda like some sort of industrial cleaner in here. Maybe that smell has gone away since the time I visited but it was pretty off-putting and unappetizing. I ordered gyoza and miso soup — standard, good, hard to mess up. No complaints there. The sweet potato tempura roll I ordered was… Not good. The sweet potato and tempura crust around it both tasted kinda mushy and stale. I would recommend trying Ooki over this place — it’s just a few blocks down.

A decent place. Not great, but fine for the neighborhood. I would return, if I were around there. The fish is fresh. The quantities are acceptable. Nothing much else to report. It’s good to have these places around.

I have lived in Yorkville basically all my life and have been going to Isohama since it opened, oh say 20 years. It is hands down the best Japanese restaurant in the area. They are consistent in all areas, don’t jack up their prices, always friendly, CLEAN. In sum, you know what you will get. When I need a place for either 2 or a group, I always fall back on Isohama. Please, never change and never close. My favorite rolls are the 2 house ones.

This is an example of how a neighborhood joint will occasionally get graded on a curve in its favor by locals who are simply appreciative that it’s there. Isohama is fine for those desperate for sushi delivery but it is otherwise an unpleasant experience. The food is bested by most supermarket sushi and the room is without any appeal. On the plus side, the staff is friendly and the prices are low which keeps it from being one star.

This place can help you score some points with the right person. The quality and experience for the price was quite affordable. Service is attentive but not intrusive, the mood lighting is spot on and the seating is spaced out well enough so that you can have a sense of privacy in your conversation, if desired. Hot towel service to start is a great way to leave a good impression – which they do. The décor is simple, yet cozy and inviting, but most importantly clean and well coordinated. Single access restrooms are near the rear of the restaurant. The sushi at this place is not only fresh but it is also moist. Have you ever eaten a sushi roll that made you thirsty for water? This is not it. We started off with the following: Miso soup — ample tofu and seaweed were served Salad — as to be expected Pink Lady appetizer — can be a meal on it’s own and is delicious Eel over rice — delicious and filling Crunchy Maki combination — Pales in comparison to the Pink Lady, so choose wisely Green tea ice cream — great palate cleanser The menu boasts a number of deals, specials and a la carte dishes that should meet your needs. One can sit at the sushi bar or the dining room. However, I would call ahead if bringing a group larger than 6 – 8 to ensure they can accommodate a group of that size. Definitely recommended and I will return.

Sushi is ok. Definitely not my go-to place, but not bad if you are nearby and just looking for a quick bite.

Had a few take out lunch specials and dinner(sushi lunch, chicken katsu, katsudon) and it was just OK– fresh ingredients, OK-taste but overpriced in my opinion. Go there when you are hungry and you won’t be so disappointed.

This is a gem… freshest tuna I had. They have awesome suggestions for appetizer, quite unique. Vivi took care of us and had a great dining experience! !! Plus awesome pineapple to finish off the meal. If you are in this neighborhood, you should check it out.

Just had my sushi fix. Fatty tuna, yellow tail and sea urchin. When ever I’m in the city Isohama is my first foodie stop. The sushi quality/price out beats all of the most expensive Japanese restaurants in town. Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.

Tried their Miso Soup and Maguro, pretty good! Not sure if my palate has properly adjusted to the Maguro though. I hear it’s the roughest of the sushi types. Either way, the texture and taste was again– top notch, much better than what I’ve had from other places! I’ve now ordered quite a few times– I think I’m actually addicted. I-it’s only been 4 times in the last few weeks… uh. Yeah.

One of my favorite sushi places in town so far! Prices are reasonable, the salmon and tuna are absolutely fantastic and green tea is for free. You’ll get warm hand towels for starters, which is pretty cool. Very nice staff and very nice atmosphere. Will definitely come again!

I have been going to Isohama for many years. By far the best sushi in NYC, excellent quality, professional serving staff and A+ in cleanliness. I was outraged at the tacky customers remarks with the poopy diaper incident. I sympathize with all the customers who were inconvenienced by that selfish couples lack of respect for others. Isohama is First Class dining all the way!

Don’t come here if you have a child in diapers. When a restaurant has no changing table and we’re on a bench seat, we will usually discreetly change her diaper on the bench seat, behind the table and out of sight. The alternative is to change her on the bathroom floor, definitely not a clean or safe place to put her. We understand this is not ideal, but it’s a tough situation and we are discreet about it. In this case though, one of the staff actually accosted us on the street as we left. He was shouting and abusive, with no understanding or sympathy for our situation. We used to like this place. We won’t be coming back.

Many more vegetarian options than most sushi restaurants. And they are good, too! Tempura Banana is a can’t miss!

Decent sushi place on the Upper East Side, where good sushi is harder to find. I tried a variety of sushi rolls from here and they all seemed relatively fresh. Not overpriced either, but not cheap as well. The best deal is the lunch special where you can get teriyaki or noodle dishes or two sushi rolls for less than $ 10.

Great ambiance, great food and great prices. Tried them for the first time for lunch and I must say its one of the best lunch special deals for quality sushi in Upper East Side. For $ 9 you can choose any two rolls, a Miso soup and a summer salad with the dressing. I chose the Avocado Salmon Roll and the Spicy Tuna The rolls were fantastic and the salad.hmmm.had the best sesame dressing ever. I could just drink the dressing off the cup, it was so daughters favorite food is sushi and the pickled ginger that comes with it. She finished off 6 pieces out of the 10 and that’s probably the most she has ever eaten. Typically she would eat like the end she was like mamma this was the bestest sushi ever and I couldn’t help but agree that it was really really only gripe was the spicy tuna did not have any kick at all not even a tiny bit. Maybe the spicy mayo was not that hot. And compared to the avocado salmon roll, the spicy tuna was too thin. But the fish inside tasted so good that all the more reason I wish it was more fishy. This is definitely one of my favorite lunch spots for a quick takeout. The décor inside is beautiful and I would love to come and enjoy the service and the food with some nice chilled sake, wish I had the luxury of time. Btw, while we were waiting for our order, Linda even gave my daughter two lollipops which we enjoyed on our way home. Thanks Linda.

The service is so friendly! We ordered and kept ordering and our waitress never gave us an attitude. She was very veryyy friendly. Also poured my sake for me! The ambiance is great! It’s dimly lit which is absolutely perfect for a date or a night out with your girls to chat over sushi. It’s pretty quiet here but there are a good amount of customers even after dinner hours. There is much privacy, as there are walls and curtains that sort of block off a few tables. The food here is a bit pricey, where a California roll costs 5 dollars, and a Kani salad 5.5, which you can probably find for fifty percent off that price in Brooklyn or Chinatown. But, you’re in the upper east side and these are the prices. However, take a look at their lunch menu which is pretty cheap and includes a lot. Also if you come during dinner hours(5−7pm) they have a menu for you as well, packed with a lot of stuff for only 14.50. Im not sure if it’s included on the menu at Unilocal, but they have a lot of selections for these special meals. The sushi itself didn’t seem like it was greatly made, but it was yummy. The Kani salad and miso soup, much like any other. But my waitress did pour my sake, and my friends too when I asked for another cup. Very friendly and polite staff. It was a great dinner, waitresses never rushed me to leave, and most people certainly weren’t leaving until much later as the atmosphere was so laid back.
