This place was amazing! Fabulous food, great service and very nice manager Simon(sorry if it’s not correct name). I’m very recommended that place, good to be back!

Dined out here with a large group for business. Overall a pleasant evening with some very nice dishes. This is a white table cloth restaurant so has that fine dining atmosphere. Staff and service was top notch. No gaps there. For appetizers we chose a wide selection. I indulged in mussels, fresh mozzarella and frisée salad. The best dish was the veal and beef meatballs wrapped in cabbage. For main entrée I stayed in the veal theme and ordered the veal braciola. It wasn’t quite as good as my Mom’s but it was worthy of 4 stars. Flavor and texture were very good and sides of parsnip purée and steamed green beans were light and flavorful. Opted out of dessert but the mini biscotti sliced thin as the after dinner service were delicious. Really nice wine menu focused on Italian wines. Space was cozy and inviting with a boutique style feel.

Delicious. Started off with the burrata special — crazy good. Then had the pacherri pasta which was phenomenal. Loved every bite. Service was great, space was nice and can’t wait to go back!

Nice new location, very good service, but prices(especially for just lunch) were way too expensive. Waiter offered a white wine for Lunch that was $ 30 a Glass, really! Pastas were good, but unless it’s an expense account lunch, keep away.

I have to say, this restaurant was disappointing. Everybody’s meal(I had 10 people) was OK. The service was good, how they served all 10 of us at the same time is impressive but the steak for 2 wasn’t worth $ 99.00 and the veal dish was over cooked and my lamb chops were undercooked. None of us sent it back, but for the price and the fact we are in NYC, I’d expect better than that. I appreciate them getting me a table for so many people… I will say, it was loud. I had to do a brief speech since it was a business dinner and really couldn’t because of the noise.

High class beauty and dining. Service is impeccable. Went around 7:30pm on a Tuesday, a lot of business dinner meetings. Not such a date spot at that time. Dishes are kind of small, but so so so good and worth it. Small tip, if it’s freezing out, try and get a table towards the back of the restaurant as you WILL feel that cold breeze every time someone walks in or out.

What an incredible experience! The food was to die for, the waiter extraordinarily nice and atmosphere incredible. It was very expensive but expected given its amazing location and quality of food served. Such an enjoyable night.

Fantastic and superb food, the eggplant side dish is the best I have ever had, light charred smoky flavor. Even the bread service is exceptional with excellent evoo, small touches which make it clear this place aims to exceed. Pasta was cooked perfect, very fresh and light flavor, everything was in balance. I was solo and ate in the bar, which is quiet and would be my return choice as the dining room is loud. Likely coming back tomorrow night just for the eggplant!

After trying the sister restaurant near Lincoln Center we were encouraged to try this restaurant. Supposedly it is excellent southern Italian. It’s neither excellent or much of a southern Italian restaurant(go to Angelos on Mulberry Street for southern Italian). The tomato and cucumber salad was below anything you’d get at a diner. The pasta with seafood was horrible and when I(three times) asked the waiter if the Dover sole came with skin he assured me it did.(I find eating fish with the skin and bones gives an added flavort). Of course it came without any skin. I sent it back at which point he disappeared for the evening. All in all the food was bad the service terrible and I certainly would not recommend anybody ever go there nor would t I ever return

Awful. Started with a cauliflower and shrimp(Argentinian) salad… Tasted like luke warm ocean water that sat under the sun. The cauliflower was… Cauliflower. Octopus… Two pieces of octopus and a lot of olives and this was awful. Lobster ravioli… Wholefoods or maybe even costco’s lobster ravioli may be extravagantly better! The presentation was terrible. Lobster was over cooked and dry but the ravioli noodle was good! Silver lining. My sons kid’s tomato pasta was perfect, al dente! Cheese platter was a safe order! «Soufflé» was NOT soufflé it was more of a cold molten lava cake. Very FAR from a traditional soufflé and or close to a warm chocolate baked cakes with oozing chocolate goodness. Service… Ai ya ya… Very entitled and careless staff. If one must eat there… The cheese was safe, lol. One star simply to be able to leave a review. This was recommended to us by the Peninsula hotel… Should of gone to Carbone!

This review is for VISITORS: I do not pretend living in Tennessee to have the breadth of knowledge of true Italian food that Unilocalers in NYC have. One of the reasons I love Unilocal is a) I would have never found this place on my own. And it was 500 feet from my hotel! And b) just read Bill’s post below. He ordered dinner for me! I too had the Paccheri alla Genovese and it changed my cooking life. I will learn to make this. Much like duck ragu, I had no idea this was even a thing. But I will learn it. Just go there and order it. Don’t overthink it. The space is gorgeous, best service imaginable, and order the Cassata cake for dessert. This is not a time to get cute.

Incredible southern Italian cuisine! What a gem! hidden in Rockefeller town home. Ask for Denise as your server: knowledgeable, personable, unobtrusive. Food is simple, but fresh and prepared from superior ingredients. Worth coming back! Thank you!

When I saw this only was rated 4 stars I felt the need to leave a review… Il gattopardo is simply amazing. I’ve been at least 6 times both when it was at the old location(which I believe is now mozzarella + vino) and the newer one. The service is always wonderful. The arancini(rice balls) they bring out are so amazing. The burrata, meatballs wrapped in cabbage and the baby octopus are some of my favorite appetizers. As far as the pasta it is cooked perfectly. If you have the money for the fresh truffle pasta which is often a special– it’s probably the best thing you will eat in your entire life. I also had the paccheri pasta with Genovese sauce last night– also delicious. They usually have fresh branzino and/or Dover sole. Which they cook properly(whole fish) and present to you before deboning it for you — it will melt in your mouth. As far as desserts– the cassata, chocolate soufflé, beignets, and baba rum are all to die for. I really do not even have the slightest bad thing to say about this place. My family is Italian and with multiple trips to Italy– I know good Italian. And this is it. You will not be disappointed. For now I’m just excited for the next time I get to eat there again.

Il Gattopardo, you’re invading my dreams… I went to this restaurant completely on a tip. I always have these people, you«haveta» try«X» restaurant, the Jalapeño Poppers changed my life! Yeah… I think not. When my Italian friends tell me to put a Italian restaurant on my short list, there isn’t any questions asked. I changed my reservation to Il Gattopardo. While making the reservation I told the hostess we’re celebrating so please give us a nice, quite table. We walk in and are greeted with Prosecco? Now that was just a classy move. A very professional waiter greets us. He starts explaining the specials. I tell him its my first time here and I want to try the pasta, the specialty of the house. I’d also like to match my Italian wine to this dish. Very well sir and off he goes. In Italy, every town is know for something. They make a special pasta by hand in Italian region of Emilia. And not by machine. People would revolt and be mocked if they put their name on this pasta made in a machine. It’s what we call Tortellini. The Italians use women with delicate features to roll by hand each Tortellini. la passione! This is what I’m looking for at Il Gattopardo, la passione. While waiting, the chef sent out a small order of Arancini di Riso commonly referred to as rice balls.(Lotsa love being shown to us, very classy) I started with the poached baby octopus over polenta. Swooning! Served with fresh tomato sauce, this was a hearty dish. Now comes the star of the show, the Paccheri alla Genovese. I’m looking at this dish, its made with love. The fresh Paccheri was made Al dente. Now Al dente to some Italian restaurants is very hard. Not so with the Il Gattopardo Paccheri. Think of a really wide ziti shape, that’s Paccheri. The made in house Paccheri was firm with a little grab. I’ve been to places, their pasta is too hard. This was made just right. The alla Genovese is what is making my knees buckle, I’ve been saying for years that NYC Italian restaurants make Italian food more creamy, more French. The alla Genovese portion of this dish was rustic. Executed perfectly, the entire dish was just spot on. Great Italian food that you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend the Paccheri alla Genovese. I’m pretty packed out at this point, I’m going to order an espresso and call it a night. Our waiter recommends the cassata cake. I ask if its a Brooklyn cassata or a recipe from Sicily? It’s more Sicilian sir and our speciality. Oh baby… Cassata cake from Brooklyn is not an every day dessert. It’s more for birthdays and other celebrations. Cassata cake from Sicily is just a simple ricotta based dessert. And man oh man do they get their cassata on at Il Gattopardo. Not overly sweet but just the right amount of everything makes this dessert a grand slam. Just a bit of history, Il Gattopardo used to be Gov Rockefellers house! And this place is huge! Walking out, we’re greeted by John Carlo and a bag of biscotti? We start talking, I thank him for the Prosecco and the wonderful meal we had. Its what we do us Italians, we keep giving. Thanks for the wonderful service and food, it made for a perfect night. 10 Unilocal stars for Il Gattopardo

This place is pretty good however not my favorite nyc spot but I guess there are not that many options in midtown Manhattan. I Started out with the branzino crudo which was pretty good but not amazing, honestly a bit bland. I then had the shellfish pasta which was delicious! My hubby started with the burrata special which he loved however the lasagna he ordered was so awful he sagas to send it back which he NEVER does. He got the pasta with Genovese sauce instead which he said was delicious. We shared a molten chocolate cake for dessert which was very good.

How can you make the humble sea bass and some greens delectable. Add to it the chick pea soup, fettuccine, grilled egg plant salad with mozzarella and an assorted bread basket. And apparently you can have a perfect lunch. Love the bistro feel. Staff is super friendly. Tip: make reservations and for sure ask for your table not to be in the back of the restaurant next to the kitchen door. It takes away some of the ambience feel of the place.

Enjoyed my second NY dinner here at Il Gattopardo. I was craving some good Italian food during my stay and the concierge at NY Palace recommended them as 1 of two places to go. Everything we had was delicious and homemade. The place can be a little hard to see from the street. It’s tucked underneath a building, so look carefully for the sign. There is small patio seating outdoors for lovely weather days. We started with a glass of chianti which was delectably good. We also received a sampler plate of Eggplant and Buffalo Ricotta cakes and some spinach pastries. Both were excellent! We each ordered appetizers. I ordered their Parmigiana of Zucchini with smoked mozzarella, fresh tomato sauce and basil, and let me tell you! If I could have ordered a large plate of this as my dinner, I would! it was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever sampled. My friend ordered the Buffalo Mozzarella«in carrozza» with a light anchovy sauce. It was fresh and delicious as well, but the other was hands-down my favorite. For dinner, I enjoyed the Mafaldine pasta with buffalo ricotta in a San Marzano tomato sauce and fresh herbs. Mafaldine pasta is a long, spiral pasta, so it held on to the sauce very well. Incredible flavor that sauce was! My friend had the Risotto and Pasta del giorno(offered at Market rate), and she was delightfully pleased! We had excellent service. Never ran low on water, wine or bread. I would definitely recommend eating at Il Gattopardo!

Last time I came here(which was in October 2014) I had the pleasure of dining for dinner. This time around, I enjoyed a delicious brunch! The restaurant itself is located in a «basement» area and has two floors. The upper level is for dinner dining and the lower level is for brunch. They created an atrium in between 2 buildings and have tables with umbrellas to give it the brunch vibe. I had the French Toast which had apples cooked down in cinnamon and sugar. My relative ordered the vongole pasta which is absolutely delicious. It has clams and the pasta is cooked a perfect al dente. The waitors and restaurant manager are all very knowledgeable and you will receive the best service. Last time I was here, I also had their steak. Absolutely amazing. Meat was cooked medium rare and was juicy and tender. I always make it a priority to visit this restaurant everytime I am in NY

When an out of town friend dropped by and wanted to take me out to eat, I didn’t expect this. Quietly nestled behind the rush of MOMA this venue has every type of seating you could ask for, Outdoor option includes patio seating for a quiet café feeling, garden patio if you like a bit of eau de flor. Indoor seating options, at the bar zipping with life. Small tables for four very trendy feel. Felt like very clean and European. Wine…whomever told you that cheap wine taste just as good as quality wine.. Was lying. Maybe it’s the location but this was a great few glasses. In the upper end of the pricing this place is good.

I come from the foodie scene so I am open to extraordinary food that is independent of the price or environment. Gattopardo is adult, sophisticated, and the food is A. Not A+, but A indeed. We had the orchiaetta, the chicken, and the cod fish. Orchiaetta was A+, chicken was B+, and cod fish was C. Wine selection is great. Dessert was fantastic. Service was okay. Hosts and waitstaff were kind of disengaged. Beautiful space. Lots of Louboutin, Chanel, and brow lifts. Great people watching. I would come back just to impress someone. Would go elsewhere for a failproof meal :)

We stumbled upon this hole in the wall restaurant during a recent trip and we were disappointed. We came for dinner and seeing the tables outside, we thought it would be nice to sit out there. The hostess was ready to accommodate our outside seating request until a man, presumably the manager looked at us and said the outdoor seating was reserved and had us seated in the back corner of the restaurant, right near the kitchen. At first we didn’t think anything of it but then we noticed the other patrons sitting around us, a family with kids, an older couple and eventually another touristy looking couple. It was like we were in the land of misfits. When we were leaving there was no one outside so it made us pretty skeptical as to if those tables were actually reserved. Anyhow, the service staff was actually very attentive, someone was always there to refill your water or clear your plate right away but the food itself wasn’t very good. My pasta was oily and the meatloaf looked like a pile of poop on top of mashed potatoes. So although the place itself is cute and the service staff is excellent, the feeling we weren’t good enough to dine there and the food itself makes me say skip this place.

Our entire evening was extremely enjoyable. The service was great, from when we were hosted upon entering, to taking our orders, to clearing our table and exiting the restaurant. Everyone was welcoming and professional. The food was AWESOME. We enjoyed everything we ordered, but were unfortunately too full for dessert. We will be back and I look forward to saving room for dessert next time. We ordered the crispy salad, one of their special appetizers of mozz, tomatoes and eggplant, their meatballs stuffed in cabbage, the rabbit, and an amazing pasta. Everything was flavorful. The rabbit was cooked perfectly. I liked that while my husband and I ordered multiple dishes to share, they split their portions for us and gave us our own plates. Saved us from doing the work and making a mess at the table. We will definitely be back!

Stopped in here for a group brunch on Saturday. This place is easy to miss as it isn’t well marked and the entrance is on the basement level, under a set of stairs. Once you enter, the main seating area is another floor down. This is located in a large room which goes up about three stories. The place itself is very neat with umbrellas, you feel as though you’re dining outdoors even though you’re inside. Though they have a full bar, they have no drink menu. I ordered a vodka martini which was nicely made. We shared the mussles and French toast. The mussles were more of a bean soup with a few mussles scattered on top. The French toast was good. The apples which accompanies it were especially tasty. In addition to the food, we were provided with a bread basket with a good pumpernickel as well as complimentary cookies and biscotte, there were ok. Our meal was rather pricey and the food wasn’t that great. The service was mediocre at best.
