Fun fact: I barely considered soup a competent food dish before this place. I’m a meat and potatoes kind of gal and for years no one could sell me on tiny bits of meat and broth. Soup just lacked the substance I desired. Then I started working in Chelsea, decided to change up my diet, and gave soup a second try when I realized Hale and Hearty was a solid choice for lunch due to the distance. There are no regrets whatsoever. I will come out and say that I love their soup. The daily specials are always something to look forward to, especially if I see a favorite. Lobster bisque? I’m on it. No flavors are ever too sweet, too salty, but always wondrous combinations of seasonings, veggies, and meat. Yes, there’s some that I find a little less enjoyable, but I have yet to get something that’s inedible. Plus, their delivery is SUPERB. Nothing ever takes long, the temperature is nice and hot, and my orders are always correct. Once they called to inform me they were out of the soup I desired and not only did I get a replacement that was a different price point for the same amount, I was given a free size upgrade, and a cookie! The cookie was completely unexpected(and so freaking moist), but it’s those little things! Hale and Hearty, keep being awesome. P.S: Please sell those Ninja Ginger chips as long as you can, they’re pretty cray!

I don’t have a cold, but if I did I’m sure this soup would cure it! I had the chicken vegetable with noodles(or you can add couscous) and it was very filling. The taste was almost homemade and they didn’t skimp out on the vegetables/shredded chicken. In addition to this they have a huge variety of other soups, salads and sandwiches which all looked great. They add a free bag of oyster crackers to every purchase. Highly recommend, but a little pricey.

Merely adequate. It’s fine if you need food. No awards will be given. Definitely sample first.

Went to Hale & Hearty to grab something quick for lunch. When I ask which soups were gluten-free I was told I could«walk over and look myself». I was considering the Potato and Four Cheese soup and before I could make my decision it was ready poured into a bowl. It wasn’t until the cashier could see how flustered I was that I was asked if I wanted to sample it. I purchased the soup. It has a good flavor. However, there are no real potato chunks like I was hoping. It has a similar texture to baby food. Will not be returning to this location in the future. Best of luck!

Amazing! I have only ever ordered delivery but their entire delivery team is so nice, I have never waited more than 30 minutes for an order. I ordered a soup that was out for the day, they called me right away to tell me and offered something similar. Female on the line was so sweet. If you are looking for really yummy sandwiches and soups, along with a quick delivery then definitely order here!

This place has forever lost my business. While I was getting ready to pay, one of the cashiers(who, by the way, was not even ringing me up), went out of their way to give me the biggest attitude I’ve ever received at a retail establishment. I work in the building, and asked for the building discount because I’d recently received one. She went out of her way to tell me how wrong I was, how what I was saying didn’t make any sense because«it wouldn’t go through,» etc. When I politely said that somehow, someone the previous week had made it work, she got even more adamant and copped even more of an attitude. The lines are long, the soups and salads are bland, and the staff is beyond rude. Skip it, for sure.

Many of the soups are delicious. My favorite is the Senegalese Chicken and the Chicken & Corn chowder. The sandwiches leave something to be desired. I come in here for lunch and it tends to be very crowded. This is also prime time to observe people try as many as 5 soups with these little cups and dwell over the nuances of how much pepper or kale is in their soup while a line of 50 people is behind them. This is not a tasting laboratory. Order your soup and let us get back to work.

My coworker loves the salads from Hale and Hearty so we’ve been coming here at least twice a week for lunch. I always order the combo, which comes with a small soup and half of a sandwich. My favorite soup is the cream of tomato. I’ve tried the tomato and basil but find it too sweet. All of the Hale and Hearty sandwiches are delicious. I especially love the mozzarella and avocado one one as well as the chipotle chicken. One of the downsides is that the line is super long. The entire store is always really crowded and hectic. They have a weird system where the salad and soup/sandwich lines merge into one. One of the workers was extremely rude to me at the sandwich section of the restaurant. She actually yelled at me when I told her that the sandwich she gave me wasn’t the one I asked for. It’s unfortunate that a negative experience can ruin one of my favorite restaurants to go to for lunch.

I love the variety. So far, I’ve had the vegetarian split pea soup. My wife had the curry chicken. Both good choices

Hale and hearty has the best sandwiches — very fresh in a nice bread + huge variety. Great selection of soups: not salty, taste natural like your grandmother’s ones. Don’t let the prices shy you away remember it is Chelsea Nyc and they have like 10 employees. They offer free medium soup after you bought 10 times, offering medium size instead of large sound kinda greedy — it’s the only turn off for me. Hope to be helpful …

Visited this Hale and Hearty location during the lunch rush! The lines moved pretty fast and the staff is attentive. I ordered the Mac and Cheese with Beef soup. So fattening, but delicious none the less :). Tip: Know what you want to order before you show up! The line moves quickly and you dont’t want to be the person holding the line up! Tip#2– Check out the Hale and Hearty website to see their menu for that day at the specific location. It changes everyday :) Enjoy! :)

I ordered a chicken club sandwich. I’m sold a sandwich. The sandwich has no bacon. Employees give me attitude when I ask for bacon on my chicken club sandwich. Thanks for valuing my business.

Excellent in that they have a wide variety of soup and sandwich selections. I don’t know about their other locations but this one was packed. Although there was a long line, they were taking order quite fast. So fast I could not make up my mind of what soup to get. I was going to grab salad but since it was so cold today, I decided to go with soup during my lunch break. Like I said, great selection. Soups and sandwiches were mediocre; nothing special. Panera bread tasted better and more reasonable priced than Hearty Soups. For the soup combo, you can choose between small salad or half sandwich with small soup whereas at Panera Bread, they also give you an additional choice of chips, fruit, or bread. Located inside Chealsy Market which means no place to sit. Fortunately I found a place to sit after circling around.

So good on a cold day! I had a chicken vegetable one with orzo added. Tasty and filling. My 2nd time there, plan to go back next time I’m in NYC.

I’ve been going to this hale and hearty for 11 years. You get bored with the same food over a long period of time. Grabbed a soup and salad after months of doing other lunches and wow, I think I’m done with these guys. Charleston Crab soup tasted like stale porridge with a vague aftertaste of fish juice. The ½ chicken sandwich, with mozzarella cheese and sun dried tomatoes tasted like cardboard, filled with packing peanuts. Don’t assume we will continue to purchase your products if they are poorly made. Someone/some group had to taste test these, right? All for $ 12.49 — threw it away after a few bites.

Whenever I want a hot cup of soup, I head over to Hale & Hearty. Being that my studio classes are right across the street from Chelsea Market, it’s an easy walk. They have an excellent selection of soups. I never walk without finding something I’m interested in. My favorites are the Tomato Basil and the Chicken and Dumpling. The salads and cold sandwiches are good also, but nothing to write home about. The only thing that hesitates me from going here are the prices. Granted they’re not too steep, but for what I’m getting and how much, I feel like they should be cheaper. Usually I could look pass this, especially during the cold weather months.

On a rainy Saturday during a weekend visit to NYC, my friend and I came to Chelsea Market on a recommendation from a friend. The weather was just right for soup, and when we past Hale & Hearty, we knew it was our spot for lunch. Seating is tough, as in, there isn’t any. But sprinkled through the Market are small tables, so we were able to nab one and go in relay-style to get our lunch. Short line, and I was able to order quickly. Ordered Vegetarian Split Pea and was told they are all out. No big deal, except they have a huge menu with little stickers that says, «SOLDOUT», and Split Pea didn’t have one. Just sort of aggravating when you spend 10 minutes trying to decide among 50 soup flavors, only to discover that the one you finally chose isn’t even available. Back to the drawing board! Ended up with Italian Wedding. The flavor was pretty good, but the temperature was just TOO hot. They don’t give enough bread — one slice for a good-sized cup of soup. Total cost for soup and a water: $ 10. Little steep for what’s included. My friend had chicken pot pie. Good but a little bland. I just expected better? Heartier? Not sure, but H&H wasn’t quite what I wanted. I would probably come back but wouldn’t make it a destination.

BOO, the long lines got me excited. I thought this would be as good as SF soup company. (+/-) Chicken + Vegetable w/choice of couscous or noodles. Couscous expanded and overpowered my soup, which was already lacking in flavor and chicken :(. (+) Choice of sourdough, whole grain bread or crackers with your soup. Whole grain was pretty good ** note ** Easy to choose healthy here, calories posted for the weekly soups as well as, L = low fat, V = vegetarian and D = no dairy. No calories, just L, V or D for the dailies. Cost = $ 6.70 for a large soup. Lines move quickly, they also have combos(sandwiches, salads, soups).

This is a chain but it is reliable and I love the fact it is always clean, fast and welcoming. I got their Chicken quinoa soup and it is hearty, healthy and full of fiber! I am glad they provided healthy options for diners and they list calories so I know how much I have consumed. I just wish the price is lower!

Chef’s special — Roman Caesar sandwich is AMAZING! It’s simple yet the combination of flavors is spot on. This sandwich reminded me one of the best sandwiches I had while I was in Italy. I always longed for that moment of sandwich bliss. And this sandwich does the job. The sandwich is pre-made, but don’t let that stop you. It’s just as fresh. And the fact that it is pre-made means you’re in and out in less than 5 minutes. Their salads are even better!
