Ok, I read most of the reviews for griffin prior to going for a friends b-day. I went and I will say … ALL of the negative reviews were exactly 100% dead on ! I usually like to try things out for my own but if your on the ropes also about going I must remind you, ALL of the reviews about this place are correct except the good ones, idk how those are even on there ! . Pointers: don’t wear great shoes, carpets are so sticky and disgusting you can’t even pick your foot up. The people there are totally«ratchet» and half of them looked like they were tripping on some kind of hard core drug. The place is a total shit show nothing special about the place and big whoop a chandelier yeah it’s pretty but it’s not worth the time I wasted here being uncomfterble and miserable, only went to celebrate my friends birthday which I may add they did not accommodate her at all!!! Super rude, unprofessional and would never ever go back and will let every person I know partying in the district to STAYAWAYFROMTHATUNCLASSYDUMP! =] I’m FORCED to put one star !

This place used to be 5 star when it was PM. It’s gone to hell since it became Griffin. Door staff are terrible/rude. Cover charge is outrageous. The whole idea of waiting on a line doesn’t register with me especially if 1) nobody’s inside and 2) nobody else is waiting on the actual line and 3) the place just opened 30 minutes ago. I’ve been here a few times and it seems to be the same thing over and over. Its worse when there is a crowd waiting to get in… its hell. The only thing going for this place is that it used to be called PM. Ill take my AMEX elsewhere.

I always love a lounge that plays hip hop and no EDM. This place was a bit crowded but really fun. My friends and I got comped a table and the bouncers were extremely fun [which is rare] so overall we had a great experience!

The bartenders here were extremely rude. Agreed it was super packed but they clearly saw that we were waiting and chose to serve other customers before us. My friend and I split up so whoever got the attention of the bartender first would buy the drinks. We both waited patiently at first but people kept pushing in next to us and got served before us. It was absolutely ridiculous. We had just gotten there and were completely sober so we weren’t being pushy or obnoxious. Maybe we should have been more assertive cause the bartenders were horrendous. I’ve bartended before so I understand they usually keep track of who came first or who didn’t but after waiting an 30 minutes and knowing that they saw us and still chose not to serve us, I definitely could tell that negligence or blatant discrimination was going on. Never going back to this place again.

Okay so let me write a review of my $ 30 door entry experience. Oh, and plus the cash withdrawal of +$ 5.99 that they charge from their«Griffin» ATM. So, upon walking in this ‘nightclub’(laugh my elfin’ arrrrse off) I felt that it genuinely did not make the cut. If you are going to charge that, just look at the the clubs in the vicinity. You are a bunch of money stealing cants *u. It’s hilarious, clearly know how to run a club ;)

Every now and then girls just want to dance. Sometimes you look for a promoter, other times you take advantage of a birthday party… someone you barely know gets you free entrance and hopefully a free glass of vodka. We decided to jump on yet another girls birthday and dance with her for free red velvet cake. That’s right, we hung out with 21 year olds for free cake. Besides the free cake, griffin was a decent place for meat packing. The chandelier and mirrors makes you think the griffin is bigger than it is. Overall, Griffin is your average meat packing bar, you’ll get exactly what you’re looking for here.

It gets very crowded, very quickly. You should know a promoter to get in. Depending on the night/music will determine the crowd of course. $ 8 for a bottle of water. $ 13 for a bottle of beer(Corona specifically). The cover for guys was $ 40 each that night, ladies free. It’s poorly lit, small VIPS. Very crowded, can be sketch. They’re not strict on attire but they will check you and take away your pepper spray or other belongings at door. Coat check was $ 4 and pretty much mandatory, then the lady refused to give me back my stuff though I knew the number and described my coat but couldn’t find the ticket. I wouldn’t go back. It’s a younger scene… well clubs in general :-p

Very nice spot, but then the people promoting this place or the crowd has this entitlement of being a douchebag. Crowd was very interesting. If you’re ageist, I don’t recommend this spot. Open bar from 10:30 — 11:30p, but only for vodka combos. I.e. Vodka soda. Watered down. Tips are welcomed and encouraged. I’m quite a music snob. So when a venue lacks eargasms I am more inclined to give 1 – 2 stars and give an brutally honest review. The DJ was awful. Very bad. And no smooth and rhythmic track transitions (Troy and this place seem to share the same terrible DJs…) K, that’s it.

I went here for a private event/photo shoot so i’m not sure if the bartender is the standard bartender there, but I’ve never seen a bartender be so rude to customers. It was an open bar event and the bartender would yell at people if they walked away without tipping after each drink. I get that you should tip, but the bartender shouldn’t demand it. Then, he stopped serving the people that wouldn’t tip. Even when there weren’t other people at the bar waiting for drinks, he just looked the other way and ignored them. Besides this, the décor and atmosphere seems like it would be a fun club scene.

— Mandatory coat check $ 4. Whaaaat. Is this a NYC thing? — Came here for open bar during which the place serves horrible, cheap vodka. It gets crowded near the bar, so if you’re trying to get shwasted, then ask for more than one drink at a time and hustle as much alcohol as you want before open bar ends lol — Music was a hit or miss throughout the night. Genre kept changing…

A girlfriend of mine got a booth at the Griffin for her bday. We said her name at the door and passed the doorman without a glitch. However, there is a mandatory $ 4 coat check, and I only had $ 2 on me. I tried to explain to the coat check lady that my friend had a table inside, so I could leave my coat at her table. This woman was unbelievably rude. She told me that I couldn’t go inside and that I needed to go to the ATM(that has an ATM fee of $ 8) to get another $ 2 to cover the coat check fee. She then rudely told me to get out of the way while I was texting my friend. I sent my friend a text explaining the situation and hoping that she could say something on my behalf. Apparently my friend dropped $ 5,000, so she wasn’t trying to hear any of this nonsense. She went straight to the manager and complained. We then ignored the coat check lady and walked inside. The manager came inside later to find out what happened. I went outside and explained that this woman would not let me in after I told her my friend had a table. This sorry excuse for a woman had the nerve to say that I didn’t tell her that my friend had a booth — that I only said table. What is the freakin difference? Either way, someone is spending money, so you should act like you have some sense! She then had to apologize to me. She probably gets away with this kind of behavior all the time. That’s why she was so comfortable being that rude for no reason. The only reason management acted like they cared is because my friend dropped serious money. I also have to mention that when they brought out an oversized bottle of Moet to do the birthday toast, the waitress, who was being super friendly with us all night, forgot to pour me a glass, but poured herself a glass. When I mentioned to the waitress that I did not have a glass for the toast, she gave me her glass that she obviously already took a sip out of based on the bright lipstick mark on the brim — ewww! The waitress was clearly drunk and not in her right mind! My friend grabbed the glass out of my hand and told her brother to pour me a glass. We ended up having a good time, but the employees are definitely not professional. If that is the treatment that $ 5,000 gets you, then I know that I would not have a good time if I went back on my own.

Vibe is good. Judith the bar tender automatically charged my card 7.20 in gratuity with out asking and made a scene when I refused the auto gratuity. I had tipped her on our previous order just not as much as she wanted I guess. Make sure to check their math.

3 stars for the lighting and beautiful chandeliers. 1 star for the overall ambiance. We were offered free drinks which were nothing more than a touch of lemon and sugar in still cold water! We weren’t impressed. There are definitely better places in NYC

Thought this place was nicely decorated but it was a bit small and the drinks are ridiculously priced. Went at 11PM on a Saturday night and there was no line, so that was fine. The cover is also ridiculous. So an average club in meatpacking.

I came here for a friend’s birthday and from checking-in and actually getting in, everything was going well. Everybody was courteous and wasn’t much of a problem when I told them the name of the party I was under. Nothing was a real issue until I made my way to the free open bar from 9:30PM-10:30PM. This was my first time here and I didn’t know that it was only vodka drinks that were free, so I made the mistake of asking for another liquor drink. The bartender seemed really pissed off that he had to tell me it was only vodka. But, it’s free, so I can’t complain. As it got closer to 10:30PM, one of the bartenders made a comment to a friend about how a tip was expected. I’ve worked in the restaurant business before and understand that tipping is a large part of the pay-out, but to solicit for it seems unprofessional. This was an issue again when the bottle server came and complained that the tip wasn’t enough. The place is nice, but the service could use some improvement.

My friend won a party there on Saturday. We arrived during open bar(9:30−10:30PM). My friend and I ordered a drink. Before I could willingly tip the bartender, he rudely demanded that we tip because it was open bar(as if we didn’t know). He carried on and on. I told him that he wouldn’t be getting a tip from me for being so «bleep bleep» rude. Then to top it off he refused to serve the three ladies behind us because I nor my friend tipped. Seriously? Before open bar ended, I went back to the bar to get two more drinks for myself(a total of 3 drinks for the night). I mention the incident to another bartender and he actually sides with the behavior of the initial bartender. He exclaims that«it’s not personal; it’s just frustrating to serve free drinks and not get tipped.» I believe that people should tip; however, those that don’t on a certain round of drinks or not at all shouldn’t be demanded to tip or denied service by a bartender. You’re that«thirsty» for tips? Making a general statement«Guys make sure you tip» is all one should be allowed to say. If a customer chooses not to tip that doesn’t mean get mad, fuss, or refuse to serve. Get a new job if it’s so frustrating; I can’t help that you don’t like/love your job. Other than that foolishness: I give the place 2 stars because of vibe: velvet sofas, chandeliers, Hip Hop/R&B music. However, this venue is in the meatpacking district so drinks are pricey($ 22 tax included for a single grey goose and cranberry). And to think I could buy a nicely sized bottle of grey goose for $ 30. Therefore, it would be wise to pregame before visiting. Lastly, don’t get too comfortable in an area. They will make you move if someone buys a section/bottle service(but that’s anywhere you go).

I never write reviews but this time is getting way too much… Went there last night(friday) to find my self in this terrible place, the most discusting bathrooms i ve ever seen. after i get out to smoke a cigarette and comment on the dirtiness of that place the doorman comes by and insultes me pretty heavily commenting on my outfit… Too casual for a club!(i was wearing a cute skirt a top and sandals since I am already 510/11!)…i dare you to make me feel like that just because I am not dressed like a hooker! This place is a joke! Best club in NYC? oh please.

Place is beautiful, service was okay some of the staff were rude some were nice, music sucked. Like If you like mediocre hip hop, then this is the place for you to go lol. It was pretty pricey for the vibe of this place. I wouldn’t recommend going to this place if you are looking to have a crazy fun filled night lol. I think 500 dollar table service for this place is outrageous. Overall I had a great time here only cause I got to catch up with old friends. Infact I wouldn’t ever go back to this place consciously.

Instructions for opening a meat packing district nightclub: 1) Take a 1,500 square foot room and hang a really cool chandelier in the middle. — Girls will Instagram the fuck out of it. 2) Put a stage under the chandelier. — Girls will fight each other for the opportunity to dance and be the center of attention. 3) Take any and all available space left in the room, and spread bottle service tables throughout. — People will pay ridiculous minimums to feel VIP. 4) Force the common folk who lack tables to the tiny back bar, charge them $ 19 per drink. TaDa! I just described Griffin.
