So i also made that horrible discovery as the Unilocaler before made about this place being boarded up and closed. And I must say I have been so depressed since my discovery a week ago. I loved everything about Go For A Bite, their cream puffs, their puddings, and their waffles, oooooh! how i loved their waffles. My boyfriend and I have been coming to this place since we discovered it’s existence last year. The guy that worked here was always giving free sample’s for any reason at all. Free sample if it’s your first time at Go For A Bite! free sample for coming back again! free sample because we have a new cream puff you must try! free samples just because you ordered something! lol. I really hope that maybe they relocated, or they’re making the place bigger(it was a really tiny place) and better and I wont wonder around New York finding a waffle place that will fill up the whole Go For A Bite left in my heart and stomach for leaving and not saying good bye.

oh my god, this place is amazing. if i had the money and will to excercise, I would go here every day. the waffles are the best waffles ever, and each waffle comes with a cup of delicious coffee and a little cookie. there are a million toppings to choose from, but I think next time i will just get a basic waffle with syrup and powdered sugar, because the waffles themselves are really the best part. the guy there is super nice and insisted on giving us a «welcome treat» of banana pudding(also amazingly delicious). only minus is that the waffles are $ 4 and we got a bunch of toppings so they ended up being $ 7. for a waffle, that seems like a lot to me, but considering what a huge filling meal it is I think it is worth it. love love this place. you may have trouble finding it if you look for a sign saying«Go for a bite». The big sign says«Belgium Waffles», I thought that was the name. go here! you will not regret it.

This place is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star– a 3.5 but I rounded up because the girl working there Sat am around 9am was just so nice. It seems others have had rather mediocre experiences here. I came here in the morning when no one was here, and I ordered the #4 combo of waffles– which had banana, whipped cream, blueberries and strawberries… and meringue(baby cookies). There were all kinds of combos– with pears, nutella, etc. I thought it was a little steep at $ 7 but whatevs. It comes with a free coffee(and cookie). The waffle itself was good– nice size, and shape, but it was just a bit dry. The batter itself. The girl had asked me if I wanted a syrup like dulce de leche, or honey, etc(i declined) but I feel as though a waffle should stand on its own without being drowned by stuff. The waffles were inferior to the famed Waffles and Dinges. I came with my parents and because they’re not that hot on sweets, we got the jalapeño turnover and mushroom and onion turnover. The first was better– but mainly because I really like spicy. The latter wasn’t bad– they both had good flavors; the latter just had kind of that flaky pastry crust i’m not too down with that, but that’s just me. The service was nice though so I got to give this place credit– she asked us how we were doing; didn’t mind we brought our little dog in the restaurant, and gave us tap water in cups. She also let me try some cake– don’t remember which one; it was rainbow colored and tasted heavy on cream. It was ok but I’m just not that into heavy cream desserts. The total breakfast came to $ 16. Glad I tried it but I wouldn’t go back.

I’ll start by saying I worked here for a very short time last summer. Maybe there is a bit of resentment hanging over from the way they let me know that they were letting me go(via text message, because THAT’S professional), but, to be honest, I’m surprised this place hasn’t gone under yet, both because of their business practices and the quality of their food. To start, the space is too small for something that requires a fork and knife for consumption. It was always crowded, for the employees and customers, and it is laid out awkwardly. I bumped into things all the time behind the counter, and no more than four or five people can be comfortably fit in the«dining room.» For awhile, they also had self-service coffee, which was bizarre and difficult to control. I won’t deny that the majority of the baked goods I tried were good… when they were fresh. The problem is that they are made in bulk(especially the waffles themselves), and the low volume of customers means that they not only sit around all day, but for multiple days sometimes too. Unless someone walks in and orders as waffles are being made, they use waffles that were made a day or two ago and have been frozen, reheating them in a toaster. I never really understood why they didn’t make them to order. Putting the batter in the waffle iron and cooking it doesn’t take much longer than using a toaster, so why not have them be as fresh as possible? Like I said, strange business practices. I also know for a fact that some of the baked goods they have packaged(cookies, etc) sit for days, sometimes weeks, at a time. A lot of times, whatever has not sold well and has been there for more than a week becomes the«daily special,» which will go on for a week or more. One thing I really did like(even though it was frozen and reheated, like everything else) was the savory panini waffle with cheese and some kind of spread. Tasted great, but didn’t look appetizing at all. Also, it is a completely kosher establishment, if that is a plus for you. Additionally, most of the employees speak Hebrew, and they are bound to give you special treatment if you do too. Like I said, being treated poorly as an employee has certainly tainted my view of this place, but, regardless, I think I can objectively say that it’s not very good, and you could probably do better elsewhere.

Decent but not a great place. I would probably go with a 5 star for service but 2 star for food. We stopped here pretty late in the night to satisfy some sweet cravings. The guy behind the counter was friendly and courteous and provided us some samplers as well. We decided to try the waffle with toasted almonds. Frankly speaking, I have tasted better waffles. While it was good at that moment to satisfy the sweet craving, it was not the best of the waffles around.

This place is absolutely amazing. I LOVELOVELOVE this place, the waffles, the sauces, the puddings, the ice cream, the coffee, everything is fantastic. I highly recommend that you make a trip there. Sometimes the waffles are a bit stale, but I’ve always gone late at night, so if its been in the air sitting out all day, that can be expected. I still think its a delicious spot for packing on some calories!

We hated this place. I guess it was our own fault though. Common sense should tell you that if the samples they were giving out outside the restaurant were TERRIBLE, that there would be more«terrible» to follow! lol Ignoring our own warnings, we went in anyway. The 2 people working inside were super-friendly, running down their menu choices to us. I went for a waffle with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup, and we each ordered a hot tea to go with it.(Chamomile for me!) Well, the waffle was hard and had a bad aftertaste to it, like it was going stale. Not what we expected ATALL!!! I couldn’t believe they were serving us an OLD waffle!!! I order waffles and ice cream a lot at other places, and NEVER have I been served a waffle that was a few days old! For that, this place gets a 1. I would have rather been served a hot, fresh EGG-O waffle than a hard, cold, 3 day old Belgian Waffle. This was bad… really bad! :(

After walking many blocks up from Little Italy, I was still in search of someplace interesting for breakfast. At 10AM most places were not yet open for brunch. I almost gave up and went to McDonalds when I noticed this tiny shop. I figured a waffle would be a nice change of pace. So I ordered coffee(quite good) and dithered a minute about my order. The blackboard menu had six or more fancy waffle combos which I did not want. Could I get a plain waffle, please? Oh, great, let me try one with maple syrup. The nice young lady behind the counter put a single pre-made waffle in a toaster. Ouch. Very bad. Ouch. But the young lady was very pleasant and as I said the coffee is good.

The Waffle Truck still reigns supreme. The staff here were extremely friendly and offered us samples of cream puffs and their pudding while we looked at the menu. We ordered a pistachio cream puff and a peanut butter and banana waffle. The waffle, although a liege waffle, was square and I was a little put off by the fact that they reheated it using a toaster. The peanut butter looked like it was squeezed out of a bottle because it was spread in thin lines in a zig zag pattern. The waffle was a little more dry than what I was used to. It wasn’t anything special tasting. The waffle was also served on a styrofoam plate. There’s nothing wrong with a styrofoam plate but for some reason I wish it wasn’t styrofoam. The cream puff was much better than the waffle. The pistachio one has small bits of actual pistachio in it. The flavor took a little while to kick in and was very sublet. The cream was light and creamy. Pass on the waffles but the cream puffs are worth a try.

The Chocolate Mouse with cream puffs in it was my birthday dessert this year. If they have it, get it. I’d say it falls into the amazing category. The only problem is that they don’t make it every day… out of the 4 times I’ve been there, they’ve had it 3 of them though. It’s a milk chocolate mouse with a thin dark chocolate layer on top, and 2 or 3 cream puffs inside of it.(surprisingly not soggy) Runs about $ 5 give or take $ 0.50. Otherwise the cream puffs are good alone… Despite the raves from the owner about the waffles, I was not a fan. They were thick & heavy… 2 stars for the waffles. 5 for the mouse. 4 – 5 for the service… free samples of cream puffs & if the owners are there they are friendly, chatty, and very into what they do.

I agree with most of the reviewers that the waffle’s aren’t freshly made, and they just reheat it. That’s kind of disappointing. The toppings are pretty standard: bananas, strawberries, whipped cream, chocolate topping, etc. Nothing amazing. Bleh. Owners were really nice though, and the banana pudding was good. I think they should lead with that.

3 stars for the food(minus the banana pudding) 5 stars for the service and the banana pudding we stopped by this place after a sushi dinner because ironically, the hubby had just mentioned the ridiculously good belgian waffles we had in amsterdam last year. they were handing out free cream puffs and the cream was delish! but it tasted like the cream puffs had been sitting filled for awhile because the puff part was quite mushy in texture. we ordered a belgian waffle with chocolate sauce, which they did reheat in a toaster oven. the toaster oven did help but if this is a place that is building its business on the belgian waffle, toasting it in an oven is just so… lacking — in taste and in texture. and i could barely taste the chocolate sauce… while we were waiting for them to re-heat the waffle, one of the guys also gave us a sample of their banana pudding. SOGOOD… very rich and thick and creamy and banana-y(yes, that’s a technical term.) i wish there were a tad more nilla wafers but man, it was good. so if you’re in the area, go for the service and the banana pudding!

If you’re looking for some late night sweets, definitely keep this place in mind. They gave us a sample of the cream puffs and the brownie, both were good but nothing to really crave. Then we ordered the waffle with a bunch of toppings for about $ 5. Unfortunately I was a little too tipsy to remember what was on it, but whatever it was, at 3 am it definitely hit the spot. Just go there and ask for their recommendation and you’ll be in good hands.

Walked by this place one evening when they were offering samples of some fresh made waffles. Had one and it tasted pretty good. I liked the fact that it was more dense and chewy than regular Belgian waffles I had. Returned a couple weeks back in the midday for a waffle lunch, which didn’t leave as great of an impression as the sample. There’s a nice selection of toppings and freebie sauces(honey, chocolate, and maple syrup, just to name a few) but I was disappointed in the waffle. They were pre-made from earlier in the day and were reheated in a toaster. I think this was the main reason my waffle didn’t taste as good as the sample I had a few weeks back. Although the waffle wasn’t as good as I would’ve liked, the staff was very friendly and the price is a bit lower than competing places. It’s probably worth a stop if you’re in the neighborhood and have an insatiable waffle craving. Sidenote, I don’t recommend the little plastic cups of waffles in carmel sauce. They’re made of leftover waffles from the day before and taste like it… nice and stale.

despite its unfortunate and rather unappetizing name, gofra bite serves plenty palatable waffles and desserts. stopped by one evening just to inquire about the strange name («gofra» means Belgian Waffle according to the nice employee manning the shop), and stepped out with a container of their peanut butter sesame waffle. er. kinda stale? he suggested reheating it, i stuck it in the freezer instead(never been one to follow instructions). i found this helped. chewy frozen peanut butter bites on a hot summer night. yummy. also, we each got a free cream puff with our purchase(slow evening, perhaps?) and it is honestly one of the best crème puffs i’ve ever had. the cream was rich and buttery. so dont expect a simple, light whipped-cream-like filling. trip number two: the waffles themselves are dense and doughy, not unlike the texture of a bagel. what stood out the most, however, was the pleasantly surprising crystals of granulated sugar found in pockets throughout the dough. strawberry, whipped cream, and maple = great combo. sure, they’re not served fresh made, but i find the toaster reheating adds a nice crisp. i hope this place does well. the people are kind and the product is not only tastey but unique in the area. if you ever walk by this part of town, don’t hesitate to go for a bite at gofra bite(yea yea, i couldn’t resist).

This interesting, new Belgian waffle shop recently opened up in a space that was a Philly cheesesteak shop a few incarnations ago. I don’t entirely know what to think of it, to be quite honest. I can’t speak to authenticity because I don’t think I’ve ever had waffles like these. They are premade, topped with various sauces, and then allowed to sit and absorb it all — basically an intentionally soggy waffle that comes in flavors like red velvet and cheesecake. When you buy the prepackaged stuff(packaged in that clamshell plastic that isn’t recyclable in NYC), the staff will advise you to take it home and reheat for about 15 seconds in the microwave. The result is a warm, but still stale and soggy waffle. With tax, each small piece(far smaller than the 6″ square described in earlier reports — mine was more like 2″ by 4″) comes out to be about $ 5, which seemed slightly pricey to me for what these are. Here’s why I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I’m a sucker for novelty and waffles served in this way are unique in New York, as far as I know. Also, the folks who work there seemed to be really nice. I want them to do well. On the other hand, I’m not sure pre-made waffles work for me, ever. In my book, waffles are a short-lived beauty, which must be eaten at their prime, within a few minutes after coming off the griddle. A soggy waffle is but a shadow of its former, crispy self and should be eaten only if you wish to put it out of its misery. So I guess my thoughts are best summarized this way: For pre-made waffles, Gofra Bites is not bad. I haven’t had a problem with over– or under-toppinged waffles, unlike some other reviewers. But how much more wonderful would these be if they were fresh off the griddle? Maybe the folks who run the place could just tweak their business model a little bit…

Just opened in a tiny storefront on West 3rd, replacing the cupcake place(Tonnie’s Minis) next to the back rub place. Basically just sells belgian waffles and coffee. There are a variety of toppings, and they heat up the pre-made waffles for you They measure about 6″ square and are really thick and very even though it wasn’t freshly made to order, it tasted very fresh. I had mine with nutella and peanut butter, which was tasty, though I’ll ask them to go light on the toppings next time. Would have liked for it to be fresh-made, though I guess that could wind up taking forever. There is seating for 4 or 6 people, max — very small space. But, they will slice up the waffle for you so it’s easy to eat with a fork while you walk.
