I have been going to Gleam since before they opened the 108^th street location. I follow Suzana Blajec, their colorist and texture specialist, and Michael Wittke for style. They are both AMAZING. Relax, and enjoy. You will look fantastic once they are through with you!

I had such a great experience at Gleam! I had been apprehensive to have a new person cut my hair (I usually go to a salon back home in Boston), but Eva did such an amazing job. She really took the time to listen and talk through what I was looking for. You also can’t beat the overall service and prices here. I would highly recommend her and the salon in general!

Simply outstanding. I have just returned to NYC after 5 years away and needed to find a new Salon. I found Gleam based on Unilocal reviews and feel I must pay it forward with my own ;) From the first call to check availability and ask advice, to the confirmation call, and the accommodation of a new time, to the salon experience itself, this is warm, welcoming and very professional international team. Alejandra did an amazing job on my (blond color) going above and beyond to ensure match, blend and quality, and Eva finished with a superb blow dry that left my long hair feeling sleek and glossy. This is a great salon with superior service and wonderful hair professionals. I had my second hair cut w Art and he was great again. The first hair cut grew in better than I was even expecting. That lead me back to my second session w Art. And again. The hair cut came out better than I had envisioned it. Bottom line this is a great place and you will feel welcome when you walk in and confident when you walk out. Def worth going here and I’d recommend without reservation.

I am so happy I found gleam salon. The staff is amazingly friendly and accommodating. As most ny’ers, I can’t plan too far in advance and they fit me in on my whims whenever it’s possible. Art is able to make me always look and feel better after I leave his chair! Great job guys!

Eva is a treasure! Moved to the neighborhood a few months ago from another state and had been putting off getting a much needed cut. Eva listened so carefully, took plenty of time with me and gave me a rockin’ haircut. Plus everyone else on staff is super welcoming and patient. Couldn’t be happier; I’ve found my new salon!

I was in the neighborhood visiting a friend. I had to prepare for graduation pics, Unilocaled hair salons nearby, and found Gleam Salon. They immediately took me in. The staff was beyond attentive and the salon was very inviting. Eve was very knowledgeable. I’m very happy with how delicate she was, yet how beautifully she managed to tame my curly hair into a nice wavy silky looking blowout. Pics came out great! Thank you!

I’ve had generally bad experiences with Manhattan salons. I find them to be a little intimidating and unwelcome. Gleam is a glorious exception. From the moment I walked in I felt very taken care of. Booking an appointment the day of was a breeze, and they even arranged for a senior stylist to give me a cut at the rate of a mid range stylist in order to accommodate my time preferences. Alejandra did a fantastic job and I love my shoulder length lob.
As far as students are concerned. Gleam is close to campus and offers student discounts. I could not be happier. This is my new go to.

I got a haircut Friday night with Eva and must say that she was a pro and did a fabulous job. She was super helpful when determining how much of my dead ends we needed to cut off and did the job with precision and care. She also introduced me to some very light weight products for this thick heavy hair of mine. Thank you Eva! I’d definitely go back to see you again.

Went to gleam for the first time today and it was amazing! Everything from the décor, to the staff, to the service was quality. The reception staff was warm and friendly and immediately offered us beverages. We were seen immediately and had Michael as our stylist. His consultation was professional and knowledgable and he knew what was going to be best for my hair. He listened to what my style was and gave me exactly what I asked for. He was fantastic! I just had my first New York haircut! Gleam is great! They greet you in a professional way on the phone and at the salon. Be sure to make an appointment. The place is clean and professional. I had Michael as my stylist and he was brilliant! He listened to what I wanted and definitely passed the test! He even managed to tame my wild bangs and gave it some volume and definition. My hair is really thick and he was able to add layers to lighten it up. He was probably one of the best stylists I’ve ever had! Go to Gleam!

I realized today after my appointment with Ismael that I haven’t had a good haircut in years. Gleam Salon is what I’ve been missing. Clean, welcoming, very reasonably priced, and student discounts!
Add the fact that Ismael took the time to ask about my cut history, hair, style preferences, gave his own recommendations, and then walked me through everything he was going to do, complete with a plan for the next few months (it had been a year since my last cut, I needed all the advice I could get). He did all this with such genuine kindness! Amazing. Looking forward to returning in 10 weeks.

Really liked this place. First visit was last week and will absolutely be going back when its time for the next cut. Art took care of me and rescued me from a bad year of barber shop work. Thanks much!
Place has a cool vibe to it. More of a downtown thing goin on but thankfully without those Chelsea prices!

I’ve lived in NYC coming up on a year now. Let me tell you, you think leaving all your friends, apartment and the sunshine of LA is hard when making the move… no, leaving your trusted stylist of 5 years is PAINFUL! There’s not one person who’s touched a hair on this head other than Ashlee in 5 years, and the thought if made me have heart palpitations. So, about 6 months ago I mustered the courage to go to some place in Chelsea… for which I received a snip-​it of a trim and was charged $ 220… Um, exqueeze me? Needless to say, I wasn’t going back there for an underwhelming, over charged trim.
But, my locks were getting shaggy and I needed to find someone new. I came across Gleam Salon on Unilocal and perused the reviews; everyone was raving about this Eva chick. So, I called in, made an appointment for Eva, and she did not disappoint. Great haircut, very thorough, triple checked all her decisions with me, and a bangin’ personality to boot.
It’s official, Eva is my gurl, and I’ll be seeing her in t-​minus 4 weeks.

Art just tamed my unruly mane! He did an amazing job, best haircut I’ve had in quite some time. I left smiling! The crew at Gleam Salon has been incredibly friendly, professional, and fabulous. Check this place out, you (and your hair) will be happy you did!

Ismael was recommended to me by three different people before I finally stopped by to see what I was missing … the experience lived up to the hype. The space was clean and relaxing, everyone was nice, and Ismael was phenomenal.
I liked that his plan for my look was spread out over several months, but I didn’t feel like he was just trying to score a new regular client… his vision for my hair was real, and I found that much more satisfying than stylists who try to do everything in one sitting. He didn’t try to smother me with product sales — he actually told me to finish whatever products I had at home and then come back and consult him. I loved that so much — I trust him to prioritize my needs over his sales goals. (Also I’m totally going to go back and buy whatever he tells me to, so if he was going for reverse psychology it totally worked.)
As far as the haircut itself is concerned, I absolutely love it. I don’t go an hour without getting at least one compliment on my hair and I met with Izzy two weeks ago! He immediately understood what I wanted and how to give it to me. He also taught me how to style it myself (and how to do it quickly — which is SO important to me).
Anyway, a sincere five star rating from me to both Ismael and Gleam Salon.

I’m someone who until recently, thought cutting my hair should be no more complicated than heading over to the barber/​watch repair guy and getting a standardized clip job.
So when someone suggested I go to a salon to get a haircut for an upcoming job interview, I thought they were nuts! Why should I spend more money to get little more than what I get already? Still, I’d never tried it, so I said what the hell.
My friend recommended Gleam, and told me to make sure to make an appointment. So I called them up and the friendly person on the other end said they could get me in that afternoon! There’s definitely something to be said for not having to wait next to a row of other waiting dudes, knowing they all got there before you!
When I arrived (admittedly a bit late) I was shown in and offered something to drink. My, my, let the pampering begin! I was ushered to their shampooing dept., and settled in to a very relaxing wash. I felt like my hair was finally getting the massage it deserved! The shampooer was very nice, I felt like I’d stumbled upon a new sort of therapy!
After a quick dry, I was whisked away by my stylist — the confident, bearded, and well dressed Ismael. I explained my situation — that due to lackluster past hair cuts, I really had no idea what I wanted done. I knew I wanted it short and good looking. Otherwise, I said, I leave it to your expertise in the craft.
So, once he prepped me for the chair and took my glasses, he examined my hair patterns and dug in. I could instantly tell that the level of sophistication in his method would leave me with no desire to return to my humble neighborhood barber. There’s simply no comparison. In Ismael’s skilled hands, I felt like he knew every inch of my scalp intimately. That he would sculpt my humble locks into something marvelous. We chatted a bit while he had his way with my mane, and when he was done I felt transformed.
Glasses back on!
Suddenly I had a hairdo that fit my head and hair better than any style I’d had before! It was a completely new way of thinking about preparation and the parting. It felt stylish and trendy. I couldn’t believe he managed to do what he did with my thin straight hair! He asked if I’d like to see it with a bit of hair wax, and I said sure! Boom! Beautiful! Stunning do!
After that, cleanup and check out were a breeze. I was so enraptured with my new hair style that I even picked up a jar of that hair wax! I left on a happy cloud, which was only made better by the smell of the nearby crêpe place!
So, from then on, Ismael owns my hair. I really have never gone back to my neighborhood barber!

I’ve been coming to Art for my haircuts for the past three years and plan on doing so as long as I’m in NYC. He’s an extremely skilled stylist with strong attention to detail all the while engaging in interesting conversations and entertaining stories-​a Renaissance man one might say. Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed the place earlier, but I do recommend it to everyone I come across.
The salon looks great and the staff is extremely professional and helpful. Haircut for men is in the 70 $ range, but that includes a complimentary neck trim usually done 3 weeks later. With Art the neck trim is never only a neck trim, rather a retouch of the hair cut as a whole. I think he just can’t help himself.haha. The result is a style that lasts and even gets better with time.
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stylist or is just bored with the one they have.

I had the best experience with Michael. Gorgeous cut and color, picture speaks for itself. The entire staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. Beautiful facility and very fairly priced. (Michael even accommodated me taking a work call while being colored.) Very enjoyable experience, lifelong customer was gained today.
I can not speak highly enough about the salon and Michael, 10 out of 10 hands down.
