Dr. Gary Tracy has taken wonderful care of me throughout the years and I recommend him highly. He is always painstaking and exacting in fitting contacts and with vision examinations. A bonus is his fabulous lens cleaner. The office staff is pleasant and efficient in my experience.
This is THE place for contact lenses.

Horrible consumer service. Never followed up after spending (combination of insurance and my own money) over $ 1500 on a single pair of glasses. Got my phone number mixed up several times. Ball was dropped on contacting me, getting my glasses in a timely manner and just professionalism. I requested to have my credit card charged back

When my previous optometrist told me she couldn’t get my contact prescription any better, a friend referred me to Dr. Tracy. She said he’s known as «the contact whisperer.» I couldn’t be happier with Dr. Tracy who was patient, thorough, professional, punctual and knowledgeable. I can now see ²⁰⁄₂₀ with my contacts.
Getting vision corrected is an art as well as a science and Dr. Tracy is a master. His staff is extremely courteous, pleasant, and made the entire experience easy and excellent for me. Part of my exam and contact supply was covered by my vision plan.
Dr. Tracy is as good as it gets!

Over the years I have seen numerous optometrists and ophthalmologists but Dr. Tracy has been by far my best experience. My vision improved with the change in prescription and the gas permeable contacts are the the best fit I’ve ever had.
My wife, who wears progressive lenses in her glasses, also went to Dr. Tracy and is extremely surprised by how much clearer her vision is with the new glasses.
Dr. Tracy took the time to insure that everything was just right. There is great attention to detail. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. Overall, I can’t imagine a better experience.
Some other reviewers has mentioned «not cheap». This is not Pildes or a chain store. This is a doctor with almost 40 years experience who is interested in the individual. For the results, it is a bargain.

Excellent small office for your eye care needs. Dr. Cercone provided a thorough exam and made the visit very comfortable. I highly recommend this office and doctor.

This is the MOST professional eyewear shop I have ever frequented. My prescription is a bit wonky & I am very sensitive to any errors or imperfections when the lenses are cut or made. The staff at Gary Tracy patiently works WITH me to make sure the glasses work FOR me. After many awful experiences with other places, I am here to stay as a loyal customer. They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Had a great experience here. First time getting contacts, Dr. Sarcone (spelling?) was very helpful, patient, and knowledgable. I highly recommend them.

I started with Dr Tracy and am now seeing Dr Sirconne. These are the first optometrists I’ve ever had who made sure my contact prescription and brand was absolutely right for me by allowing me to try out several different pairs. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I made the mistake of using them once. As far as I know, Gary Tracy does not come in frequently, but instead they use optometrists who work at more than one practice, freelance perhaps. I was there at least half a dozen times over a four month period and he was never in.
When I went to the office a year ago, the exam room equipment was positively antiquated. Even the optometrist I saw vaguely alluded to that as a concern when I had to go back because the prescription they gave me was incorrect.
I ended up going to my old optometrist upstate [out of network] got the correct prescription and brought it to them. They did correct it for me with the caveat that they would not be responsible, which I understood.
After two months, one of my lenses turned cloudy. Ironically, it was the first time in two months that I even went to use my glasses since they were only for night driving. I believe it was Ulysses with whom I spoke, who tried to tell me it was my fault. He said that I had either washed them incorrectly, left them in a hot car, etc., and it was not their responsibility. Really, cheap optical lenses are that sensitive??? Furious, I asked to speak with a manager. After too much time and a few employee-​only conferences, they agreed to have the lens replaced. Once my glasses were back, I went to pick them up and will never return again.
P. S. I hadn’t really thought much about the experience until I received an email to LIKE them on social media — NOT!

I think that as an optometrist, Dr. Tracy is very professional and thorough. He is a pleasant person and has an excellent bedside manner. This high level of care extends into the rest of the office. The receptionist is organized and very respectful of people’s time. The saleswoman who helped me was comprehensive and was quickly able to help me find frames that I really like. As for cost, if you need cheap glasses, this probably is not the place to go. I don’t think it’s expensive either — just a higher end operation, totally appropriate for the UWS. I have experienced terrible service and craftmanship at some of the chain stores, and this was a whole different ballgame. Totally satisfied customer here and would recommend to anyone who is self-​pay or on the VSP plan.

I adore Dr. Tracy. I’ve been a patient since 2009. Back then I was just a visitor from Los Angeles who desperately needed a new pair of contact lenses because my current pair was super old and scratching out my eyeballs. I googled optometrist on the UWS and went to the first one I came across – not a smart move and I promptly left. But then I found Dr. Tracy, thank goodness! He was amazing. I have a very high prescription plus astigmatism and he took the time to fit me with a perfect pair of lenses. Dr. Tracy also took the time to answer all my questions about eye health and the history of contact lenses. He was also the first New Yorker to encourage me to move to the city and when I did a year later, I was so happy to see him again. I’ve been a patient ever since. I live in the West Village now and while he’s all the way uptown, I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else. I also found his staff to be very sweet – I have no idea what that nasty review from Michael W. is all about. Preet was very kind and conscientious – she even compared prices for me on the web to make sure I was getting the best deal on my year’s supply of lenses.

A pig wearing lipstick is still a pig! Poor service is poor service. To have implications of mistaken identity is outright calling me a liar. Prit, Preet or whatever it may be. You were the one who waited on me. I dont care if you attached a MBA degree to that 10+ experience to your resume. After this hostile response to my comment, to think i will return to spend more money at your shop is absurd. As a matter of fact a good friend of mine bought an identical Legre brand eyeglass frame to mine. I paid $ 300+ for the frame and he paid $ 150. As a resident on the UWS I was really looking forward to find a place close to home so that I dont have to go too far to get glasses. After this hostile and insulting response, I wouldn’t send my secretary in there let alone myself!

It’s true that Gary Tracy is pricey, but I feel like I’ve gotten good value at this office. Very careful to get the right prescription (glasses and lenses) and comfort/​fit (lenses). Staff is wonderful, and always willing to adjust frames when needed, with a smile. Recommended.

Wow, Dr. Tracy and his able lieutenants give new meaning to the words «customer service» and «business integrity.» After showing up almost traumatized from my experience at Jeffrey’s Manhattan Eyeland, Chris immediately put me through the ringer: all kinds of test, questioning, studying, thinking… and scheduling an appointment for me to see Gary Tracy. The glasses previously prescribed were completely off and he has — and is still — working patiently with me to see if the prescription is still off or the brand of lens is not right for my eyes. He adds a bit of art to what seems like a science, and I’m fully confident that he and Chris together will solve the mystery of these faulty glasses. By the way, this operation has only provided me with lenses, not a single frame yet I am treated like I will be a customer for life. And I will!

I have been wearing glasses for most of my life and have seen quite a few optometrists but Dr Tracy is the most knowledgable I have ever met. I stop wearing contact lenses because it made my eyes red and watery, because of Dr Tracy I can look cute again when I am going to a special occasion because he found me the right pair. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Dr. Tracy has been my eye-​doctor nearly my whole life. He is the BEST! I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my vision. He is endlessly patient and takes the time to explain things and be sure that you are completely happy. He always knows the latest research and developments in contact lens and eye health, and shares that with his patients. He genuinely cares about his patients’ eye health and comfort. If there are any problems with my contacts, he is happy to exchange them or try to help me figure out a solution, which is invaluable. Everyone in his office is extremely friendly and helpful. I’ve bought several pairs of glasses from Dr. Tracy, in addition to being a regular contact lens customer, and had a great experience. Dr. Tracy is one of the best optometrists. I highly recommend him!

This cute family run UWS optometrist office was a great fit for what I wanted for my eye care needs. Dr. Tracy was hands down the best as far as being knowledgable and in his patient «bed side» manners. In the past, I’ve felt like someone thrown into a conveyor belt with zero human interaction from doctors and their staff. Not here. The doctor took his time during the eye exam and explained to me any changes he was seeing. He made it a fun/​painless process and answered any questions I had. The front office staff was just as pleasant. The office is not large by any means, but I was surprised by the collection of frames they kept on hand to choose from. They were able to help me find new frames that were extremely fun and fashionable without having to leave the neighborhood. I left with designer frames and none of the designer store snootiness. Also, a cool side note… this was John Lennon’s NYC optometrist!

He tested and fitted me with my first pair of glasses (ever) and I found his manner thoroughly professional and reassuring.

Dr. Tracy is hands down the best optometrist I’ve ever had — and I’ve been seeing optomoetrists for over 35 years. He is the first, and only, optometrist who took the time, care and patience to find me a pair of contact lenses I could live with. He kept giving me different pairs, and would have me come back after wearing them for a few days. He would then examine the lens in my eye and with each pair he learned just a little bit more about what my particular eyes needed — until at last he found the perfect pair. No other doctor has ever done that for me. They usually give you a pair or two and if they don’t work out, they just throw up their hands. Not Dr. Tracy. He knew he could fit me properly and that it would just take a little longer.
It broke my heart that I had to leave him behind in NY when I moved to San Diego. I’ve been putting off finding a new optometrist because I am so doubtful I can find one as good as he is — but alas, I’ve reached the stage where I need a separate reading lens prescription, or something — so it’s time to venture out. May the universe help me find my new San Diego-​based Dr. Tracy!
