Interesting diner trying to be a bit more upscale. The menu is fascinating — quite an assortment of things. The Sweet Potato Fries are truly fantastic, and the other food I’ve had here has been good, not great. However, service really is terribly slow, even when there’s almost no one there!

This was the first stop for us when we arrived in NYC from LA after a really long flight. We were exhausted. It was past 11pm, and we were starving. Our awesome hosts called the restaurant in advance to make sure they could still seat us and so off we went to the Funky Diner. It really is kinda Funky. You walk in there and you see all these signs for making your own picnic baskets, and to your left there’s a huge case of gelato/sorbet/icecream. Oooohhh… I was already in heaven. After looking at all the choices in their menu, which ranged from make your own burger to pancakes to ice cream to crepes. This place had everything! I ordered the veggie burger with the herbed goat cheese and the roasted peppers. The veggie burger was really good. The patty was made of wild rice and some other stuff that tasted oaty, toasty, creamy, crispy. I’m also glad I picked the herbed goat cheese and the roasted peppers because it really complemented the veggie patty. It was like eating kimchi with rice. in a really good way. I also had a side of sweet potato fries. omg. so good. Afterwards we had gelato for dessert — blood orange and tahitian vanilla. both flavors were dancing waltzes on my tongue but i def favor the blood orange. MMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm. So good. When we went, there was only one other table of people and the whole place was pretty much empty so we had great service from the one waitress who was still there. All in all, I can’t really find a reason to take off any stars. It was probably the best diner I went to but the reasons may not be completely relevant or unique to the restaurant itself, but more so because of my company, the hunger, the lateness which felt like the whole restaurant catered to us. =)

Funky Diner is from far the most disapointed diner I have ever been too !! They have such of choice of product that you have the feeling that it’s a great place hein … but NO !! Glasses of water taste bleach, capuchino taste bleach, service is soooooooooo slowwwwwwwwww !! Oh my god! When I was there we were only 3 tables full in the restaurant ! It took them 40 minutes to bring us a burger, a capuchino and a crêpe ! And oohhhh my god !! The crepes are the worst ever !!! No taste at all. As I am french I can tell !! It is yeurk !!! Plus I ask if I could removed the ham of it because I don’t eat pork and what was the answer: sorry, we can not do that! WHY ??? Because everything is pre made !! Good luck and enjoy ;)

Not your standard diner — wine, cheese, make your own pinic basket — more to come. Not going to lie — wanted to be the first to Unilocal this place. ;-)
