Friedman’s Lunch is one of my favorite gluten free spots! Most of their menu items can be prepared gluten free — even sandwiches and their chicken and waffles! The chicken baconswisswich on a gluten free roll is definitely my go to. The gluten free chicken and waffles were pretty good, but I think a lot of that is just because it is such a treat for me to have chicken and waffles! Otherwise, they’re a bit spicy and dry — not sure I would order them again. They have a decent happy hour — their website says that it is 4 – 6, but I’m pretty sure it runs until 7 or 8 which is wonderful for an after work drink and snacks(I recommend the spinach artichoke dip gluten free). I have mostly been on weeknights and not had too much of a late, but it is a bit of a snug spot and I have heard that the wait can be a bit crazy on the weekends(blame the tourists).

Always enjoy the food and they usually have pretty interesting specials. I wish they had more seating but otherwise the place is great.

We stopped in here for a late lunch on December 29. What a mad house! The fellow at the counter advised us there would be a 30 minute wait and to check back with him in 20 minutes. Sure enough, after 20 minutes, he had found us a perfect end spot. I will say that this is not the place to go if you don’t enjoy being ogled at by curious tourists. The seating here is mostly centered around a communal feel. Definitely not cozy or romantic. Our server Charlie was really great. I ordered the barbecue pulled pork, gluten free sandwich. My significant other ordered the veggie gluten free sandwich with chicken. My meal was okay. Just okay. The bun was great but the pork lacked flavor. And they forgot to put the chicken in the chicken sandwich. The blackberry lemonade was really nice. Nothing extraordinary here folks.

Excellent! Simple. Clean. Fresh. They have a quiet space in busy Chelsea Market and were open for breakfast nice and early.

Why can’t a girl find a decent place in NYC, transplant culture that’s why. Scouting for small bites and drinks, my friends and I decided on this place hoping the food matched the ambience. As we took a minute to collect ourselves one server came up to us and announced the happy hour specials, three seconds later another server with a man bun announced the specials to us. We were ready to order, specified we would like a less sugar in our cocktails. Cocktails were an absolute joke. Stupidly concocted by what seem to be a handicap dog, because no bartender should make such an off setting cocktail. One of my friends also got a glass of wine. Incorrectly stored, served with the incorrect temperature, and fully oxidized. Bleh! We made ourselves perfectly clear that we had intentions of ordering food, but no server came to take our food order. Good thing too, cause nobody came to check up on us, or even collect payment. What a joke.

Come every time I’m in New York. Food is great. The menu is always changing and it’s always fresh. I’ve had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Service is sub par but the food is worth it.

This adorable little homemade comfort food spot is located inside Chelsea’s Market(even better). Friedman’s is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner all seven days of the week, YAAAAAS! The only downfall is their wait. We waited around thirty minutes to get a table which I feel was on top of both our neighbors to the left and right. However, everything was worth it when we saw the menu and then got our food. One word: BRUNCH. Mommy and Carrie(ME) love brunch, freaking love love love brunch. We ordered two entrees from the brunch menu and two coffees – split eveyrthing. UH-MAZ-ING.

Um. Please, have you tried their Reuben? And you can give it anything less than a 5? I know you’re entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. And within reason, I respect that. But c’mon, it would be outside reason to give this place anything less. I come here every time I’m in the city, and the Reuben here never fails me.

If I could give half stars, this lunch was worthy of a 4 and ½. Delicious veggie sandwich that was a tad pricey, but a good portion. Make sure to specify if you’d like your sandwich toasted… You can do take out or sit at the place which is preferable since Chelsea Market doesn’t have too many seated options. Pretty packed for a Thursday when we went. Check out the doggy wallpaper though, kept me super entertained during their busy hours.

The place is really loud. And before you order anything, look at other people’s plates. Some things are tiny(like my burger) and some others are pretty descently sized(like the pancakes for example). I had a small chunk of bone in my burger’s meat. And they are stingy on the drinks(my $ 11 mimosa was 1⁄3 of the glass). And the waiters are rude(she almost smashed the glasses on the table when she threw the bill at us). Loud, stingy, not that good and rude employees. Not recommended at all, I was actually glad to leave and never come back ever again.

This review is purely about the pathetic matzoh ball soup. Don’t get it. I was in Chelsea Market and craving soup. Saw Friedman’s and figured with a name like that they must have the Matzoh ball soup down. I was wrong. It was flavorless and very disappointing. And the portion size was pathetic!(To be fair the woman who took my order did warn me that the cup is very small and I should go for the bowl. But $ 9 for a bowl of soup seemed ridiculous).

Friends and I decided to stop here before drinks at the Tippler. One of them wanted fries and the other an wanted grilled cheese. This place had both so why not? Lots of things on the menu looked really good, but I ended up opting for the special of the night which was a Cajun chicken burger with Cajun spiced chicken breast, avocado, bacon, spicy mayo, pepper jack cheese. The burger was the size of my face. They put three(thin) slices of chicken breast in it. I would have preferred one thicker slice because it would have been easier to eat(my burger was falling apart left and right) and the thin slices can easily be overcooked, which is what happened. The chicken breast was a bit tougher to chew than I would have liked. Instead of avocado it was guacamole. Not bad, but would have preferred avocado because it would have paired better with the taste of the rest of the burger. The rest of the burger was amazing. Thick slices of bacon and the spiciness had just the right amount of kick. My burger also came with a side of fries. I got sweet potatoe fries. They were kind of soggy and over fried. There were one or two fries that was burnt. No good at all. Overall though I felt were satisfied from the burger and the service was great. The noise level not too loud either.

B.L.A.T. Smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado with herbed aioli on toasted sourdough bread. Served with a pickle. $ 12.00 via Grubhub pickup was fine but way overpriced no matter the provenance of the ingredients.

Food/Service: Food is excellent. Chilaquiles is excellent, pastrami hash is excellent. Try it all. Fresh too. You may have to wait to be seated but usually not long. Worth it! Atmosphere: Chelsea Market is always crowded, but it’s a great vibe. Utilities: No plugins for phone. One bathroom near the back. Clean

Small spot inside of Chelsea market. Wasn’t the worst experience but wasn’t amazing food either. Don’t bother getting the chicken & waffle. My cobb salad was pretty good and liked that the bacon was crispy. Although the bacon w/the feta made it a bit salty. My aunt got the grits which were good. Nothing to write home about though.

As a celiac, it is quite difficult to find a good place to dine. Freudians lunch is your average place, nothing special. The one time I went to this location, I ordered a freidmans burger with a gluten free bun and sweet potato fries. Not surprisingly, the bun was DISGUSTING! The service was slow, so bring good company to keep you entertained. It is also on the pricey end. In my opinion, if you are going to eat there– just get the burger without the bun(if you’re gluten free) or order the wings and sweet potato fries. The wings(which I had at the 31st street location although I don’t expect them to taste different) were delicious! They were a bit spicy, but worth it. Large portion with a tangy sauce. The fries were some of the best I ever had. If you order it as a side you get more than as part of the burger meal. Overall decent place, just not for burgers.

As we were staying at the Boston Park Plaza nearby, we found this place by virtue of location. However, I was overwhelmed by how amazing the food and service was. Right from when we walked in, we were made to feel incredibly welcomed. It was if they had only opened for us. The hand over between front desk to seating to server was smooth and flawless. The food was even more incredible. Our server(Sue) made some great recommendations that turned out to be excellent choices, and was even happy to steer us away from a couple of things that she didn’t think would suit us. For example, we were going to go straight to the main(steak) but on Sue’s gentle insistence, we split a salad that was fresh and crisp and delicious and certainly eased our palette into the hearty protein that was coming. As for that steak — it was incredible. Probably the best cut, best cooked steak I’ve enjoyed for a long time. It was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfect medium rare — exactly how I asked for it. With the peppercorn sauce or without it was an absolute delight. I couldn’t find any fault. Every bite was a delight. We were halted from over ordering too many sides and settled on just the onion rings«enough for the table» was the comment from Sue, they were enough for the whole restaurant I dare say! They were big and crunchy and delicious and came with a spicy sauce I’ve forgotten the name of — but paired wonderfully with it. To put a highlight on the service standard, it was Sue’s suggestion that we forgo two desserts for the one speciality of the chocolate lava cake — which she rightly suggested would be enough for one. It was everything you expect. Moist and warm and runny in the middle with a full chocolate taste without being sickly and over powering. With the ice cream and whipped cream, it was plenty of calories :) but importantly, a wonderful delicious end to a perfect meal. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience and my only complaint is that living in Sydney is going to make it very difficult to visit again!

Pros: (+) Burger was tasty (+) Herb Fries (+) Strawberry lemonade (+) Décor is cute (+) Great for a casual brunch/dinner (+) Free WiFi(Chelsea Market’s WiFi) (+) Vegetarian options Cons: (-) Seating is tight and uncomfy (-) Not ideal for large groups especially during the winter when you have large winter coats ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I came here with a friend after a YouTube event on a busy night. The seating was a bit tight and had to squeeze in between tiny square tables. We came here during the winter time and with large winter coats it was uncomfortable since you don’t have much space to put your coats without your coat piled and mixed with the person sitting next to you. As someone mentioned before in the reviews, the seating is communal. The food is good though. I ordered the Friedman’s burger with herb fries and strawberry lemonade. I like the décor of the place and it’s within Chelsea Market. I will definitely come back here to try the breakfast and not during the winter time.

Awesome spot for brunch in the market. Very cool and hip space, but managed to feel intimate even though tables are close together. Unfortunately they can’t serve drinks before noon on Sunday, but the food makes up for it. It can be a bit noisy if nearby tables are rowdy. The staff was very friendly and quick. The food was perfect and had some good plays on normal brunch food like pulled pork benedict, short rib hash, and lots of sandwiches. The pulled pork benedict was awesome with perfectly poached eggs and tangy pork. The fried chicken and cheddar waffles were incredible. The chicken was moist, crispy, and packed with savory flavor and the waffles were cheesy and fluffy. It was a ton of food, but tasty through each bite.

Solid stop for a mid-morning bite. The Breakfast Sandwich was just the ticket, with fresh(free range) scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon, on a thick cut Sourdough toast. Accompanied by sliced avocado and bit of melted pepper jack cheese, that’s a breakfast I can get behind. A glass of freshly pressed Grapefruit juice was an added bonus. Manhattan pricing, $ 15 for breakfast, was to be expected. Worth it to me.
