Opting for breakfast/brunch a short brisk walk away, The Diner was the choice this past weekend. With a name just as «The Diner» it was given we would get a good basic breakfast and we were not wrong. Even though they were pretty full(and they have a great amount of space for a diner) we were seated fairly quickly to a very small table for two. Being a bit spacious it’s not really a typical diner experience. It’s a nice place, but a bit cramped to fit in as many tables as possible so there’s lots of dodging and dancing around others. Once seated, it was a small wait until our drink orders were taken. Service was adequate, no big hiccups with our server. I ordered The Highline(3 Eggs Any Style with Toast, Bacon,& Pancakes) and it was as I would expect. Good but nothing over the top. It came up to a ok brunch that got the job done at the time, pretty good meal. Bottom line: A definite 3 star A-OK experience at The Diner. It took care of my hunger but cannot report anything over the top. As I said, it gets the job done with an ok breakfast. I’d go again, sure, but maybe try something else to get a better experience. The potential is there.

Good place to get a quick breakfast /lunch in meat packing district. I had the chicken soup and grilled cheese today which was good. Id give it an 8⁄10. Simple dishes they execute pretty well. The location is really good and there is almost never a wait. This place is all about convenience and a place to have a quick chat. I have been here at least 6x over the years and its pretty consistent. Id give it 3.5 stars on food and 4 stars on convenience factor.

Food was great. Service was eh. And I’m pretty easy going in service. Took us 20 min to get our drinks, and another 20 after we were done eating to get our bill. Maybe we went during a bad day. The food out weighs the negatives though. So definitely feel free to check it out yourself. C+ somewhat recommended.

I went here for a quick lunch, and the experience was overall decent. There’s not really anything special here: food and service are both okay. I didn’t find anything bad particularly though, so the 3-stars means that there was nothing to really enjoy here. I ordered the Mac & Cheese with Grilled Chicken(chicken is extra), and it was just okay. Taste wasn’t bad, but it didn’t stand out at all. The pieces of chicken were very small and hard to really taste. The cheese was a little watery and not that thick. My friend got the Chicken Finger Platter; I didn’t really get to try the chicken, but I got to try the fries. The honey mustard that comes with the dish is really good, but that’s about the only thing that stood out. For the cost, I don’t really think it’s worth it, but if you’re in a rush and need somewhere to go, this restaurant isn’t a bad choice.

Buddy and I ordered the steak sandwich after being raved for by the staff when I asked what their favorites are/recommendations. To be honest, I was kind of disappointed. $ 15 for a sandwich with small portions of meat was the biggest downfall(we both thought so). And the fries… old-tasting. There was catchy music playing in the background, which was a little different and I guess they get cool points for that? If I would’ve walked a few more avenues down 14th, I would have came to a better diner in my opinion: IHOP. Or, just go there drunk and you’ll be all good.

Great diner near the Chelsea Market! Prices are reasonable for brunch and the service is great. Our food came out quickly. The breakfast drink prices are also very reasonable– $ 5 for sangria and $ 6 for mimosa and Bloody Mary. The place is reminiscent of Hard Rock Café– more glam than a typical mom and pop diner. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back but it’s a great pick if you’re in the area.

Im visiting from New Zealand and came to the«The Diner» based on a friends recommendation. service was great. The waitress was very attentive and friendly we ended up tipping more than necessary as we were so impressed with our server. I had the double cheeseburger it was great. So great we came back twice to have it again. However the Fries lacked flavor to match the awesome burger. That was the only thing which keeps me from giving a 5 rating. However all in all was a good experience.

Located in the Meatpacking District I have passed this place on several occasions because I thought nothing of it. After having passed it on a hot, humid summer day in lieu of some other places to eat, I ended up right back here for the first time. After having such an awful start at some other local haunts, my family member and I, decided on The Diner to be our eating choice. I am glad we decided on this spot because we were greeted as soon as we entered the door. The place gives you a nostalgic old school diner feel without going overboard. There is a bar area but there is plenty of booth and table seating. A plus for me is the option to sit outside for their outdoor seating to fully enjoy the people watching MD has to offer. Our server greeted us and he was a nice young man but English was not his first language which presented a barrier(nevertheless he did a decent job but clearly needed some assistance). He quickly got us two waters and a lemonade for my guest(who raved that it was sweet and made fresh). Once the drinks were taken care of we looked over the menu and I settled on the Chicken Pallard and my guest opted for the Fresh Roasted Turkey Sandwich with Fries. The Chicken Pallard(grilled chicken in lemon sauce, sautéed spinach(originally came with a side salad I opted for the spinach instead), brown rice and pita) is a delicious entrée. They do not scrimp on the portions(I took half of everything home with me) and it was made fresh. The grilled chicken was nice, tender, and the accompanying lemon sauce leaves a zing but doesn’t overpower the meal. My sides took the other half of my plate which delighted seeing as though I was starving, leaving no room for my spinach, which was served to me in a small bowl. Too full to finish. My guest, just like me, couldn’t finish their Fresh Roasted Turkey Sandwich(turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, herb mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce, on 7 grain bread), which is generous in portions. Since this was my first time here I was thoroughly satisfied with my first meal, but the service could use a bit of work. While ordering my Chicken Pallard I had to repeatedly ask my server could he please describe what came in the side salad. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do so, as a matter of fact he had to ask the hostess(who also wasn’t much help) and I finally made it over the bartender and she was able to help me. In the end, it wouldn’t bother me to come back here and try out more menu items, but the service needs a great improvement

This is no normal diner. There is a DJ and alcohol. I stumbled in at 3am after a night out in the meatpacking district. The service here is horrendous. Our waitress was too busy chatting with her friends. I had to chase her down to the kitchen just to ask for a stupid check. I ordered a plate of greasy fries covered in gravy and cheese. There were at least 2000 calories in that plate of grease, but it was good. I don’t think I will ever come here sober, only drunk.

Food: Disappointing Service: Very good Ambience: Very good The 2 star I am giving to this place is for the location and service, the food was a 1 star worthy. I stopped here with friends walking by just because they had outdoor seating at a great location. The food was flavor less and truly not good. I tried the calamari and the turkey ruben and they were both dry and flavorless. The servers saved the experience by being polite and helpful. I will not be back

Not very good service but I’m willing to forgive it because 1) sitting al fresco in the meatpacking on a cool late summer evening is just the best and 2) the turkey burger I ordered($ 13) was one of the better turkey burgers I’ve ever had. It was juicy and fresh and flavorful, served on a brioche bun with sautéed mushrooms and chipotle aioli. It came with fries and a pickle. The fries are solid – thin cut and not too crispy; I’d describe them as McDonalds-esque.

First disappointing meal while in the city. It was packed, which I am not sure if that’s because the population warrants it or I am just missing something. Breakfast tasted dry, almost like frozen breakfast warmed up. Poached eggs were terrible and breakfast potatoes were average. If you just need something to eat, it serves the purposes, but it clearly is not in the same class of exemplary food we have experienced elsewhere.

a very average experience, if you’re in the mood for boring diner food at higher than average prices(although reasonable for chelsea) then come right away to this establishment. This place really tries too hard to be a quirk in the center of the over the top trendy chelsea, by trying to really provide an atmosphere reminiscent of a 1950’s era diner. The burgers and the food here in general were very bland, could have given me a checkers burger and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, which is pretty terrible since this is a sit in restaurant, with a pretty hefty price tag for what it was. come here to be underwhelmed after a hard night of drinking, it’s fail proof

Always pass this place going to the m14, but figured it was a tourist trap for people leaving the High Line. Decided to stop in with a friend one afternoon, and we were both pleasantly surprised by the food. Solid portion sizes.(We were both pretty full after finishing half our pancakes.) Standard NYC brunch prices. Nice outdoor seating(though a bit noisy, right on a major cross street). The service is a bit slow, but maybe they’re understaffed?

Very average experience here. Waitress was very nice. They had soy milk for coffee which I always appreciate. Several orders were messed up, small things like forgetting the tomato on a sandwich but when I found bacon in my grilled cheese sandwich that was it. As a vegetarian this is really upsetting for me. The waitress was nice and obvi the meal was comped but I really worry when places are careless with things like this. Fed don’t travel to go here it’s not very special and a lot of better places around.

Price: fair. Portion size is adequate. Food: I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries. The fries were good and crunchy, though a little too salty. The chicken was dry. The guacamole was tasty. My sister had The Diner burger. The patty kept falling apart in chunks. She said it tasted fine otherwise. Service: terrible. We sat outside. Our waiter didn’t look us in the eye or tell us about the specials when taking our order. He seemed to be in a rush, but there weren’t many patrons. Halfway through our meal he dropped the bill on the table, said thank you, and scurried off. When we were done, I couldn’t find him so I went up to the bar to try to pay the bill. He came up to us and asked if we were ready to pay but the bartender was already taking care of it. He said thanks for coming and scampered off. There are better places within short walking distance from this place to spend your money.

My dad’s a doctor and because of this, my sister and I never went for proper physicals. Sure, I have a great gyno in Queens and went to a GI guy once ten years ago, but I never had an internist on my own. Now that my dad is semi-retired, he told me and my sister that it’s time for us to look for our own doctors. Today, I went for my first appointment with a strong contender to be my primary care physician for the long-term. I had been fasting since dinner last night and didn’t wrap up my appointment until about 11am. Hungry and a bit wobbly after having my blood-drawn, I asked a nurse about a place to get a great breakfast. She steered me towards«The Diner,» describing it as a «good Village spot.» I bumbled to The Diner and was escorted to an outside table. I ordered a glass of orange juice to get my strength back and some huevos rancheros, modified a bit to my particular needs. I felt rejuvenated by this meal and by being able to grab a relatively quick breakfast while looking out at the Meatpacking District. I regained the energy I needed to head to work, paid my check, and headed out. Back in my single days, I spent a fair amount of time in this part of town. Nowadays, I don’t get the chance to visit the neighborhood all that much, but I would certainly return to The Diner. Apparently, it’s supposed to be fun at night. Duly noted.

All i have to say is get their disco fries any time during the day but they are especially good late at night. That’s literally all we got and everyone was so happy. It’s a nice portion for people to share and there is so much oooey gooooey cheese and gravy on those crispy fries. The restaurant is a cute spot for just about anything: date night, night out with friends, brunch and late night munch. You also can’t beat the location… right in meat packing without breaking the bank. Come here for literally anything you want!

Yeah… I was going to go for 3 stars… and as I write this review I may go back to 3 instead of 2. In any case, I cam here drunkenly with a friend looking for fries and some disgusting drunk food. It was open, it was there, so we went in. It’s a diner… in the meatpacking district. So, I suppose I would expect slightly better than«diner» fair. The Disco fries were a good concept, but they were just blah for fries. Soggy, small… not so great. The music was seriously loud and it was basically pitch black inside. So incredibly dark! We also split the veggie burger. I’m pretty sure it was just a Dr. Praeger’s burger or something… it was just mush on mush on mush in terms of texture and taste. I’m glad that we had food, but I’ve definitely experienced better(drunk or sober).
