This is a nice bar that offer 30 craft beers, a big sitting area, and an open counter overlooking the street. The only thing I had here was the duck poutine and maybe it wasn’t the best choice considering I was sober. The portion is pretty big for $ 12. Poutine is French fries, cheese curd, gravy, and here they topped it off with duck so it was a very heavy meal. This dish is native to Canada and I’ve had it there severs times. The poutine was just ok. The dish had way too much gravy so most of the fries were soggy vs crispy. There weren’t enough cheese curds on there. The duck was a nice addition but it was a little gamey. The fish needed a some spice or herb to balance out the richness. Would like to come back and try another dish here

Awesome place, great food and a spicy chicken sandwich with a kick. Ask for the gay, black bartender named Justin(photo attached) he’s the man.

Staff was too busy feeling each other up to pay attention to any customers. An order of a pretzel took over 45 min. Oh and they only paid the male patrons any attention. Gotta love being a female in NY aka invisible. Won’t return.

Love Fools Gold. One of my fav craft beer spot. Come here quite often; alone or with friends. Super fun staff and wonderful craft beer selections. They often do tap takeovers which is cool when they have tour fav Brewers. They did Ommegang once and I was a very happy gal! Hope they do The Bruery soon! And if they’ve already done it… they should do it again haha. Anyways, great ambiance, pretty dope music and spacious. They have great food too! Tacos are yummy, their burgers are pretty killer too.

Somewhat under the radar. Their draft list is legitimate and can hold their own with anyone. When I was there they had numerous Modern Times, Grimm, and Bruery drafts to name a few. I was able to watch the Pens game and Warriors games simultaneously. The pricing was $ 1 – 2 higher(not obscene) than it should have been from a draft standpoint in my opinion. My Bruery draft was 12 bones… seems a bit much.

Great Happy Hour foods, and decent beer. Try the tacos — messy but so worth messy hands(and laps). Seems to be a great local spot with chill bartenders and caz atmosphere. If I was an actual NYer, I’d make this a common spot.

Stopped in for Brunch, but as soon as we sat the brunch menus were pulled. It would have been nice to be warned that Brunch was over but I saw the amounts of taps at this place and decided to settle in and have a drink w/my gf. Brian(sp?) told us he would be with us in a minute and BOOM ! A fountain of information about anything and everything alcohol came pouring out of him. The guy knew everything, conversation led to me finding one of my new favorite IPA’s Citradelic and my GF was completely satisfied with her cocktail. It was the one that had the warning that it would creep up on you lol. Overall great experience and we will definitely be back, we didn’t even get into the bourbons at this place!!! I CAN’T WAIT!

Love this spot…5 thumbs up for their truffle fries! The best truffle fires I have had and good sharing portion too. This place still selling food at 2:00am in the morning good place to go for good bar snack. Amazing range of craft beer on tap, and if you are at all unsure regarding what to get the staffs here are more then happy to help you out and pick one for you.

Came here for work purposes and I cannot wait to come back for fun. The bar is beautiful in a wooded kind of way. They have so much beer, it’s a beer lover’s paradise. The Monday Trivia night was excellent and the staff is so much fun. Although I didn’t get to taste any of the food, the menu looked and smelled delicious. They also have excellent promos where you can sample many brand’s liquors throughout the week. I am so excited to go back!

One of my favorite places to drink in Manhattan. Between here, Jeffrey, and Alewife, they’ve done something correct. Beers on draft are always good. They do a ton of tap takeovers, and i mean, like 27 lines worth of takeover(sometimes). The place is large, if you walk in and it seems packed, it’s because every single person congregates towards the front, and no one walks back, it’s weird. There’s a ‘secret’ third bathroom around the side towards the back, and as i’m typing this, already regretting saying that, but too lazy to hold down the delete button. Bartenders are nice, don’t be surprised if it takes a moment to get a drink though when there’s a ton of people waiting for a beer. The food is good to. Go here, now, seriously, i’ll wait…

Great menu options, but the dishes fall flat. We sat down at a table, but had to order at the bar. We got 10 garlic parmsean wings and the duck confit poutine. The poutine was good, but the wings were dry and had a plastic taste. I also had Stone Delicious beer/liquor«cocktail». The description boasted a lemony, candy flavor but I didn’t get any of that.

If you like craft beer, an open layout, nice staff, a great happy hour, and awesome food… COMEHERE!!! I have been searching for good craft beer bars and I’m so happy to have found this place. They have everything you can think of and more. I am a beer drinker but I’m sure you will find your favorite rare cocktails combinations here as well. Just looking at the offerings, they have everything! This concept seems simple, but I can tell you that I have tried TONS of places and nothing compares.(Well maybe the Jeffrey which is owned by the same folks). The best part is that you don’t have to leave to get good food, they have great options here! I seriously can’t say enough about this bar and I hope you come here to experience it for yourself.

Good sized bar plus three long hightop tables in back — great for larger groups. Music was current pop/rock — loud but you can still hear yourself think. I had a James King cocktail — which had way too much ginger syrup to suit me. Guys behind the bar seemed nice enough. I was looking at the gin selection — Hendricks, Beefeater, Tanqueray, Heymans, Bombay Sapphire

Came here for a casual Friday dinner after post-work drinks. The bar was pretty crowded with the happy hour rush, but we managed to find a table in the back, near the second bar. The place is sort of divey, but slightly more well-maintained than than most dive bars. The beer selection was pretty good with their rotating drafts, although I kinda went with a more run-of-the-mill selection with my Allagash White. Regardless, there are many different draft beers you can select from, as well as a great bottle selection. As for food, most of us went for the Gold Label burger, which was pretty flavorful, despite being slightly overcooked. The fries though. We got an extra basket of garlic fries, because why the heck not? When they came out, we were a little confused because there wasn’t any semblance of seasoning on the fries, but once we took a taste, we realized that the fries had been drizzled with garlic butter, the light bulb went off in our heads. Hoo wee, those were good. We saw someone come out with the Irish Nachos, which looked huge and loaded with toppings, so will definitely have to try that during a future visit. Service was decent at the very beginning, but got kinda spotty near the end of our meal, as it took almost 15 minutes to get our check. The prices are actually pretty reasonable for both food and drinks during normal hours, although I’d like to try their happy hour some time, which includes $ 5 beers, wine, and whiskey drinks. In all, it’s a fun vibe, plenty of screens for sports, and a decent amount of space. Not a bad place for casual drinks and pub food on Houston Street.

first bar using the Winter Tippler book. Got the James King. I’m a Whisky girl. I enjoy drinking slow sips of whisky accompanied by a good comfort of warmth. That’s not how Fools Gold’s James King was to me. This reminded me of college whisky drink you would serve to seem sophisticated. Usually at midway of any good whisky drink, Im feeling content and buzzed. I finished my James King as if there it was soda drink. I’m not sure if it maybe they skimped out on the alcohol because i had the Winter Tippler book or the drink just wasn’t strong enough. Though drink wasn’t good. the bartenders(Nino and a couple of the girls) were friendly, he even recommended us where to go for our next stop. Will probably stop by again next time, but wont get the James King.

I love bars in NYC that not only have a great drink selection but good food. This is a nice place to grab a drink and hang out. The drink menu is about 6 pages long and the food menu is just as extensive. The bartenders were very nice and attentive. We ordered Buffalo Wings and the Duck Confit Poutine. The wings were amazing. Anyone that knows me knows that I love wings and I was very impressed. The Duck Confit Poutine was very good as well. The poutine was a bit greasy for me being that I am trying to watch my diet but everything was good. All in all this is a solid place and Im sure that the rest of the food is good as well. I definitely recommend this place!

This is how you do a gastropub. The beer lines are myriad and choices interesting, the space is large enough for parties of any size without being a total cavern and the food choices surprising while still pairing well with plenty of alcohol. Sitting right on the border of Alphabet City and the Lower East Side, Fools Gold isn’t particularly close to my office but it’s also on the way for home for colleagues who live in Brooklyn or further uptown. It’s a place where the first time we came one beer turned into four and I arrived at the office the next day with much more of a hangover than anticipated. Beer isn’t cheap here but you are paying for the variety and eclectic nature of the sours, ales and IPAs. I wish the non-speciality beers came in a full 16 oz. pint, but at least the menu is honest about the 12 and 14 oz. size of the pours. We eventually ate some truffle fries, nachos and white bean hummus. All of these were a bit elevated from standard bar food, but weren’t overly fussy. All were quite enjoyable. There’s some good happy hour specials on drinks and oysters, so it pays to arrive before 7 p.m. to get the first round or two in a nice price.

We were excited to have stumbled upon Fools Gold, sister bar of The Jeffrey, while waiting to catch a movie at the amazing Sunshine Cinemas next door. The crowd was a little bit rowdy, but it was otherwise an enjoyable atmosphere for catching the end of some football games while we waited. We ordered a couple of beers from the gigantic draft system(I had an Anne by Saint Somewhere, a farmhouse saison with floral notes) and noticed that the food looked pretty good, too. Since my friends and I were looking for a new spot to have our next Oyster Club meeting, I took special note of the oyster happy hour(M-F, 4−7pm), which consists of 6 oysters + one of two predetermined happy hour beers for $ 12. One thing that’s interesting to note is that you have to get the beer to get the dollar oysters, so it’s imperative that you like both of these to enjoy this particular special. We all do, so last night we did indeed come back to Fools Gold for the oyster HH. All of the oysters were East Coast Ware River. A friend and I got the Black Hog Down, a black IPA, and another had the Pumple Drumpkin, a pumpkin beer. We were a little bummed that we happened to put in the last three oyster orders of the day, because I know I definitely would have had more, but this allowed us to branch out and try some additional menu items: –Craft grilled cheese sandwich(Maple smoked cheddar, fig spread, truffle butter), served with sriracha tomato bisque. This was really tasty, but it was a little overpowered by the fig. The bisque wasn’t something I’d order again. Charcuterie plate: Tasso ham, Proscuitto di San Daniele, gouda and goat cheese, served with almonds, dried apricot, and fig spread. Great meats and cheeses. I especially liked the ham, which was super smoky and kinda spicy. I’d definitely come back to try the brunch, the cocktails, the cocktails on tap, the wine on tap, pretty sure there’s a whiskey on tap…

Fools Gold NYC NY Manhattan LES 10pm Saturday 7th November 2015 Four Stars. Hopefully named after the romantic comedy starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, Fools Gold is a bar for everyone. The dim lighting, wooden furniture, and décor added to the miner theme. It had plenty of flatscreen TVs turned to every NCAAF game including the SEC network. They had at least 30 Craft Draft Beers including a Gose and Rhubarb Beer. They also had an extensive American Whiskey selection. We didn’t eat but the Tacos and Deviled Eggs looked delicious as well. It was bit hard to get a drink and the music was a bit loud in certain places. Other than that, it was enjoyable place to drink, watch the games, and hang out.

Fools gold is among one of my favorite places in nyc. Great beer selection, they started carrying my favorite bourbon and the food is on point. They are right on Houston ave between Forsyth and Eldridge in the LES. Every time I come in the beer selection is something new and on my last visit they had a few beers on tap from Hill Farmstead. This was the first time I had tried their beer after hearing about them over a year ago. They also have some good bourbon to choose from, I’ve been working in Kentucky for the last few months so I have honed my bourbon taste. One of my favorites seemed to be only avaliable in and around Kentucky, until I saw the uniquely shaped bottle on their shelf and asked if it was the 12yr. It was and that pretty much set in stone my urge to come here every time I go out. I also love the atmosphere and décor, it’s dimly lit and usually nice and quiet. Of course I come here on the off nights, weekdays or Sundays. I’m sure on the hot nights like Friday and Saturday it’s probably packed. The food is also great, I’ve tried a little bit of everything and have zero complaints or critiques. So stop by, sit at the bar and enjoy and good beer or bourbon. The bar staff if super friendly and always ready to answer and questions you have.
