After they dye your hair, they will charge you 30 bucks for a bad blow dry, which is not a blow dry at all. Other places don’t charge for this. Not going back. My choice was leave with wet hair or pay 30. Cool huh.

A fantastic haircut. I was nervous about trying both a new place AND a new style… Not anymore

Fabio is awesome. I came on the recommendation of a friend, who has been getting her hair cut by him for TENYEARS, and I can see why she’s stuck with him all this time. He has a wonderfully disarming and friendly demeanor, and clearly is very skilled at his trade. The head and neck massage he gave me during the wash was enough to hook me. I can only speak for that, the haircut and the blow dry, as I didn’t get my hair colored, but the lady sitting next to me getting her highlights done seemed like another very happy, loyal customer who cheerily proclaimed, «you’re gonna glad you found this place. Great people here.» I will definitely be going back, and have already sent the hubby over(who was similarly pleased).

I would never go to this shop again. I made my appointment with Fabio on the phone. I distinctly said I wanted a wash, curl and style. When I got there, it was washed and blown dry with a round brush. My hair is very fine and I asked if he was going to curl it with an iron. He said no, it would stay just fine the way he way doing it. Wash and blow dry took only 15 minutes. Not enough time to do me justice. No curling, no teasing… my hair started drooping before I got home. I had to completely restyle it on my own. I would never go to this shop again.

tl;dr: if you make the mistake of coming here, you’ll spend twice as much getting it fixed at another salon. Without sounding like a jerk, I have«perfect hair»(stick straight, soft volume, I can usually skip conditioner). Super easy to style. I came to Fabio to get a cut before an interview. While I was getting my hair washed, he left the salon to yell at someone on the phone for about six minutes straight. I’m talking, YELLING — It was very unprofessional and I was a little afraid to say anything that might set him off again. In the end, he did a massively uneven cut with literally chunks of hair in the back two inches longer than the rest. It was also a revival of «the Rachel,» so that sucked too. Plus, he overcharged me — everyone here says it was $ 37 but he charged me $ 65!!! Spent $ 90 and two hours getting it fixed by a real stylist, who said«Oh hellllll no!» upon seeing the unevenness, then showed it to her junior stylist who had to stifle a laugh. Stay away: unprofessional, shady, and bad at his job.

DISCLAIMER: I have THE worst hair you have ever seen(it looks like genetics threw up on my forehead… forget curls, I have straight up frizz). Fabio managed to tame my frizzy mess and provide me with a nice blow out in a matter of 30 minutes. The only reason I gave this place 3 stars instead of 5, is because I noticed portions of my hair were still damp after the blowout, and I didn’t think that was very professional. Also, the blowout didn’t hold for very long. Nevertheless, Fabio was a very nice and talkative hairstylist and I enjoyed my time there.

The place is not that organized. Fabio is the only one cutting. He jumps from one client to another and you really don’t have the impression much attention is given to your haircut. Took the appointment via Lifebooker. Seemed like a deal at the time but really wasn’t as they add services(flat iron) and charge you at check-out. The price ends up being the same as going to a better studio.

When my sister and I moved to UES, the search immediately began for finding the best businesses within proximity… you know the usual search when you move to a new neighborhood-finding the best grocery store, nail salon, cleaners/taylors, etc. However, when it came to hair salons, I never even contemplated switching hairdressers, even though schlepping to the Bronx was such an inconvenience. Luckily, my sister is the laid back type, who will just try anything and anyone… she went to Fabio’s. I told her she was crazy to just pop in and have someone dye her beautiful, long, blonde locks. As most women know, that is just crazy talk. What Fabio, himself, did with my sister’s hair was gorgeous, an amazing color & cut that she never had before. Needless to say my sister was our circle of friends’ little guinea pig, because now, of course we all go to Fabio. Not only are his prices so reasonable, but Fabio is just so cool to be around. He gives you his honest opinion, however listens to you as well. Many times I feel as though hairdressers just take over and do what they want with your hair, regardless of your wishes. When you tell Fabio to make the smallest of smallest trims: aka«dust it» lol, he does it :-) Fabio is so easy to talk to, which makes sitting in the chair pleasurable; which for me is a relief, because many times getting my hair done feels like a chore. He has many years of experience with the craft, as well as with owning his own salon. His staff are very personable people, the environment/décor is laid-back, trendy, & classy. It’s like going to a chichi salon, minus the outrageous prices and pretentiousness. If you’re tired of schlepping to get your hair done and would like something on the UES; tired of digging really deep into your pockets; and just frustrated with your hairstyle~I highly recommend giving Fabio’s a try. I know its a difficult decision picking a hairstylist and it usually happens by friend’s recommendation, but Unilocal is definitely the new trusted«word of mouth.»
