I absolutely love coming here when I crave Spanish food. This may be the most authentic Spanish food you will eat on the lower east side. Everything is made in the restaurant and tastes as though your abuelita has been cooking on a hot stove all day. My favorite thing to order is their steak sandwich with lettuce onions and mayonnaise. But their pernil with rice and beans is also great. If you’re ever on the lower east side definitely check this place out!

En Espanol… this place is Asi Asi. lol We couldnt wait an hour for the delivery just up the block so I went in and did take out. It looked Gross and was empty on a Friday night. The food was just ok… not terrible but nothing good at all. And usually at Spanish spots like this its always too much food that you get. We spent 10 bucks each and there wasnt enough food in the end. I wouldnt go back and actually yelled at my friend that he needs to step it up where he eats.

This restaurant location on Grand Street really gives spanish food a bad taste in people mouths! Being spanish and born and raised in the Lower East Side i can actually say that this place is absolutely horrible. On Saturday I ordered a seafood platter and i swear they should have given me a bowl of oil, DISGUSTING!!! Word of advise to this restaurant«replace chef’ immediately.

Service was bad. Food was undercooked and cold. They gave a little attitude and didn’t give us bread at the beginning. They also kept forgetting to give us water. It use to be good a few years ago. What happen?

I’ve been going here for a while and am friendly with one of the guys who works there, so it’s really unfortunate that I have to write this, but today I went in there for lunch and found a fingernail in my food and that’s just wrong. A hair is gross but somewhat understandable. But a fingernail? Like what’s going on back in the kitchen? So now I guess I’m a Unilocal reviewer.

I had a horrible experience as I was here. First thing was sat at the counter and wasn’t acknowledged for few minutes. After I put my order in I was never offered a beverage. I ordered pepper steak for dine in and small beef tripe to go then changed my mind shortly after for larger order of soup he charged me for 2 smalls. When I brought to his decision he came at me with attitude and sucked his lips. To top it off he then charged me for garlic oil for my plantains that wasn’t on original bill. There were no complaints that I couldn’t afford it by any means just that it became a problem after I brought it to the gentleman. After being a regular for 15+ years on Rivington St. I will never return to this location.

I come here for breakfast a lot. I love the mangu, fried salami, fried cheese, and onions with two eggs over easy. The Spanish coffee is also amazing; with just a touch of cinnamon. The avena(oatmeal) is good too. For lunch I usually get baked chicken yellow rice, and red beans with a side of avocado(that’s extra, when they have). They have A LOT of other choices. You get a lot of food and the cost is extremely reasonable. They accept credit cards, and its street parking. I find the service to be good but I go all the time at a very specific time, and they’re extremely familiar with me so I may be biased in that regard. I love the lovely lady that usually serves me. My coffee is always just the way I like it.

Good food, I ordered chuletas(2 pork chops) with rice & beans($ 11) and my boyfriend ordered a cubano sandwich with fries($ 6). The pork chop was so juicy & flavorful, I only ate half of my meal, I was stuffed. The servers were nice.

Ok, I can count what’s good here on like one hand. The mangu is good, the chicken noodle soup is good, the chocolate cake, the fresh lemonade and THATISIT. The avena has gotten better, but I’ve still had WAY better. White rice is a staple, so I’m not counting that. Their beans taste like they use way too much sazon and other powders, and not enough fresh ingredients. The baked chicken is DRY. I’m cringing as I write this thinking about their baked chicken. Their chicharron de pollo is super greasy. Their tostones aren’t the right density. Anytime I’ve ordered a bacon, egg and cheese they left one of the three out and then gave attitude about their error, so I just stopped ordering. Nothing special here.

Love this place order from them all the time. My favorite is the mangu for Sunday morning breakfast. My son is a huge fan of fried chicken without bones with rice and beans. Great service.

If you are looking for an inexpensive quick bite, this place is for you. Foods are good. Service… What service? Seats are not comfortable. Therefore, you must eat and run. Order the daily specials, and you can’t go wrong. This is Dominican comfort foods.

Absolutely shitty customer service!.. AND I WASORDERINGTAKE-OUT! Lowest common denominator of food service ppl work here. Food quality was ok, priced a little high when taking whole experience into consideration. Would NOT recommend unless you’re desperate

I honestly can’t even speak for the food. Me and my friend received such poor service that we just left. The waitress didn’t even acknowledge that we walked in to the restaurant and after 5 minutes in we waved to get her attention and only then did we get menus 5 minutes later. Water took another 5 minutes to come. So we were about to order and my friend couldn’t decide but that was the last straw there, I mean who are you to roll your eyes and act like you’re all miserable being here.

This place it’s usually good, but the last time I went, with my girlfriend and her friend, it was a disaster. The waitress took forever to take our order, we waited an hour just to get our food, and she didn’t bring my girlfriend’s food. When we asked her where the food was she denied ever hearing the order and didn’t even apologize. The food is good but it’s not always hot and the wait staff can be real jerks. It’s too bad there aren’t other Spanish restaurants close by.

What can I say, Great Spanish Food in the Lower East Side where they really know how to do it up! I love this place. I have been coming to this Castillo’s and the sister one since I was a little girl. The food never disappoints and you can ALWAYS count on leaving here with a full belly. The prices aren’t THAT cheap, but you are getting what you’re paying for. The daily Specials are around 8 – 12 $, but they pack that plate with so much food, you can eat twice from it. Service is quick and the waitresses are nice. The only complaint I have about this place is the décor. It’s really bland inside. Plain walls, Plain tables, No music. They need to liven it up so you really feel happy coming here!

Every time we visit to NYC we try to hit up a lot of local small restaurants. This is the best city to do that and this restaurant is an example of a must try! No, it’s not fancy with table cloth service like other places but the food is delicious and inexpensive. That’s what makes it worth while. The restaurant makes authentic dominican/cuban/latin food. We came for brunch on a Saturday and it wasn’t too packed. My friend kept raving about their Mangu(mashed plantains) which is apart their Dominican breakfast. I decided to order it and it was so good. The Dominican breakfast comes with Mangu, topped with sauteed onions, fried salami, fried cheese, and you can order with or without eggs. I ordered mine with 2 fried over easy eggs. It is one of the most delicious meals I had all weekend. Huge portion, you’ll be full all day. How much. $ 7!!! Not bad for breakfast in NYC and so satisfying. My husband wasn’t as adventrous and decided for a more american breakfast which they also do. Pancakes, Eggs, Bacon. He loved the pancakes, they were thick and sweet. You can taste a hint of vanilla and/or cinnamon. Around us people were eating lunch. rice, beans, fried porkchops… their food looked just as yummy. This is a spot to come any time of the day. The prices are cheap, the portions are big, service was quick and friendly… just how I like it.
