From the outside, Edo did not look like much. Since the restaurant was on the second floor of a walk-up building, it was not easy to see inside its singular bay window. However, once I climbed the steps, I found myself in a casual, yet modern and elegant, dining room with a small sushi bar in the rear corner. Despite my colleagues’ praise for the sushi restaurant, it took me close to two years to finally make it there. However, I am happy to report that I could agree with their opinion. I feel like it is hard to locate decent sushi in the city without going to an expensive, high-end place. And sure spots like Soto are great, but most of the time, I want something more laidback. Edo is perfect for satisfying this need. The menu was pretty elaborate and interesting, but I wound up just settling on the Two Roll Lunch Special. I started by selecting the salad over the soup. The bowl was pretty standard with mainly romaine lettuce, 2 small pieces of cucumber, and strands of carrot. Some tomatoes or additional cucumbers would have gone a long way to spruce it up, though. I did like that the tangy ginger dressing was served on the side by default so my greens remained crisp. My roll selection consisted of the Shrimp with Mango and an Eel Avocado. The shrimp were succulent in texture, but lacked flavor and were over-powered by the sweet mango. The eel was coated in the traditional barbecue sauce and was reasonably fresh. I loved that the rolls were chilled and firm, keeping them intact.(I simply despise when my careful chopsticks skills wind up tearing my rolls to shreds!) Edo was casual enough to act as an everyday sushi destination, but was refined enough to still feel like a step above an average neighborhood joint. I would say it was a 3.5 star experience.

Hmm fresh fish… Fresh RAW fish is all that I want. I stopped by with my cousin for a late lunch. Since lunch specials run till 4pm, I got the sashimi lunch(9 piece) and added a white tuna and avo roll. Perfect amount and each bite was delectable. I would definitely come here for the lunch pricing. Aside from that, a lot of what they have can be found elsewhere. Knocking off a star because there was something in my ice in my water. But hey, nothing like using your chopsticks to fish it out and hoping your immune system grows stronger. ;)

Greatest casual sushi place in New York. Favorites include shrimp shumai soup and deep impact roll. Great prices and even better lunch specials. They also offer awesome daily specials that are sure to satisfy. Underrated but awesome! Highly recommend!

I found Edo sushi on a whim by walking in a few years back and have loved it ever since! It is one of the best and most fresh sushi joints in the city. I am a regular coming in a few times a week. They have amazing lunch specials and offer brown rice sushi as well. My favorite rolls are the«Let it Snow» roll and the«Deep Impact» Roll. The Kani Salad is the best I have ever had. Their sashimi servings are amazing as well. They have great service and are very attentive. I will miss this place if I ever leave NYC!!! HIGHLY recommended.

Saturday evening found us in the Chelsea/Union Square area and wanting to travel to our favorite sushi uptown we searched & found Edo’s! We were not disappointed. Our selections were fresh & delicious. The service was over the top! Completely attentive to our needs. This is now our favorite sushi restaurant.

Not much to say. Average sushi for NYC. Wait staff did a fine job, no ambience and they were fast with the food. Bottom line is there are beter places in NYC and close by. Not a place for dinner. Lunch at best.

The food was not that great, I got the chicken teriyaki lunch box and the chicken had no flavor… I didn’t even touch the miso soup, as you could see in the picture it was cloudy and it just basically looked weird. The service was ok

One of my favorite places for sushi in Union Square. I order through Seamless for lunch at least twice a month as I find their lunch specials very reasonably priced. The sushi is always fresh and tastes good. I’ve come here a couple times for dinner as well, but I prefer lunch. I usually get their salmon and avocado roll and spicy crunchy salmon roll, plus a miso soup. I also have tried their bento boxes, which are good. The service isn’t the friendliest, but they are quick and attentive.

Good price for sushi lunch: Any 2 rolls + soup or salad: $ 10 Any 3 rolls + soup or salad: $ 14 They offer delivery(which is very convenient for lunch at the office if you work nearby). Good affordable sushi. The restaurant is usually crowded during peak hours and very loud. If you want to go with a date, better do early or late dinner ;) It’s not the best sushi in town but it gets the job done! And it’s always fresh and well prepared. I’m a regular here since it’s great for whenever I need a quick lunch delivery when I’m busy at work.

If your are looking for medium priced fresh tasty sushi this is the place to go. The food is always fresh. You can get brown rice rolls at no extra charge most places charge $ 1. I love there lunch deal 3 rolls for $ 13. Be sure to ask for extra ginger they go a little light on the ginger for takeout. I m a big fan of the the SPICYTUNAANDAVOCADOTARTAR it a generous amount of lightly spiced tuna tar tar, with about half a inch of chopped avocado on top and finished off with tobiko. If you live in the area make this your to go sushi and seamless place.

Rude as f*ck. walked in to order takeout and they just waved their hands and screamed at me to get out because the kitchen is backed up.

Good sushi — yes. Best sushi — no. Good, fast service — yes. Best, friendly service — no. Good prices — absolutely. Convenient location, clean establishment. Come here for a quick cheap lunch or bite after work. But if you’re looking for a «nice» sushi restaurant or something a little more elaborate or fancy, opt for somewhere else.

My go-to spot for lunch when I’m in the Union Square area and craving Japanese food! Lunch special prices are pretty reasonable(although they’ve gone up recently), food is decent(the sushi isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but still pretty good!), and I’ve always found the service to be attentive. It gets fairly crowded around lunch though, so I’d recommend coming a little earlier if you can so you can grab a seat!

Came here for lunch. The restaurant is really clean. The lunch special is cheap but the size of the sushi is really small, it was literally the size of my pointer finger. I’ve never had sushi so thin before. My friend had the bento box and that looked more normal.

Searched up «lunch» around Union Square and one of the top choices that came up was Edo Sushi. As fellow Unilocalers raved about their lunch specials, it was hard to resist checking it out! I was amazed by how packed the place was, not sure how people could even hear each other because it was so loud. I decided to order a to-go since there were no more available tables(around 12:40pm.) The three rolls special is now $ 13. To be exact, it’s $ 14.15 after tax! Sorry to disappoint the people who wrote the reviews last year saying it used to be $ 11 or $ 12. The sushi itself was decent. Spicy salmon wasn’t really spicy, or maybe that was just me! But the Eel avocado roll was good! Generous amount of avocado and the eel. This is probably the part that ruined my experience: It was really windy out today so I decided to wait in the store. The waitress told me I would have to wait 20 – 25 minutes for my order because the sushi bar was busy, okay fine. Then she said I could wait inside, and directed me to a chair… that was placed a foot away from the bathroom. I felt so awkward sitting there, kind of like a kid that got in trouble and had to sit at the corner as a punishment. My suggestion to the company, please move that chair somewhere else. My suggestion to fellow Unilocalers, call and order ahead!

Excellent! Price is right. Fish is fresh. Décor is cool. Location is awesome. Service is average but it’s totally fine since it’s good sushi and such an economical price. PS Udon is just OK. I’d stick to the sushi menu.
