Its a shame that I need to give this place such a poor review because Glory does a good job on my hair, but I feel like I’ve been swindled. I’ve been going to this location for the past two years and its always been a good experience until today. Glory informed me while she was doing my hair that the price for my color and hair cut had gone up by $ 5 for each service. It would have been nice to find this out prior to my appointment, but whatever. I couldn’t remember how much I had paid the last time so I checked the receipts on my phone and the prices fluctuated between $ 48-$ 55 for each service and the last time I paid $ 48. When I went to pay at the front, the receptionist charged me $ 65 for each service. I told him that I have the receipt from last time and it was $ 48 for color and he refused to even look at it. I believe his name is Metro. He was extremely rude. Glory came over and said that it must have been labeled incorrectly and she usually charges $ 50. She was like from now on the price will be $ 70 for each service. So I’m not sure how the price is now $ 20 more for each service but I will certainly not be coming back. One of the reasons I go to Dramatics is because their prices are more reasonable than the other salons in the area so for them to increase their price by that much seems wrong.

I wanted to leave a review because it seems like this place has poor ratings, but Gloss is the absolute best! She’s spectacular at everything, always gives you what she wants, teaches and explains anything and everything about hair, and offers the perfect suggestions. Worth every dollar! She gets booked like crazy so you definitely need to be there on time, even if you have to wait a bit.

I walked in for a simple haircut on a Friday night before Halloween and Brite was able to take me! I was very happy with the service and advice I received and even happier with the cost as it is impossible to get a simple haircut under 75! Mine was 50+Tax+Tip. Will go back!

I had been growing my hair out for several months to get a bob long in the front with an undercut in the back. My hair stylist was very sweet, and asked me several times my opinion on the shave and length. Having short hair and often getting pushback from stylists I appreciated that. I asked for an undercut in the back, with the sole intention of being able to put my hair into a pony tail and having it look super cute and symmetrical. The bob came out great when my hair is down but the next day I put my hair up and it looked crooked — I came in and she said it wasn’t crooked my hair was just too short to put in a ponytail and that I needed bobby pin/spray to keep it so that it looked symmetrical in the back. I bought the spray but am frustrated that I now have to grow my hair out again and put product in to maintain what should be an easy up-do. I specifically told her when I cut my hair that I don’t use product and that I wanted to be able to do a ponytail. I feel like hairdressers take it for granted that you will do what they«prescribe» for your hair. This is my second cut with Dramatics(my first was on Broadway in the 90’s) and I think it’s a great place to go if you’re an informed consumer but you have to be aware.

Worst experience ever. 0 advice, 0 attention, 0 hello. I look like I just came back from a bad trip on the subway! Never again.

Sparkle was the one cutting my hair. While her personality is very easy going and bubbly, her job left much to be desired. There is no shape to it, the cut is uneven. Once blowdried it looked fine, however after a washed it I realized how cheap it actually looks. She did not take my hair texture into consideration and just chopped straight chunky pieces around my face which I think were meant to be face framing layers?! She did not layer the haircut properly but just cut a cm off the longest layer that i had. My hair looks limp and bulky. Shame on stylists who don’t take pride in their work. Never again. As in a previous review, you get what you pay for.

I am so suprised by all the bad reviews. I have gotten my hair cut many times there. A few years ago at the UES location I got my hair cut by Glory and my hair was beautiful and she was very pleasant(she is now at the UWS location). Later I went to the UWS because of convenience and was put with Gloss and it was love at first cut and have been going to her since. She has cut my hair when it was long and then cut it off when I requested it, and I go back to retouch my slanted bob. A girlfriend of mine started going to Gloss and she is also very happy. The receptionists have always been pleasant over the phone and in person. The shampooers are always very sweet(please don’t forget to tip them!). I got an updo once by another stylist(it was Gloss’s day off) and my hair was gorgeous. I got compliments all night. Again, I am suprised by the bad reviews. I always notice that the stylists know their customers well, so people do return. I highly recommend Gloss! And Glory.

This was my second and last visit to this salon! My first haircut was done by a guy named Broadway, and I must say He did a wonderful job, so props to you. My second visit Was not so nice, the women that cut my hair looked like it was her first time cutting a mans hair, as she got startled when the clippers turned on, that’s when I knew I was in for a treat. I can’t help but think that the condescending receptionist(the troll like one with to much make up) knew this would happen as she watched closely. So she butchered my hair and it’ll grow back. As for me, I will not return to this salon nor recommend it(sorry for those talented).

London is cool. She was the 1st one to cut my hair. I always enjoyed my visits w/her but as far as professionalism they lacked big time. Very catty atmosphere.

I moved to the upper west side in NYC July 2013 and was nervous about trying a new hairstylist. Around the holidays 2013, I went to Dramatics NYC on 72nd and haven’t gone any where else since. Glory is my Stylist and always knows just what to do with my hair. She has never steered me wrong. I love the staff they are all so nice and truly pamper me with every visit. I moved to the west village in July 2014 and I still come up here once a month to get my hair done by Glory.

Two weeks ago, I noticed I needed a trim, so I headed to my trusty neighborhood standby, Dramatics. As someone who is generally very laid back with her hair(it will always grow back), I was horrified by how I treated. It was my first time using SJ(formerly known as Electra), and it was a traumatizing experience that left me simultaneously enraged and on the verge of tears. She started out nice and friendly, but within minutes the conversation took a turn for the worse. When I asked for a trim of an inch and to fix my layers, she said«no cut. I don’t want to cut the hair. Long hair is pretty. Short hair is not.» Ummm, ok fine… but I’m here to get my hair cut, not get your opinion on long vs. short hair. I decided to play along and leave the length, so I would only get my layers trimmed. This made her very pleased… I could see her smiling from ear to ear in the mirror. However, that doesn’t last long. Her demeanor changed very quickly when I ask her to cut the back of my hair a bit shorter than the front. I say it’s because I feel that my hair grows faster in the back. She looks outraged and adamantly argues/disagrees with me. «No, it no look good. I told you, long hair is pretty. Listen to me, ok?» Who am I to argue with someone who is holding scissors that are pointed at my head? I was not feeling very safe at this point. Once again, I gave into what she said. So far, I had gotten nothing that I requested from my stylist. She was now sporting a permanent scowl on her face as she viciously hacked away at my hair. She was not even trying to make sure my layers are even or precise. She’s just grabbing random chunks of hair and snipping away. At one point, I noticed my bangs look so blocky that it looks like two different wigs… so I politely asked her if she could blend it in more. She gave me major attitude and snootily/angrily said, «What you want? You cut hair or I cut the hair?» At this point, I just shut up and sit there, hoping it will all be over soon. She hacked away for another 5 minutes, and then proclaimed, «Finished.» Oh, and she tried to up-sell me on a blowout multiple times, insisting that Asian hair can only be cut properly with a blowout. Her mood significantly worsened with each time I said, «no, thank you.» Post haircut, I was clearly upset, but attempted to smile and say thanks. She stormed away and immediately started angrily muttering to another stylist. I had to restrain myself from screaming at her. The receptionist/cashier tried to improve my experience when I told him that the stylist was rude, pretentious, and unprofessional. He comp’d my haircut and offered to have another stylist take a look. But, why would I want to sit in that salon for another second longer and have crazy SJ(formerly known as Electra) glaring at me in the mirror? No, thanks. Even his attempt to make me feel better didn’t feel very genuine. I only tipped her 3 dollars because I felt bad leaving no tip. In hindsight, I realize that I shouldn’t have left anything because now she thinks this level of customer service is ok and she will continue to talk down to other customers. I will NEVER return here after my experience with SJ(formerly known as Electra). UPDATE(10÷16÷14) Over a month after the fact, one of the receptionists from the salon, Tre, reached out to ask if I would reconfirm the identity of my stylist. Electra’s name has been changed to «SJ» on the website. It’s quite ironic that in her bio, it says her goal is to make sure all of clients leave her chair happy. I still cringe when I think about how rude and demeaning she was while she angrily hacked away at my hair.
