On Sunday, Jan. 10 around 11 am, I ordered an egg white and sausage breakfast sandwich on a roll. The sandwich was barely warm when they handed it to me but I ate half of it. I started vomiting at 4 am early the next morning. I’m now in day 2 of a terrible case of food poisoning. Stay away from this place!

Take it or leave it… Fresh enough but not amazing… Feels like a convenience store inside instead of deli. Service is a bit rude. Overpriced in my opinion.

I returned back to this deli to let them know what happened and they were really nice(and clearly unaware of what had happened). They made me the same sandwich with no questions asked. I wanted a refund but appreciated the sandwich as a nice gesture and clear picture of this places great customer service. I’ll probably be back before my next amtrak and will still be sure to double check the bag before I board ;)

I just got a chicken salad sandwich from here. There is hardly any chicken in this sandwich. I go here often, not anymore. They are painfully inconsistent. Just terrible.

Man I love getting a real deli sandwich before I get on my train, but the lady who rings you up is possibly the rudest person in NYC. Have had three bad experiences with her and can’t do it any more. Zaros, here I come!

Pro: Very good deli sandwiches. All meats are high quality Boars Head brand. Sandwiches are freshly sliced and prepared in front of you. My favorite sandwich is their roast beef, swiss, lettuce, tomato with horseradish sauce on a sun dried tomato wrap. Get that with some macaroni salad and Snyders Jalapeño pretzels and an iced tea and you’ve got a great lunch! Cons: A little pricey. To spend $ 14.00 for a sandwich, pretzels a drink and a small mac salad is just a tad high. Cashiers get a litte flustered when there are more than 3 people waiting on line. In all: I like this place. Good food great sandwiches and salads. Check it out!

Just what I wanted pre hurried departure out of NYC. Super friendly and fast service and delicious bagel sandwiches. Cheap, too!

The only clean place with good food in Penn. Awesome when you’re running to catch a train. And their multigrain gluten free bread is AMAZING!

Amazing bacon edge and cheese sandwiches. My go-to at Penn Station when I don’t have a lot of time. They are fast and pleasant to interact with. The small coffee is only 10 oz, part of a trend in the coffee world that I do not like. Dunkin Donuts does the same. And their default is to load it up with sugar. But they were responsive when I asked for them to dump a bit of it out and add more coffee.

Excellent sandwiches. I came in wanting to pick something up before taking a train, and while I was undecided, the clerks were kind in being helpful. And they were rather fast in getting everything together. The food tasted good too. I came back a second time, and there wasn’t a false note. From ordering to paying, to bagging, not a detail missed. I highly recommend this place.

Came here this morning before getting on an amtrak train. I ordered 2 eggs over medium with wheat toast, came with a small coffee for $ 3! Can’t get any better pricing. The eggs were great, cooked perfectly! The people that work there are very friendly and peppy. Did not wait long. I gave 4 stars because the coffee was ehh.

Yep — this is a great spot to grab a sandwich and drink before boarding your train to «wherever». I personally am a fan of the Chicken Salad with BLT on whole grain, but the selection is fantastic. My co-worker grabbed prosciutto and arugula on a baguette which looked yummy, Fantastic selection of drinks and chips. Fresh tasting — fast and was better than the club car food. Check it out! PS great staff too — friendly and helpful!

I work in 2 Penn Plaza and it’s really the best breakfast place within walking distance. The egg sandwiches are awesome! Plus, if you get an egg sandwich before 10am, you get a free hot coffee(which tastes like deli coffee should taste). Five stars for it’s breakfast food — it’s reasonably priced and food quality is great.

Small very unassuming deli near the AMTRAK in Penn Station. Went for breakfast and it had a decent size line but moved VERY fast. You order, head to the register, and by the time you pay you already have your meal ready. They have a small menu for ideas but most people just come up with their own orders/fillings/combos. BREAKFAST: I got a breakfast wrap with 3 eggs, pepper jack cheese, sausage, bacon — came out to $ 6.55. Bacon was definitely better than most other places, thicker slices. Sausage was pretty generic, eggs were cooked well. The tortilla was your basic flour type. SUBS: Went again and got an italian hero — came out to almost $ 10 after tax The size was good — your regular 10ish inch sub size. Bread was fresh and there was a decent amount of meat and cheese on it, stacked about ¼ inches high. Was it the best hero ever? no, but it was pretty good if you’re into Italian subs. Service is top notch All credit cards accepted with NO minimum.

I would go as far as to say this is the best deli in NYC. The selection is amazing, it’s so clean and the employees are super friendly. Rob, who works the night shift is phenomenal! He makes the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten, a true sandwich God! Next time you’re hungry around penn station, go to this deli and see for yourself. You’ll be blown away!

Working adjacent to Penn Station — finding reasonably priced food that is quick, delicious, and won’t kill you is more of a challenge than it should be. Actually, when running late to catch your Amtrak /NJ Transit /LIRR train, same is true. So I followed fellow Unilocal reviewer’s recommendations and now count myself lucky to call Don Pepi my «go-to» regular deli when I’m at work. I work a super long shift each weekend so I pick up a bunch of food and drinks each morning and I’m always thankful. Besides that the folks working are so nice, remember my orders, package it up beautifully(the cashier is the BEST!), and make it a great experience. This is a well-managed place: They know everyone is in a hurry and hustle to get you your food asap. What’s great: — large iced coffee with milk and sugar OMG yes!!! deli coffee so good! — egg platter: scrambled eggs with potatoes and toast(you can get bacon, etc. too) — egg platter: ham and cheese omelette with potatoes and toast — egg and cheese on a roll, etc. — #15 Italian is AMAZING but is a gut buster — FYI they slice the meat fresh for each order!!! — the«American» version of the #15 — might be the #9 — less hardcore than #15 still great — anything on a hero is great — bagels with veg cream cheese and tomatoes — bagels with lox and cream cheese — large pasta salad(i pick off the vegetables usually) — grilled vegetables(it’s deli-made but if you need something green) It’s a Boar’s Head deli — so they have the full array of meats and cheeses so it’s really solid. I’ve been meaning to try the dill havarti(not sure if they’d do a grilled cheese but suspect they would). They have croissants and muffins and stuff too — pretty yummy. They also have Tropicana juices, MASH, Aloe drink, coconut water, and the usual(Pepsi-contracted?) drinks that are available in Penn Station. Salads are a little packaged for me – there are a lot of chopped salads places around(in Penn Station and outside) so this is not really the place for that. But if you are taking the train and it looks good to you, i’m sure it’s fine. If you need any confirmation, the Amtrak /transit /police & security folks eat here. And just now I saw them making like 40 sandwiches for a huge to go order — and they still got me my order super fast. I’ve been eating here for about 6 months every week and have had a great experience every time. Tip — if you aren’t getting coffee, there’s a second cashier that can ring you up on the right hand side. Especially if you’re in a hurry it’s a good choice. Highly recommended!

Was not very hopeful about finding decent food in Penn Station but this place was pretty good. Obviously, convenience was the best part about this place, especially if you’re waiting for your train and hungry, but the staff was polite and the sandwich was good. I had the Italian sub, one of the specials, and everything tasted fresh. I’m a big bread person when it comes to sandwiches and the bread was even above average. I would definitely come here again if I was stuck in Penn Station.

Don Pepi’s really deserves 5 stars — not because it’s the best deli ever, but because it really truly is the best option in Penn Station. Don Pepi’s deli is the ONLY place in Penn Station where you can get a normal sandwich made to order. Shocking, isn’t it? Above ground, I think of the deli sandwich as being an essential part of NYC but go down an escalator or two and all bets are off. I got turkey and cheese on rye and a cup of tea. It cost around $ 9 but given the location that’s a bargain. And it hadn’t been sitting around all morning or contain microwaved ingredients/other gross stuff I don’t want to eat. First stop for food whenever I’m in Penn Station from now on.

Every day there is a sandwich special and it’s something basic like turkey and cheddar or muenster or tuna(not turkey and tuna, just tuna by itself, duh!). The special sandwich costs $ 7 and it comes with any kind of chips they sell or an 8 ounce container of potato salad, macaroni salad or cole slaw. This is why you go to Don Pepi: for that deal. The sandwiches are nothing special but in the area there are plenty of much crappier $ 7 sandwiches to be had. And those don’t come with chips or a side. Oh and they do take credit cards now.

Penn Station is mostly a barren wasteland of crappy food. But, if you are there in the morning and need something go for the breakfast sandwiches here. They are awesome and aren’t microwaved garbage like at Dunkin Donuts(yes, i love them anyway). The subs are hit or miss. The Italian is a winner. The prosciutto and mozzarella, is awful. The guys are always nice and the service is quick, even when there is a line. I’ll continue grabbing these for a train ahead of all the other stuff at penn st.
