I pass by David Z on my way to work, and I decided to check it out on a whim one morning. They a great selection of modern styles, and the prices were reasonable. Ultimately I ended up getting a pair of boots that I was very happy about. But of course, every bad star rating has to have a bad ending. Well, after just two months of wear, the shoes ripped on the inside lining. It wouldn’t have been a big deal except that the lining would catch my foot as I tried to take the shoe off, making things difficult. So I took the shoes back to David Z, knowing full well that I was out of the return period. I didn’t want a return, I really just wanted to exchange my left shoe given that it was clearly defective. When I walked in with my David Z bag, I was directed to Diallo. I began to explain that my shoe was clearly defective, and I wanted it replaced. He was immediately defensive, but after I calmed him down he offered to put me in touch with the manufacturer(but refused to take any action of his own). Ultimately, he never put me in touch with the manufacturer, even after multiple attempts to contact him, and even after he told me on several different occasions he would help me out. I did contact the manufacturer on my own. Of course, they told me the easiest thing to do would be to return it to David Z. I am bothered by this incident because I’m sure it would have been easy for David Z to return it. It probably would have taken 10 minutes, and made a customer very happy. There are a lot of shoe sellers with really great customer service, and I think I will choose one of those sellers next time.

Shout out to the manager, Abdul. I really liked a new pair of shoes on display, but the did not have my size. Of course they offered to order them for me, but I was heading out of town for vacation, plus I wanted instant gratification. Abdul called the David Z in Soho and asked them to hold a pair of the shoes I wanted in two sizes so that I could try them both to see which ones fit. I headed downtown and the other store was waiting on me. Tried both pairs, picked the ones that fit and left happy. I will most likely start my next search for shoes at David Z.

A great but busy shoe store. Surprisingly affordable for a Fifth Avenue storefront. I was able to find some name brand desert boots for cheaper than online. Hood, quick service.
