This is a Greenwich Village institution. The drinks are alright in quality. They’re not cheap but also not expensive. The décor is quirky and eclectic but in a good way. I feel like a baby in a crib wanting to reach all those rainbows hanging. The place is also very small so it’s inevitable to bump into people you know or be talked to so if you’re not feeling chatty, don’t hang out here. It’s perfect for social butterflies though. The music could be much better. There’s a jukebox so it’s a hit/miss I guess.

Every time I return to NYC, I return to cubbyhole. Why? Because it puts my heart back together if its broken. Never never had a bad experience there, always a fun dancing night.

This is a «straight friendly bar» so if you are seeking a space that isn’t open to all you should go elsewhere like I did. It’s unfortunate that a bar that used to provide a safe space for lesbians accepts so many straight people as if they don’t have options on places to go. The drinks are okay, the space is always filled and overall the experience is not fun. Go to an exclusively lesbian bar if your seeking a safer environment.

Entitled yuppy lesbian crowd, especially on Weekend, if you drive by this place keep going! If you fancy a gay bar then go to an actual gay bar. These lesbians are rude and very rich and stuck up.

This place is honestly great. I came here to meet a friend who heard about it and we are so glad we checked it out. The Happy Hour specials are fabulous. Yes, it IS a lesbian bar– but you don’t feel out of place. Everything felt relaxed and nobody was aggressive or made you feel uncomfortable. They even gave out free pizza at one point. It did get pretty busy and crowded at one point though, but what can you expect in a tiny bar in the city? When you step into this bar– you feel like you’re in another world. The décor is really awesome, too.

I have been to Cubbyhole a few times and have always had a lot of fun. Most recently, I brought two Brazilian friends visiting NYC/the US for the first time. I warned them that the bar might not be that happening, as it was really early– 5pm or so – on a Saturday. I was shocked to find a PACKED bar when we got there. They had a GREAT time, which I considered high praise, as they both come from cities with huge gay nightlife scenes. One of them had such a good time, he opted to stay there by himself instead of joining us for dinner :) The décor is on point, the drinks are affordable, the crowd is diverse, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting.

That was so bullshit. Me and my friends, who happened to be people of color, walked into the bathroom to pee. This rude bartender then opened the door… in the middle of me using the restroom… and told us we had to leave. We explained how we were all just using the restroom and he said that he didn’t care and that we «shouldn’t have been doing crack in the bathroom». That is the worst case of ignorant racial profiling I have ever experienced. Do not go here if you happen to appreciate the melanin in your skin because they will quickly remind you of the inequality you deal with on a regular basis. Very disappointed.

I love this bar! Crawling with hot queer women. The drinks are super cheap(4 $ mixed drinks on Mon/Wed/Thurs, 3 $ beers, 2 $ margaritas on Tues). The vibe is super relaxed and fun. Very small space so not somewhere to bring a huge crowd, but definitely somewhere to start or end the night with some cheap drinks and flirtation.

From the name you’d think this is a gay(male-to-male) bar. It’s a predominately Lesbian bar. I respect that a lot because the truth is, I don’t think there are that many Lesbian bars out there, and I’ve never been to a gay bar with a good mix of lesbian women/gay men(let me know if there’s one!). The place has nice décor. But every time I’ve been here, it’s been very packed. Terrible seating. Everyone’s on top of one another. Also, cash bar. why? How much money are these guys making that they’re too lazy to invest in having a credit card option. seriously!

Cubbyhole was so packed(on Saturday night), there was actually a line. There’s no standing room, let alone room to move. It was so claustrophobic inside, I had to leave. The security outside was nice though.

Please get with the 21st century. WHY are you cash only? WHY do I have to go down the block to get more cash or use your ATM? It is indeed a nice, friendly gay bar. But just can’t give any more stars for that one. It’s ruined a good night on many an occasion. On the other hand, I’ve gone with friends and had an awesome time just chillen’ at a gay bar. One of the only places where you’ll find a nice mix of men and women enjoying a boozy bevvie. Good(fantastically gay) music.

This place is so tiny hence the name ‘cubbyhole’. I have no problem going on a day where I know it won’t be packed but if you go on a Tuesday(2 $ margaritas) or anytime on the weekend you go in and it’s like you’re suffocating. Or at least that’s how I feel. There’s a jukebox that plays anything you want which is pretty cool. But other than that just looks like a unicorn threw up ornaments and lights and rainbows everywhere.

Stopped in with a pal for a quick drink and had a great time. It’s a crowded space, but the staff is great and the patrons are so welcoming — straight or otherwise!

Came here with some girls for a quick drink & I was only there for a few minutes but the ambience was just right. What stood out to me the most was the décor that hung from the ceiling, very autumny. Be advised: this place accepts cash only.

Let me tell you, my first«L Word» experience at the oldest lesbian bar in town was a blast. My wife and I came here for a friend’s birthday gathering. Their located right at the corner of 12th Street & West 4th in Manhattan. It’s like a decorated closet if you ask me. As you walk in, there’s a bunch of ornaments hanging from the ceiling and very little space. They have two bathrooms and an updated jukebox with the latest music. I think they have a TV or two as well. Since we were not situated in the back or in a corner area, became a little frustrating because people passing through our group were not saying excuse/pardon me. In the meantime, everyone knows that drinking and rude people don’t mix well at all. Besides that, the«L Words» were making out all over the place. Outside, in the bathrooms… were ever they wanted to. All I can say, it was a great night. Oh, the drink prices were okay… thought they could have been better during Happy Hour! The service was good.

Super small place and it looks like a leprechaun just vomited rainbows and sparkles and everything gay. There is a plethora of things hanging from the ceiling but it puts you in such a happy mood. My wife and I met some friends here during pride weekend and it was full. You could hardly move. We got seats by the bar(lucky!) but the bartender had to constantly slide a big box of trash in front of us every time he needed to throw the trash. Apparently, it’s a lesbian bar but there were lots of gay boys as well. I love a mix of people. My wife absolutely loved this bar and the drinks were super reasonably priced, not like DC. The bartenders did an amazing job keeping up with everyone. I was impressed that we didn’t have to wait a long time to order and get our drinks. AND there were only two bartenders for the bar. Pretty awesome. Would’ve loved to spend more time here but we will definitely be back.

Music is great, drinks a bit overpriced which I don’t like. Bartenders aren’t as friendly as I would assume they would be in such a colorful, rainbow induced bar? Environment is chill and very crowded, but in a good way. You’re bound to meet someone and start conversing with them.

I am Not About tightly-packed enclosed spaces. They are actually probably my least favorite thing. The Cubbyhole is always packed at night, but it’s worth braving the crowds and the heat because you will always leave with a good story. While I honestly wish the space was more lesbian/queer exclusive – especially given that it’s one of only four lesbian bars in all of New York City – the straight cis people take up room but don’t harsh the vibes. It is definitely a safe, comfortable place for everyone. Special shout out to the Friday night bouncer for throwing my friends and I $ 20 to help a shwasted Australian woman get back to her hotel safely!

I am between 3 and four stars. I have been here 3 times since New years and it would be way more if it weren’t for external reasons. I like it here. PROS:The environment is chill. I can’t help but to look around amongst the crowd and of course at the ceiling. The first night I came in guess who I saw. Big Boo from Orange is the New Black! I love that she was hanging around in this bar and though people noticed her, no one was crazy trying to get her attention because she was with a friend. Another time I was here, a beautiful possibly drag(to each his own!) woman came in and read my fortune. It was pretty entertaining. Oh and on Tuesdays come for their specials! CONS: So small and the crowd is usually in groups that seem clingy
