Clos is on a mission to make us taste the best wines available and it does it in style. Any wine you order was carefully selected by the owner Mine and her staff. The u shaped bar is a great idea to socialize with others and the cured meat and cheeses are very tasty indeed. Clos is like a place you need to adventure in to, to discover. With over 60 selections of wines and beer there will be no boring moments in that discovery…

Not a bad place if you want something quiet that serves wine. Came here with a friend and it was moderately busy with a few groups going in and out over a 2 hour period. The waiter was accommodating and came by to service us quite frequently.

I’ve been here a couple times. There is a decent selection of wines, but they didn’t have 3 or 4 of the wines listed on the menu when we went last week. The price point is good — around $ 12 – 18 per glass depending on what you select. The food is just your standard munchies to go with wine — cheese, meats, olives, hummus, etc. The hummus wasn’t very good but the other items were ok. We thought it was a pricey for the serving size. The owner works the bar. She is friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. Overall, it’s worth checking out if you’re in the neighborhood and want a decent glass of wine.

My wife and I were looking to enjoy a night of delightful wine and cheese… we got to Clos around 7:30 and ordered a platter of cheese and meats as well as a bottle of their house red wine. The some of the cheese and meat seemed old and stale. We were the only ones in the place other than the eclectic guitarist playing in the corner… all night until 9:30… Honestly the worst part was we had a certificate and they would not accept it. We didn’t know at the time but the owners told the bartender not to accept our certificate. Otherwise wise would not have spent or time there at all… Very bad decision… That left a horrible impression on us and we suggest you find another great place the area to enjoy your evening.

Went to Clos on a winter Friday, around 10:30pm. The bar is on a strange stretch of Kenmare so we luckily were able to squeeze in. Once inside, we were greeted by a very odd assortment of regulars. The U shaped bar has maybe twenty seats and 15 of them were filled with men. As me and my fellow girlfriend settled in, several older men greeted us. After maybe five minutes, the female bartender came over and told us that a gentleman would like to buy us a round. She asked what we liked, poured a taste and then TOOKTHEMENU from us. We had one more round of the acceptable red when a group of the regulars began digging into Ferrero Roche like a bunch of lonely housewives. Smeared with chocolate and clinking glasses, they insisted that my empty glass not stay that way. So, they brought me a glass of the muscato they were drinking. By this time it is 1am. The bar has emptied out to my and my friend, and the man who bought us a drink. The music goes off and that man starts emptying the trash! Our bill is then presented and it becomes clear that NONE of our drinks were paid for and that wine that we had picked, without seeing the menu, was $ 15/glass. We pushed our way into the polar vortex $ 60 dollars poorer and a whole lot more irritated. TOTALCON. I am happy to pay for my drinks! I am happy to pay for nice wine. I am NOT happy to have a bartender tell us a round was paid for and then take the menu from us.

This place is a disaster. I live nearby and want to be an advocate for all the shops and development on Kenmare. In short, clueless«sommelier» poured the wrong glass, 2 reds were served ice cold(no acknowledgment as we tried to warm our glasses for 20 minutes), somm requested I not pay with Amex as it’s too hard for them to get their money, and the complimentary spicy popcorn was an awful match with the red wines(nice gesture though, I suppose). I always felt kind of bad when I walked by and it was empty. Now looking forward to the next tenant.

Beautiful bar. Reminded me of a tasting room at a vineyard in California. Unfortunately, that’s the most positive thing I can say about the place. The woman running the bar seemed rather aloof. She didn’t seem to know much about the wine or at least didn’t feel like talking about it. For such a small place it was also surprisingly hard to get her attention. When we finally were able to relay our selections to her, it took another 10 minutes or so for us to receive anything, even though the wines themselves were immediately next to us. The bartender’s confusion continued as she managed to select and pour the wrong glass of wine more than once. The wine itself was delivered rather unceremoniously and the bartender quickly turned her back and went back to randomly rearranging things around the bar. They didn’t even use different glasses for red and white. Some of this could have been forgiven if we had actually enjoyed the wine. The three of us had each selected a different type, and all were disappointed. Mine was actually hard to drink. After another 10 minutes of waiting for her to figure out how to run credit cards, we left with our wine only half finished. There are much better options for wine lovers.

Vibe: Outer borough locals in Little Italy. But the wine list is way above that level — all single vineyards. Food is minimal. Live music. But BEWARE: the fact that the sign reads«Happy Hour RIGHTNOW» means nothing. It’s just to get you in the door and is kept outside all night. There probably is no discount. ASK. Most troubling is the neither the owner nor the staff knows much of anything about wine. At least not while I was there. They must have hired an outside person to create the wine list. But they can’t discuss it with you in any meaningful way and even the owner doesn’t have any apparent passion for wine. Odd. So you’re OK here is you know nothing at all about wine and don’t care — and are there for the actual happy hour — cuz it ain’t cheap. Or if you know a ton about wine and do not expect any assistance with choosing or pairing — and are there for the actual happy hour. Not that there is anything much to pair it with. The so-called«tapas» menu is nothing to talk about. I ordered nova with aioli on artisanal bread. I basically got a Wonderbread sandwich with mayo and one thin slice of salmon in the middle. At least it was cut on the diagonal. Just like Mom’s! Try Ten Bells or Terroir instead.

Disappointed. Came in here for happy hour. Initially the hostess was charming and helpful. We ordered a glass at 6:50 pm, to ensure that we got the 50% happy hour rate, however she took a long time talking to us and then came up with the story that as it was 7:05pm she could not give us the happy hour rate!!! Would not come here again.

The service started out nicely, but a problem happened with the credit card machine. After that happened, the service was nowhere to be seen. The two people working that evening paid no attention to the guests and only on the machine. If there is a problem that might impact guests, the staff should acknowledge the guests first. It took about 30 minutes to finally get the bill.

I have known the owner of CLOS for many years. The other reviewers are correct. Mine knows her wines. She was once in the art business and knows art as well. Her choice of wines may be expensive to many, but, if you realize the quality of the wines and the ‘hard to find varieties’ CLOS carries, price would not be an issue. If you are anywhere near Chinatown, CLOS is the place to be.

CLOS is a very nice– but pricey– addition to the neighborhood. Serving wines by the taste(2 oz) and glass(5 oz) only, they have an impressive list that covers many regions of the world. My girlfriend and I started our wine Wednesday evening here but after skimming the menu we quickly realized we would only be staying for one drink, as the prices *begin* at $ 16 per glass and go upwards(some as high as $ 50 per glass.) We also met the owner who was a bit preoccupied with setting up, but nevertheless was welcoming and forthcoming about the wines, space itself, and the art featured. I would love to return and try more of their wines, but with my budget it will only be in the company of my parents or a hot date!
