I found a rock in my kung pao. Fortunately, I felt it in my mouth before biting down hard and chipping a tooth. Unfortunately, the restaurant only was willing to refund half our order b/c my gf and I had eaten some of the food. The owner actually had the poor delivery guy call the restaurant and go through every dish to make sure it was taken back. Utterly and shockingly poor customer service. So here’s my review: Avoid this place. The food isn’t good — I only ordered b/c of the fast delivery. And that’s just not worth a $ 2500 trip to the dentist.

I just ordered for take out some chicken and snow peas with white rice. I didn’t know it came with a half pound of water chestnuts mixed in. Very disappointed. The flavor was lackluster, the chicken waa scant and the snow peas were limp and tasteless. What’s even more infuriating is this dish cost me $ 11. Totally not worth it. I won’t be going there again.

The good: it was delivered in 15 mins. That’s ridiculously fast. The bad: it was apparently too fast, because the food was thrown together and not that good. It was flavorless and just not what I expected.(I ordered the basil fried rice and veggie steamed dumplings.)

«The Spice Is Right» My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. This is not your standard, cheap, generic, Chinese Food. It can be a little pricey but the food has never disappointed and the delivery is quick! You must, must, MUST try the Mint Fried Rice. Just enough of a spicy kick balanced with a hint of mint and plenty of chicken. The portion is HUGE and will provide you with leftovers for lunch the next day(or a cold midnight snack!) Probably the best Egg Rolls we have both ever eaten. They are perfect! Fresh tasting, not oily, and actually contain ingredients you can easily identify.(none of those suspicious pork strands) The Egg Drop Wonton Soup is like none other. The freshest wontons I have ever had and they add corn to the broth for a delicious flavor combination. But wait… there’s more! Crab Rangoon like you would have never imagined. These beautiful little origami like starfish shapes are serious bites of heaven. Also, the Boneless Spare Ribs are tasty and the beef and broccoli is a an easy go-to. They offer other cuisines like Japanese but I have yet to venture into these. China Spice closes at a fairly reasonable time, so don’t procrastinate.

I have been ordering take-outs from China Spice since I moved to UES. The food is definitely above average. They stand out from the rest of the american chinese food and charge within a reasonable price. We also get spring rolls or edamame on the house every time. One more thing worth-mentioning is their rice always comes fresh with the perfect hardness, of which is often ignored at other restaurants.

I was working late and looking to order some 10pm take out on Seamless and China Spice had good reviews; terrible choice. I purposefully chose a restaurant that would be open past 11pm to avoid the misery that late night ordering can bring and give them enough time to prep my food. I ordered the House Special Wonton Soup– this consisted of three half golf ball sized pieces in chicken broth– with floating celery and cherry tomatoes(?) at $ 3.50(for comparison’s sake, my local Chinese spot has a large soup for the same price with 9 better tasting wontons– go Teng Dragon, sorry you were closed) In short, I spent over $ 1 per piece on 3 tiny wontons in a weird broth… beyond disappointing. I also ordered a $ 2 Perrier; they sent me a 12 oz Canada Dry can instead; if I wanted to pay less for the CD can I would have, and that’s a scam up-charge. I was hoping I’d at least be happy with my mochi ice cream; nope. It was two tiny individually wrapped mochi(they probably buy 50 piece costco bags of the stuff for $ 15) that I was charged $ 3, again over a dollar piece. Terrible. That’s a complete rip off, right? Well, it gets 1000 times worse; the delivery guy shows up after 50 minutes(fine, it’s late at night, I get it) he ‘doesn’t have a pen,’ I go inside and sign, bring it back to him, and he proceeds to try to immediately try to KISSMYHAND! Luckily my reflexes caught quick enough. and he apologized, startled, because of my dismay and disgust. Seriously, seriously, WTF. I’m still hungry and COMPLETELY sketched out by the extreme creepiness of the delivery guy– that’s not safe or OK. This was worse than bad, way worse.

Average food with terrible management. Had to argue with them at length last week after delivery man did not show for over 2 hours.

I’ve ordered from here via seamless web a few times in the past few months and I’ve always gotten consistently good Chinese food. I haven’t explored the neighborhood too much for Chinese food, it’s not really a preferred cuisine and I feel a lot of times the average priced Chinese food restaurants have mediocre quality food, with too much sauce, too much salt, fatty meat pieces, etc, but China Spice always exceeds my expectations and provides consistently good quality food with reasonable wait times(I’m in the East 70’s and it’s usually about 35 – 45 min, as said on seamless.) I usually get one of the Chinese food dinner boxes, it really is enough food for two meals!

Summary: Super fast Chinese delivery in the UES providing some very yummy Chinese. Amazing replacement for the defunct Asian Station! The Food: Ordered delivery from these guys the other night for my nephews from out of town. I have to say that this about the freshest Asian fare I’ve had delivered since the closing of Asian Station. Every single dish was very well prepared and super tasty. We ordered some soups(wonton, egg drop) which were delicious with lots of flavor. It was about the best egg drop soup I’ve had. We also got a couple rolls of sushi which were very fresh(big plus when concerning raw fish). The sesame chicken dinner box was the best I’ve had in a long while. They actually put in some vegetables along with the chicken which was a great touch. The portions were massive for what I’m used to with UES delivery, another big plus. The Service: Ordered at 5:50pm and had hot food at my doorstep at 6:18. I’ve never had faster delivery! Splendid! Recommendations/Notes: I’ll definitely try to make a visit to see the physical location, but this is my new go-to spot for some last minute seamless ordering. Definitely give the soups a try, especially the egg drop soup. Good stuff!

The Egg Rolls are the closest to an Australian«CHIKOROLL» I’ve had here — that’s a good thing! Shumai are standard but fine. Good late night snacks! Quick delivery.

since the death of Szechuan Cottage, I’ve tried to avoid this place. but all this time, I’ve been irrational. China Spice NYC has more options now, including dishes from Chinese, Japanese, and Thai cuisines. the lunch specials are phenomenal – and well-priced, even though the dinner prices are a bit high. but hey, they’re trying to make it in this neighborhood. I ordered the 3 roll sushi lunch special, and it was some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Check out this place; it might pleasantly surprise you.

Sushi rice taste like Carolina rice. Spicy tuna not spicy. Overall presentation and taste were below the standards I use to but I guess for lunch it’s acceptable.

This is how«fusion» isn’t. Perhaps the most flavorless Spring Rolls from the backside of winter, and chicken with the life rung from its dry lifeless body. Can’t understand the constant delivery business.

I’ve never set eyes on the actual restaurant, but have ordered delivery a couple of times. It took about 45⁄50 minutes, but it was worth the wait. It’s exactly what you want out of a delivery meal — tasty, consistent, and bang for the buck. I think the dinner bento boxes are where it’s at. They’re easily 2 meals worth of food, and you can satisfy both your sushi and chinese food cravings at the same time. For example, combination can include hot and sour soup, a california roll, shumai, spring rolls, and a chinese entrée.

Delivery is always within 45 or less. Sometimes its crazy fast. But heres what its all about… Three roll lunch special for 12 Now everyone does this but two things set chinaspice apart from the rest 1. 8 peices per roll. More food for your Money 2. Miso soup AND two springrolls. My go to lunch sushi I just cant justify spending money on a 6 peice roll anymore… Highly recommend!

The food here is amazing. It’s more expensive than the standard Chinese. But the unusual combinations available here are excellent. The wait staff is terribly hard working. There was only 1 waiter for the whole place and he didn’t stop all night. luckily for him, the place wasn’t crowded. It never seems to be crowded. I’m guessing this is for two reasons. One is the prices. They are high. Not over priced. But. not cheap. The other reason has to be the unbelievably rude management. I’m assuming the woman who is behind the register is management. If not, she should be shifted as soon as possible as she’s officially lost me as a customer. I’ve stopped by a few times. I really love he food. But she’s just so awful. To customers as well as to the poor haggard waiter. I recently purchased a coupon to see if I didn’t mind her so much given a price break. But no. She’s awful.

I thinkeverything here tastes really fresh, RARE for a chinese place. First time I’ve had chinese and didnt feel over-stuffed after. This place has a different menu than most chinese places but I liked it. Dumplings were amazing, however, wonton soup tastes like water. Needless to say, i order from them a few times a week =/ They let me go when I was a dollar short once! Thought that was really nice.

Szechuan Cottage RIP — you truly were the best on York. China Spice does NOT offer the same great specials, portions as it’s predecessor(especially lunch portions) and according to the menu aspires to offer more than the run of the mill Chinese. That being said the new soups on the menu are amazing — the beef chowder is a must try, other dishes tried so far have had better meat quality but standard sauces. Looking forward to tring a few more items, def going back for more soup.
