I love this place! Every chance I’m in the area i always stop by for lunch. Yes it is like a mediterrean subway, but the quality is not comparable. I always go with the platter with hummus, chicken, rice/lettuce and toppings. It is always consistent and yummy. Served with warm pita and sauce on the side if you ask(hot sauce, white sauce.) the hummus is sooo good. The manager is always realllly nice and there to make sure everything is okay. I did try the chickpea in pen station and got the same thing. Sorry to say it was horrible. Not sure if this location is the only good one. In penn i do pick up breakfast from there, oatmeal or a pita sandwich with hardboiled egggs, hummus and some veggies which is good.

Yum– I have a newfound appreciation for baked falafel! I’m glad I didn’t read the Unilocal reviews for Chickpea before going here because if I had I might have been more skeptical. I have wanted to try this place since moving in across the street a few months ago and yesterday I finally decided to head in. The place was empty which seemed like a bad sign, but it might’ve just been that people were still coming home from work(it was a busy Wednesday). I decided to order the falafel platter with baba ganoush and hummus. The platter came with rice, 6 baked falafel, hummus(different flavors to choose from!), up to(4?) toppings, and hot whole wheat pita. I added feta for extra because, well, it’s feta. The platter also came with a free drink– either a bottle of water or a can of soda(I got a water). I paid under $ 10 for all of this, which, in the city, is a friggen’ bargain. I brought my meal to Chelsea Pier to eat while I watched an outdoor movie(which I also recommend doing, btw), and it was delicious! The falafel was filling and honestly, I thought it was better than fried falafel, contrary to what everyone else is saying. Even the hummus and baba were above average, which is hard to do. Combined with the tahini sauce, rice, and feta, the falafel was incredible and filled me right up. I even had 3 falafel leftover after I was done that I still haven’t eaten. Check this place out for a quick, cheap, and healthy meal!

Okay… So I’ve discovered baked falafels just aren’t my thing. But you do feel good about your food choice after you eat there! Quiet, clean, staff was very helpful! I wouldn’t go out my way to go again, but if I passed by I’d stop in! Give it a try :)

A great alternative to places like Maoz and Hummus and Pita if you’re looking to avoid fried food. However, what you gain in health benefits, you will lose in taste. The falafel at Chickpea is just ok. Having it baked just isn’t the same as the fried goodness falafel provides. Aside from how it’s prepared, the taste is just ok. The sides are also nothing great in my opinion. The usual cabbage, peppers, onions, etc… If you’ve been to a place like Hummus & Pita, you’ll see what the gold standard is. However, with all this, it’s a great meal to grab on the go when you want to eat vegan or vegetarian. It taste good enough to enjoy, and with an order of baked fries, it’s filling and hits the spot. All in all you come to this place to avoid fried food. Other than that, Hummus & Pita is where you wanna be.

The falafel here is the worst I’ve ever had anywhere. Avoid it. I should have known better since the falafel looks as unappetizing and unappealing as it tastes. The hummus and chicken offerings were okay for a fast-food joint such as this place. If you order a hummus plate, you will be charged extra for each additional topping.

Not so good, going to keep this one brief. I just wanted something quick late night before going out. Staff was friendly and venue was clean and empty. Food not so good, I got the shwarafel(shwarma and falafel combo with pita and drink). Pita was a bit dry, shwarma and falafel were pretty meh and limited toppings included. Rice was a bit dry from what i remember as well. Many of the desirable«premium» topping were extra which I deferred at the time. Overall I probably wouldn’t come here again unless pressed for time and just wanted to fill up quickly before going out.

I love the concept — Chipolte meets middle east. And overall the idea seems to be working. I thought the food was average though– yes did taste a bit healthier, but it misses some of the authenticity that you can find at other places. It’s a great location — very convenient for a quick lunch or dinner. And I have a feeling if you can find something that you can really sink your teeth into(pun intended) then it could be a nice addition to the weekly lunch/dinner rotation. But if this is going to be a one off thing there are so many other options IMO. Service was good — I found them helpful and friendly. In the end it’s probably worth a try but I would not expect to be wowed.

Salad items are extremely fresh. Pita bread is fresh as well. Affordable considering the neighborhood. Store is clean. Decent selections of drinks at reasonable price. Excellent place to get a quick bite.

Looking for something cheap and healthy? I think this should be on the list if you’re in the area. At least that’s what they tell me with their baked falafel balls here. Now I admit, they definitely don’t have the same crispy texture like the fried version does, but it’s also a fraction of the calories if you’re into that thing. They have a wide variety of toppings to add into that pita of yours too, all for under $ 10.

Loved it! As a west-coaster visiting NYC for a week, we were barhopping all evening before we realized we need to eat something so we can drink more. Chickpea sounded healthy enough ;) but they had just closed for the night. The owner was gracious enough to let us in and serve us while they closed up for the night. The experience and food is best compared to a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. Food is healthy, fresh, has a lot of mix n match options and upgrades. The basic bowl doesn’t cover much, so be prepared for a few upgrades and extras to get that perfect meal. Of course, lots of veggie options. All in all, the food was tasty, wholesome and healthy. WIll eat here again when in NYC next time.

Chickpea is a decent option for an easy, relatively inexpensive meal. I typically go when I’m too lazy to walk more than a block from my apartment but I’m never craving it and wouldn’t go out of my way for it. I generally stick with just falafel — either as a sandwich or with the hummus plate. The former tends to be a little dry while the hummus plate is typically more satisfying. It’s a lot of food — definitely enough for two meals. Bottom line: a good enough option but, if you’re not in a rush, walk down to Mamouns on St. Marks for the best falafel of your life.

Came in here for lunch with a two friends. Awesome food, reasonably priced and amazing service. I paid for all 3 platters. David, the manager walked up to my table and gave me a «buy 6, get the 7th free» card. He stamped it as having 3 already bought. He could’ve just as easily counted it as 1 purchase. I’m definitely coming back!!!

Still hungry went to Chickpea that we passed on the way to BaoHaus. I got a few things: small cup of lentil soup — it was very creamy, not chunky like I’m used to. Tasted fine. Comes with one big pita — we couldn’t finish since we had Lunch1 already. Side of 3 baked falafels — why can’t more places make baked falafels? I loved them. Worth a stop for lunch. Didn’t see a public bathroom.

This place offers the typical baked falafel for a «healthier» option, but what really got me was the amazing selection of hummus. They have a ton of flavors like jalepeño, roasted red pepper, etc, that add a little something different to the typical falafel. I recommend trying it if you need a quick, cheap lunch and love falafel. They also have a ton of toppings!

What a disappointment! Clearly nobody here has ever had authentic Mediterranean food! Every turkish restaurant I’ve ever been Brooklyn has been better than this — even the not-so-good ones! Long story short, Chickpea is food for people that know nothing about chickpeas or how to make them tasty! I paid $ 6 for a «falafel & hummus» platter that included a pathetic amount of the BLANDEST hummus I’ve literally ever had — absolutely no garlic, or lemon juice, or olive oil, or tahini. No lettuce, tomato, or onion. Literally nothing except incredibly bland hummus, 4 falafel, and bread. It honestly tasted like someone just pureed chick peas in a blender and delivered them to me! Awful! And the falafel were«just ok». Was it worth the money? No. If the food was free, would I still pass it up? Yes. Big time yes. In.closing, to the chickpea lovers, I must ask! For twice the flavor and half a price, you can get Mamoun’s! So why the heck wouldn’t you!!!

Some of my vegetarian friends rave about Chickpea, so naturally I had an aversion to it ;-) but I finally got around to trying it. Not bad! Not bad at all! I like the signage that walks you through the ordering process as you move down the line. I’m not a big falafel guy so I went with chicken kebab on a wheat wrap. The chicken kebab ended up being a little dry but the flavor was good. The girl behind the counter asked if I’d like to try the hummus of the month on my wrap. Chipotle flavor. So glad I said yes. That was some gooood hummus. I took my first bite and said, «Whoa». It was bordering on homecooking levels of spice for me. Very nice. Also put some cucumber salad in my wrap. That was such a perfect pairing with the spice. The guy on the register looked like he might be the owner or manager. He was texting on his phone while ringing up customers. Not so great. But the girl preparing food was very friendly. Something to note. This place might not be ideal for a group or possibly even eating with someone else. The only seating is a counter along the window and a counter that runs down the middle of the restaurant. I was there during the lunch hour. Seemed like most people get take out or eat quickly and go.

Baked fafalel? I’m in! As a lover of fafafel, you could only imagine how excited I was. I ordered one of each fafalel and the size was decent. Now for the taste. dry to the extreme. I ended up drowning them in sauce and it became spicy breadcrumbs. I’m pretty sure there are good baked fafafels out there. This is not the one!
