The sushi quality isn’t great, but they have a happy hour deal where you can get sushi at lunch special prices during dinner time. In fact, Mondays have that same deal for up till midnight, so it’s awesome. DONOT get anything that says there’s crab in it if you don’t want artificial crabmeat.(The menu says the crabmeat is real, but that’s a total lie.) I would recommend getting the simplest roll possible, with just one fish, if you don’t want your roll to be stuffed full of fried breadcrumbs or sauce or mayo. This restaurant is BYOB and appears to be more of a delivery place, the sit-down area is kind of sad but more privacy, I guess!

Last time I did some hanging out in the East Village, it was in the late 80’s and I can assure you, it wasn’t sushi that I was looking for. Fast forward a million years, the streets under my feet speak of an uneven familiarly, it felt comfortable, I’ve laid footprints here before, no kidding, I could almost feel it. «Better to be 20 minutes early than 2 minutes late» rang in my ears, as I pondered the far rear, borderline backyard table location I was given. Sipping on my happy hour house saki, my cheeks became flush with rosy hues as I continued to continuously press the hot saki to my lips. After a quick thought session with the committee, I decided to move to the front of the restaurant for a view of East 6th, watch people flounce up and down the sidewalk. That idea was dashed immediately, reseating myself at the midway point once the delivery man thrust open the front door and the Arctic down bursts came slashing inside. Quickly ordering two rolls, I noticed Cherin is kinda big on crabmeat as a roll stuffer, so as the sushi rolls kept coming, not mango nor avocado could tone down that taste, it wouldn’t leave me alone. We consumed close to seven sushi rolls if basic arithmetic was serving me. The sheer quantity of food and drink consumed and the check that pleasantly surprised me, its hard to knock Cherin over minor matters.

I thought the sushi was ok but I’d love to go back in hopes of giving a 5 star review or updating this review. The sushi didn’t blow me away as tasty and fresh. Maybe because it was 1230am on a saturday night/sunday morning. It was ok. Miso soup was good and so was the seaweed. Prices were great. I think the food could be better.. ill go back. The place wasn’t packed and loud. But again this was right before closing on a saturday night. Service was good. Id love to go back and try the food again. …I did order a lot of different things. Its worth at least one trip

I really love this place. They have a great sushi dinner special that is inexpensive. The quality is really great too. The rolls are all flavorful, creative, delicious and beautifully presented. Only thing to know is that it takes a while for them to make everything because its fresh so be patient. Also, it’s BYOB, which is awesome!

Delicious sushi rolls for a delicious price! The deals are a great price in comparison to other sushi restaurants in the area. The staff are friendly and chatted with the regular customers. I can definitely see myself coming here again!

Awful experience! Despite making a reservation, we waited for 40 minutes to be seated. Once seated, we had to get our own menus and water. We asked waiter if we could order and we were rudely told: «we don’t have time.» One hour after arriving, we were told that we wouldn’t get our food for«a very long time.» We ended up leaving. Nobody apologized. Do not go!

I go to this place for the BYOB mainly, to start a night out in the EV. The sushis are good and the prices are fair. Extensive choice of rolls. The wait to get the food can be pretty long though…

One star for ONLYONEREASON: 1. BYOB(no corkage fee either) Other than that reason, please do not ever come here. This is one of the few BYOB restaurants in the city that’ll let you bring literally any type of liquor/wine that you want. They do not charge a corkage fee but they do require that each guest order a minimum of $ 20. That being said, the guests should be able to order anything off the menu that fulfills this $ 20 minimum requirement. However, according to the rude owner/manager(whoever he actually is), that is not how the rule works. Basically, you cannot order any dinner specials or anything off the menu, despite it fulfilling the minimum requirement, because it simply does not maximize the profit for the owner. First of all, that is ok if this rule is specified on the menu and not just told to us at the time when we want to place our order. Second of all, the owner/manager tried to make our party of 9 order the sushi platter because our party was«too large». I did not even see a party platter on the menu… so what is he going to do? Make up the price for that as well and try to rip us off? Gosh. Moreover, the owner/manager was rude as hell when he slammed down the plastic cups and wine bottle opener on our table upon seating us. Hello… this restaurant is BYOB — a policy which YOU put into place. If that is not the kind of business you want to provide, then change it. Don’t be rude to your diners. Unfortunately, the rudeness does not end there. As the waitress was taking our order, he came by and said 3X to her that we cannot order the dinner special. Like come on… we get it. Even the waitress was getting annoyed. Overall, this was a terrible experience and I will never be coming back here ever again. Not only is the sushi/sashimi low quality, but the service is what really tears this place down. Take your money elsewhere people.

I enjoyed the sushi but was perplexed as to why the server’s ponytail kept smacking me in the face whenever she placed a dish on the table. The sushi was REALLY on the meh side, but the prices are kinda perfect for meh.

BYOB + sushi(minimum spend is $ 15) = awesome. There is no corkage which is great, because I had to bring several bottles. Also, the spicy miso soup is amazing. I don’t know what they put in it to make it spicy, but you must order it. I just had the regular sushi set, which comes with a roll. They are very creative with rolls, the Helen Roll, Jenny Roll? etc… which means that this place isn’t that authentic but for $ 15, I’ll live with it. We were given plastic cups to drink our alcohol from, classy I know. They later came to offer us proper cups instead of the cheap plastic cups that you use at parties, but being classy people, we said the cheap plastic cups were perfect. Then boom boom boom… a drunk group of people enter the restaurant and decide that shouting is the way to go. I don’t know how they have conversations screaming at the top of their voices, which forced everyone else to start shouting as well. This is not a frat party, ok? There is a unisex toilet at the back, it was ok in terms of cleanliness.

I was brought here by one of my girls since it’s her and her man’s GO-TO sushi spot. I fell in love with each of the rolls I was trying. All of them were so tasty. The representation of the sushi was neat. and not to mention huge! They come on wooden boards. This place won’t disappoint. It’s nice and cozy. The quality of sushi is amazing for the price. I never knew it was BYOB — I’ll definitely be back soon.

Excellently priced sushi happy hour(4 rolls for 15.95?) in a cozy east village setting. Take advantage of the BYO policy, but expect lemons if you ask for lines. Service is so-so but price, BYO, and quality of sushi make up for it!

The Banana Eel roll was surprisingly good and at a reasonable price. However, the service was extremely slow and the staff was quite rude. A place that I would consider returning to if they were nicer and faster.

Usually i don’t eat sushi… After trying sushi in cherin sushi, now shushi is one of my favourite dish. Avocado salad and shrimp tempura roll is simply amazing. Very nice and friendly staff. 100% going back

A pretty solid BYOB place! Went to astor place wine and liquors before to pick up a bottle of white, and came with a friend who was visiting nyc from out of town. Docking a few stars because the service here was abysmal, we had to ask our waiter for the check THREE times! But the prices are cheap so that is a plus

The #1 draw of this place is that it’s BYOB. We came on a Saturday night and it was POPPIN! Even though it’s kind of small, there were lots of groups packed in to here. We were a fairly large group of around 15 and they gave us platters of sushi and appetizers for the table to share and it came out to around $ 25 per person — which is very very reasonable for the amount of sushi we got and the fairly good quality of food. All in all, great value, pretty good food, and BYOB is always a plus for me!

Great place to go for BYOB. The atmosphere is very lively and everyone is there on a mission to drink. For the price the sushi is ok, I ordered the sashimi and was underwhelmed. The rolls are ok and worth the price you pay. I was a little annoyed at the menu because they named every roll, so you’re digging through the menu to find the rolls you like. Service was below average. We really liked one piece of fish from the sashimi and when we asked our waiter if he could ask the sushi chef what type of fish it was, his response was, «you ate it already, I don’t know.» We were taken aback by this comment. Overall, the whole experience was ok. Honestly my company made the experience much better than it actually was. I would only recommend this place to someone on a mission to find a cheap BYOB place in nyc with ok food

Great spot for BYOB dinners! As always, all BYOB dinner spots on the weekend consist of loud and obnoxious patrons chugging alcohol faster than they can finish their food but place like this always guarantee a merry time. Especially since this spot takes reservations and is accommodating to large parties! Good thing there wasn’t any insane sake bombing when I went. The sushi here is decent, presented well, and nicely put together but they definitely skimp on the fish. We came on a Friday night as a party of 10 and the owner was super accommodating, even though he was really the only one working on the tables that night. Keep in mind, you do have to spend $ 17/person for BYOB. The sushi is super cheap yet good for the price and on top of that, they even offer early bird specials! Overall a good spot for getting rowdy with your friends on the weekends with food and drink within your budget.

It’s good for a BYOB sushi place and for the price but the sushi itself is subpar. If you are really looking for unique rolls and super fresh sushi I would say go around the corner to one of the many half price sushi places. They may not BYOB but the drinks are fairly cheap and the sushi is of better quality. These days we have been going to Sushi Park right on 2nd Abe.
