I am so incredibly saddened to see this place go. I had so many wonderful nights here after the bars. For less than $ 2 you could get an amazing vegetarian sandwich made to order. In a city where a closet sized room costs a grand, this was truly a deal of deals. The god deal among king deals. Sometimes I’d go to 2Bros and get a couple slices of pizza and make a pizzalafal. It was the delicious, beautiful food you could only crave when completely inebriated. You could also get a piece of fried chicken without having to wait in line which was always great for those grab and go situations. I would have gladly paid 50% more to see this place still open. The workers were so nice too. They’d pile your pita as high as you liked and give you more pickles to go if you so chose. RIP Cheeps. You were the best.

I am sad the place does seem to be gone. I was last here right before Memorial Day and they were still open for business then. I loved getting the Falafel sandwich for the cheap price here, it was $ 1.25 at one point then a few months ago went to $ 1.75. The Chicken Shwarma was good too at $ 3.50, alot of taste in that chicken. It was my source for good food late at night when I didn’t want White Castle burgers or milkshakes. I am confused on where to get Falafel sandwich for cheap now, haha. Oh well, I guess no more Cheeps for me, maybe you guys cut your own throat making the food prices here too cheap. The food was good, I never got sick from it and I ate here at least once a week at all hours of the day and night. They had french fries here too for $ 1.50. The pita was a good deal here, loaded the sandwich up with spicy carrots, onions, cole slaw, lettuce, beets and some other goodies. Hummus was an extra 50 cent on the sandwich. I agree with Richard D, I have passed by a few times recently and the door is still closed. 1 star for you guys closing but 4 stars for when you were in operation.

I think they might be out of business. I think the Cheep prices did them in, because the past few times I’ve gone by, the security door has been down. Sadness. I don’t know where to go to get a cheep food option other than $ 1 slice pizza.

Shame on you Cheep’s Pita Creation! You have faltered so! Where you used to be the undisputed king of falafel value, you have lost your title in light of your recent offering-modifications. No longer can I get a falafel sandwich the size of my face(okay… slightly smaller) for $ 1.25. Now you serve hockey puck sized pitas with scarcely any room for toppings and sauce for $ 1.75?!? A 40% increase in price for a product that, by my estimation, is 25% smaller? You had a niche in the market, with other significantly tastier falafel options right down St. Marks for only $ 3, quite a bit larger, more flavorful, and a name that suggests authenticity rather than the dollars in my bank account, I will be moving on. Farewell…

As far as late night food in the East Village/Union Square area goes, you’ll be hard pressed to find a place that better satisfies cravings than Cheeps. The Falafel Pitas are delicious, and the falafel is pressed and fried fresh for each sandwich. The result is a tasty combination that will rival most any Mediterranean restaurant. One of the most important parts of a pita sandwich is the hummus, and again Cheep’s delivers. The hummus is well balanced and pairs well with any of the salad bar options. The salad bar itself is fully stocked with a wide variety of toppings and salads and ensures your sandwich will never have to be the same twice. The best part about the Cheeps? All of that deliciousness only costs you 2 – 3 bucks. The service is fast and friendly, and you’ll be on your way to the next stop in your night in no time.

$ 1.25 Falafel Pita + Pommes Frites next door = good late night eats. The Falafel comes with your choice of pickled veg, salads, sauces, hummus(+$ 0.50), etc. The salad bar used to be self serve but now its behind a glass case and an employee tops off your falafel. Not as much fun since you can’t go nuts at the salad bar. The pita is OK. Slightly warm and a bit on the dryer side. The falafels are flavorful and have a nice consistency. The toppings are fresh for the most part. Some of the veggies looked bruised and a bit older. Employees are quick. Little seating available. More of a grab and go place. Overall, Cheep’s may not be the best out there but it’s cheap eats indeed.

There is only one reason to visit Cheep’s, and that is for the price. Sure, you can’t beat a $ 2.00 Falafel sandwich. But when you eat it, ugh. You will know why it’s $ 2.00. All I can say is that the rice was bland, uncooked veggies did nothing for me, and there was no amount of toppings or dressings to make it okay. Sorry, Cheep’s. Will not be returning until my stomach stops hurting.

After having a large dinner in the East Village, my friend and I were walking home when Cheep’s $ 1.25 Falafel Sandwich caught my eye. $ 1.25 for a falafel sandwich? Are you kidding me? I quickly came in and as soon as I was ordering, at least 10 people joined me in line. I only waited a few minutes for my sandwich and I’ve got to say, it was money well spent. This place is no thrills or frills. Just great cheap falafel pita($ 1.25) and shawarma($ 3). Great for a quick snack or after a long night.

Probably my favorite falafel place in NYC. I stumbled upon Cheep’s about 3 years ago when I was starving, broke, and in a hurry. The sign out front bragged of a $ 1.25 falafel sandwich with unlimited salad bar. I didn’t expect much and I was shocked at how good this place was. When I got a 9 – 5 job, I didn’t come back as often as I would have liked. Now that I work in the area again and my boyfriend is obsessed with this place, I’m here all the time. Being a vegetarian, I can only speak on how amazing the falafel is. For $ 1.25, you get a whole wheat pita stuffed with falafel, cabbage, tomato, lettuce, carrots, pickles and topped with tahini sauce. You can add hummus for $ 0.50 more(my boyfriend says it’s good, I have yet to try it). I always add a ton of hot sauce too. This sandwich is delicious, satisfying, and doesn’t leave me feeling gross afterwards. The store is small but I’ve never felt cramped in here. It’s more of a grab and go type of place so if you do sit down to enjoy your falafel, you most likely won’t be bumping elbows with other patrons. The service is fast and everyone has always been very polite. The employees seem clean. The place itself seems relatively clean albeit a little dingy. Regardless, I love this place and now I’m craving a falafel.

CHEAP, fast and delicious. 2 dollar falafel or 3 bucks for a chicken schwarma… can’t go wrong. The workers just tend to be a little cranky, but I could understand since they’re probably making close to nothing and serving mostly drunk idiots.

Good falafel spot. I have to mention, their fries are awesome. Very good, and you can buy special dipping sauces. It’s mainly about the falafel, so many veggies, great topping to stuff your falafel with and make it healthier than it already is. Open late on the weekends, good spot to go after or before a few drinks.

Love this place. So CHEEP! Haha, you knew that was coming, didn’t you? Definitely, get the chicken shwarma for $ 3.50, fill it to the brim at the salad bar and drown it in tahini sauce. You will not regret it. The falafels are equally good. The frites however, are in my honest opinion, much better at pommes frites next door. Cheeps is a must go end-of-the-night destination.

It seems like falafels are back to $ 2 as a Summer special. I love this place. Great falafels at an amazing price. Perfect late night eats. The toppings bar could be better stocked, but I’m still able to get what I want.

This East Village eatery provides eminently affordable chicken-y shawarma deliciousness, and in a pita. For me and the chicken shawarma, it was love at first bite. Don’t like chicken? There’s lamb. Deck out your dish with a smattering of white, hot, or catsup sauces. Folks who shawarma or sandwich it up can take advantage of the self-service salad bar and fulfill any green cravings with the help of hummus, pickles, carrots, onions, and more. Chow down in their tiny dining area, watch a little TV, then tell your friends.

Cheep is… in a word… CHEAP. ha! I am giving it 4 stars for it being cheap. It’s fast… so what if they are not Middle Eastern and I swear I heard Spanish music at this falafel place. hhhhmmmm despite that weird combination… I love their pickles and I love falafel. I would come here again and again for cheap falafel. Yay. Yeah…this is a better alternative than standing on line for Pomme Frites. YIKES. That line is all the way from the middle of the block to the corner. GEEEEEE. all for fries… no thanks… I’ll go to Cheeps. FYI, no gratuities needed because there is no table service.

Yeah, this place rocks. Maddd good and maddd cheap. This place is amazing. Their shawarma is so good and they give you a gigantic helping for only $ 4. You can add a ton of toppings and they season the meat so well! I’ve often shared one shawarma with a friend and still left full. Their fries are great too and come in this giant bucket for only a couple of bucks. I also had their hummus pita once when I wasn’t in the mood for meat. They pile that thing high and it’s only $ 2. Cheep’s is very generous with all their ingredients so you will be satisfied and potentially overstuffed when you leave. The hummus was delicious too! Better than some swanky Middle Eastern restaurants I’ve eaten at. Definitely come here to pick up food or sit in the small seating area. It’s a great place to grab a pita and walk with it around the East Village, or sit on a bench. I’ve spent $ 9-$ 10 on shawarma in the past and it never compares to the tastiness and amazingness of Cheep’s.

It’s shawarma with pickles and cabbage. FINALLY. For some reason, shawarma places in this city think they can get away with lettuce and tomato. Well they aren’t fooling me. I want to shout this from the rooftops: Shawarma has to have CRISP, PICKLED vegetables. That’s IMPORTANT. Cheep’s gives you that. All other NYC places, including the much venerated Mamoun’s, don’t! And Cheeps also gives you a lot of meat, to boot. And Sharwma meat can be light meat, that’s OK. In fact, that’s probably better. Cheeps uses chicken, I think. And that’s OK. The price is right, as well. And they have delicious fries to go along with it.

Come onnnn mannn!!! Are you joking me? You’re joking me right? That’s what I said to the cashier at this place last time I came in here and he charged me $ 2.50 for a falafel! WHAT?! That’s right folks it’s now the same price as Mamoun’s. Now even though it’s still 4x the size of that puny excuse for a falafel they sell over at Mamoun’s, it still kinda makes me mad that they raised the price, in less than a year! The Shwarma, which used to be $ 3.75, is now $ 4.50!!! FYI. Clearly minus a star for that… Also I tried to come by here last nite(Tuesday nite) and they weren’t open. I’m not sure but I coulda sworn this place is 24hrs, or at least pretty close. It was late yes, but not that late, they shoulda been open… That just upset me. They needed to be docked stars for their insolence!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ New New Update: So I’ve decided, after finally eating a «falafel» at Mamoun’s, that this place is a zillion times better… so I will move the stars back up to 4. =)

CHEAP! That’s exactly what’s Cheep’s is. I’ve been here a few times when I lived in New York on grad student budget. I revisited this place this past weekend for some late night grub. The shawarma was tasty and the fries with their sauce was tasty as well. I can’t remember the sauces we shared(excuse me, it was late and I had been drinking). But it’s a good alternative if you don’t want to wait in line at Pommes Frites. I’ve also had the $ 2.50 falafel which is good when you need food on budget. By all means it’s not the best, but hey it’s pretty good for the price. Good, cheap, solid place. Go for it! If you can find a seat in the back eat there or better yet take it to go to enjoy it on your way home or in your home.
