If you like Napolitano style pizza, this unassuming and charming little hole in the wall delivers.

In the continuation of my dining alone series, this episode features Capizzi. And I have to say it was pretty good! I came in on a Saturday around 4pm and the restaurant was empty except for one touristy family. The pizza size was great for a solo diner like myself, but if you’re coming in with a few friends and a huge appetite, I recommend getting a few pies to sample. The only drawback is its proximity to Port Authority so getting there entails passing a bunch of bums(there was a dude just right outside the restaurant with his ass literally hanging out of his pants as he slept on the sidewalk) and if you’re dining alone, you’re pretty much staring out the window at the terminal the entire time – not the best view in the world.

Great pizza! Tried one with sundried tomatoes. Excellent. Cute cozy little dimly lit place playing Frank Sinatra in the city. Works for me. Caprese salad was pretty forgettable, but the pizza made up for it.

I walked into this place by chance and found the following: Brick oven, decent little house wine list, around the corner from a few theaters, and a positively charming exterior and interior. This was a bit of serendipity, as I was walking the streets while waiting to see a play at West Side Theater. The staff makes very good pies, and they treat you like family(yes, in NYC, and at 9th&43rd no less!) inside this quaint, wood-floored, tile-walled pizzeria. With all the Italian-heritage kitsch on the walls, I felt like I’d walked into another era, say 1946 or so. Nice. Oh yes, the food: really delicious pizza, great crust. The only way to order here is one-size personal pies, 12″. Lots of delicious toppings, and clearly made with a passion for good pizza. I had the Prosciutto and Fungi(one of the menu specials); the server told me I had made a great choice and she wasn’t kidding. I would order it again in a NY minute. In case you’re wondering, I could not finish my 12″ pizza, so for about 16 bucks, I had a great meal. Cozy, rustic, romantic, charming with a capital C, and lots of food satisfaction. My only advice, and the only thing that kept this review from 5-star, would be to offer up a few more items on the menu, like some creative and over-stuffed Italian sammies, etc…

Authentic Sicilian restaurant in the theater district. Small, but cozy and quaint. If you are looking for an excellent pizza, this is the place to stop. Took our kids, ages 12 and 8. The younger one, usually a very picky eater ate almost an entire pie herself. The service was wonderful! The waitress even helped our 12 year old practice her Italian. Would definitely recommend.

Capizzi NY Manhattan Hells Kitchen 9pm Wednesday 21st October 2015 5 Stars On Back to the Future II day, we came to Capizzi. This small restaurant is not in the best location next to grimy area near the Port Authority. However, the place is warm, quaint and filled with smell of delicious Italian food. We drank a couple Peronis($ 6.5) while waiting for our pies. I had the Loaded: Provolone, Pepperoni, Sausage, Bell Peppers, Mushrooms, Onions, and Whole Garlic Cloves. The brick oven made the crust crispy with wisps of char. The sauce was sweet, rich, with the right amount of liquidity — not too watery but enough soften the slice. The toppings were plentiful and delicious. The deep roasted garlic flavor against the sweet peppers and spicy pepperoni was a fantastic combo. The service is more Italian laid back style. *they spelled«desserts» on their chalkboard unless they are selling some sand filled pastries.

When I finally decided to write this review(I usually don’t write reviews, either good or bad experiences) I wanted to make sure it wasn’t out of indignation and waited nearly 4 months to let ample time pass and see how we still felt about our experience at this establishment. As a birthday gift, my wife got me a trip to NY. We talked about how cool it would be to spend time together in NY since both of us never been. All in all NY was great, the people were great and we definitely want to go back and do all the things we didn’t have time to do. So, to our experience. We went there on a beautiful Saturday evening for a romantic dinner at a classic pizza parlor. Inside, the place had that nostalgic feel. When we got there the hostess was very nice but the male waitor was rude, he didn’t say hello and immediately began to up-sell us(like a used car salesman) on their most expensive personal pizzas, which I actually went for on his recommendation. My wife a vegetarian went for the Margarita and Basil(one of their least expensive) and he appeared upset by her decision. We waited an extraordinary long time to served our food and were served after others that came in some time after us. When he finally served us our food, he had a dejected look on his face a just tossed the food and left in a very unprofessional manner. It was so bad that we thought about just paying and leaving without eating it. During dinner, not once did he come by to check on us, and it wasn’t very busy. After 25 minutes we finished our food, and he never came by to ask us how things are or if we wanted water while asking the guests next to us. The pizza was average but not sure if it justified the premium price. When we asked for the check he came by with that same dejected look on his face and we waited another 10 minutes or so to settle up. What we hoped would be a wonderful dinner in NY, turned out to be a dud. Not sure if this individual is a fair representation of the restaurant but his lack of professionalism was so bad that every time we talk about our trip to NY, we remember it. My wife and I are not high maintenance individuals and usually give people the benefit of the doubt. The only redeeming quality about the place was the very nice hostess and the décor. We heard so many great things about this place but what we got was a $ 55 bill for two personal pizzas and a jerk of a waitor. In summary, the food was average and the service was very bad.

Capizzi is a tiny pizza play conveniently across from Port Authority. This is a nice place to stop if you want a bite before heading back to Jersey. I had the Margarita pizza, which was perfectly fine and flavorful. The service was just okay, not super attentive.

This spot directly across from the Port Authority was unnervingly empty at rush hour, but had a seat at one of the tables with mismatched chairs near the window(don’t lean back or this particular one will dig into your back. This pizza was better the second day. The key is to heat it up in a flat skillet on low heat for 5 – 10 mins. The bottom will get nice and crispy :) We got 2 pizzas: The Margherita & the Prosciutto with Arugula. The pizza was okay while we dined there. It wasn’t exceptionally amazing or noteworthy. That being said, it wasn’t bad either – and they gave us a lot of prosciutto. So why the 3 stars? The service was bad – like frustratingly bad. The server looked annoyed and served us with a bit of attitude. We didn’t even get our check until I reminded him 10 minutes later.

Such a cute little place with the most amazing pizza I’ve ever had! The prosciutto & mushroom pizza is my favorite out of the 3 that I tried. We also had 2 salads that had buffalo mozzarella cheese that was to die for! We also tried the tiramisu & cannoli which was delicious as well. I will definitely come again whenever I’m in New York

Really nice pizza joint behind not-so-skanky-anymore Port Authority. The place has an authentic feel to it so naturally, the prices are up there. We had a Pizza Margherita with eggplant and it was delicious. We also shared a cannoli. Not a bad lunch. It was nice that the tables were not placed too closely together and that there were not too many people there at noon on a Tuesday. There should probably be more people in there considering how good it is.

Adorable little pizza shop hidden right near Port Authority. The tiny little one-room restaurant was empty enough around 2:00 on a Saturday that our party of five was quickly shown to a table. They brought us a bottle of tap water for the table and round wooden flats to act as plates. The menu is fairly extensive, and although it says that their pizzas are all personal sized, you have to be REALLY hungry to eat one of those all by yourself. We ordered three pizza for the table and that was plenty for the five of us. We had the margherita, the asparagus and the eggplant. All three were excellent Neapolitan pizza: fresh mozzarella, flavorful marinara, chewy crust. Our waitress was actually from Italy, which I suppose has to be a good sign. The only downside was that when it was time to pay they wouldn’t accept our credit card, as they said the machine wasn’t working. We had to send a couple people out hunting for an ATM. Would have been nice to know in advance that this would be the case. But it’s great pizza and a fun little place, so give it a try, but come with cash just in case.

Excellent pizza! This is a sit down place and my friend and I were in a hurry, but we managed to get in, eat and get out in under 20 minutes. The margherita is delicious and definitely enough for two people to share. Friendly service and reasonably priced for pizza of this quality! I would love to return and try the other varieties. Update 12⁄2015: the salad is a great deal — very fresh and tasty!

This is one of the best pizza places I’ve been. It can get crowded since the place is rather small. But it’s average size for NYC I guess. The food is excellent, very fresh and delicious. I think all their cheese are imported from Italy. We tried the dessert it’s just meh so I would just stick with the pizza. I love the arugula one. The all meat one is pretty good too.

3.5 stars. It’s a gem in a very dirty, construction-ridden neighborhood, right across the street from one of Port Authority’s many entrances on Ninth Avenue. We arrived for dinner on a Sunday evening and our party of 4 had to wait about 15 – 20 minutes to be seated. It’s one of the only authentic, thin-crust, brick oven pizza in the area, so we didn’t mind the wait. The restaurant is just big enough to seat 25 – 30 people at any given moment, and gives off a very cozy vibe, with framed portraits and miscellaneous artwork stringing down from the ceilings. Don’t feel pressured to dress up because this isn’t that type of restaurant. We started off with the Arugula salad– predictable but a simple way to start the meal. They highly recommended we try their sangria, so we did. But they do not offer them in pitchers. We continued with a few of their pies, which I thought were too big to be personal pies but too small to share with another person. The crust was thin and a little crispy, just the way I like it. Capizzi is a nice place to go to if you’re in the mood for some decent food in the area, while waiting to board a bus in Port Authority.

This pizzeria is tucked away and easily overlooked. I found this on Unilocal because of the great reviews. I love the authentic feel of the place and when you first walk in the brick oven is straight ahead with a roaring fire. They do not sell by the slice but I was not bothered one bit. They make a personal sized pizza 12″, to your specification. I do not like marinara and they made the pie with no hesitation. The pizza was delicious and I did not waste anytime putting it away. My only regret was not bringing home leftovers. When I return to New York, I will make a special trip to this place.

Nette Kellner.

We are from Germany and stand yesterday at this pizzeria. what is true is that it is made nice, but that was it. Even by New York standards, it was extremely cold and after i ask if they can heat ist up, they will so it… but a few minutes later they but the Airconditioning also on. The Pizza was standard, but cold after 5 Minutes. After we get the check, ist was horrible, 2 Pizza an one bottle of a simple wine for nearly 100,00 Dollar is to much, heavy to much, mainly because we could not stay longer then 30 minutes.
