Clearly most of these reviewers don’t cook. The idea that someone would sell broth in a coffee cup for $ 8+ is FREAKINGRIDICULOUS. Was curious. Tried it. Tasty but not impressed. Am a decent cook, it’s really not difficult to make a good broth or soup.

Brodo’s broth is everything you need for a cold winter day in NYC. The have a vast array of health broths made right in the kitchen which you can see from the window which you order from. It is a pretty cool view to see them working while you order. I got the beef broth with the garlic purée. It comes in a coffee cup and with every sip is filled with tremendous flavor. The delicious smell and warm taste of beef and garlic is amazing. The price is pretty high around $ 7 – 10 a cup but it is worth it.

A cup of hearth broth is the perfect treat in winter. Last night, I dropped my cup all over 1st ave as I was putting on my gloves and was devastated. The server gave me another without even asking, nicest New Yorker in the city! Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.

Sipping broth from a coffee cup was fun. I tried the classic(chicken + shiitake) and the BBC(beef, marrow, chili oil). The thick layer of chili oil on the BBC was a little unpleasant, but the flavor was very good. Kind of expensive at around $ 7 a cup, but it’s worth trying.

Was not aware of any ‘broth craze’ sweeping the country but as it turns out, I am fully on board with this latest food movement. I love broth and never really even knew it. But what’s more comforting on a cold, drizzly winter day than a warm cup of soul-rejuvenating broth? Ironically, my first trip to Brodo’s window was on a 65° day in December. Needless to say, the full impact of a healing cup of broth was not fully felt on this visit. Still, the ‘BBC’(beef broth, bone marrow, chili) was satisfyingly rich while being mild enough for a whole cup to be drinkable. I also didn’t detect any noticeable ‘MSG headache’ afterwards, nor did I feel bloated like I sometimes do after the ‘broth’ at the end of a bowl of ramen. Now that temps are finally dropping, a cup of Brodo sounds absolutely necessary.

I just had surgery and Brodo’s hearth broth is making me feel warm and cozy and so much better. Thank you so much to the chefs there for your healing touch.

LOVE everything about this place! Best bone broth I have found in NYC. Perfectly seasoned and you won’t feel gross after you consume it. Often broth is loaded with sodium — Brodo’s is not. People complained about the price. Brodo is organic and delicious. I don’t think it’s overpriced at all. It’s the best!

This brilliant adjunct to Hearth restaurant(my favorite in NYC) started the bone broth craze and while I’m not sure about the oft touted seemingly infinite health benefits I can say the stuff tastes amazing and I always feel fantastic after drinking a large«Hearth» in the afternoon. Chef Marco Canora is a NYC treasure.

Omg this little tiny walk up window is amazing! We walked what seemed like a million blocks to get to this place and it was top notch! If I didn’t live ½ across the country I would stop here every single day. I got a medium bone broth with Shikoku mushrooms and bone marrow. It was so so delicious!!!

Went with the ginger Beef Broth(Small)(Made with NY State grass fed beef bones) for $ 5.17 and it was a nice treat on a cold day, but don’t see myself craving it enough to return or upsize if I did.

Let me start by saying that I am not new to the broth game. I make a batch every week in my kitchen. I stopped by Brodo because I was in NY for the weekend, missing my daily broth fix and wanted to see how another place’s broth would compare to my own. The day I went was perfect for it — chilly and rainy. The broth hit the spot! I got the Hearth and the Gingered Beef and BOTH were absolutely delicious(Hearth was tastier by a hair)!! They tasted like liquid Thanksgiving dinner! I questioned how much salt was used, they weren’t salty, I just don’t add any salt to mine. But after tasting theirs, I just might start LOL! My ONLY wish is that they had one in DC! Ten stars!!!

Only in Manhattan would you be able to get a small cup of broth for $ 4.75. I have to say, this is pretty unique and clever, selling broth in a coffee cup and making it the new hipster thing to drink. I came to Brodo some time in December to try out their Hearth broth(think it was only $ 4 back then?). It was a frigid day and my boyfriend and I were heading to Korilla for lunch. I really need something to warm my hands and made a quick stop at Brodo. The Hearth broth was honestly extremely good – I would probably choose to drink a cup of broth over a cup of hot chocolate, though the pricing is steep. It was extremely flavorful, but not too salty, and I actually felt decently full after a small cup of it, which I wasn’t expecting. Though it’s expensive, I would probably get it again in the middle of the cold, blistering, winter. It kept my entire body warm as I walked to St. Marks! Back then there were only three flavors or so, and I’m excited to try out what else they have to offer now.

Happened to walk by on a really cold and windy day and was excited to try it. There were only 2 people in front of us but since they seem to help only one person at a time and we ended up waiting a while because one very large order. We tried the gingered beef broth and while pretty tasty, did not think it was worth the $ 5.something for 8oz. However, I can understand why it is addicting and is a great alternative to coffee or tea to warm yourself up.

When it’s desperately cold, and you are from a beautiful warm climate, what do you do in NYC? If you are me, you stand outside in the wind tunnel of a sidewalk and wait at a dark, closed window for a cup of delicious, hot soup. There were half a dozen people in line and I figured, if they can do it, I can do it. Then, a nice elderly grandmother type all bundled up in multiple layers stopped. She stared. She says to me, «Why are you standing outside on the sidewalk?» I replied, we are getting hot soup! She had a somewhat puzzled expression on her face as I watched the gears turning. I knew she was thinking«Silly youngster, you can make your own soup you know.» But, she nicely said she’d have to come by and try it. Then, two female Japanese tourists stopped to stare. The whispered to each other. One said nervously, as the other giggled, «What you do?» I replied happily, we are getting soup! They both said, «Ohhhhhh…» and giggled some more. Then, the second lady pulled out her phone to snap a photo of the crazy Americans standing outside in the freezing cold to get soup. It was my perfect opportunity… Photobomb! As for the soup and broth, delicious! It’s worth freezing to death for the entertainment. The soup is an added bonus.

I have nothing but admiration for Marco Canora, and both my prior visits to Hearth were some of the most positive experiences I’ve had in NYC; so it should come as no surprise that I was quick to mentally bookmark Brodo upon hearing that Chef Canora was launching a broth take-out counter in an unused window at Hearth. Planning around an evening in the East Village one Friday gave me the perfect opportunity to suggest a quick stop at Brodo beforehand, and despite the fact that spotting the tiny window was a little confusing, the bright orange awning overhead was certainly helpful. The menu is small as there’s essentially only three broths to choose from: an organic chicken, a gingered grass-fed beef, and the Hearth broth, which utilizes a mixture of chicken, turkey, and beef bones. A variety of toppings and add-ins, like a Calabrian chili oil, shiitake mushroom tea, or bone marrow, can be included for a supplemental charge, or guests can go for the heartier soups that are also available. We visited fairly early on when Brodo had just opened, so there were only a handful of people at the time, and thankfully, no wait. Chef Canora was manning the window and upon seeing our indecision, offered us a taste of each of the three broths, which we eagerly accepted. I have to say that of the three, the Hearth broth was my least favorite as it tasted a little too muddled and plain; I can definitely see the need for additional seasonings or add-ins to make it a more flavorful broth. The Grass-Fed Beef, however, was surprisingly aromatic, as the addition of a ginger made for a much more full-bodied broth. My favorite of the three was definitely the Chicken, however; while it was certainly the lightest of the three broths, there was an amazing amount of depth and flavor that had been coaxed out of the chicken bones, and the near-perfect seasoning of the broth was the(metaphorical) cherry on top. I’m not sure I can make Brodo something on my regular rotation, though. At a price of anywhere between $ 4-$ 7 for a cup, it makes for a pretty expensive beverage, especially given the fact that it’s made using the unusable, leftover product from the restaurant. Nonetheless, it’s good to see that in a time when chefs are ceaselessly trying to outdo each other to make the next over-the-top creation, chefs like Marco Canora are returning back to their roots, and with success.

Ground zero of the current broth craze sweeping the nation, Brodo is definitely worth a stop if you want to see what this trendy bone-lust is all about. Both the chicken and hearth broths were great, with the hearth slightly better due to its complexity and intensity of flavor. To be honest though, the chicken broth here is really simple and delicious and clean, so if I were sick or just really cold and tired I might actually go with this one. Both broths were a really deep brown and actually have a pretty respectable amount of salt, fat and body. I think they roast the bones in an oven before steeping them in the water. The broth feels way more substantial when you are consuming it than you think it will. Like you can get legit full on a large cup of this stuff. Due to the fact that it is currently getting cold outside and this little window is in a high-traffic area, there’s always a bit of a line. I got in a two person line here at 4:15 and when I left like maybe ten minutes later there were about 12 people behind me, so folks are definitely catching on. Tbh who knows how many health benefits are actually in broth as it is pretty much what you think it will be: salty tasty soup broth. But boy, is it some outstanding broth.

Love the concept and all of flavors! Minus star because of increased prices. A small cup of hot broth will set you back $ 4.75, which even in NYC for a unique experience is too much. (On my first visit the small cup was $ 4.)

New York: There’s a bone broth hype. No seriously, it’s real. So real, that I got sucked in to trying this Hearth-adjacent window in the LES on a chilly evening to see what the magical elixir was all about. I walked up to the window(no line yet, phew) and ordered a small Hearth broth, which sounded the savoriest. It was a little under $ 5, so a bit more than a latte but about on par with a cup of fancy hot cocoa. While I’m certain you can make this ish on your own with some leftover chicken bones, for a warm treat on a 20-degree day, it’s worth it. Warning though, it’s super hot when you first get it! So wait a few minutes for it to cool.

I don’t really know how to rate a walk up window that serves hot cups of broth. There’s no other place like it, and it’s kinda weird drinking an entire cup of the meaty stuff. There aren’t many options, and I don’t see myself returning here to replace a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, but it does taste really good though, so I guess 4 stars seems reasonable. There are three types of broth to choose from: Beef, Chicken and Hearth, which is a combination of beef, chicken and turkey. I got a small cup of the Hearth($ 4), and it was incredibly flavorful. It was really meaty and tasted like it could probably fill you up if you had a big enough cup. There are also three types of soup on the menu: Beef & Winter Vegetable, Ribolitta and Chickarina($ 7 for a small). Unfortunately I just missed the chance to try one as they stopped serving them right when I arrived. Marco Canora, the owner of Hearth next door, was running the window and was super nice and enthusiastic about everything. I think I’ll return earlier in the day next time for s shandy to try one of the soups.

Sure it seems like something straight out of Portlandia, but boy is this broth delicious. I’ve been known to heat up water and throw a bullion cube inside for a hot, salty, and meaty little treat in my day… so learning of a broth bar opening up ½ block from my apartment was quite the fun little discovery. It’s essentially a pop up window on the 1st Avenue side of Hearth in East Village, and so far with my first taste of their Hearth Broth(combination of chicken, turkey, and beef sipping broths), it’s going to a regular stop of mine throughout fall and winter. They seem to be in soft opening mode currently as their menu isn’t 100% available(they have some actual soups to go along with their sipping broths), but I can’t imagine it’ll be too long before they’re fully operational and lines form as the cold descends on the city. In addition to the signature Hearth Broth, they have a straight chicken broth and a grass fed beef broth. I didn’t see a vegetarian option on their menu, but depending on your dietary preferences that may or may not be an issue for you at all. Excited to see how the concept fares! It’s certainly something I’ve yet to see in my 32+ years of eating and drinking things.
