This place is something else… if you’re looking for a cheap lunch, this isn’t the place to go… but you do get what you pay for & this place is on point. I will definitely be going back here.

Yes yes yes! Dont be intimidated by the long line out the door — it moves fairly quickly since it is cafeteria style and the workers are great at being efficient. Came around 12:30 pm during a very busy lunch, but was out of there within 15 – 20 minutes. Choose 1 protein(chicken, salmon, shrimp) + 2 sides(veggies & grains). They have other sandwiches and salads, but for the most part, the pick n choose platters are the way to go! Recommend the salmon + mustard chicken, the kale salad, and orizo with zucchini, though i’m sure the other options are just as delicious. Healthy and tasty I love this place so much I would seriously come every lunch during my break. Around $ 12 – 14 for a meal depending which protein option you pick.

Very pleased indeed… I moved into this neighborhood(work) a few months now and have wondered what healthy options are around. There’s Dig Inn not far away, and you can always hack the hot/cold salads and Chipotle — but then there’s BtB! Very similar to Dig Inn in some ways — but more grilled chicken and fish options. The line does go quickly, and I’ll definitely be coming back. It’s just a bummer the food is only temperately warm. I’d really like something hot.

The glazed salmon here is everything. As tender as my girlish heart and melt-in-your mouth good. I wants the recipe. Get it with the kale salad and green bean salad. Skip the grains. Healthy, tasty lunch 100% approved by your mom. You’re welcome.

I was surprised about how much I really enjoyed the food here! This is an excellent lunch spot that is super healthy and delicious. Between the Bread’s spotlight is probably on their lunch plate with seafood, chicken, or their signature salmon — Herb Grilled Salmon, Cajun Salmon, etc along with two sides. I am a regular for their Herb Grilled Salmon with Kale Salad and a grain. I loved how well the salmon pieces are seasoned and perfectly charred. Kale salad has cranberries in them and it was lightly dressed with a bit of sweetness. I really enjoyed this light combination when I just want to have a light lunch that won’t make me go into food coma in the afternoon! Each month, they will rotate their sides and protein. There is something different and new each month! Although, this place is on the pricey side for lunch.

So I have kind of been falling in love with this place for my lunch. Love eating the grilled herb salmon. Love the roast veggies too. My only gripe with this place is, when it comes to the veggies and grains they are similar. So if one day there is almonds in something you can bet it’s in another two dishes. Same with the cheese it’s in 3 salads and maybe one of the grains. You guys need to mix it up a bit more like dig inn. Other than that I love this joint. Ps had the chicken soup today too. Yes I was that hungry lol and yes it was tasty

What a find in Midtown. Between the Bread is my new favorite lunch option for its fresh, healthy options that don’t compromise on flavor. For your order, you get to choose one protein(typically two salmon choices, one shrimp, one chicken, and one fish). I usually opt for the salmon, always cooked to be moist and flavorful and a much larger portion than what’d you get at the typical healthy salad/bowl joint. The sides also come in a variety of eye catching forms. My favorites typically include the green beans with roasted slivered almonds, the roasted cauliflower, or the kale salad with slices of apple. I haven’t been disappointed by any of their options thus far. Lunch typically runs about $ 13 – 15 if you stick to the normal plate of one protein and two sides. The meal is well worth the price! Can’t wait until Between the Bread starts an online ordering service.

I dunno why I have a hard time remembering the name of this place, but your experience here is unforgettable, and if you work in the Bryant park area, this should definitely be part of your lunch rotation. I love this place. They have samples of their delicious dessert/baked goods for you to nosh on as you wait in line and order. I’ve had the shrimp prepared 2 ways– breaded and seared with paprika. I’d recommend the shrimp as they are good in size, not overcooked and pretty flavorful. I’ve tried my friend’s scallops and they were pretty good too. They are topped with a pesto sauce that brings out the flavor in the scallops. The sides you can choose from are not only delicious but quite healthy. I really like the cous cous. They are the bigger kind. I’d recommend trying it. I never leave without getting a dessert. The pecan caramel square and biscotti are a good way to end your meal.

Today I found my newest lunch spot! I’ve been wanting to try this place for quite some time since my coworker mentioned how fresh their fish was. I knew I had to go in and try it for myself. Gorgeous 70 degree days like today can call for huge lunch lines at these Midtown restaurants. I was out of the office around 1:15 and walking down Madison, I already saw the Dig Inn line out the door. As I turned the corner for Between the Bread, I was pleased to see the last person on line was nearly touching the doorway. Not bad. You can get sandwiches here, but they’re most popular for the made to order plates. The workers form an assembly line, similar to the style of Chipotle… Did I say Chipotle? No wonder this is my kind of place! I was at the front of the line in no time and had a mini-panic attack since this was my first time and I didn’t want to hold the line up. I opted for the herb-grilled salmon with orzo salad and called out the first thing I saw for my other side, «aaaand… roasted cauliflower!» As I was just about ready to leave, I spotted a corner table and decided to stay. The salmon was the main attraction as it was perfectly seasoned and moist! Loved the orzo salad as well. So light and perfect to compliment the big salmon steak. I could’ve done without the cauliflower, but I am glad I tried it. I’ll need to switch it up for next time, which makes me excited to get something else when I return. Portions are more than my usual size for a mid-day meal, but I can appreciate a generous amount for a healthy lunch! What heightened my experience just that much more was their playlist! Throwback on throwback from the 90’s to early 00’s. I’m a sucker for good playlists at any given point, so kudos to the DJ in the house!

Updated– Owner asked for me to come back for a complimentary meal after reading my comments. Usually I don’t go back but I knew this place had potential. The cauliflower was 10x better. Perfectly seasoned. The Brussels sprouts I cannot vouch for since they didn’t have that day. Quinoa and beets were solid. I tried their shrimp that day with a mustard sauce. I should’ve asked for more sauce cause it complemented the deep fried shrimp that well. They do have another location on 55th and 6th. Honestly, I think that location is better. Plus it’s closer to my work office. Definitely recommend. — — — — — — — — — — — — — – Outdated– Similar style to dig inn and the little beet. Get one protein and 2 sides. I got the herb salmon with roasted cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Salmon was good. Better than the little beet. Everything is at room temperature or a tad cold. This is a pretty expensive lunch joint which honestly is not worth it’s price tag. The roasted cauliflower was beyond salty that I had to chug down a bottle of water and to a certain point, just had to let the cauliflower go to waste. The bigger chunks of cauliflower wasn’t as salty and those were pretty good. Too much Parmesan cheese though. The Brussels sprouts were really mushy that it resembles the texture of baby food. I love roasted Brussels sprouts but these were not well seasoned or cooked properly. I’m going to pass on this place…

*Updating based on more visits* I’m not as impressed by the food as I originally was. 4 for now, we will see if I go back. It is another Chipotle style restaurant, very similar to Dig Inn(1 protein, 2 sides, on a bed of lettuce) There is a big focus on seafood(usually 2 types of salmon, 1 shrimp, 1 cod, 2 types of chicken). You can also opt to get 3 sides instead. The food is delicious, and the portions are big! I went around 1:30, so there wasn’t much of a line, but I could see there being a big line right around 12. I had the herb salmon which was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. I also had the roasted cauliflower and cabbage salad — both of which they give me a huge mountain of — and they were great, as well.

The cooking is superb, unfortunately the ingredients are not. The fish they use is farm raised. If they had some wild caught options I would give them 5 stars. Serving«healthy» farm raised fish is misleading. The owner should strongly consider using wild caught fish which I believe would increase their sales.

The best — The people that work there is as good as the food. The Salmon is allways AWESOME.

The service was solid and the presentation all the way down the bar was bright colors and beautiful food. For a veg-friendly gal like myself, this place was a little overwhelming to walk into seeing most menu standards are meat-centric. Luckily, the rushed fellow behind the counter said there was an option to grab 3 sides further down the assembly line. A bright beet salad, non-dairy coleslaw, and a kale and jicama salad made the cut for me. This salad/pseudo-health focused joint will run you $ 10-$ 20 per person, depending on what you get. For me, my pile of vegetables came to $ 12. My Unilocal pal Alex B threw down $ 15 for something with meat in it. This place seems more fresh and farm-to-table focused than a lot of the lunch spots around Midtown but you’ll definitely be paying a few dollars more for the privilege.

This place deserve all the stars. Their seasonal menu is actually seasonal, so you can get different salads and sides depending on what produce is fresh and in season. All of their proteins(chicken, fish, shrimp to name a few) are deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked. The sides! Oh, the sides. There were so many options to choose from. Roasted root vegetables, roasted cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale salad, lots of yummy grain options… It’s also a great environment. Everyone who works there are super nice. If you can dodge the weekday lunch hour, you will be able to sit down and have a lovely meal. I got the Cajun salmon with roasted brussel sprouts and a cabbage salad that had carrots and cashews. It was insanely delicious. Don’t walk, RUN to this place!

Upon walking in, my first thought was, «Great, another Little Beet that serves a protein and two sides for an unsustainable $ 15 price tag.» I went ahead and tried it anyway since I was in the area for an appointment, and working in midtown has convinced me that meals under $ 20 aren’t exactly high stakes. There was no line at 1pm, and I saw the protein options lined up(all room temperature), decently portioned and fresh-looking. The catfish came with a tomato-avocado topping, so I was lured to choose that over the salmon. I then opted for the kale salad and roasted root vegetables(carrots, sweet potatoes, parsnip, beets). I have to say, the kale salad is probably the best I can remember having — certainly in a casual restaurant setting and maybe even compared to a nicer, sit-down restaurant. Bright, very lightly dressed, with refreshing apple strips. Yum. The catfish was nicely cooked, not too soft and not too mushy. Rather impressive quality control, considering any successful lunch spot in midtown is essentially a volume shop. I really enjoyed the fact that the roasted veggies had such a variety of root vegetables, too. I was slightly concerned the sides would be too oily based on some other reviews, but I didn’t find that to be an issue. There was oil on the roasted veggies, but didn’t seem excessive. An additional plus for me was spotting Hu Chocolate by the register. My latest obsession, at «only» $ 6.75 compared to $ 8 at the LIC-based Mill coffeeshop. I’ll have to try Little Beet again to more definitively figure out which one I like better, but so far Between the Bread is a winner, and seems that their chefs really have a handle on flavors that translate well to this format. Hurray for the commoditization of healthy lunches!

Just came here for lunch for the first time and it was amazing! The line goes fast during lunch. I definitely recommend the salmon and the kale salad. They have great guac too!

It’s a rarity to find a lunch spot in Midtown where you can actually eat fresh and healthy food. If healthy and delicious is what you’re looking for, then you should check this place out — but don’t come here too often because I don’t want to stand in a long line ;) I think the name«Between the Bread» is an oxymoron because most of their menu focuse on salads and bowls and not sandwiches. You choose your protein and then pick two sides. The proteins include grilled or herb-grilled chicken, salmon, catch of the day or shrimp. The salmon looked great, but on this particular day I chose the catch of the day, which was a beautifully cooked white fish. Sides include roasted pumpkin, brussels sprouts, fire roasted cauliflower, beet salad and kale. Grains include wild rice, couscous or quinoa. I went with the kale and beet salad. Both were delicious and healthy. Portions are not too large, but just enough. Prices are not bad either, I’d happily pay more to eat healthy everyday. Very little seating here, so most likely you’ll have to do take out.

I went here for lunch the last three days! I have had the chicken special(changed each day) and it was excellent. I really like the cauliflower and kale salad. Also ask for a side of honey mustard. It’s delicious. I also really like the people here. Everyone is nice and friendly! They noticed and remembered me and gave me free cookies today(cookies are the key to my heart. To be honest it’s a little more money than I want to spend on lunch($ 13) but it’s worth it. Think Diginn but better!

I love trying places that just opened! Not only because it gets crazy but the dedication level and commitment to quality food and service is always wonderful. One of the owners is here asking direct feedback which is always nice! The woopies(overgrown macaroons) were calling my name and they gave me an extra one to try ^_^ #winning They didn’t have true Brewer iced coffee(then again it is «winter» now so not expected but o think adding that to the menu would be a plus. They have seating(3 tables) in the window/door so nice people watching. They have a good selection of fresh food, sandwiches and more! Love the décor, modern, rustic, industrial feel. Oh and they serve Harney & Sons teas!!!
