I went to the salon to have my hair cut and color done a few weeks ago. I’ve been doing my hair with Fabiola for more then five years now. My color couldn’t look better! I trust her with my eyes closed! I’m really happy with my hair cut too. She is always listens and knows what style will look better for me. She is an amazing hair stylist! The salon has a welcome environment and great professionals. Definitely going back!

Mind you, this is a review of attitude, rather than skill. I walk in at 7:40pm with wet hair(had just been to the gym). The salon closes at 8pm so imagine my surprise when one of the three hairdressers hanging out there gives me the sad baby look and says sorry, too late. Even for a quick trim. As I turned my back to her i think i heard her ask me if i wanted to book an appointment. No, my little optimistic pumpkin. If you have too many clients and can’t accommodate one more(within working hours), I will take my business elsewhere. Like the salon right across the street from you. And that all i have to say about *The Ben David Concept Salon*.

Last week I went to Ben David and had Sara highlight my hair. It came out amazing! Sara took the time to listen to my ideas and offered her expert advise and ideas. She truly had a gift knowing the right color to use to make her customer look and feel their their best ! Sara’s kind and caring ways were greatly appreciated. I absolutely LOVE my hair!!! I have never had so many compliment’s on my hair color from so many friends and family. I am so glad I found Sara at Ben David to place my hair care needs into her expert hands. Looking forward to my return visit! She is the BEST!!!

I expected that I would get stuck with a junior less experienced stylist when using my Groupon certificate, but I was pleasantly surprised to have my hair cut by Ben himself. The receptionist asked if i wanted to go ahead and have my hair washed or wait to have Ben look at my hair first — I of course asked to wait so he could see the texture of my hair. Ben even did the blow dry himself which even at more expensive salons when you pay upwards of $ 100 and $ 150 you end up getting pawned off on a junior person for the blow out. Great haircut and great experience!

Curly hair — beware!!! The short version: worst haircut I have ever had. I bought the Groupon $ 59 for a «Director Level cut»(value $ 145 — Hah!). I should have suspected trouble right from the beginning when there was no consultation with the stylist before the wash(however I will say that the shampoo and scalp massage were great). When I sat down in the stylist, Aydin’s chair, I asked him if he had seen me when I came in and that my hair is CURLY. He mumbled an acknowledgement and the proceeded to start blowing my hair out straight. I wondered what he was doing and said a couple of times that I did not wear my hair straight. I finally asked him to stop and reminded him that I was there for a haircut — which apparently was a surprise to him. He then began cutting my hair — part of it already blown out straight! I suggested that he wet it down again but he continued cutting — at one point he joked that I should tell him to stop cutting before he went too far — no kidding! I walked out of there looking like Bozo the clown with stick-straight bangs and too-short poofy hair on the sides. I really am surprised that the other people working there let me leave looking like that. I don’t know what«Director Level» means but the receptionist told the hair washer to give me to «whoever is available first» — maybe they are all«Directors»? Fortunately hat season is here and by Spring it will have grown out. I am sorry that I didn’t heed the advice of other Unilocalers.

On the recommendation of a friend, I went to Ben David as a walk-in appointment in late May for a Brazilian Blowout. I am utterly disappointing with everything about it. My previous Coppola blowouts lasted 5 months, this Lasio lasted barely 1 month. Also, I found out later that the person who performed by blow out was the hair washer. I paid $ 229, which is about half what I usually pay, but I will do more research before I pick a new salon and never go there again.

i went to bendavid today because i needed my color done early on a saturday last minute and couldn’t get to my regular place. fabiola was my colorist and i LOVE her. she was kind, she smiled at me(something that can be hard to come by in NYC) and she listened. she got me what i wanted, we chatted, we got along, etc. the environment in the salon is nice, it’s bright and clean and modern, and the people who work there seem to get along and like working together. the only thing i didn’t love was that fabiola was busy and didn’t stay with me the whole time, had to take other people while my color was going, so a couple times an assistant ended up with me while she would just come in to check. on the other hand, what else is she going to do with that time? it all worked out ok. overall i had a great experience. even the woman at the front desk was polite and friendly — i haven’t experienced something like that in new york in a long time.

So, I went here on a whim yesterday and cut off about two feet of hair, and I LOVE my new hair. Julia, my stylist, was very confident and totally professional– and I never felt like she or any of the other stylists were snobby in the least. She listened to what I wanted and gave me an incredibly cool, punky, hot style… for only $ 89, which is a total steal. I can’t wait to go back.

Mario is the MAN ! Solid haircut, cheap by NYC standards. I only endorse Mario, can’t speak for the others. Oh, and the blonde who washes my hair almost puts me to sleep she’s so good.

talk about hair butchers. so awful, i thought since the neighborhood is a realy good one and they seem to have a decent amount of customers in there whenever I pass by that it wouldn’t be so bad. well so far my biggest regret of 2007! the cut was a week ago, still cant pass by a mirror without wanting to break it. they acted like all they would take off is a few inches and most of the length would remain, umm blatant lie. before i knew it, my hair turned into a lamer shaggier version of «the rachel» yet according to them this is the hottest newest trend in haircuts now. gimme a break, they did this to me cuz i’m the first client they saw that was under age 68 so this was their weak attempt at funky/modern. i’d give no stars if i could =/

i don’t know about their women’s haircut, but the haircut they gave me was so-so. i paid $ 32 for me haircut, which is about three times what i usually pay. the hairdressers were a little wimpy(geez, stop pinching at my hair and start cutting already). the hairdresser i got was rather self-absorbed, and didn’t really understand what i wanted. should’ve gone to neighborhood barber instead.

This place was nice and gave me a decent haircut but they pretty much ripped me off. They had a special for walk-in cut and wash for $ 35, which I thought was great, but then they charged me an additional $ 35 to blow dry it! Come on.
