Came here today with my friend and cousin who recently moved in down the street. We were hoping to find a nearby go-to brunch spot. Unfortunately, Barking Dog fell short. We were sat inside which was initially okay until they turned off the AC and began blasting unusual current pop tunes(5th Harmony, Justin Beiber?) I ordered the farmland dish mostly because it said that it came with roasted tomatoes. I wasn’t aware that this meant they just cut a giant tomato in half and grilled it. It was practically inedible. There was also some other sort of cheese-covered salad(?) on my plate mentioned nowhere on the menu. It looked like chicken and jalapeño smothered in cheese. Considering I can’t eat both chicken and cheese, it would’ve been nice to have some heads-up. The cheese oozed all over my eggs and toast. Speaking of toast, all three of us ordered it. There were only two small butter packets on the table. Our MIA waitress was unable to attend to us apparently, so most of our toast remained untouched. My friends side dish was also entirely messed up. She ordered wheat toast and was instead given a biscuit. Things only got worse when we went to pay our check. I went to pay with my MasterCard only to be told they don’t accept MasterCard. We had to split the check between the three of us which took forever. Our waitress, although terrible regarding service, was kind and apologetic. She stated, «yeah they really should let people know about the policy on cards or something.» Needless to say we agreed and won’t be back.

Decent breakfast spot! More upscale than average diner. Nice spot with ample seating and lots of dog décor. Came for brunch and was satisfied. Large selection for breakfast and its served all day. Prices average for the area. Fast and efficient servers.

Sunday brunch — so place was packed but we got a nice outside table that some sun and some shade — that’s your first plus! they have sangria on sundays and its very tasty, I had a couple! the food was good but not very interesting, pretty plain… I guess I wish they had a better variety or just more interesting dishes then pancakes/eggs etc… service was good, prices are ok. will come back again if i’m in the area(mainly for the sangria).

I went for dinner a couple weeks ago after only getting delivery and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is a cute clean place, and it has a cool bar with a few TVs in the front. They have a bunch of outdoor seating at this location that wraps around the corner which is probably really nice during brunch hours. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce, and it tasted pretty fresh. Our waitress was really pleasant and attentive, so can’t complain about service. If I had any critique, it’d be that the menu is a bit tough if you’re a picky eater like I am, but they do seem to be accommodating if you ask for alterations/subs. Kinda wish I had a dog to bring here! They cater to them outside with water bowls, etc!

I came with my friend and I was extremely surprised because Barking Dog is the best place for brunch in the city! I had Eggs Florentine and my friend had smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict and they were delicious! Make sure when you come, try the Pomegranate Mimosa! It’s really good! Service wise, it was fast and friendly. The name of our waitress was Brianna, she was really helpful and attentive. We would definitely come back!

This spot is so, so cute. We got a table outside on what felt like the first sunny day in YEARS and I was so pleasantly surprised. I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and a coffee — both were divine. Our server was really nice. Would definitely return!

LOVEDITHERE! It would have been a full 5 stars if the Hosts were a bit more nice and our server was too… Just moved into the area with my boyfriend and have been trying out most restaurants in the neighborhood! We loved our food. I had a really good steak with mash potatoes and spinach on the side… DELISH! After my boyfriend and I ordered some drinks. — they were really good/strong! I just felt a bit rushed and our sever kept repeating the pricing of things my boyfriend and I ordered as if we walk out the house… into a restaurant and not come with money to spend… Maybe she was having a bad day but its no excuse. Otherwise — it was really good and loved the crowd in the venue! Will come back here!

This place is good for a standard brunch that’s good for your wallet but not amazing for your stomach. The pancakes were flat-out BAD but everything else so far was… okay. Nothing at the menu jumps out as really good yet I’ve come back here a few times. Nice to come and sit in a booth and talk but… you can probably cook something tastier at home. I think dinner or lunch might be better…

This is my absolute«go to» in neighborhood, and judging by the business, it is for many locals as well! Barking Dog has a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere– the staff always seems genuinely happy to have you– 7 years later and this has never wavered! The food is consistent, of high quality, lots to choose from, and reasonably priced! I personally enjoy dining at the bar with a glass of wine(always a decent selection). Brunch is also a must, and they do a fun ladies night on Wednesdays! Can you tell I’m a fan?! :) 5 Stars.

I came last weekend and order some of their house-made guacamole with fresh lobster and parsley with their freshly made tortilla… it was great! Add seven glasses of mimosa to that and you got the perfect Saturday brunch! There was a bit of a wait, since it is a weekend, but we got accommodated quickly and the server was right there to attend us. The staff was really nice. I really liked the music they had playing on the background and so did my friend. Overall, great food and would definitely come back again!

This place is great for a hangover cure, a boozy brunch, cute date, or anything else :) My friend and I tried this place for brunch after a long night out and we were delightfully surprised! Décor: sophisticated & friendly. The dog theme is clearly implemented throughout in a non stuffy, clean and inviting space. I wouldn’t call this place is not a diner, but it gives you the easy breezy, carefree feel. Very relaxing for a morning feast. There is outside seating and great natural light fills the space. It somehow made me feel like it had a Mediterranean feel– probably because of the colors used. Service– GREAT! Our waitress, Briana, was a joy! She was knowledgable of the menu, which is always important, smiled every time she came to the table, and extremely attentive. We never had to ask for a refill and she let us sit and chat– never did we feel rushed, even though it was very busy! There was a young man, who I assume was the manager, walking around and keeping the place running smoothly. I imagine he runs a tight ship because the service just sailed along … Calm waters all around. FOOD: Being southern, this is the closest place I’ve found to give me the home cooked breakfast feel! Eggs, bacon, hash browns and endless coffee. Simple but GOOD. Their portions were also huge so come hungry. Overall this is a great breakfast brunch staple in the UES. I’ve never had their lunch or dinner but it did look appetizing.

Really nice place for brunch. Five of us came here on a relatively busy Sunday early afternoon brunch. They don’t take reservations so we all hung by the bar and entrance area. The bar was pretty packed, so a few of us stood by the entrance. Now, their entrance/foyer/lobby area is a bit weird. It’s super tight, not unusual for restaurants in the city, but they have a fake door set up. There’s a mini room where the hostess stands(with a counter and cashier) but it’s freezing. The wind and cold come straight through the main door and into this small room, which then comes into the restaurant because the door that leads into it doesn’t have a wall, really. It’s hard to explain, but it just makes no sense. Anyway, after about a 20min wait, we were seated. Our waitress came by with water and she was very energetic, upbeat, and friendly. The food here was fantastic and I’d recommend to the restaurant to revamp and refine their menu to make things look and sound more satisfying, especially because it really is! I got a coffee and ordered the mushroom pepper frittata, which was delicious! The biscuit it came with was also tasty and overall, a solid meal. The portions are a good size where you can eat the entire meal without feeling gluttonous. Overall a solid place with good service.

What we enjoyed: The broccoli and cheddar frittata with a side of hash and a buttermilk biscuit(brownie points!) and the egg white omelet with spinach and feta. Ambiance: Great place to grab lunch and absolutely dog friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating and enough space to accommodate a big group. Nice menu selection from breakfast to lunch. Come back again? Absolutely. Have got my eye on their mac and cheese…

Solid 3-star almost-diner for this swath of the UES, where the number of strollers is almost higher than the number of dog-poo piles lying around. The Barking Dog Cobb salad, with its tuft of alfalfa sprouts and generous handfuls of bacon, avocado, and bleu cheese, was unexpectedly delicious. Maybe I’ve just had one too many disappointing chopped salads or maybe I should resign myself to the fact that the tastiest salads are the ones loaded with cheeses and meats, but the salad was the unanimous winner at the table. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict, on the other hand — well, points to Barking Dog for keeping the dish simple, instead of adding pureed tomato or candied salmon roe, and for the two perfectly poached eggs(which I still have yet to master). But the English muffin base lost any initial crispiness and reverted into chewy, tasteless pucks. The best thing on that plate was the potato hash and, I mean, I’ll never say no to fried potatoes. To be honest, I’m not even sure why I ordered an eggs Benedict sauce, because hollandaise sauce reminds me of those crazy Betty Crocker creations of gelatin and mayo. Service wasn’t especially warm, though we did go at the tail end of crazy brunch rush, and I would have liked having utensils when we sat down. NEXTTIME: this seems like a comfortable, reliable, well-worn(and I say that in the most complimentary sense) weekend brunch spot for dog owners and dog lovers, but in the meantime, I think I’ll try to perfect the poached egg at home.
