Came here for a couple slices after not having eaten anything all day and having an emergency laundry session at The Mat II after the dryers at The Mat III were not working. Riveting story, no? Shall I tell it again? Anyway I had a broccoli slice and a chicken slice. Both were delicious. The place has really earned its B hygiene rating, as the dude handled my pizza directly after handling cash without batting an eye, but the pizza was tasty and just what I needed.

One of the other reviewers said Arturo’s is best understood as a throwback to the New York pizza places you knew in the 1980s and 1990s… and that’s right on target. This isn’t fancy, toppings aren’t trendy and if you’re looking for artisanal anything, go somewhere else. This is quality New York pizza made just the way it ought to be made– thin crust just crispy enough, tomato sauce that’s a little sweet and just the right amount of salty mozzarella. I’ll vouch for their insanely rich white pizza too. You can get«better» pizza elsewhere in the city, but if you want a slice on the UES that reminds you of what you grew up on, go here.

The pizza here is amazing. Very friendly staff, and you get your order at a quick pace. I have been eating pizza at this place for years. It has never let me down. I love the bacon pizza as well as the mushroom pizza. Keep up the good work guys!

Just moved to the ues and Arturos is down the corner from me. My sister in law brought a few pizza slices from there and oh goodness they were really delicious. Usually pizzas aren’t my favorite foods to eat, but this place I will go whenever I am hungry and on the go! Even if they have burnt bottoms on them just ask to make another slice people. Quit complaining, this place is still good.

I ordered 4 Chicken Parmesan dinners and two orders of garlic knots. My chicken was a bit burnt on the bottom. The tomato sauce was very spicy and not edible. It was not to my liking. The garlic knots were drenched in oil. I will not order from there again.

I ordered on Seamless. It was delivered on time, but that’s the only good thing I can say about this place. They put heavier items on top of the smaller sauce-filled containers so everything spilled out during delivery. The cheap containers were soaked in sauce and opened. Luckily they delivered a second order, but even those containers were soggy and leaking. It was a total mess. The spaghetti and sauce was average. The chicken parm was dry and seemed like it had been sitting out a while. The bread was stale. Eggplant parm was just okay. Definitely not getting delivery from this place ever again.

A good, overall, and well-priced plain slice. Good crust, good sauce, and not too greasy. Big fan of their meatballs as well($ 2.50 each, with sauce). Great for a quick meal on the run. Service is always quick, and never have to wait more than a few minutes from ordering to walking out. Great little neighborhood spot.

Pizza is the most decent in the area and staff is friendly enough. Great lunch deal, not so great garlic knots though!

NY’er my entire life(44years). Pizza doesn’t get better than this. Period. Order in mostly. Delivery in under 30 minutes… pizza is hot, well-done(when asked for) and pretty much perfect. Real NY pizza. No frills, just the pizza. Cannot speak to other menu items.

FOOD: A lot of the reviews here are not actually for Arturo’s Pizza, but Arturo’s Restaurant, so if you are reading them please be mindful of this if you hear about them«refilling water glasses» — that’s the RESTAURANT — this is the PIZZERIA! With that out of the way, the pizza here is not bad, but it’s…about average for what NY pizza used to be in the 1980s and 90s. It won’t immerse your tastebuds and take you back to the first time you ever ate a truly delicious slice, but you will take a bite and go, «That’s pretty damn good.» As recent years have shifted the focus to «Trendy» and«Toppings», Arturo’s now finds itself in the upper crust(pun intended) of UES pizza simply due to the fact the competition is so bad. While they lack the variety of some of the newfangled pizza joints, they do execute the basic slice well. If you appreciate good pizza cheese and can live with the tomato sauce being more muted than one might expect, you will like Arturo’s. It is worth a visit for sure. Depending on when you go, be attentive to the condition of the pizza you are ordering, as if it’s been low traffic for a while, topped slices like pepperoni may have been sitting around a while, which will degrade the experience for you. If you get a pie, it’s always fresh, and never disappoints. 4⁄5 SERVICE: I have always gotten good service at Arturo’s. No complaints. They see you, they take your order, they cook your pizza, they give it to you. They don’t disappear and forget about you. They don’t make you wait. If you need something extra(slice cut in half, or into small squares) they take care of it right away. There are credit card minimums, I can’t recall them, but if I’m going for pizza, I’m usually paying cash anyway. Cash Back Rewards ain’t that good anyway. 4⁄5 AMBIENCE: The ambience of Arturo’s can best be described as a throwback to what was the quintessential NY pizzeria in the 1980s and 1990s. Air conditioning was not a guarantee, the warmth of the ovens was bested only by the warmth of the summer outside, and sitting at a table sweltering — sipping an ice cold Coca Cola — while you waited for your slice to cool off just enough that you could bite into it was all part of the experience. I spent many a dog day afternoon here carrying roller hockey equipment, with nothing but the conversation of friends after we’d tired ourselves out or finished a game, and the hum of the exhaust fan in the background. It holds a certain nostalgic appeal, back to a time when everything wasn’t air conditioned, brightly lit, sterile, and boring, and people interacted with each other over pizza, and not over electronic gadgets. If you can’t understand that, you’ll probably find it a bit on the dingy side, but then you’re missing part of the experience. My only regret is wishing it was larger/there were more seats, since even back in the day it was always one of the smaller pizza joints. 4⁄5 PRICE/VALUE: The prices have gone up quite a bit in the past 25 years, as they have everywhere, but considering the neighborhood, the(lack of) quality of many of the alternatives, it will not hurt you to pay the toll to what is inevitably a little bit of a trip back in time in every way other than the price. This pizza is quite good. Go and experience it in the parlor for yourself. Seamless and Grubhub may be convenient, but you’re missing out if all you do is order delivery. I like my couch too, but sitting by yourself or with a friend at a table isn’t half as bad as you’d think. 3⁄5 SUMMARY: Not the greatest slice in the world, or even in the UES, but certainly up there. It’s a blast from the past in many ways, and certainly appreciated, and you will get good service. While they make a good slice, they act as though they are just doing their job(which of course, they are), not«spreading the word» about how amazing their product is, trying to put you on mailing lists or sign you up for events, bombing you with social media, or filling the air with condescension as many of the more obnoxious businesses seem to do these days. There is much to be appreciated here. 4⁄5

LOVE Arturo’s pizza! They don’t offer a huge variety of pies, but what they do, they do really well. I’ve tried plain, mushroom and pepperoni. The sauce is sweet and fresh and the cheese is salty and plentiful. If you’re looking for a quality slice, Arturo’s will definitely fit the bill.

I enjoyed the pizza it was wonderful. I did have a concern on a baked ziti that I reviewed on here and Joseph the owner right away took ownership to improve my experience. I’m happy about that :)

In comparison to other areas of New York City, Yorkville runs a little low on pizzerias, especially on York Ave. Arturo’s gets the job done, day in and day out… Arturo’s* is your local greasy pizza joint, emphasis on the grease(the grease is even on the ceilings, so don’t look up). It’s perfect for a late night romp(before midnight) or when you need a fairly cheap dinner. They do not offer too much variety, just expect your standard mushroom, pepperoni, or sausage slices. If you want to ensure freshness, make sure to order an entire pie… they are famous for any slice with a topping sitting around too long. Beyond that they are also famous for saying they are out of plain slices late a night, then when you about-face to leave, they pull another pie out from under the counter. I’m not sure what this tactic is about… perhaps it’s an after hours pie for the staff? Regardless, it’s bizarre. Their sauce is nice and comes directly from the restaurant across the street… tastes authentic and rarely disappoints. They also offer Gino’s Italian Ices in the warmer months, which if you grew up in the outer-boroughs as I did, trumps any new trendy dessert eatery… anywhere. Although I’ve had my stranger moments with the servers, and frustrating times with their credit card minimum, I always smile when I’m done shoveling down a slice from Arturo’s. *I do not believe they are affiliated with the downtown Houston Arturo’s.

I ordered a pizza from Arturo’s through Seamless on Saturday night. It arrived after 40 minutes burned on the bottom(I posted a picture). Of course it was chewy and hard but it was also lopsided in the box, the plastic tent used to keep the box from mushing the pizza was turned over and it was, that’s right, mushing the pizza(ironic). The taste was not very memorable either, very basic. Haven’t we perfected the art of making pizza in New York yet? In this town where so many do it well you’ve got to do better than mediocre. It’s got to be special and cooked properly. In my opinion the best pizza in the neighborhood right now is Numero 28 Pizzeria Napoletana on 1st Ave(between 75th St &74th St), and they are super fast. They aren’t on Seamless but they are worth picking it up. It’s on another level and not at all comparable to the pizza I ordered from Arturo’s. We all work hard and there are many ways we can choose to spend our money so why waste it on a burned sloppy pie when you can order from Numero 28 Pizzeria Napoletana and enjoy an airy delicious not greasy perfected pizza instead. If thats not your thing try Gotham Pizza, the crust is crispy and the taste is yummy. I don’t think burning the food and sending it out anyway is good business. Even if it wasn’t burned the flavors are not special. I would not recommend Arturo’s because of my experience and I certainly won’t be giving them another try when others are doing it better just right around the corner. I’m just saying.
