These guys are awesome. No card limit, free coffee with breakfast sandwiches, and they have single ensure bottles. For three dollars I get a great egg and cheese + coffee? Lovely.

I think this was the place that used to sell alpine Swiss subs with lettuce tomato and mayo. Bomb sandwiches. Real tasty. shredded lettuce like no other. Then it burned down around 2002 or 3? If this is the same spot I used to eat at back in 99 – 00 … and it’s still as good. then anybody who happens upon this random spot is in for a treat. Will be checking in next time I’m in NYC to see.

The best deli around!!! I stopped by after work for a quick hero sandwich– it was quick, easy, cheap and everyone was helpful and friendly. That’s hard to come by in nyc! I got a godfather sandwich, which was prepared with freshly slices roast beef behind the counter. It comes with a free can of soda or bottle of water and it’s only $ 7.50. I’m obsessed. The deli may look super old and you don’t really even see the food counter when you enter(it’s all the way in the back behind stuff), but it’s well worth it to stop in. The cashier was even personable. Very nice!

Bacon, Egg, and cheese on a roll…$ 3.50…and it was huge! I ate here every morning of my visit in NYC. The guys were super nice and the food delicious! Free coffee with a breakfast sandwich btw! :)

Bad service. The last 2 times times I went there, the young person behind the counter over charged me, and was laughing about it, when I confronted him. They also refused to deliver food 2 blocks away, when I called to place an order. This place needs to appreciate their customers more. I recommend going elsewhere.

Sandwiches are huge and for the right price. I can never ever go back to subways. I can eat a lot but cannot finish a hero sandwich in one sitting.

Their food is DELICIOUS and cheap for such a large portion(about $ 7). They serve up homemade lunch options — breaded fish, Mac & cheese, roasted chicken, pasta, mashed potatoes, etc. Great deli in general, amazing bacon egg & cheese on a roll for $ 3.75 :-)

I was looking for a good spot for a regular ham & cheese sandwich that didn’t use fancy NYC breads. Reviews were on fire for this place so I gave it a shot and I wasn’t disappointed. When I arrived the first thing I looked for was the cold cut slicer behind the deli, lo and behold there it was in all its glory. Now I knew for certain they sliced their meat fresh and that’s exactly what they did when I placed my order. My sandwich wasn’t as loaded with ham as I would have liked but the sandwich was really good and for the price I got a nice sandwich, snack of chips and even a can of soda. I’m definitely coming back to this spot. When you walk in it looks like your typical outer borough bodega but this is a little gem for some great priced take-out food.

It would appear that this deli has know concept of time. When an order was placed for eggs to be picked up promptly at 9:45am on 6÷29÷14, upon my arrival, no eggs were to be seen. It’s as though this deli exists in the space between your washing machine and your dryer; if you have them placed next to each other or stacked(this metaphor won’t apply if you have a single washer /dryer unit), where time failed to maintain its steady progressions. Needless to say I never received the eggs that were promised to me, and I, as well as the 150 other people counting on these eggs, were left to eat bacon from cups. Also, this deli has no more paper plates.

These guys failed to deliver eggs on time, compromised the Krompf Improv Breakfast at the 16th annual Del Close Marathon.

Selection was a tad overwhelming and I ended up going with the Honeymooners sandwich. They are quick, and yes, these sandwiches are huge and you get a free pop with it. I ended up eating this over 2 days. If you are hungry, I am sure you could eat all of it, but it is true… they don’t skimp. I didn’t see any veggie sandwiches though…

The wind was blowing, the snow was falling, the horns were blaring and my stomach was grumbling. Fortunately for me I happened to be right in front of Am & Al Deli. This is not a place that I would think many people I know would pick to eat. It is a quicky mart up front with a grill in the back. No place to sit, simply grab and go. Feeling adventurous I ordered the Godfather; a roast beef, provolone with Russian dressing on a soft roll. Boy was it delicious. The roast beef was juicy and the roll was grilled to perfection and, even though the dressing was no more than catsup and mayo I enjoyed it thoroughly. And did i mention it was HUGE?! It was. The next time I am in this neighborhood I will not hesitate to come back again.

During my three day visit to NYC, I went here twice. The first time was absolutely a 5 star experience, and the second was more of a 4 in my opinion, but the people I was with absolutely loved it! I had the New Yonker both times(others refer to it as the New Yorker, but it’s actually Yonker). I think the disappointment for me came in that it wasn’t consistent. The first time I got it, it was turkey, corned beef, swiss, and blue cheese dressing, toasted. The second time I got it, it was served cold and with lettuce and tomatoes. I liked it more hot, but I was also able to enjoy it right there and then and not have to wait until I got on my train back home. My friend had the Black and White both times and absolutely loved it, and my mother created her own Roast Beef sandwich. My mother is very picky about her RB, but she was able to see it in the case and she said it was perfectly rare and brought her back to her childhood. I will definitely get sandwiches again next time I’m in the area, but I’ll ask for mine toasted!

I’m inclined to agree with all of the other positive reviews below. This place couldn’t be more random. I wouldn’t ever think to walk in. I was sceptical of the 4.5 star rating on Unilocal, but I’m glad a buddy and I went for it. I had the Bön Appetit sandwich(chicken salad, muenster, lettuce, tomato, and brown mustard), and it was surprisingly flavorful. Great consistency with the chicken. The flavors all worked together beautifully. Not gourmet by any means, but a solid, classic approach to chicken salad. Best part? It was enormous and $ 5.95. Definitely going back.

After reading the good reviews, I decided to take the 15 minute walk from my office at lunch. There are tons of sandwich options, which actually confused me. I ended up going for the safe bet of tuna salad sandwich on wheat. The sandwich was very large and at only $ 4.75 I can’t complain. The two cooks are professional(as much as possible in a deli joint) and the store was relatively clean(which I didn’t expect). Next time I will have to try something different to justify the long walk over.

All of these 5 star Unilocal reviews for this place are dead on. This is a great example of a hidden old school NYC deli that serves up huge high quality sandwiches at low prices to the mostly local working people of the city. From the outside this place looks like an average nyc convenience store, but walk to the back of the store and you’ll find an amazing deli counter putting together some huge sandwiches of all sorts. I got the hot turkey with cheddar on a sweet sub-roll, and it was real good. My total was $ 6 for a huge sub sandwich and soda. For a food to money ratio, you cant beat this place.

I love this place! It’s right around the corner from FIT and has kept me from starvation. Their portions are incredibly generous and they have different, hot deli offerings everyday. Brisket — yum! Baked ham — juicy! Breakfast potatoes — flavorful and addictive! For $ 7 even, they stuff the container to the brim with a combination of whatever you want and throw in a can of soda and a butter roll. For me, it’s enough of 2 meals. The guy behind the deli can be a little grumpy at time, but I don’t mind — it’s kind of endearing.

BEST. SANDWICH. EVER. You can never go wrong with Am & Al(maybe clog your arteries though) These guys stuff so much meat in your sandwich that they have to use their weight to close the hero and wrap it as quickly as possible so it doesn’t explode. We always get«The Rooster» which is not even on their menu. For more details and photos check out my blog:
