I was looking for an authentic Italian hero for lunch and had really high hopes for Alidoro. The place itself has a likable hole-in-the-wall-ish vibe, with Italian décor. As for the food… I ordered the Pinocchio on Semolina bread. Ingredients were fresh and authentic, however the sandwich itself was too light. There was a big piece of bread… but they skimped on the fresh mozz, barely added peppers and only gave a couple of slices of prosciutto/sopressata. For $ 15(cash only and charged tax) I’d expect a much bigger, heavier hero. Next time I’m craving something like this in the area, I’ll take the longer walk over to Parisi Bakery.

Had the Brando this week and added onion on the Trasimizzo bread. It was amazing. Can’t remember how to spell the bread… say but it was great.

Sandwich is ok. But the owner is a total and complete b-tch! Clearly this is general consensus now that I read other reviews. Not only was she rude to me but she was SO rude to her own employees who seemed extremely disgruntled and abused. Get a grip lady– you own a sandwich shop you’re not a queen. Learn to treat people with respect. I’ll definitely go to your competition next time.

The LOVE I have for Italian food and the culture is no secret… First of all, I almost cried walking out the shop thinking I just got ripped off because the bag was so light for a $ 13 sandwich. However, they delivered on quality! I had the Alyssa it was really good… smoked chicken breast, fresh mozz, arugula and dressing. Don’t expect smiling faces here… Would I go back? Yes, but on someone else’s dime lol I added an additional star for the décor :)

Di caprio — prosciutto, hot and sweet peppers, mushroom paste, arugula, hot spicy spread and fennel. Holy crap, this place is delicious. The bread was soft and tasty. Prosciutto perfectly cut. Hot spicy spread was tangy enough you wanted to soak up what dripped off. Every sandwich i now eat will be compared to this. Thank you

Are the sandwiches really good, fresh Italian sandwiches? Definitely! Are they the absolute best is the city, debatable. Some flavors over power others in some of the sandwiches, and the bread is slightly to tough. But that being said everything is always fresh and tasty, and keeps me going back for more!

No nonsense place. Reading all the Unilocal reviews made us more nervous than we needed to. As long as you know what you want, you should be fine on the line. The problem is choosing from the great list. Ordered the Brando(smoked chicken breast, provolone, sweet roasted peppers, arugula) and Lucia(prosciutto, smoked mozzarella and sweet roasted peppers). The Brando was soooooo good. Simple. Fresh. Delicious.

Every sandwich I’ve ever had here is fantastic. Sad to say they’re not worth the abuse you get from the female cashier AND the hefty price. I’d be fine with one or the other, but both are just too much.

I can’t lie… I really do enjoy the sandwiches here, haven’t had a bad one yet. But damn… the female cashier is ice cold. She is genuinely just an unpleasant soul.

Place is OK. Was expecting something like Faicco’s but it’s not in the same ballpark. The bread is really good but the rest of the sandwich is underwhelming. Small portion, mozzarella not as fresh, meats were just good. Very expensive for what you get.

This is everything that makes Italian food wonderful — simple ingredients in perfect combinations. The shop itself is the embodiment of your favorite curmugeon — sarcastic flyers asking that you dont ask them what their favorite sandwich is, a list of things they dont sell(including coffee), signs asking you to make decisions before you stand in line, etc. Cash only. We come back all the time and are always delighted.

I grew up in an Italian house hold– and this would be nonna approved! The sandwiches are so delicious, you’ll miss them, from the bread to the meat it’s so fresh and tastes so good! My favorite is «the Matthew» try it for yourself!

What the fuck is the big deal? Got Pinocchio on sfilatino bread. Came out to $ 15.24, so I’m expecting a damn good sandwich. Nope. The bread was beyond hard and chewy. single layers of prosciutto and soppressata. Some bites were good with the fresh moz, imported meat(albeit single-layered) and non-hard bread, but overall was a pretty dreadful experience, especially since they call this sandwich maker the«maestro» of sandwich making. Should’ve trusted my gut and gone to Parisi or Ba’al

Don’t see what’s so special about his place. The sandwiches were decent, I had the Marina. Bread was too hard and the meat and flavor was only decent at best. The service isn’t great and the restaurant is tiny. Won’t be coming back.

I almost missed this place last Thursday. I usually walked down Sullivan until I see a place with a line out the door. Today was different, though. I had a plan. That plan was getting lunch at 11:30 before the line showed up, then high-tailing it back to the office and enjoying that heavenly, delicate balance of salami and olive tapenade over some video games at the office. I approached the counter — just one person there ahead of me, and he had already ordered. Nobody working the counter so much as glanced at me. That’s how they do it here. When it’s your turn, they grunt«whattya havin.» Then when it’s almost done, they grunt«fourteen seventy, sofia with a drink.» If you don’t acknowledge, they grunt again, kinda pissed off«fourteen seventy, sofia *with a drink.*» Not today though. A few minutes go by before I notice all of the white bags behind the counter. This khaki-wearing mouthbreather ahead of me had ordered TEN sandwiches. He probably walked around the entire Best Buy or wherever he works, just so he could chat up the one cute cashier(who obviously has a boyfriend, wake the eff up). This isn’t Subway. They don’t just slap these things together. These sandwiches are the product of craftsmanship. They take *a while to make.* Anyways, I sat there for 35 minutes while they made his ten sandwiches. Then I paid for my sandwich the first time they asked. By the time I got back to my office, I had no time for video games… but I was eating the best sandwich I’ve had in soho, so I wasn’t even mad.

Got the Pinocchio for lunch. It was a decent sandwich and all the ingredients were very fresh, from the bread to the prosciutto to the mozzarella. A tasty sandwich indeed. On the downside, the female cashier/owner was being a real douche and acting very patronizing and arrogant. They don’t let you create your own sandwich and they don’t have pepperoni. An Italian sandwich shop without pepperoni? Really? Maybe that’s just they’re style, and from reading the glowing reviews, I can tell that a lot of people don’t mind. Not me, I don’t play that game. Top off the rude attitude with exorbitant prices(my sandwich came to $ 15.24 including tax) and I’m sure to never come back or recommend this place to anyone else. There’s simply too many good lunch options in Soho to put up with this kind of abuse.

Huge delicious Italian sandwiches! This place is small and sometimes has a little line since its is only two workers but they have a huge selection and great ingredients. It’s not fancy but the freshly sliced meat and big baguettes are spot on. I couldn’t finish a whole sandwich(priced between 9 – 13 dollars) by my fiancé finished his. Guys worked fast and seriously so many options we will be back!

If I was ever given a chance to star on The Best Thing I Ever Ate: Sandwiches episode, I would go on and on about Alidoro. I ordered the Marco Polo(fresh mozzarella, hot peppers and arugula). I’m not a fan of the ciabatta because it’s on the harder side. I prefer soft bread, and my colleague suggested to have the Marco Polo on focaccia. Now, these people are serious about their sandwiches, and I was hesitant to ask for focaccia(I didn’t want to be yelled at about no customizing!) But I did, and there were no issues whatsoever, so that’s a plus. All the ingredients were fresh — including the bread. I also loved the vinaigrette that was added to the sandwich too. Unlike some other reviewers, I felt like the amount of mozzarella used(at least in my sandwich) is just enough. Maybe it depends on how many ingredients are in the sandwich? Either way, its much more filling and delicious than any sandwich from Subway!

A solid spot for a good sandwich. The sandwiches are huge and orders come out pretty quick. Be prepared to fork over at least $ 13 for a sandwich, which is a bit on the pricey side. Service has a lot to be desired and if you go too late, they run out of the standard white hero. I had the Donatella, which is prosciutto with mozzarella cheese and dressing. The dressing is pretty much olive oil with balsamic vinegar. It’s really good and just the way I like my sandwiches — no roasted peppers or extra veggies to block the taste of mozzarella and prosciutto.

After walking past this place on my way to work for several years with lines always coming out the door i figured today I would try it. Ordered the verdi. Pros: fast turnaround. Tasty ingredients. Cons: out of regular bread so i had to pay 1 $ extra for bread anyway. Maximum veggies but minimal mushroom pâté. Tasty sandwich and good quality ingredients… But $ 14.94 is too much for a sandwich. I will not be returning.
