Alibi Nyc Salon

We went into this salon for my daughter who was on a Make-​a-​Wish trip in NY. She wanted a blowout for a photoshoot. This salon was so accommodating and friendly. Thankful for them and making my baby look like a little model!!!

Went for a haircut with Holly and I wanted a specific length and thickness and tried reiterating multiple times and I did NOT a lot taken off and thinned out but she did not listen. I do not mind paying for a trim and having to come back sooner than later but my request was not followed and I highly disappointed. It was a nice style and cut but not was I wanted and a total change from what I had and wanted. Hence the reason why I was very specific. Since she did what she wanted and did not listen, I will never go back.

Have been going to Koby since I moved to New York. Best haircut I have ever had. Have recommended everyone I know to the salon, all of which have left extremely satisfied. Good music, great service.

I went here yesterday for color by Amanda May. I saw an article she contributed to in InStyle about hair strobing. I have never gotten balayage but wanted to try something new. I was extremely impressed with her and the salon as a whole.
Since it was my first time with her and getting balayage. Before she began she explained the difference using foil and balayage and what I could expect. She wanted me to know that it would have a different look. She took the time to look at my hair and even shape face and eye color to figure out what she thought would look best. When asking if I wanted a half or full, she didn’t try to up-​sell me. She told me what she honestly thought. It was a very relaxing experience and it turned out fabulous!!!
The salon itself has a very sophisticated but laid back vibe — they had fresh homemade tea, mimosas, water, etc. They also give hand massages during your blow out! I will definitely be back!!!

UPDATE — Wanted to check in after my 1^st cut+color touch up. Appointment was 2 weeks ago and cut and color are very much in tact and growing out nicely. Amanda May reevaluated my grown out, heavy locks — kept the length (long layers) and added plenty of movement. She added very thin, faceframing highlights. This allows me to let all grow out gradually, with the newer color focusing at the front. Love this girl!

Brett Calkins!
This guy took me from being a long haired brunette to a short blonde pixie! He maintained my new look and kept it fresh for over 3-​years.
He has a great eye for the best look that suits your style and is always up to date with the latest hair trends.

Where to start with Brett Calkins… he’s an amazing hairdresser that is missed sorely in Dallas! I am very picky with my uncooperative hair, however I always left his chair extremely satisfied even weeks later. From the moment he takes you back to his station he is professional, attentive, and really listens to what you want. He makes a point to develop a relationship with his clients which is why he was able to realize my want for a shorter haircut was on impulse, which I continue to thank him for. Next time I am in NYC I will make sure paying a visit to Brett is on my agenda!

Brett Calkins, a new addition to Alibi, is a FANTASTIC hair cutter! He recently left Dallas for The Big Apple and will be sorely missed! He gave me be the best haircuts I have ever gotten. Brett is very precise and really takes his time in talking to you about what you want and doing his work, which results in a great looking haircut! And to top it off, Brett is cool, but not so cool that you don’t know what to talk about!

I found Perry. C when l first moved to New York 2 years ago and I’ve been going ever since. He does a great job with color & cut. He is very friendly and understands what I’m looking for, even with my terrible attempts at describing what I have in mind.

Awesome hair salon with great people! It’s been a pleasure to meet Koby Ben in person. Now I’ve got an amazing haircut.
I do recommend this place to everyone who really cares about their hair and style!

Best haircut of my life! I can’t get over how great my hair looks and how wonderful my experience was with Icie. She asked me what I wanted which was a simple long haircut with visible layers and she certainly delivered. I often ask for layers at other salons and am given long layers which i can’t see and which quickly grow out. From start to finish, the experience was above and beyond.
She used great products on my hair, washed and massaged my scalp, and was very focused and precise with her technique. I have typical long hair and am not very particular with my haircuts but this one stood out for sure. After several washes since my haircut, It still looks great even without the beautiful blowout she gave me to compliment my cut.
I have since raved about my haircut to everyone i know, regardless of whether they compliment me on it or not, and have already referred my cousin. While at the salon, i got the impression that all of the stylists deliver great services, but Icie comes highly recommended!

Let me start by saying iam SOOOOO damn picky about my hair. When i first met Koby, i was impressed of his knowledge and his bright ideas. He totalllyyy convinced me (iam stubborn) of everything he recommended for my hair. I can literlly say he is a hair Guru. I live in Canada and whn i knew i am gona visit NYC, i searched online and i was impressed with Koby’s work. He is SO DAMN PROFFESIONAL. He even recommended me a hair color which i totally would love to do it next time i visit NYC. More over, he recommended me a hair oil which i TOTALLY LOVE to nourish my dry hair. I will DEFINATLY return to him and i will not let anyone touch my hair in canada.

Love Alibi! I’ve been going to Lindsay for 4 years and she is simply AMAZING. I insisted my mom go following my first time and she’s been hooked ever since! I couldn’t imagine trusting anyone else to cut my hair. She’s extremely talented and knows exactly how to create a stylish look that fits you perfectly. Thank you Lindsay for always helping me look my best!

I went through Salon Apprentice to find a complimentary haircut and I got one from Icie, but there were also other students practicing on models when I went. Obviously I cannot comment on the full service (sounds like they give complimentary drinks!) because mine was a learning session and actually took a long time.
This was my first time being a hair model for anyone and I was pretty nervous. The teacher was always there to double check and my haircut (long bob) turned out wonderfully!
I would come back for an actual haircut, but the prices are a bit steep and I’ve always gone to a place in the LES that is much cheaper, but I must say I’m really impressed with my free haircut and the overall salon.

Hey! I had a great experience here! I like the location, just the right amount of energy and tone. Roe (Rocia) cut my hair and was really good about confirming she was clear in our shared communication of the desired outcome and the plan of action to get there. I was still growing out my former bob and she really corrected the weirdness that was leftover from growth! Friendly, but not too chatty, we had a nice massage in the hair washing station with great smelling product, an efficient, but thorough cut time, and a great blow dry. They also have a nice oil that is created/​produced and marketed in house by the owner. I feel really confident with the style and love my hair cut! THANKS!!!

The staff at Alibi is absolutely amazing! From the owner, Koby, who is a true artist, to the stylists, to the shampoo girls, everyone loves what they do, and takes pride in their work.
I went in for a mini makeover. I have had long, straight hair for a few years, and knew it was time for a change. I wanted to go for the super modern mid-​length cut that’s totally on trend right now. I searched all over Manhattan for the right salon to help me look like a super model. And I am so glad I found Alibi! Thank you Koby and Amanda! Can’t wait to come back from Hawaii and see you again. Aloha!

Koby has cut my hair for about 10 years and I have been complemented on my hair almost every single day since. I have followed him around NYC to countless salons before his own, Alibi Salon. I have since moved from NYC and still take the trip into the city to get my hair done. Not only do you get a great cut but an amazing shampoo, head massive, hand and arm massage while getting your hair cut. Oh and you get a memossa, espresso, cappuccino or wine? Such a great mini getaway :-)

Wow I can’t believe that it was 4 years ago that I first wrote a review for this place. It’s just as awesome as I remember it. The staff continues to be incredibly friendly and the stylists are all great. My gurl4lyfe is definitely Kelly who is only there a few days every month, but Melinda has done my hair for an important event and her styling was impeccable. It was so good that when I took it out that night and slept on it, it still looked like I had just gotten a blowout and was able to wear it the next day! Two hairstyles one price!
If you are looking for that salon to call home, I would definitely recommend Alibi. I’ve recommended this salon to many of my friends and they have all loved it too.

**LADIES IF YOU HAVE REALLY CURLY HAIR, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!**
I was really excited to get my hair done at Alibi Salon for the first time for my birthday. Although, i was a little worried about them handling curly hair. Prior to making the appointment i mentioned to the front desk if this is something they can do and she said yes.
I was hoping in getting a ligher base color with partial highlights but the stylist only gave me color based on his opinion of my hair.
However, i knew from the moment he was waving the blower my hair was not going to come out straight because of the big pieces he was blowing out instead of small pieces.
I went into Alibi with the intentions of having fabulous hair and returning to get my hair done for Mercedes Benz Fashion week in the next few days but i will not return or recommend anyone there.
I ended paying for my hair that I was not really happy with at all and did my hair the next day at another salon who can handle curly hair.

I live in Spain and haven’t had a decent haircut for years — in fact I started cutting it myself because the stylists are just that bad. Even the Frenchies who cross the border to live here are mediocre in their craft. So I looked for the best place in NY to have my haircut before my last visit, and am soooo happy I found Alibi.
Nico listened to my hair story, looked at the ideas I brought and recommended what would and would not work with my face shape. He took his time and explained what and why he was doing everything, checking in with me every step of the way. At one point, I didn’t really like the look I was getting with the fringe (it was too long and I didn’t like how it was falling) so he changed the shape and shortened it, and it totally transformed my look! He ALSO colored my hair and it is EXACTLY the right color. This was nearly a month ago and I am still receiving compliments on my new look. What’s more, he had a long term plan for my look and gave me notes to share with a stylist should I need a trim in Europe.
There is no doubt that I will be back to see Nico at Alibi!
