The food here is excellent but they lose a star for service. Had a cheddar, bacon, spinach & mushroom omelette with the potatoes. The potatoes were to die for! Also had the waffles, which were also excellent! My son had the breakfast buffet and loved it! Pity they only have one waiter who seemed overwhelmed and was not very attentive. Would definitely go back though.

We told multiple Hilton people that we wanted brunch at their place. Their website said they have brunch but at the end they did not and no one corrected us. Ok fine lunch it is! Bread came out cold and after our appetizer and lunch. Wait staff didn’t know what was oregano and didn’t even bother to ask someone else when we asked for some for our pizza. The food was good though. Pizza was delicious! Salad was simple and good. Service was not the best. Their knowledge of their menu was absolutely rubbish.

Came here for lunch during restaurant week. Food was excellent and portions were surprisingly large. Great place to come for lunch with a client or some friends if your looking for casual dining in a nice atmosphere with a decent view of midtown. The view isn’t that breathtaking since it’s only on the fifth floor of the hilton which they consider to be the lobby of the hotel. Service could of been faster. We needed to tell waiter twice we were in a rush and still ended up taking around 50 minutes for all of the food to come out.

Went here years ago and it was lively, fresh, great food, great atmosphere. This last Saturday I made a reservation and was shocked when I walked in pre-theater on a Saturday nite. So depressing looking no one there utterly forlorn — didn’t even bother to use my reservation. Still shows up in New York Magazine recommended list which is itself shocking. Would never walk in here again.

Food was terrible, service fair. Asked for burger medium and it came out well-done. Pizza was awful even my young kids wouldn’t eat it. My son’s meal came out 10 minutes before the rest of us and our waiter didn’t even know. Salad drenched in dressing. French fries good tho. Only upside is location. Located on 42nd street but on the 22nd floor of Hilton. I would definitely go to the bar there but would not eat there again…

Nothing good or bad about this place except that their portions are huge and they have pretty good fries.

I think the current ratings for this place on Unilocal under-value the place. Obviously it depends on what you’re looking for. The reason I like it, is it’s one of the few places in this area that is suitable for taking a client for a casual but nice lunch. Lunch menu is not huge, but it is tasty — salads, sandwiches, pizza, etc. Food quality is good and beautifully presented in tasteful table settings. Nice high floor views — nothing spectacular, but nice. And it’s bright and relatively quiet, compared to Times Square below. If you’re bringing the kids, or in a tourist group, then there’s an Appleby’s, Chevy’s and McDonalds all right on the same block, those may be a better call for you. But if you’re looking to take a date or a client to lunch — this is a wonderful call that I’ll think you’ll be happy with!

No love from me for Above. I went to Above for Restaurant Week and I was not impressed. The Restaurant Week menu in itself was fine to adequate. For an appetizer, I had the Italian Veggies and Mozzerella Sticks, which should have been renamed,“Our sloppy version of spring rolls with mozzerella cheese!” Okay, I’m a sport. I went with it and it was all right. My main course was the Above Monte Cristo — their take on the sandwich — which seems to involve a lot of deep frying and not so much cheese with shoestring sweet potato fries which would have been good, had they been served hot. Dessert was the crème brûlée with raspberries. I had three halves of a berry — so I guess I had 1.5 berries. It was tooth-rotting sweet. And cold. Ewww. Service is extremely slow, which is a poor way to do things at lunch. We had to wait a long time to be served and there was only one other table occupied! The room is beautiful and it would make an excellent place to have a drink and catch up with some friends(as long as you weren’t facing the check in desk for the hotel). You would never know this restaurant was in the Hilton. In fact, you’d never know there was a Hilton on that block unless you were looling at it. The restaurant was clean enough and our view was the giant hand on top of the Madam Toussaud’s building. Yippee. I will say though, it makes an excellent place to keep in mind for another place on Times Square that has a clean bathroom.

I coordinated my first Unilocal-together here during restaurant week. It ended up being only myself and Steven C. Perhaps my next event will attract more Unilocalers. So I drive to the Staten Island side of the ferry, pay for parking and after I get off the big yellow-orange boat I take the 1 train to midtown– 42nd street, my favorite place in Manhattan. Since I am always here one would imagine I would know right where this restaurant/hotel was. I did not. I called the number to «Above» which is located 20 somewhat stories above street level in the Hilton Hotel in to get the exact location. The host told me it was located across from applebees yet it was right next door. I found the place after asking a few police officers for directions several minutes later. I met my party and discussed with him what wines would be appropriate with the courses from the menu i decided to order. He is a chef so his opinion mattered. I had a glass of Chardonnay and my appetizer I ordered the French four onion soup. Then for my main course I had a vegetable lasagna in a white truffle sauce. For dessert I chose the cheesecake with berries. Everything was absolutely delicious. 3STARS(when it should have been 5) FORTHEFOLLOWINGREASONS A) It took me 10 minutes after I got off the subway to find the place when it should have taken me only 2. B) The wait staff served us our entrees when we were still eating our appetizers.(Hello! Have you heard of waiting until we finished our first course?) C) After we were done eating we were engaged in conversation for quite some time. Then I saw something that would have had this place shut down had a health inspector been there. Yup, you guessed it, a mouse! A tiny speedy rodent running back and forth across the floor mainly hiding in the shadows.

You may walk right by The Hilton in Times Square if you didn’t know it was there as I did when I was looking for the restaurant«Above». I had made plans for a gathering of «yelpers» to try this midtown, sky high location. The room is large and is shared with the bar; not much activity for a Monday night. I found the host stand and waited for a few minutes before I was noticed and approached. The host was pleasant but not very engaging and sat me at my table. I was early and looked through a nice menu. Nothing here is «eclectic» or «crazy fusion» but the flavors are familiar fare for most restaurants. The rest of the party arrived and we discussed the food choices we made: onion soup, vegetable lasagna and cheesecake hers, grilled calamari, skirt steak and«21 Layer» cake mine. We ordered a glass of white and a glass of red from the reasonable wine list and started our review. All of the food was seasoned well, cooked to our liking and served artistically; I was surprised by the quality of the service ware and the presentation. Our service was good and the staff tried to please our needs. I had one complaint: our entrees were served right in the middle of our appetizers. OK, mistakes happen but the staff stood there and looked puzzled as to what to do with our food because we were not even close to being finished with the first course; hello, take it back to the kitchen and hold it or re-plate it when we are done with the appetizers! The food was good otherwise and I had no other complaints. An average value, «Above» found me satisfied with the food and wine. The staff was very nice and did ask if they could do anything for us. I would say more of a convenience than a destination, this restaurant serves a good experience.

I’ve never really thought of this place as a destination; it’s more of a classy pit-stop before doing whatever you plan on doing in Times Square. The food is unremarkable, but the service has always been top notch. The view however is impressive and helps to lend an airy mood to the evening. A good starting spot to have some food or drinks before catching a show.

We dined here because we were staying at the hotel and had the free breakfast coupons. It’s very pleasant and there’s a buffet with all the standards(meats, yogurt, eggs, frittata, etc). Calm and peaceful compared the hubub of Times Square below.

Huh? I’m not understanding why I’d be the first one to review this place. This is one place that I’d say has one of the better views of Manhattan. It’s located on the 21st floor of the Times Square Hilton; Its central location makes it so that you can see the craziness of Times Square all around — and yet, it is dark, sultry and gracefully quiet inside. It’s definitely one of the more romantic places to dine with a view. I didn’t stay at the Hilton, but went to the restaurant for a Valentines day dinner. I’d highly recommend the place. The food is of expected quality, but nothing extraordinary. Even if you don’t feel like spending $$$ on the food, sit at the bar or in the lounge area to enjoy the feel of Times Square on mute. I promise you, it’s quite a fascinating new perspective.
