A Fishman & Son Diamonds

I know a «guy» in the Diamond District, his name is Josh Fishman. Let’s face it, what is the most important thing when buying something very expensive that you do not have too much knowledge about? Trust. I trust him to steer me in the right direction, to get me the best price and to treat me like family.

First, let me start by saying that this review is long overdue. Around March of last year, I found myself ready and willing to take the plunge into marriage. After finding the right girl, all I needed was the right ring. I was, however, hesitant; the ring was going to be my largest purchase to date. Like any prudent consumer, I wanted to be educated. No one likes getting ripped off. I was determined that I would learn all that was required so that I would get the best ring I could for my lady, who deserves it for putting up with me for nearly 8 years. So I read all I could about the 4Cs. I soon realized, though, that the 4Cs are just the beginning of the journey, not the end. But where would I turn and whom could I trust? Eventually, I came across the A. Fishman & Son Ultimate Diamond Education Video Series. It taught me everything that I needed to know about diamonds, including the cheap parlor tricks that other businesses use to separate you from your heard earned money. I watched every video, took notes, and declared myself A. Fishman & Son’s «Summa Cum Laude» Graduate, the first in the company’s 67 (now 68) year history. What was the most important lesson I learned? To purchase a diamond from an expert diamantaire, who knows what a diamond should look like, not just from a certificate but from the diamond itself. And that, my friends, is Josh. He is the epitome of class. He is the rare person who truly loves his job and who wants you to be happy with your purchase. My fiancé loves her ring and always receives compliments. Another jeweler examined the ring and thought it was a grade higher (SI1 instead of SI2). He even called it a «lucky» stone. I wholeheartedly recommend Josh Fishman to the single men and women who are looking to purchase an engagement ring. He is the only person I would trust my money with when it comes to purchasing an item of this magnitude. And friends, believe me, there are not a lot of people I trust my money with.

Josh helped me find a loose diamond for an engagement ring. He is as clear and transparent as a person can be. I am naturally a reluctant and difficult consumer and everything he told be checked out. He is very trustworthy, which is difficult to earn from me. Oh, and the diamond is absolutely beautiful, he has a very fine selected inventory. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

Josh is unbelievably knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating. Before going to see him we were working with a different jeweler and we were just not thrilled with her selection. We decided to keep looking and found Josh’s website and made an appointment. We could tell the difference right away when we walked into his office. Everything was brightly lit so we could see exactly what we were looking at (the other jeweler had moody lighting in the store and it was hard to get a good look at the stones!). He really listened to what we wanted to see and gave us a great selection of stones to look at. He showed us the inside of each stone with a loupe and explained everything so that we knew what we were looking at.
We both had the impression, right away, that he just wanted us to be happy with the purchase and that he wanted it to be 100% right for us. Absolutely everything he showed us took my breath away, which also made me realize that a really beautiful diamond does not have to be huge, if just needs to be the proper cut, color, and clarity to be balanced and beautiful. My boyfriend and I were thrilled with his selection. Josh knows diamonds and will not show you one that he is not proud of, not matter your price range.
He is a «no-​pressure» guy who is extremely professional. After a few meetings with Josh we felt confident that we were getting a superior diamond for a very fair price.
We will certainly be going back to Josh for any future diamond purchases!

Josh helped my fiancé design the most perfect engagement ring for me. It is absolutely stunning, and I understand the process was smooth & the price very fair. Recently I visited him to get the ring re-​sized, and he was beyond helpful & professional. If we ever need another diamond, we’ll go to Josh without a doubt. No way around it, buying a diamond is stress-​inducing. How do you really know what you’re getting and if you’re paying a fair price. After a little research, I decided I’d do better buying a loose stone and having it set by a great shop I love (Little King, on Lafayette Street) that does beautiful setting work but doesn’t really carry a wide variety of diamonds. I stumbled on Josh’s place after a bit of web searching. He took the time to learn about my preferences (and my budget), educate me on the variations in diamonds, talk about the kinds of things he won’t sell (like diamonds cut to look big but with poor proportions), and show me a range of stones — all without any pressure to buy. His website is excellent for allowing to preview the stones he has in stock and play around with trade-​offs in terms of clarity, color, weight, prices, etc. I love my the diamond I bought. More importantly, my wife loves it. And I’d go back here in a second. (An added bonus is the historical material Josh has on display around the shop — dating back to when his grandfather (great-​grandfather?) opened the business.) My only regret is that I bought the stone over a year ago, and it took me this long to get around to writing this review.
