Love this place. Simple menu but all the veggie options I’ve had have been delicious. At $ 25, the prix fixe is a great deal. The décor is very simple yet tasteful; it’s a cozy, intimate space. They don’t blast you with music. Customer service is great; really like their policy of byob with no corkage fees. Would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a quiet chill spot, for taking your significant other out for a nice meal, when your parents are in town, or any other time you want a tasty meal in classy surroundings. Two thumbs up.

Amazing prices! For $ 25, you’ll get a very nice dinner. I would suggest making a reservation as the place is small and only has around 8 – 9 tables. As far the menu goes, it has an interesting combination of vegetarian as well as meat dishes. My favorite would be escargots. Very rich and tasty.

It was amazing. The food was sooo good. The Hass avocado was unique and delicious. The lamb merguez was in the tastiest broth ever. It was BYOB and no corkage. We definitely plan on going back

Small space but big flavors. Not an extensive menu but good variety and good prices. Very good service. Would go back. Definitely try the avocado appetizer and don’t forget to use the bread to get every drop of the juice. Goes well with the escargot.

They cancelled our reservation the day of the reservation because they«overbooked.» Ruined our plans. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. Not recommended. Will never patronize this place again.

I booked dinner with my girlfriend for Valentines here as they weren’t gouging like every other restaurant. It’s also BYOB which is a huge plus. Service was slow as the staff is minimal but that’s excusable with a restaurant like this. For apps I got the mousse truffee and my girlfriend got the grilled avocado. The truffee was delicious and very rich, I had a bit of the avocado and enjoyed it but my girlfriend seemed to really love it. For our mains we got the merguez sausage and the duck leg. Both were very good, the curry with the sausage was a bit too rich and I’m glad my girlfriend had it because I definitely couldn’t eat an entire entrée that rich. I devoured the duck leg and thoroughly enjoyed it, it wasn’t too spicy, was fairly tender, and had a good flavor. They’re not using top quality ingredients and the menu is quite limited, for for $ 25 for an app and an entrée it’s quite a deal, especially on Valentines.

This restaurant is just perfect: cozy, calm ambiance, reasonably priced & absolutely delicious food, free BYOB — my favorite restaurant in the area! I tried the duck and the pears, and loved them!

TLDR: Stay away from here if you’re looking for good food. Go if you’re looking to drink with friends in a cozy spot and comfortable paying $ 20+ for a meal of microwaved grease. The food is disgusting. Trying to play it safe, I ordered French classics, the escargot and duck leg confit. The escargot was sitting in pools of grease and more importantly NOT fresh. The overcooked duck leg wasn’t fresh either, but that’s forgivable for a confit. The real offense was drenching it in an overly heavy and greasy sauce, with a pitiful side of dry couscous. On my way to the bathroom, I saw that they have NOKITCHEN and just a microwave, which totally explains the abundance of grease and lack of finesse in their food. Had I known that they only serve microwaved«meals» for $ 25, I would never have gone. I’d rather eat leftovers at home, same quality for half the price and trouble. Moving past the food, this place is also understaffed, with only one waiter serving quite a few tables. The waiter was good, but getting his attention was sometimes difficult. Ambience was quiet and intimate. I’m guessing this place’s main selling point is the BYOB zero corkage fee. In conclusion, I just don’t understand how a café that serves microwaved food can average 4 stars from 200+ reviews. Perhaps this place used to be amazing and they’ve gotten lazy over time. I would say this café would be better off as a bar or coffee shop, but even those places put more effort into the quality of their food and drink. Visited on a Friday for dinner, and never going back.

Cute little place tucked away uptown. Came by last Friday for my birthday. It was absolutely lovely. Excellent choice for a BYOB dinner in a very cozy place. The wine glasses are large, which encourages drinking so it will also encourage regrets if you forget to bring booze. haha I was late although, I was the first one there for a reservation for 5. I went in and awkwardly stood by the entrance looking for a hostess lol There is one server and someone working in the tiny kitchen. The server was very accommodating, patient and busy. The service was excellent. The restaurant was full. The pre-fix ends at 8 but he took our orders in, which is highly appreciated. $ 25 for an appetizer and a an entrée. Food was excellent. We shared everything. For the entrees we had the duck leg confit & the lamb merguez sausages. The duck confit is delicious and cooked to perfection! I would definitely order that again. The pheasant pâté was definitely the best appetizer — loved the brie and pâté combination. I ordered the escargot and the jerk seasoning was interestingly delicious. We were confused about the grilled avocado — but inhaled it regardless. Great place in a weird location. Awesome food and service.

Escargot is phenomenal! I have never experienced such great fusion of French and Caribbean flavor. I had the lamb sausage with coconut sauce and it was to die for! My friends said the duck confit was decadent and seasoned perfectly. My vegetarian friend loved the mushroom and tofu dish as well. And the BYOB is the cherry on top

4.5 stars hands down. A couple of weeks ago my fiancé threw a surprise birthday party for me here, and everything was awesome. The place is small, so a reservation — especially on weekend evenings — is essential. The service is outstanding, and the food — the result of a highly skilled and wonderfully organized one-man show — is terrific. In addition, you simply cannot beat their $ 25 price fix from 6−8pm, and their no-corkage fee BYOB policy. The few slight imperfections in a couple of dishes were fully out shadowed by the whole experience, which was unforgettable. There were a dozen people at our table, so I had the opportunity to taste quite a few dishes, all well prepared and beautifully presented. Some were flat out fantastic. Pheasant pâté’: very original, and very good; a sizable portion of an exotic concoction of flavors. Get it. Grilled avocado: tasty; definitely a great choice for vegans. Escargots: as good as they get; loved them. Chicken liver mousse truffee’: first, I wasn’t so hot about ordering this appetizer, but it caught my attention; it was absolutely delicious! I kept asking for more bread(also delicious) to spread it. Duck leg confit: tender, rich, juicy, sizable… a great duck in a great sauce; however, I think the dish could have come with more flavorful sides… something that would have better complemented the meat, instead of disappearing in the sauce. Chicken breast: another great option for birds lovers; nevertheless, same issue with the above dish… I know, these sauces are very delicate, so you can’t mix them with strong flavors… but I still think they should be combined with more interesting sides. Lamb sausages: I liked the sauce, but was overwhelmed by the richness of the flavor of the sausages; I love lamb, but wouldn’t have been able to finish both sausages. Shrimp sauté’: I only tasted a small piece, but enjoyed every bit of it; very delicate and mouthwatering. Seitan«meatloaf»: I’m usually not a fan of vegan«meatless» options, but this«meatloaf» was yummy. Overall, I had a memorable time, here. They even allowed us to bring our own birthday cake, which added to their professionalism and kindness. Yes, I’m definitely a fan, and will soon be back for more! :-)

Decided to try this place after my sister heard about it from a coworker. We were the first customers which meant getting out food without a long wait. We had the $ 25 prefix dinner. We had Scottish pheasant pâté and escargot for appetizer. Entrée was grilled shrimp in coconut sauce and duck confit. We ended with triple chocolate mousse and cappuccino. It’s a small café but definitely worth going back. Just remember to BYOB.

For many years I was a regular at A Café’s offshoot, Ivo & Lulu, down in Soho. Sadly it closed years ago and I have been«dying» to get up to A Café. After all of this time my expectations were very high… how could this place live up to the memories that I had? Well I finally made it uptown to A Café last night… and it was awesome. The atmosphere was fantastic… the waitstaff was friendly and helpful… and the food was amazing. My friend and I shared the avocado appetizer and it was great. I had the acorn squash entrée and my friend had the shrimp. They were both great. I’m already planning my next visit uptown to the gem.

This place was very tasty. The food was expertly made and delicious. And who doesn’t love BYOB! The prices are reasonable and it seems like it would be a very romantic date night place.(I went with a couple of friends) My only complaint(which is minimal) is the lack of waitstaff. The restaurant was pretty full with only one waiter which ended up meaning that we were waiting at least 10 minutes or more for everything, but it was totally worth it. I wouldn’t recommend it if you wanted a quick meal.

Can’t beat BYOB and pre-fixe menu for $ 25. Had the pâté and the duck confit in jerk sauce(with a side of Lipitor). Exceptional. My friend had the pears and the lamb sausage. Bread and oil? Delicious. We were the only ones in there at 6:30 on a Thursday, so we had prompt and attentive service. Was really impressed with these guys, though I imagine the size of the kitchen can be challenging on busier nights. Do yourself a favor and save room for dessert. The truffle was decadent. Can’t say enough about this place, looking for an excuse to go back sooner rather than later.

I don’t remember the last time I had such a personable meal. The owner is incredible and you can really tell he puts his everything into his restaurant. Food was delicious(not to mention, it’s such a great deal especially if you go around 6 – 8 for the prix fixe deal). I had the pâté to start and duck confit to finish — both delicious! Best of all, I left full and happy. As everyone has mentioned, the BYOB is a awesome! I highly recommend this place!

The duck– equally amazing. The lamb sausage– amazing. The pheasant pâté– amazing. Ok, you get the point. Everything is amazing. Gracious and friendly service. Please tip them a 1000%:) they deserve it.

This place is a gem from the sail hanging overhead, the BYOB policy(the great store carrying obscure wines across the street), the reasonable pricing, to the most important thing of all — the food and service. If your drinking chilled wine I suggest to bring a chiller as the pace of the food is perfect. Can’t wait to go back.

Came by a few weeks ago on a Friday reservation. Not too crowded, but still a full house. One waiter, one chef, moving things along at amazing speed. So much stealth. Had a wonderful experience and the food was spectacular. And how nice is that prefix menu! Will definitely return.

This place is truly incredible – a sparkling diamond in the rough! Hidden away in Manhattan Valley is a French Caribbean wonder where you can get a truly delicious meal(appetizer and entrée) for $ 25(between 6−8pm) which is pretty incredible in this city. One lone chef prepares all the meals and they are all unique and mouth-watering. The lamb merguez is particularly memorable and anything with creamy coconut involved is a guaranteed delight. We give this café an «A+»!

We have been here a few times now, and I have been repeatedly impressed. I’ll keep this short/sweet and informative. A few preliminary things to note: — it is BYOB, and there is an amazing wine shop across the street — there is a dinner pre fixe menu from 6p to 8p — $ 25 for an appetizer and main course — service, especially when it is crowded, can be slow, so carve out time for a long dinner — very small storefront so look hard because it can be easy to miss Standout dishes: — appetizer — the pear, the avocado, or the escargot — main dish — the duck confit or the sausage — dessert — crème brûlée(only available on certain nights so you’ll have to ask when you go)

Great food in cheap prices. I personally think this is one of a few french restaurants you should try in upper west. They have no wine there, but you are allowed to bring your own. Or, just go across the street to grab one from the wine store. So far the baked pheasant pâté is my favorite.

A totally unexpected hole-in-the-wall! Came here for boyfriend’s birthday dinner on last minute notice. Not that I forgot it was his birthday but he got really busy with work and didn’t want to leave Columbia… As soon as we walked in(Without a reservation — but it was a Tuesday night) it smelled amazinggg. We both got the prix-fixe: Baked pear/Rabbit sausages and Escagot/Shrimp. Everything was really great and flavorful! I would get the pear again and liked the escargot… wasn’t too crazy about the rabbit but it seemed that the BF liked it. It was a Tuesday night and pretty empty, but this place is TINY. You can bring a group(we saw a table for 10) but probably reserve in advance! There’s only one waiter and I guess it looked like one chef? Pretty impressive that they could handle everything. All in all, I definitely would return to this place!

A long overdue review for this quaint and intimate restaurant. Husband(then-fiancé) and I chose this place for our rehearsal dinner because we absolutely LOVED the food they served here. For us, the prix fixe was a great deal — and they did not skimp on the appetizer. In fact, it was my favorite part of the meal! We are a huge fan of their pheasant pâté(so delicious with the bread!) and the grilled avocado(the sauce is so flavorful!). My whole experience with coordinating my rehearsal dinner here was wonderful. The owner was so accommodating and friendly. And we were even able to bring in our own wine! It made for a wonderful and intimate evening. I would highly recommend coming here for a date or if you just want to have some delicious affordable food! PROS: BYOB, friendly staff, delicious appetizers. CONS: It’s a small kitchen so service might be a bit slow, but it’s worth it!

Great to have a BYOB dining option with no corkage fee. But dont bring your good wine. The food here does not deserve it. Especially not the grilled avocado, which was a grey, squishy, stringy mess. The pheasant pâté had the texture of ground turkey, and slightly better flavor. The lamb merguez was good, but surprisingly gamey. The sausages and figs sat like sea cucumber squiggles in this thin white broth that was supposedly«coconut crème fraîche» but it just tasted like canned coconut milk. Still this was the best food of the night(also tried the duck confit, which was dry). Lackluster food is no surprise. On your way to the(pretty clean) bathroom in the back, you will pass by a tiny kitchen, flameless by the looks of it, which suggests that everything is pretty much precooked and rewarmed. Still, a decent option in the neighborhood if you are wine-centric and dont have space to entertain. Just be prepared to undress the ice cozy from your nice red wine after the server puts it on.

++ — Pheasant pâté — Duck confit was good + — Baked pear — Grilled avocado is a meal by itself(It looks beautiful by theway) — Gulf shrimp was enjoyed by the wife — Chocolate cake was great, but not worth it for the half hour extra wait — Good soundtrack - — Slow service due to the fact there is one waiter TIPS: — If you miss the dinner price fixe, you are going to miss it. The waiter is pretty delayed, so chances are a table won’t be free by the time the price fixe is up — The price fixe is a good deal, but you get a lot of food

Byob with no corkage fee. The minute we were seated the waiter asked if we bought wine. Didnt have to ask me twice. We walked over to Manhattan Valley right accross the street for a cold bottle. They have a $ 25 prix fix deal for an entrée including an appetizer. For apps, I had the stuffed hass avocado while my husband had the pheasant pâtés. I thought they were both adequate. The entrées went up a notch. The shrimp on a bed of curry/coconut quinoa was really good. My husband had a well executed roasted duck confit with a complimentary jerk spices. One of the downside was the service. There is only one waiter and although he is good when it gets packed(which happens), it can be a while before dessert and eve the check comes. Overall, it’s a good pick for a cozy byob weekday dinner if you live in the area. The bargain is the no corkage fee. With the limited menu, we felt like we already tried their best hits. Wouldn’t see myself revisiting again.
