You should come here if you want to wait 1+ hour for your first drink and 2+ hours for your food order. Oh, also this places rocks for those who like to sexy dance a la Dirty Dancing in public. Otherwise, this place is probs not for you. #neveragain #hellonearth

No friendly, uppity and don’t call to ask a question cause you are treated as second class. The ambitious is fabulous but the staff sucks for lack of a very better word. I always try to support black business as a black women but clearly my dollars wasn’t good enough. Stayed a minute and went to a more friendly place. I work in customer service for one of the largest technology companies and I’d never act or treat anyone the way this place does! Sorry Jay-Z and Bae I tried I would hire a new crew!!!

Huge space, lots and lots of TVs, very very loud volume — I mean TVs were blaring full blast, couldn’t have a conversation at all. Very overpriced. I came with the Living Social voucher and although it states that we could order any entrée up to $ 28, they only allowed 4 choices on the menu and everything else below $ 28 still had a surcharge! The worst part: 1. I asked for a coffee and was told they HAVENOCOFFEE! WOW! 2. The waitress added tip by hand, writing 18%, which after I came home I realized was 27%!!! But it is so dark in the restaurant that we didn’t see anything! 3. The bathrooms are in a dark spooky corridor and are very dark inside! I don’t know what kind of ambience this place is going for, but it’s not very welcoming or romantic or friendly! If you like that kind of fun and paying through the roof, go for it!

We went there for an early dinner at about 5pm on a Saturday. The doorman practically glared at us as we walked in. Made us ask if they were open because he seemed so unwelcoming. The hostess was alright. Not bad, not great. The waitress was friendly. The food was sooooo overpriced. We were going to get alcoholic drinks but for $ 15 a drink… no thanks. We ordered the wings, chicken nachos and macaroni and cheese… all overpriced appetizers. The wings were okay… not sure if they were baked or fried because they had fat all over them that reminded me of baked Pizza Hut wings. The nachos were good but we paid $ 5 for chicken and there was barely any chicken. They pile the nachos on a thin appetizer place which makes it awkward to eat. The cheese wasn’t even melted. There were too many chips and not enough toppings. If they would’ve used a bigger/wider plate, maybe the toppings to chips ratio would balanced out. The décor and ambience was beautiful but that was the only memorable thing about it… well besides the expensive bill. :-/

Food was pretty good but the service was disappointing. The drinks took such a long time to come out that was the first complaint. Then food came and we ate it, everything we had was delicious(blackened salmon, tacos, and onion rings). Then when time for our dessert we were served our chocolate cake and then the waiter brought out another plate of strawberry shortcake, hesitant about being charged, we asked our waitress whether this was a mistake. Then she took it away and served it to another table!(We told her we didn’t touch it but seriously how can you serve someone else food that has been sitting on another guests table!!!). So we were enjoying our dessert after that incident, and then it happens again! The same waiter that gave us the first strawberry dessert presents us with another one and confirmed with us that this was«on the house.» So we were going to dig in and try it out. As my fork is a millisecond away from the cake the same waitress snatches it away from me and just kept on repeating«no no no no…» No apologies afterwards, no follow up to tell us what happened… So anyways we got over that and just asked for the check. 20 minutes later check was still not here so we found here again and asked for the check at the moment. Got the check and just left cash for the fear of waiting another 20 minutes… Oh few things I forgot to mention 1. It was a Tuesday night, the venue was NOT crowded 2. We used a groupon and everything was extra, we could only order from a small selected menu, so it may not actually be that great of a deal fellow grouponers…

I came here for a work event so my experience is different from the regular bar visit. I liked the set up with two bars as well as the way seats are located. Staff was nice. Can’t speak of cocktails as I drank wine that night. The only disadvantage I’ve experienced was the volume of music. It was way too loud and it was very hard to communicate. Keep in mind it was an industry event where people are supposed to network and chat, but from the very beginning, at 7 pm music was blasting. Overall, I think it’s a 3.8 stars place, but I’m giving it 4 to improve its general rating ;)

Pros: Atmosphere-beautiful, Drinks: tasty and potent, food: filling portions and delicious Cons: unprofessional staff: entering the location the bouncer/security gave no direction as to what to do or not do(awkward) enter the HUGE location NO hostess NO waiter NO staff to greet you. Pretty much had to walk around and wave someone down to get service. My waitress seem to be in training with another waitress/manager so there was TOO much attention. Felt like I was being rushed. The place was completely empty and The staff is in front of me eating at the bar and speaking loudly … it was very unprofessional. Would go on an game night or early dinner… but not on a late date night like I did.

So… is there a no star, option? Absolutely AWFUL! Beyonce please tell Jay-Z to get that staff in formation ASAP!!! I made reservations weeks in advance for my cousin’s 30th birthday so excited and pumped. Well… when we got there last night for our 9 pm reservation we were met by a rude, nasty, mean(she had fire engine red hair) hostess who sat us in a dirty, small side booth(?), makeshift table with no utensils, glasses, and had the NERVE to throw the menus at us like we were dogs! When we asked about changing tables we were met with sarcasm, eye rolls and a nasty no we’re booked. The sad part was there were several tables open(it wasn’t even crowded). After 20 minutes with no waiter/waitress in sight, we got up and left. As we left, the nasty hostess said«don’t trip, have a nice night.» 40⁄40 Club I have eaten at the best of the best! Mr. Chow, Tao, LAVO, STK, Catch, Bagatelle, etc. and I have never been treated poorly at any of those establishments! I will never go back here and I will make sure to tell everyone to never patronize this raggedy place! What a joke! And if you want to know, My cousin, myself and my Christian Louboutins spent the rest of the night at the Ganesvoort Park where we were treated like royalty. Check out Assellina at the Ganesvoort. Excellent! DON’T GOHEREEVER!!!

Treat this place like a Vegas lounge and you will leave satisfied. Came in for an 8−1030pm late dinner. Had a reservation at 9 but got seated early. Hostess: Got seated originally at the table n stools. Asked nicely for a booth and got moved. LESSON: ALWAYSASK. This would not be a 4-star review if we hadn’t been in the booth. DJ: played all the stuff I imagine would be on Jay Zs playlist. Wait Staff: Very professional, checked in often as the place wasn’t super packed. They also gave us a tour of the private VIP spots which made us feel like bosses. They got a 25% tip from us for the hospitality. BIG thank you guys n gals. Drinks: Liquor cocktails only, $ 15 each. But like I said, it’s what I expected. Food: $ 12 nachos at a classy spot like this were WAY bigger than we expected. Totally worth it. OVERALL: Make sure to get seated in a booth or lounge area to make the price you pay worth it. Thanks for a great experience Saturday night staff!

Why is there a line to get in?(it was basically a fancy sports bar) Why is there a MANDATORY $ 5 coat check? Why was there 3 people working in the coat check but no one offered to take my coat or smile? Why was my drink over-priced, over-iced, and not strong? Why wasn’t it a club? Why wasn’t any one dancing? Where was Jay-Z and Beyoncé? No thank you — not coming back.

Pretty cool place. I tried their burger sliders and they were great! Wine was great too. Service was average and I didn’t like that the servers had to dress like strippers. For an «upscale» place, I thought it wouldn’t be like that. At the end of the day this is a club.

*** Tons of TV, Filling and delicious meal selections, Nice ambiance *** I came here a couple weeks ago for dinner. The seating is quite interesting; it’s a combination of a club/sports bar vibe. You can definitely watch sports games here because there are TVs everywhere. However, you’re paying more for the décor and ambiance. The food here is filling and moderately priced. I didn’t sample the drinks. Our server was very accommodating and didn’t bother us too much(since we were watching a football game), but she did check in regularly. Check in on Unilocal and you can get a discount!

Went to the 40⁄40 for my friend’s surprise 40th Birthday Party. I must say, it is worth the coin. The drinks are incredibly reasonable on the pricing end, considering: 1) It’s a New York spot, and 2) It’s Jay-Z’s spot. They’ve got a MOUND(pun intended) of cocktails that are universally priced at $ 15 and certainly pack a punch(another PUN, I’m on a roll). They are incredibly concocted, and certainly do the job. The food was incredible. Our party had platters of appetizers for our room. The wings were amazing, the sliders were freakin’ FANTASTIC, the mini quesadillas were ONPOINT, and the crab cakes were just DELECTABLE. The rental prices for private events are surprisingly affordable as well. I would easily book this place for an event, like my 30th birthday. It was LIT.

Came here on a Thursday night since our event got canceled. I was skeptical about this place since the Unilocal rating was extremely poor. But since there is a travelzoo deal, we figured, why not. It was confusing when we walked in. While there were a lot of staff members standing around, no one came up to help us. We didn’t know where we could or couldn’t sit. Finally, we asked the bartender and he pointed us to a waitress. Finally decided to sit at the bar since the table sitting seemed isolated. We had a good view of the Yankees vs. Rangers game and we ordered the crispy taco and a red velvet cake. The tropical punch I got was yummy and strong. Shout out to our bartender Josh. He was super friendly and really great to look at! :P By far, Josh and the other bartender provided the best service than any of the staff standing around. The place was empty considering a Thursday night, but started filling up 30 minutes into us being there. It was really packed. Turns out there was an event going on upstairs in which we were invited to go by a stranger. It was a sale pitch to some vacation membership and we promptly left. The crowd that had gathered and made the place hopping was all in for the sales pitch and when everyone went upstairs, the bar looks desolate all over again. Sad. 40⁄40 is an odd place. I’m not sure if I like it or not. I thought it would’ve been more classy, but something in this place wasn’t clicking for me.

I’m from California, Long Beach to be exact, and when I saw the 40⁄40 club deal on Travelzoo, I snagged it quick since I was heading to NYC. Perfect! 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 cocktails for $ 59!!! Hell yeah– had to purchase the deal! Let’s talk about the restaurant in 3 parts: the food, the service, and the restaurant overall… The Food: For my appetizer, I ordered the mac & cheese, which come in a cast iron skillet. It was good. Point blank. It wasn’t too creamy or cheesy. Had just enough of breadcrumbs on the top to give that crunchy taste and feeling… So I’m petite woman, and when my friends saw that I devoured that mac & cheese with no ease and not one crumb left in the skillet, they were impressed. Apparently, they thought it was large enough for 2 people to share. Uh, no! I become very territorial and stingy when it comes to eating, as I LOVE to eat. Perhaps it can be shared, but it’s isn’t too much for one person to eat. For my entrée, I ordered the grilled salmon with some type of rice pilaf. That too was delicious! Well at least from the two bites I had before the busboy thought I no longer wanted my food and threw it away. So what had happened was, I needed to go to the restroom. Whenever I leave my plate unattended, I always my food with my napkin so that I don’t have any surprises in my food when I return. Well when I returned from the restroom, the group that I was with must have been done with their food and/or was full because their meal was bagged. I assumed, along with everyone else, that when they took all the plates they also bagged my food too. «Hey Akisha! Your food isn’t in this bag or the other bag.» My immediate response was, «Aww hold up. Wait one minute! Where is my food?» I flag down our waitress to inquire about my food… long story short, the busboy thought that I didn’t want my food because I had my napkin over it and threw it in the trash. Really?! Who does that?! Why would he think I’m just going to say«sayonara» to a full plate of food instead of taking it home. The kitchen was closing, but you best believe I requested to have them make me another plate. For my cocktail, I ordered the Mango Mai Tai. Uh, it was ok. I’ve had better Mai Tai’s. The Service: The service was exceptional, minus the mishap of my food. Now I have to mention that I went on a Thursday at 10:45p, and it was a handful of people there. On the weekend, may be a different story though. The Restaurant: Beautiful! Huge bar right smack dab in the middle of the restaurant. Upstair seating(i didnt go upstairs so I really don’t know what it looks like). The DJ was all the way live. Had me dancing in my seat with my fork in my mouth. If I’m ever in NYC again, I would definitely return but on a Friday or Saturday to see what it is like. NOTETO40⁄40STAFF: Never assume a customer is completely done with their meal just because you see a napkin on top. Some people, like myself, customarily cover their meal when they go to the restroom. When in doubt, just bag the food as opposed to throwing it away. You can’t go wrong if you bag the food.

This is a major love/hate spot for me. Love the Vegas styled design, giant TVs, good services, good food, it’s an awesome place for a sports occasion, luxury style, no doubt. Hate the BS requirements of coat check in, does JZ really need that $ 5 from each coat? It’s just a major turnoff. And they require you to give them your ID along with your credit card when you settle your bill. what’s up with that? Too many customers bringing stolen credit cards? Why can’t you just check it at the table instead of taking my ID to the back room? I mean, WTFJZ? Absolutely no problem with their price, you get what you pay for, but their house rules are just wrong and dirty. So in conclusion, you need to come without a coat and just throw cash unless you wish to have your ID replicated.
