Interesting space featuring innovative artists at bargain prices and very nice staff. Minimalist chairs were the one lowlight. Right by Rector subway stop.

Very interesting, versatile performance venue. Three studios, two dressing rooms. Highly recommend checking out a show here!

I’ve only visited one of the spaces in this facility – the black box theatre in the back. I went to see the Columbia Stages production of Michael John LaChiusa’s Marie Christine. In this particular space, all seats seemed to be good for viewing the show, which was great by the way… and only cost $ 15.(What a deal!) Anyway, I got to the theatre just a few minutes before the show started and didn’t have much choice for seating… so I took a chair along the left side near the side wall. Luckily, I could see everything perfectly! The only thing that wasn’t great was the position of the orchestra; the players were lined up along the left side of the stage. Because of their position, the music was louder on the left side of the theatre, and sometimes this covered the voices. I feel that patrons sitting on the right(closer to the hall and exit) probably did not experience this. The next time I attend this theatre and the orchestra is positioned there, I will be sitting on the other side. Everything else was great.

Wow, what a unique theatre experience! Saw The Diary of a Teenage Girl here last night and was suprised at the set up of it. There are either cushions or chairs to sit on, depending on your preference. The building is minimalist and modern. An overall good time.

Some theatres stand out due to million dollar interior work(think Met Opera House), some fail despite million dollar renovations(think NYC Opera with new seats that just are plain uncomfortable) but once in a while, you come across a theatre that is able to make the most of their budget and create a theatre that is one-of-its-kind … the 3LD would be one of these that I’ve recently had the chance to discover. Spanking new building exterior… right smack by the subway stop and a bit of culture amidst the FiDi… what more could one ask? How about a one-of-a-kind unique theater set-up??? I was here to watch Diary of a Teenage Girl and loved how cosy(in a relaxed and intimate way) and did I mention unique the staging and seating is here. The stage and the audience are blended well together, separated by various platform heights etc. Free seating, which meant the audience had a choice to go either with the regular seating OR get this, cushions that were sprawled around the theater albeit in an orderly way. It’s like a rooftop party cum theater cum large loft space/living room all in one. The colors and design of the exterior and interior are tres modern and done up in a minimalist way. The setting here really made one feel different, intrigued and was so worth checking 3LD out!
