Nothing like getting middle eastern food from Dearborn but it’ll do when Im hungry and have no where else to go. Basic place called kabob n co now. They need to be little more generous with there food

This place is now Kabob & Co. I’d visited Food on Wood a number of times, so we decided to stay, hoping that the food is still as good as it was before. It’s not. The garlic sauce is still great, and the seasoned fries weren’t bad. But the falafel and the deboned chicken platters both left something to be desired. I’ve had falafel from many places, and I just don’t like it here. And the pita bread is the kind you can buy at the grocery store, not fresh. The service is friendly and helpful, though, even though it’s now a fast casual restaurant so you order at the counter and clear your own table. Not sure we’ll be back, Falafel King on Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield is much better overall.

This place is now called Kabob & Co. Ate here today and was very impressed. Be aware, this is more of a fast-casual restaurant than a traditional sit-down place, though I think the food stacks up to just about any restaurant I’ve ever visited in Dearborn(I’m a Dearborn native). It has a surprisingly full menu. The sampler platter for four had chicken and beef shawarma, chicken tawook, grape leaves, falafel, lamb kafta, and grilled beef tips, along with hummus and fattouch. Everything was very good, especially the falafel, which was obviously freshly fried upon ordering, rather than just being reheated. The platter easily fed four adults, with leftovers to spare. We’re not small eaters. The group included two gluttons(myself included) and a pregnant lady. The value was outstanding. It wasn’t on the menu, but they made us an order of tomato kibbie on request. Not sure what spices they used(sumac?), but man, was it tasty. If you’re reading this, owner of the place, think about making that a standard menu item, or at least message me with the spice blend you used!

Went in for dinner tonight and the place was empty. We waited for 10 minutes and never had anyone come to our table. This place is not recommended if you want to eat food.

Good food, slow and bad service, one waiter running the whole restaurant and clearing dishes, and working the register! Really? Crushed lentil is watery and worst I have ever had. Just like this the last time I was here.

Really awesome shawarma sandwich! Not my favorite hummus, but the sandwich made up for it.

Terrible service(5 minute wait to get a waiter with nobody in the restaurant). Terrible food — greasy, limp and nasty vegetables. And far too expensive — even the good local Mediterranean food doesn’t cost this much. Fortunately, the waiter didn’t ask if we wanted our remaining food to go, even the sandwich with only a single bite taken out of it.

Really yummy Mediterranean food. The Greek salad was super fresh and the chicken was great quality. I highly recommend this place to get your fill of great food!

This place is excellent! They sometimes have a small waitstaff so if you dine in you may have to wait a little bit if you order in. It’s so worth the wait and they give you the fresh baked pita with garlic spread to munch on. The garlic spread is the best. I like eating here because you know you’re getting something fresh, delicious and you can choose healthy!

Its a nice concept, somewhere between a diner and a restaurant. It is waiter service, but one server can get busy — it feels like more of an upscale take out place, that has a liquor license. Mediterranean flair and I think the wood grill is a bit novel idea. Definitely go with bundle meals/warps. The food was good, but not memorable. So it was a fast decent place to eat, not sure its a destination restaurant — but a nice option if you are looking for something fairly quick.

Our family went to Food On Wood last night for dinner. Loved it. My husband had the lamb Shawarma combo on wood, I had the chicken Shawarma combo on wood and my daughter had the vegetarian charwoman. We all thought it was very good. The employees were very nice and responsive. The owner was our waiter since two of his wait staff had gotten into accidents on there way in the winter storm. They hadn’t been open even a week when we went so you could tell they were still working out some small kinks but they were doing well. This is not a chain, which is nice. The décor is a mix with their own with some Baja Fresh still showing, but clean. I wish them every bit of luck that they can make it. Well priced and a good addition to the neighborhood.

This place took over the old baja fresh. If you look around you can see the remnants = which is cute and weird. Menu has the normal stuff and then the not so normal stuff. I love that they have sampler platters! If only i hadn’t been eating alone! If you are eating, it’s seat yourself, but you have to hope the single gal doing it all notices you. There is wine and beer — yeah. Togo, you follow the wall around to the counter, order and enjoy the big, weird comfy red leather chairs. I went with 2 appetizers — chicken schwarma on hummus and a sasauge plate. Both were tasty and i definitely ate too much. The hummus is huge and definitely not soupy or weak, but tasty with the garlic sauce and chicken. Mmmm! I would definitely come here again, bonus points for the 15 min take out parking, and the friendly staff. I always hate green cedar for their lack of respect for female customers… Can’t wait to try additional dishes!

For what it’s worth, my husband & I have been here when it first opened(when the food was served on wood about 18 mos ago) and in the last month. A couple things: — The chef doesn’t take requests that would totally make a hot mess out of the plate, but you can reasonably order off the menu and get what you want. We wanted hummus + shawarma + a whole platter of roasted veggies. Everything tasted great. The hummus was creamy(not watery or grainy), the chicken was tender and not greasy. Veggies weren’t limited to onions and green peppers — it was a rainbow of awesome. — Service needs to be tweaked a bit for consistency(water refills, utensils, stuff that you shouldn’t have to ask for) but the server was friendly and prompt. With time & training(from someone with experience) it’ll be worked out. — It was clean. Nothing I saw was noticeably gross. — I grew up in East Dearborn, seriously I understand nothing will ever compare. Get over that, it’s 20 miles away and I’m hungry now. This is good food, reasonably priced, and unless you’re headed to New Yasmeen the bread won’t compare.

Seat yourself option was good for lunch… It also makes way for longer waiting times after you seated. Plus the coupons can b refused depending on what you order. See the coupon first and then decide the order?

I’m always on the hunt for a good Arabic food restaurant outside of Dearborn, but I’ve not had the best luck. Food on Wood was terrific! I’ll definitely be coming back. I got the Chicken Shawarma lunch special for $ 8.99 and I got a sandwich(with, as other reviewers have said, amazing toum), a full-size salad, and a soft drink. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, even on a busier Saturday afternoon. But the real question is: why is the restaurant named Food on Wood? Things aren’t served on wood… I guess it doesn’t matter, since that garlic is so good!

Best Mediterranean food around. Their garlic paste(toum) is worth the trip alone. Also, it’s the only place I’ve found in the metro area that serves Turkish coffee.

Best chicken schawarma ever! Much better than green cedar! Great staff and quick service.

Honestly, I was surprised how good the food was, especially for delivery. Since there is a $ 25 minimum we ordered the platter for two. It exceeded all expectations on every level. The food was abundant and delicious and there was more than enough accoutrement for all sent. This will definitely be my go to place for delivery from this point forward! Edit: After getting delivery three more times I have to go from four to five stars for consistency and awesomeness. So well done that I haven’t gotten takeout/delivery from anyplace else since I found FOW. It might be a bit of a problem;) Check out the two Platter for two pics– so much so good!

This place makes a pretty legit chicken shawarma. The chicken is in large quality chunks, well marinated with a more raw tasting garlic sauce than Green Cedar might use, but still delicious. The pita is a little thicker too but I had two of them and I enjoyed them both. Service was friendly and reasonably quick for carry-out but with only one other person in the restaurant, so I’d be curious how they do at their peak swing. That said, I’d come back for the chicken shawarma if I was in the neighborhood but I’m still a little more partial to Green Cedar. I’m sure this place has a lot to offer though. The concept is cool.

My husband and I are always looking for great new restaurants to try and Food on Wood is nothing short of excellent. We got the platter for 2 and when the plate came out it was enough for 4! It had a mix of everything from lamb kabobs, grape leaves, falafel, fried kibbeh — which is absolutely delicious — chicken and meat shawarma which was moist and very tender. We also received a generous portion of fattoush and hummous. The complimentary bread and garlic was so yummy! I couldn’t get enough and the fact that it’s unlimited will definitely keep me coming back for more. The service was incredibly nice, the entire staff made you feel like family. You can tell they really care about their customers.
