Browndog Creamery is located in downtown Northville, within the shopping/business area. We can easily walk there from our house, so one day on a nightly walk we decided to stop in and try it out. I loved that there were numerous dairy free options, as well as fun flavor combos for my adventurous taste. I wouldn’t suggest this place to someone who is looking for a plain or average ice cream. They do have a couple of ice cream flavors that involve alcohol(i.e. Bailey’s, etc), that I also thought would be fun and interesting to try out on a future visit. There are tables for dining location indoors and outdoors, and water dishes outdoors for the dog owners looking for a place to stop and enjoy a treat. Additionally, there is a specialty chocolate shop also located in the store, which had great candy molds and baskets that I think would be great for a quick gift for someone. My tip would be to try a flavor before deciding on it, the ingredient lists are posted but I felt like there were many flavors that tasted a lot differently than what I would’ve guessed based on seeing the ingredients. There was one in particular that had a very strong orange peel taste that wouldn’t have been anything like what I was expecting.

Good place and I totally respect what they’re doing here. You can get flavors here that you’ve never dreamed of. All excellent. I wouldn’t recommend any more than a single scoop as it is much more dense than other ice creams.

Pros: good desserts Great neighborhood Cons: ice cream strange flavor. Different not exactly bad. Don’t know if they have ice cream flavors in rotation. May come back to check it out.

Has a lot of potential but I’ve had better for less. Almost creamy but small texture of(presumably) ice crystals killed it for me and I thought the amount of ads-ins could have been more, maybe doubled(I had salty dog?). This is compared to Ben and Jerrys, Hagen Daz, Zingerman’s gelato and Guernsey.

— The service here is fantastic. The guy was patient with us as we were deciding what flavors we wanted, and as we sampled many different flavors. — Ice cream is really creamy. I got the equivalent of the mint chocolate chip, and with each lick/spoon the mint flavor was really highlighted, and it was then complimented nicely with the chocolatey cookie bits. Would come back. Wish they were in Ann Arbor!

Great small batch ice cream. Manager on duty(who also makes the ice cream) was also very friendly. Also have great looking desserts — I was out of calories so didn’t try them.

I’ve only had this ice cream once at a wedding, but had to write about it & can’t wait to visit in store soon. The lavendar fig ice cream was the best(ok, second best after a scoop in NYC) ice cream I’ve ever had. Very creamy, soft with no ice flakes yet not melty, and a ridiculously tasty flavor. Don’t miss out! EDIT: Just checked it out in store. Awesome! The woman who helped us was so nice and patient while we poured over the ice cream. Flavors today included bone marrow with cherries, salted caramel with brownie & pecans, bourban with pecans, chocolate with cayenne and nutmeg with caramel ised cocoa nibs, dark choc peanut butter, carrot cake with Jack Daniels, almond with pears and Gorgonzola(tied for second best), burnt sugar with gingerbread and fudge(best!) s’more martini, pumpkin, min with cookies n cream, roasted carrot with ginger(tied for second best), & Cookie Monster

LOVE their ice cream and waffle cones!!! Stopped in here by chance one day and always crave their ice cream now. Very cool that they also make some flavors with alcohol.

I love finding local ice cream stores that make their goodies from scratch and from good ingredients. I was excited to finally have time during the day to visit BrownDog. There were so many different flavor combinations — from Bourbon Pecan to a Pear flavor mixed with Gorgonzola cheese. The lady behind the counter was so patient and allowed me to try as many flavors as I wanted. The price point is a bit high but the fresh creaminess of the ice cream is totally worth it. I ended up eating the Jacked Up Carrot Cake and i totally killed my single in five minutes. There were chunks of carrot cake, cream cheese flavor, and the dessert was spiked with some Jack Daniels. OMG. Delicious. I am definitely coming back — warm or cold weather.

Oh my gosh… love this place! half because the ice cream flavors are inventive and spot on but half because the nicest girl in the world works here! Wherever they are getting their super friendly employees is a well-guarded secret I guess! So I tried the pumpkin/chocolate and the Beer ice cream because they seemed seasonal and I didn’t want to miss out.(but everyone else says Salty Dog is the best) Also, bought a few«Unicorn Poop» cookies for my daughter… just because they looked like what Unicorn Poop should look like. :)(see pics if you’re that curious)

My friend and I came here for ice cream last night. We ordered a small cup of mudslide and one of I need a therapist(peanut butter and chocolate). The ice cream was delicious and the perfect amount. We tried lots of samples such as the Holy Cannoli, Grasshopper, and the Aztec Chocolate. Everything was so good! I have to add the young ladies working scooping the ice cream were the happiest and friendliest ice cream people I have ever experienced. They had smiles on their faces and didn’t mind giving out samples. There is just such a nice welcoming atmosphere here and the employees and ice cream are 5 star!

I brought my dad here because I heard great things, and I was blown away! He tried the Salty Dog and I had the sherbet, AMAZING! Today I treated my boyfriend– he had the bourbon pecan and I had the key lime… So delicious!!! We tried a few others like the cookie monster and the dragon’s milk. Just… Wow! They share a space with Chocolates by Renee… Instead of a box of chocolates for my boyfriend’s parents, we got them three points of ice cream. Dragon’s Milk, Simple Interest, and Bourbon Pecan. I can’t wait for them to try this delicious ice cream!

Great customer service and excellent flavored ice cream! I’ve tried Salty Dog(their yummy riff on salted caramel) and Bourbon Pecan(another delicious flavor that doesn’t make you feel like Grandma ordering Butter Pecan). I’ve tried Ken’s Mystery Cookie(which was an oatmeal-y ginger winner). I swear we had a sample of practically every flavor, with a couple spoons coming after we’d already received our bowls of ice cream. Great combination of creamy(our three plus numerous chocolate variations) and clean, fresh options(like Mai Tai or Red Grapefruit Sorbet). Inside and outdoor seating available. Street parking and nearby lots.

As spring weather descended on Michigan, the streets of downtown Northville filled with shoppers and diners alike. It was one of the first truly warm Saturdays of the year so after brunch and some shopping, we dropped off at this large sweet shop for a treat. A fairly new addition to the neighborhood, the location featured weathered wood floors and rustic seating that paradoxically looked very contemporary. Chocolates by Renée, a stalwart retailer in the area, sat along one wall with the ice cream offerings at the back. After sampling a number of different flavors, I settled on an ice cream flight. As with microbreweries, the flight of ice cream was a whole scoop of three diverse flavors. I had the Tuscan Sun, Strawberry Basil, and Michael’s Masterpiece. My favorite was the Tuscan Sun, a creation that featured olive oil, lemon and pine nuts. The subtle taste of olive oil and lemon was incredible. With the pine nuts, it had extraordinary flavor and depth. Michael’s Masterpiece included the hazelnut flavors of Nutella mixed in with crunchy, toasted hazelnuts, while the Strawberry Basil, unsurprisingly, comprised the flavors of strawberries, basil herb, and buttermilk. Of the three, this had the weakest flavor profile. All ice creams were thick and creamy with great texture. It was a wonderful way to relax and catch up with a friend.

Ok, I have been here more times now than I will admit. The bourbon pecan ice cream is like crack in a waffle cone. Malts are top notch as well. Folks have mentioned the people working there and it is true that they are really friendly, helpful folks. If you are in town you should check them out. Best regards, Tony

Quality crafted ice cream made with local ingredients and in small batches., welcome Northville’s microcreamery! I am so excited to have this little stop downtown, with a nice patio to boot. They have your usual(vanilla, chocolate, pb/chocolate) flavors done in an unusual way(think 1000x as delicious as regular ice cream) and then they have your exciting flavors. Exciting to me, at least. ‘Tuscan Sun’ has olive oil, lemon, and pine nuts as its ingredients. The coconut — blood orange sorbet is refreshing. The ‘Salty Dog’ is their sweet and salty flagship and bestseller. My choice is the ‘Bourbon Pecan’ kind; creamy ice cream with Michigan bourbon and pralined pecans — it is glorious perfection.
