Will not be returning to this store! The bras all have a security tag; therefore, unable to try on for size. The owner refused to remove security tag despite being a long time customer. If bra is purchased — final sale — unable to return for any reason!

May Max is the epitome of these Asian lady stores! They are run by asian women, play LOUD annoying pop songs, and have cheap(in price and quality) clothes. The style is super trendy clubbing clothes, made of cheaper fabrics with a few weird wildcard racks of clothing(popular Korean styles?). Now, this may sound unconventional, but I like buying my work clothes here. I find it counterproductive to buy expensive clothes to make money! Only because I have to adhere to «business casual» dress code do I shop at May Max. Black slacks were $ 12.99, gray slacks $ 14.99. The button down tops are hit or miss, sometimes they include too much frilly, butterfly crap all over. Plain spaghetti strap tank tops in solid colors are $ 4 and are perfect inside a cardigan for the office. Plain long sleeve shirts are $ 5. Target would have these sorts of basics for cheap, but not as cheap by 2 or 3 dollars. BUT target stuff is worn by so many people that I avoid it so I don’t end up at dinner wearing the same thing as another woman. Most of the sizes are tiny which is perfect considering I am 5’2″ and size 00. If I go to Ann Taylor for work clothes, the petite pants are dragging on the floor(i know, i know, one is suppose to get that altered, ugh) and the waistband is bunched up under a belt. The hip area would be all pouffy like aviator pants :(So, short and skinny women, head to May Max. I love the simple, easy to coordinate work clothes for cheap! That said, I wouldn’t buy a suit here. Or the cheap jewelery, sunglasses, or intimate wear.

There is nothing more annoying than a language barrier during business transactions. Most sides are left frustrated, unheard, and basically hating the opposing party. However, there is a time when foreign businesses are welcome: the women’s independent clothing stores across LA. You know the ones I speak of. They are a mixture of boutique and discount wares and look pretty much like an import truck got raided and one-of-a-kind clothing made it onto the racks. Sounds sketchy, right? Indeed, but it makes for some terrific savings! May Max is one of these somewhat shady stores owned by Asian women who barely speak English. The perks of this? Ladies will find jewelry, purses, scarves, undergarments, dresses, pants, skirts, shorts, etc at Target-level prices. Admittedly, one has to scan the clothing as they sometimes have tears or hanging threads; but overall the clothing is fashionable, cute, and relatively well– made with acceptable materials. The sizes at May Max are somewhat odd. Some of the clothing is smaller than the actual marked measurements(Asian sizes are smaller than US) and other times a «small» will look like a «large». Don’t fret though because May Max has several dressing rooms to accommodate your need to try clothing on(however, they DO not let you try on undergarments such as bras). As mentioned, the store clerks aren’t exactly well-versed in the English language which can cause problems but during my experiences at May Max, they have been kind and friendly and I did not encounter any issues. Granted, I haven’t tried to exchange a product so I’m not sure if the employees would continue to be kind in such a situation. Humorous tidbit about May Max? They don’t appreciate theft(who does?) and partake in the«old-school» embarrassment method of posting a security-camera photo of a customer caught stealing immediately adjacent to the store’s front door. This successfully keeps that customer from coming back… plus causes a good laugh from the other patrons. I’m not sure about you, but seeing that picture deters me from attempting to steal(not that I would, of course!). May Max may not be Bloomgindale’s but for a lady on a Target or Ross budget; you can find great deals and trendy clothing in a much cleaner environment than the aforementioned stores.
