Fantastic! Went here tonight because a friend and I wanted to grab a quick bite after class. Great cocktail, great service, and great meatloaf!!! It has been about 10 years since I have eaten meatloaf, but it looked great, so I went for it– awesome! Will return ASAP.

I’m so happy we accidentally came across this place. We were actually planning to have lunch somewhere else, and when we found that place was closed we had to regroup. Not more than a month or so ago we were actually in Ireland and still had in our memory what an Irish bar is like. We certainly aren’t experts in what an Irish bar ‘should’ be like, but based on our limited experience the bar area at least has done an incredible job maintaining the Irish look and feel. We sat at a high top table near the bar. The atmosphere was cozy — warm wood tones, interesting wall art, people sipping beers at the bar and watching one of many games/matches on the televisions. Further towards the back of the place are tables and booths for more of a family atmosphere, so this place really is more like a restaurant with some bar-like qualities. The owner/manager(?) greeted every customer that entered the door and stopped by to check in on how our food was. He was very pleasant, genuine, wore a bow tie(bow ties are cool!), and was happy to hear we were newcomers. In addition to drinks(at least one Guinness, of course) we ordered the nachos(which were huge and incredible), and burgers. The great thing about the burger menu is you can choose the type of burger(meat/non-meat), the set of toppings, and choose from types of bread or have the burger over greens. My bf actually thought it was the best burger he had ever had and had to tell the manager about it. He’s extremely picky about the quality of his beef. We’ve both agreed that we need to return to this place. The menu looks really fun, with lots of options for omnivores and enough vegetarian options to not get bored with repeat visits. The parking lot is on the small side, and you are required to back your car into the spaces. There is more room towards the back of the lot to maneuver, if you like, and you can enter the restaurant through either the front or back door. Seat yourself!

First time here which earned us a free sample of eggplant fries! Such a nice gesture. The food itself was pretty basic but good. Great place for warm comfort food and a good value!

So good! The first time, there was a bit of a wait when we arrived. But we were able to snag a couple of seats at the bar while we waited. The staff was very good at updating us on how long the wait was. While at the bar, we got popcorn and drinks. They had my heart at the popcorn though! Anyway, once we were seated, our waiter was great. We got our food and drinks quickly. The portions were good as was the food. I would definitely recommend it, despite it being in an odd area. It’s in the middle of a residential neighborhood, you wouldn’t expect to find a pub there. But it’s good and there is a parking lot, which is a plus.

Extremely friendly and accommodating managers and staff. We came in as a party of four later on in the evening on a Friday night and were waiting to be sat at a table. Several different staff members, including the manager, approached us and informed us of our wait time, the status of our table, and and took our drink orders. Wonderful service and amazing food. Eggplant fries are definitely worth trying as an appetizer.

I plan on changing my review the next time I come here because my friends rave about this place and I am sad that I was disappointed. I came here with friends on a very busy night and we ended up sitting at the bar, which was fine by us. The wait staff and bartenders were all friendly and wonderful. I ordered the bolognese, one of my favorite dishes anywhere, and was unfortunately really disappointed. I thought the sauce was really bland, lacked a «wow» factor and something in it gave me an upset stomach later in the evening. It wasn’t anything too bad, but I definitely did not feel great. I was surprised because my roommate raved about this dish. Perhaps it was an off night but the pasta I received(while it looked good and was in a large serving) was very lackluster. That being said this place has a great atmosphere and really good drinks. It is very popular so I am excited to return and try something different!

To say that this place is accommodating is an understatement! 5 of us started at the bar to have a few drinks, but wanted to move to a table to get some appetizers. The staff was more than happy to transfer our check to our table, which is rare to find. Service was efficient and there when you needed it without being overbearing. We also had some picky eaters in the bunch(myself included) and they were able to accommodate any of our special requests. The food was delicious(nachos, salt and pepper wings, eggplant fries, chili) and the drinks were refilled as soon as we needed them. Will definitely be coming back soon for the great food & even better service!

My first time at Boston and the waitress is welcoming. Offering me free salted popcorns. Ordered shepherd pie and root beer. The shepherd pie tastes very good with black pepper sauce and it is full of beef. Really a good dish that can fill your stomache.

First visit to Newton. Came to rent a cello up the street at Johnson’s and they pointed me here as a way to wait out the traffic. It is so much more than that. Just stopped for a pint of Guinness and an appetizer, but everything was spot on. Broccoli cheddar bites with a dipping sauce and a sample of eggplant fries because I was a first timer. Bartender was lovely, vibe comfortable for a 50 something single female sitting at the bar. May need to buy a cello once my rental runs out so I can come back.:)

My wife and I were recommended here and it was great. Setting was nice, the food was awesome and service was top notch! Kate our waitress turned me on to Dog Fish Head and I can’t stop drinking them. If we lived closer we would be regulars.

lunch recently, wonderful hospitality, from the greeting in the parking lot to the good by as you left, not much seen anywhere… food very good, tried the buffalo onion, the meatloaf and the teriyaki turkey tips, all very good although the meatloaf and onion really won… full bar and drinks were excellent and bartendress was pleasant and attentive and kept the waters full… so try this place!!!

This is a stellar Irish restaurant. I cannot lump them in with«Irish Pubs» because it feels so different. Professional in their detail and service and they take pride in their food and drinks. There is a lot of talk about their Eggplant Fries. I must admit that we were impressed with the way that they prepared them. The atmosphere is just loud enough to help out our conversation blend in and the service is on point. Other Boston-area eateries should take notes on how a restaurant should be run. No one gets by just on their food alone these days. So, in my opinion, DG’s is the entire package. This place gets packed, so be prepared. But whatever you do, don’t pass this place up. i would name entrees, but why? They have all been fantastic. Please keep up the hard work DG! We need more places like you!

I was visiting from NY but had the privilege to stop in here for a nice dinner. Immediately I was warmly greeted and ushered to my table. I told the hostess who asked if I had been there I was from out of town. Another man came by a few minutes later with a small plate of their house special Eggplant fries for me on the house as a guest. I can’t remember service anywhere near this superb at an any restaurant back in NY. The waitress checked in often as did the hostess. The food itself is great. I had Clam Chowder, Spinach Artichoke Dip, Chicken Wings and for dessert Chocolate Decadence which is so rich you should share but otherwise it is to die for. Tremendously impressed with the warm and attentive service, big menu, and wonderful food. It is a clean and fun environment and I’ll be sure to come back when I return to the area. Thank you guys for creating such a memorable and special meal!!!

Amazing. I’m so angry I work so close to this place and didn’t know about it for over TENYEARS! Stew was awesome. Chicken avocado bacon sandwich is so perfect. Special treatment my first time in was nice too.

Wonderful Irish ambiance, but we were a little surprised to find very few authentic Irish meals on the menu. We ordered the baked scrod, with eggplant fries and rice pilaf, and the beef stew special. The beef stew was excellent; and while it was served in a bread bowl, it was neither too dry or too mushy. The beef was tender and full of flavor, I would order it again. The baked scrod was so so, not bad, but a little dry. We didn’t eat it, and mentioned this to the waitress. The manager promptly came to our table, was super friendly, and let us know we wouldn’t be charged for it :) The eggplant fries were tasty, the eggplant flavor was strong, which was nice. They were definitely not over powered by the taste of breading, which is so often the case with fried appetizers. Order them with marinara sauce! Overall, I would visit again if in the area, but would probably not make a special visit.

Great food, amazing service! It gets pretty busy after 6, so call ahead or get there early. We walked in right at 6 and got a table for two. It was our first time there so they brought out complimentary zucchini fries for us right as we sat down. So nice! We ordered the broccoli cheddar bites which were good. We both had the steak tips and it was honestly the best dinner we’ve had in a long time. The portions are huge so we have leftovers for tomorrow. Definitely coming back and trying other plates!

Dunn Gaherins is 75 miles away from my house. I happened upon it thanks to Unilocal while in the area for a road race. I would drive the 75 miles to hang out there again. Good beer. Good food. Good service. Sat at the bar after walking in close to opening time. Order up a couple of black & tans. Bartender takes our order, asks our names & shakes each of our hands. Do we really see customer service like this anymore? Outstanding. While we were looking over the menu, we received a complimentary plate of eggplant fries which were AWESOME! Fried to perfection & sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Delicious! We both went with burgers with fries. Clearly the burgers are handmade… soft, juicy, delicious. Cooked to perfection atop a bed of greens dressed lightly with balsamic. So. Good. Overall, good beer selection, yummy food, good service, fun atmosphere & cool regulars to interact with. See you there!

Dunn Gaherins is one of the coziest bars I’ve ever set foot in. And by cozy I mean that the space, the vibe and the wooden accents with the lighting almost make it appear to be a Hobbit hole or sorts. I just want to get a pint of Guinness and hide somewhere in a corner and relax. My lovely wife and I went there on a whim to get dinner on some random, snowy weeknight. We were seeking comfort and warmth and that’s exactly what we found. We walked in around 7:30PM and found ourselves inside a bustling, adorable Irish pub and we decided to forego regular seating and opted to hang out at the bar instead. We got a few beers and checked out their menu. We almost got an appetizer but instead each got an entrée. I went with their beef bolognese pasta($ 14.99) while my wife had one of their burgers with some of their eggplant fries. Both dishes were great and the portions were big. The bolognese sauce was a real delight, was packed with flavor and it definitely hit the spot. And I may have stolen quite a few of my wife’s eggplant fries which were incredible. All in all this place is a real hidden gem. The service was outstanding, their beer selection decent and their food was about as good as it gets for a bar. I look forward to many more trips there in the future. Oh one thing to note is that they do have a private, but very narrow parking lot. Be warned. I’d recommend sticking to street parking instead.

Great food and great service! So glad that I discovered this cute little restaurant, thanks to all the great Unilocalers. Once you walk in, you feel very welcomed. My friend and I felt like we were on a mini vacation at a cabin in New Hampshire or Maine. We were seated at a booth immediately and introduced to their menu. Great selection of beer, both draft and bottle. To start off your meal, they give you a big basket of popcorn. What a treat! Also, since it was our first time there, they gave us a sample of their eggplant fries. I normally don’t like eggplant, but I thought these were delicious. We ended up both ordering burgers and an appetizer to share — buffalo onion rings(as featured on Phantom Gourmet, apparently). The onion rings were good, but nothing too special, in my opinion. I expected thicker crunchier onion rings, but overall, they were still good. Now, my burger… oh my goodness. I got the X-tudo burger — cheese, smoekhouse ham, bacon, corn, crispy potato straws, and fried egg. All the best ingredients in one burger! I figured why not treat myself once in a while. Again, this was featured on Phantom Gourmet, so I guess that was my theme for the night. The burger was MASSIVE. I could only finish half, probably also because we had so many other little treats beforehand. It’s so flavorful! I could’ve done without the corn though. I’ve never had a burger with ham AND bacon though, so the ham was a nice added touch.
