Visiting the town and was looking for some good sushi. Noticed the mixed reviews but the pics looked really good so thought we give it a try. Unfortunately not too impressed. Right when we walked in there was an odd smell. Bento box, didn’t come in a bento box. Kids had chicken teriyaki which was probably the worst we have ever tasted… The chicken was really dry with a weird texture. Fried octopus was ok. Shrimp ebi also ok. Their asiatico sushi sampler had some bad pieces but the presentation was nice. Octopus seaweed salad was too salty. Service was really nice though, but didn’t compensate for the lack of taste in the food.

I was excited to try this place and so hungry for something flavorful at the end of a long day. I ordered take-out and will now share with you what not to order: the rib eye beef yakiudon. It was mushy, tasteless and mostly reminded me of eating old stew. There were a few slices of carrots in there, some mushy mushrooms, overcooked noodles, and the beef had several gristly unchewable bits. I ate enough to satisfy hunger(so, maybe one and a half stars are in order) and threw the rest away.

Really enjoyed my meal here — wonderful pork bao, great phillipine roll, good udon, nice edamame, good sake selection, nice sweet bean balls for desert! Friendly service — worth a visit!

No. It’s really bad when someone from a land-locked state comes to a sushi restaurant situated ON the Pacific and has a lousy experience. While our server was attentive and nice, the sushi was edible – and that’s the best possible descriptor for it. The rice was mushy, the fish was fishy, and overall, we were extremely disappointed in the meal. We were there right after they opened for dinner and there were several other couples in the place. The host seemed frustrated that we didn’t want to sit at the bar, but at a private table(one of several that were available). This place gets two stars because the server was kind and the location is pretty cool, but ultimately, I would not recommend this restaurant who anyone who likes sushi.

Best sushi in newport! Decent oyster shooters, good green tea and awesome fresh sushi!

Very fresh seafood didn’t make up for poorly prepared rice. The Chirashi Sushi needed a larger variety of fish. I ordered two rolls, one with crab and one with lobster, couldn’t taste either in the rolls. The sake was good.

We especially liked the salmon and yellowtail nigiri. The service was top notch! We enjoyed sitting on the huge deck and watching the people fishing off the pier next door.

Lunch 6÷16÷2015 — 4 persons If you were starving, maybe. Weird hours of business — Looks like they have lunch once per week on Tuesday at Noon. Slow service, mediocre food. I had to ask for a serving of white steamed rice to go with my meal. Served like it was dumped in an old kitchen bowl, cold. No one was happy with their meal. We were there at Noon, no one else came in while we were there. No return visit here.

Beautifully fresh Hamachi and shrimp. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the slices of fish on the nigeri sushi. Sadly, my first time here was to pick up food to go. I wanted to stay and enjoy the ambience. The menu is very extensive with new combinations. The next time I travel to Newport, this will be at the top of the list for dining in.

Amazingly fresh seafood, all locally sourced. A nice sake list, view and house made noodles is a lethal combination.

Godzilla roll really rocks! And my hubby loved the fresh crab in the Phillipine roll. Seaweed salad fresh. Will definitely return any time we’re in Newport.

Awful. We sat waiting for 10 minutes after ordering a drink for them to even take our order at lunchtime and there was only one other table with people at the restaurant. I counted at least three people working(2 kitchen, 1 wait staff). None of the fish is locally caught… We would NOT return to this restaurant on a future visit. The décor was also atrocious. Fluorescent lights with some sort of Christmas wrap ribbon draped between them. The restaurant also had a funk smell.

Damn good sushi in Oregon. What a great find! The fish was melt-in-your-mouth quality, and the rolls were your standard fusion — love me some mango sushi. Staff was super friendly, I loved the open kitchen — you could see the folks back there working really hard to make sure everything came out great. They did quite a few things extra that makes this a MUSTEAT place. Namely, the attention to detail with flavors. Their vegetable tempura had roasted broccoli, and the tentsuyu(sauce) was flavored with fresh ginger. But hands down their yakitori won me over. The chicken thighs were I think lightly breaded before being pan-friend(not sure HOW they did it) before being lacquered with a sticky-sweet and super-salty sauce. The crunch and flavor was incredible. This was not your basic grilled teriyaki-basted chicken. I will be dreaming about it for a long time to come. Unfortunately I was only in Newport for work but I’m seriously tempted to drive 6 hours each way for a few more of those skewers. (Lastly, I really want this place to do well — it is NOT expensive. It costs what good sushi costs. Dinner was just as much as our LUNCH at Local Ocean Seafoods, and I thought overall it was a much better meal.)

There were only a few Unilocal reviews of this place, but all rated it highly so I arrived at 1pm on a Tuesday for lunch to try it out. I walked into a completely empty restaurant and was a bit scared! As I walked there, people were everywhere — how could this place be empty and good? Beyond that, I live in Seattle and eat a LOT of sushi! There is a level of trust I need to have before I eat raw fish at a place and seeing an empty restaurant was a serious concern to me. I figured I would give it a shot and was quickly invited to take a seat and provided a menu. The place looked clean(including what I could see of the kitchen), so I decided to take a chance and ordered salmon sashimi, tuna nigiri, scallop nigiri, and a glass of the Oroya Japanese white«sushi» wine(I’ve never had Japanese wine before). I sipped the wine while I waited on my food and found it to be unusual in that it was sort of half sweet and half reminded me of fish sauce. I don’t like fish sauce(alone) or sweet wines, but together they were intriguing. I can’t say I liked it, but I didn’t hate it, either. This restaurant has a great view of the downtown area and some of the bigger fishing vessels. They also have a deck, but it didn’t have any tables on it. I would have loved to sit outside on the deck, but I still had a great view so only a minor disappointment there. It took probably 15 minutes for my food to arrive, which, in my experience, is pretty standard at decent sushi restaurants. The food looked beautiful and tasted better than it looked! This fish tasted SO fresh! Not only that, but the wine that didn’t taste so great alone complimented the food(especially the sashimi) really well. My only minor complaint was the scallop nigiri I ordered actually was(what I know as) a scallop roll. I expected scallop nigiri to be a big piece of scallop on top of rice instead of small pieces of scallop with rice rolled in nori. That said, if my review was based solely on the food, it would be 5 stars. Mentally, I was in sushi paradise, but there were problems with their credit card machine when I attempted to settle the bill. I don’t carry cash, so there had to be some back and forth to figure out how to handle this, which did bring me out of paradise a bit prematurely. Anyways, the card thing was figured out and I left completely confused as to how that place could be empty. As I walked back to my car, I noticed that the average age walking around this restaurant was probably 68 years old, which I believe at least partly explains why this place was empty.(By the way, the menu at Asiatico has plenty of cooked dishes to appeal to the older folks.) Things happen and maybe I’m being stingy with my stars. I’m literally at like 4.4 stars with them. Hopefully I will have an opportunity to visit the next time I’m in Newport and can upgrade this to 5 stars. I fully expect that to be the case because I will be back!

We ordered the alaskan, california and newport roll All very delicious. Smelled very fishy in the restaurant much fishier than you want to pay attention to in a sushi bar. Great wait staff too. We went for my bday and they even gave us a free chocolate cake roll. Kept it under 40 $ for two people. Awesome.

This is my first time here since they’ve moved. Had to come because Sada’s was my favorite place in Newport and Asiatico didn’t disappoint. Still delicious. Still great service. Tried something new; the Asiatico Aphrodisiac. OMG yum.

I have only two complaints about Asiatico. 1. they don’t offer Edamame at all! That’s just crazy talk, and they should remedy that problem ASAP. 2nd they have an absolutely massive selection of sushi rolls! It’s so massive that it really needs to be organized into categories by main ingredients, sauces, level of spiciness… anything that would make it easier to find what you are looking for and make a decision. Other than that, Asiatico is one of the best restaurant options on Bay Blvd. We tried seven different rolls and liked every one of them. They were the perfect size(not so big that it took two bites to eat one piece) and weren’t rolled too loosely. All the fish, eel, crab, and vegetables tasted very fresh. The service was great, and the view from the deck looks awesome, I can’t wait to come back when the weather is nicer so we can eat on the deck. Try the Ty-Ku Coconut Nigori, super different but good.

Yummm! The menu was loaded with a confusing list of rolls, but we were hoping for a bit more variety of styles. so we consulted Chef Jason, and he recommended the Chef’s choice. Chef Jason took great care, crafting a variety of dishes for us. He demonstrated an artful attention to detail, comfortably relaxed pacing, and listened well to our preferences. All were delicious, with subtle, complex flavors and textures. The sake and pomegranate infused pear with avocado cream was the perfect finish.

The new location of the beloved former Sada’s Sushi now at the west end did of the Bay Blvd, it seems like they’re still only in the soft opening phase, but are offering a full sushi menu. I’m also not sure if they’re going by Asiatico or Sada’s Asiatico, but the sushi is as fantastic as ever — fresh, flavorful and fantastic. For those who haven’t been before, the menu is inventive, large and filled with fusion inspired combinations, but centers on great local seafood and the skills of the sushi chef. We tried a couple of the spicier rolls(the Mexican and Cinco de Mayo) and balanced them with old favorites(Newport and Kiska rolls) and some nigiri. The spicy rolls turned out to be our favorite this evening, but we’re sure to try some more new options when we go back again.
