Always fresh, perfectly consistent and our favorite«special» dinner on the coast. My fav is the curried seafood with rice, lemongrass and coconut. One order is enough for two meals for me…

Enjoyed an INCREDIBLE seafood dinner with my boyfriend here at Sharks this Valentine’s Day weekend! A girlfriend raved about them, so we had to check it out. DIDNOTDISAPPOINT! It’s a small, quaint location so come casual! We ordered a President’s Day platter that was enough for us both to share and get full! We just ordered an extra salad. The blue cheese dressing was thick and lumpy, as it should be! The bread was warm, as was the butter! But the seafood… Oh. My. God! Ohmygod. The platter came with 2 lobster tails, shrimp, scallops, and crab. All steamed with white wine, garlic, and butter. We feasted like Kings! Everything was fresh and delicious. Our server was one of the owners, and she insisted we stay for dessert despite that they were closing. There’s no way we’d miss another dinner at Sharks next time we’re in Newport!

I really didn’t want to select one star at all. This place was a joke. My husband wanted sea food and we saw this place had good reviews. This place is filthy! We ordered and waited, and waited, got a soda that tasted like bar soda, then warmed up pieces of Safeway bread which turned out to be my dinner. Husband ordered some type of soup filled with sea food for $ 21.00 that turned out to be the size of a cup of coffe, not much sea food for that price?! Then I got ordinary pasta, no sea food, a simple meal, that turned out to taste like it was frozen for 10yrs before being eaten. We were seated right next to the bathroom door and the waitress was nice, but annoyingly loud and running all over the place since she is the only one there. My high light was waiting for her to fall in her heels running around a sign in the middle of the floor that had no room for it. The people waiting for a seat were all gathered around us standing there, so awekward! Took forever to get more soda and then our check. No I did not pay for the pasta! Filthy place…

Finest food possible anywhere. This should be a chain all over the country. Order cioppino and steamer clams to share with your love!

This place is hands down the best place to eat on the Oregon central coast. Having just moved to the area from California, my wife and I searched far and wide for a new restaurant to call our new stomping ground. This was it. Recommend by locals, we gave this place a shot. And it was fantastic. Super fresh seafood! And fantastic curry’ we’ve lived in the area for a few weeks now and have been back multiple times. The owners are fantastic and the food is great too! Secret spot and delicious without all the hype. Get there early because there’s only a few tables!

Cioppino is wonderful, good wine, reasonable prices. «Intimate,» but very small.

Wow! The food here was nearly inedible! The waitress was very nice, but the food was Safeway«French» bread, store brand pasta sauce, and the seafood stew was a huge mug of cream with a stick of butter and some questionable shrimp clustered on the bottom! We laughed till our bellies hurt and then left cash on the table and ran!

We decided to go to our favorite place for dinner last night, Sharks on Newport’s Waterfront. We have eaten here many time and know that we always get superb food and service. Our party had the following off the menu. My wife had the Seafood Cippino Pasta which comes in a very large bowl filled to the brim with a wide array of fabulous seafood and a luscious tomatoey sauce. Our son had the Garlic linguini that was also served in very large bowl that was filled with pasta and a boat load of bay shrimp and prawns in a wonderful garlicky sauce. My choice was their signature dish the New York Steam Pot. It is served in a huge mug type bowl again filled to the brim with a smooth creamy tomato based broth and was packed with Dungeness Crab legs and back meat, Prawns, Oysters, Bay Shrimp and Cod. This was the first time I had ordered this dish and it was fabulous! For those who choose to come to Sharks you’ll not be disappointed. During our meal we heard parties talking with the waitress and had two parties from Germany and another from Finland. It appears that Sharks reputation is reaching across the Atlantic and into Europe. They open their doors for dinner at 4ish and usually have a line waiting for the doors to open. Since the restaurant only seats about 25 people plan on arriving early and be patient, it’s worth every minute you may wait.

Ate here numerous times & food always very good. If rating food alone, I’d give 4 stars but sometimes it doesn’t matter how good the food is if dining experience is bad. I had to wait to post to calm down or it’d be much worse. We came in & at my husband’s insistence sat at the bar where you can see food being prepared. I asked the owner/chef a question in regards to something he & his wife told us 2 yrs ago. What i was asking was wrong & he flipped out & got very angry. Raised voice saying«I can’t believe you don’t know that»… I asked specifically about what I was told by him. It’s no different than me saying«I can’t believe you don’t know my name by now» but that’s absurd & I wouldn’t expect it. The night was even more fun when I asked about a specific salmon he prepares. He thought I wanted his secret recipe. I know he wouldn’t give that out & I wouldn’t expect it. I tried over & over to ask«Which is the salmon I like so I know when to come in. What would it say on a menu or under special for that day»? Truly that’s all I was asking but he interrupted over & over. I finally gave up and walked out. Sat outside til hubby paid the bill. Again, the food is good but sure as hell NOTGOODENOUGH to be yelled at by the owner. I DON’T WANTYOURRECIPE& I WASN’T ASKINGFORIT. YOU’REHOTHEADEDANDYOULOST A CUSTOMER. Next time, might want to be quiet & let your«guest» finish their question before you jump in and attack!!! BTW, your wife is sweet as can be but way too much for one person. Not her fault but you really need to hire some help.

My fiancée and I were traveling through Newport on a west coast road trip and decided to pop in here for dinner. The name of the place doesn’t suggest fine dining to me and the décor confirmed that point. I, however, not being from the area, tried to go into our meal with an open mind and I expected at least decent seafood based on the previous reviews. We were greeted by a frantically friendly woman behind the bar who seated us and began running us through the menu, strongly urging us to try the cioppino(I did not and would later regret that decision). I asked if they had any oysters, which they did not seem to based on the menu, and she said yes, so we ordered a half dozen. We were shortly thereafter brought what were the most unappetizing oysters I’ve ever seen. They were dry, room temperature, and on a bed of wilted lettuce. I struggled to finish half of them. In the meantime, we had never even been asked to put in a drink order despite there only being another table of four in the entire restaurant, but that ended up being a good thing because I wanted to get out as soon as possible. In all, I was very disappointed with our experience, but I was happy I didn’t get sick. We ended up at the Rogue tap room just down the street in an attempt to salvage the night. I’d very reluctantly go back, but only to try the cioppino.

Maybe the owner should hire some help so she’s not running around like a chicken with her head cut off. The place filled up all at once, we were some of the first ones there so our food was ordered but trying to get hot sauce or water refills or more bread was impossible. And they serve the WORST«Best» Cioppino in the world. It’s a big bowl of sweet(really sweet) tomato soup with some shrimp and fish and A LOT of canned stewed tomatoes for 15 bucks. I added a ton of salt and poured half my water glass into it. Our empty dirty appetizer plate sat in front of us the entire time we ate our meal. We had 2 bowls of soup and combo shrimp crab cocktail and a couple beers for SIXTYFIVE dollars. Save yourself some time and money and don’t bother. They’re making a killing off the food they should at least hire a wait staff to not sacrifice service. When we finally were able to grab her attention to ask for the check she presented it to us without clearing out plates. Come on now, basic server 101 is DONOT present the check with dirty plates still on the table. Karyn was super friendly but in way over her head. I find it greedy that the owners of a place would sacrifice service to keep all the food profits along with table tips for themselves. Hire some help.

An excellent seafood restaurant in a humble setting of Newport historical bay area. There signature Cioppino itself is worth the wait and visit. It is full of flavors and fresh seafood. On our visit we had the Cioppino and the snapper(catch of the day). Both tasted excellent and were very well prepared. The best thing is that all food is steamed, keeping the flavors intact and food healthy. The sitting is limited and the restaurant only opens for dinners(4 – 9 pm). Setting is casual and staff is friendly. Definitely recommended.

Well we came here due to all the great reviews! A little disapointed in menu selection as my husband is a carnivore and they pretty much only had ciopinno, fish stews and lots of pasta! I love ciopinno but this one has a strong sauce! It tasted just like a minestrone soup with a lot of dried basil, not a fan! My husband had the clam linguine it was very watery and not much flavor! We only had 2 days at the coast here from AZ wasted 1 meal here! The presentaion of dishes were very nice however!

We had dinner here in the«off» season, mid-April after most spring breaks were over. It is small and was full, so we ate at the bar, facing a large fish tank. The only waitress seemed to greet everyone by name, spin with a calm efficiency, and made us, as strangers, feel quite welcome and taken care of. The food was very good: great fresh oysters for me and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the cioppino. I also ordered a salad(quite fresh) and a child’s portion of pasta with red sauce(quite tasty). But be warned: the portions here are generous and, for me, it had been easy to order more than I could handle. Next time, I would order in stages. We left smiling and satisfied, as if we, were we to live in Newport, might be welcomed by name after a few more visits. I would return.

If you are looking for a delicious seafood meal, order the cioppino… it is mouth watering delicious and will leave your dreaming of more, more, more. If you’d like it with a little extra carbs you can choose the option with noodles which also comes with mussles. We have dined in and also ordered for take out and the quality of the food is great either way. We prefer take out because the interior is in need of a major face lift and they do not provide high chairs for young children. Plus, the seating is super cramped.
The staff is friendly, efficient and quick. I have had fishermans stew(same type of dish) from Local Ocean and Saffron Salmon and Sharks wins the golden ribbon and by far knocks it out of the park!

Absolutely delicious. Best restaurant I’ve experienced in Newport so far. Sharks’ Curry is my favorite. Spicy but creamy and completely DANK! The owners are a married couple. She is a great, kind hostess and he is mean cook and a boss! Hope this place never leaves and lasts forever.

Sharks is our favorite place to eat on the Oregon coast and we are locals! We always eat ciopinno for Christmas Eve dinner using sharks pre made sauce. This year I completely forgot to buy it and realized that unfortunately, they are closed for a winter break!!! I panicked and emailed them through the website to ask if it was available anywhere else locally. I got a very fast response back offering to meet me at the restaurant around noon on Christmas Eve so I could continue my ciopinno tradition! I’m absolutely blown away at the kindness the owners have shown us. These people represent what a small town business should be. Thank You again, Shark’s! Eat here people!!! Happy Holidays

While touring the Oregon Coast, my fiancée Santi T was very thoughtful to bring me to Newport for a cioppino feast. Initially, we stopped by another restaurant up the street only to learn that it was closed for renovation. We took some pictures in the area, and eventually wandered into this seafood restaurant for dinner. Upon entering, interested diners will notice the divvy interior. The moderate lighting was underscored by an eclectic collection of artifacts from the ocean. The all around blue walls encompassed a bar area that also served as the walkway in-between the dining areas in the front and back of this little shack. Steamed oyster Appetizer($ 11.95) came with 8 Northwest oysters, fruit garnishes, lemon, and cocktail sauce. The oysters were fresh, nicely steamed, and served with fresh garlic. The cocktail sauce wasn’t necessary, but the squeeze of lemon made it a nice opener. Shark’s Cioppino($ 14.95) was a heaping bowl of Cioppino, served piping hot. The red cioppino sauce was filled with dungeness crab, shrimp, prawns, and fish to the brim. The cioppino sauce was made with wine, celery, bell peppers, garlic, tomatoes, and spices to deepen the flavors. The mix of seafood was plentiful, fresh, and delicious with every spoon. At first we thought we weren’t going to have enough and wanted to order the Superbowl(20.95). Our serving turned out perfect for two. Shark’s Curry($ 14.95) was served with lemongrass curry, coconut milk, crab, pink shrimp, clams, coconut shavings, and rice on the bottom. I really enjoyed the amount of seafood in the bowl, but the broth could benefit from additional infusions of lemongrass and clam juice. I enjoyed it, but knew it could be better. Our complimentary bread was fresh, soft, and addictive when accompanied with the serving of olive oil. Our server was from Arizona and she was upbeat, enthusiastic, and very friendly. This turned out to be a comforting meal on a cool breezy day. I’d be very interested in coming back with Santi to try their Pan Roast, Stews, and Gumbos.
