Wanted some local fanfare and decided to try this place. It was pretty delicious. There were no more lobster rolls. Sigh! But we ordered the clobster grilled cheese without the cheese because I wanted something close to a lobster roll. It was pretty tasty but I think it was all crab. The chowder fries were amazing! Everyone said so and hell to the yes! My guy ordered a fish taco and he fish was huge and nicely fried. It was so delicious

Fish is not fresh and tasted like it was frozen for months. Probably comes from China in bulk. Service is substandard and place is a bit dingy. Would rather go to bear flag or wahoos.

Omg. The lobster roll is so so good. It was delicious. The lobster tasted really fresh. But I wished the texture was a little creamier rather than dry. The toast to hold the lobster was buttery and amazing. The chowder fries was oh so good. It was topped with crispy bacon and creamy chowder. Mhmm yum. Overall, everything was good but it’s pretty pricy. –msashleyytee

It’s been a while since I’ve been here. I remember when they were a food truck years back. All the gourmet trucks I frequented had such good food. Everything on the menu looks so good. I decided on fried pickles and the Clobster grilled cheese sandwich. The pickles were cut in little spears breaded then deep fried. I had their Awesome sauce for dipping. I could have eaten them all day long they were so good. The sandwich was a mix of crab and lobster with melted cheese. OMG I bit into this and was in heaven. They had a special item for the weekend that looked so good. It was an oyster with caviar sandwich. I may have to go back and get one. Service was very good. Someone came by twice to see how I was doing. Not many places do this. As soon as a diner leaves they are quick to clean the table. I definitely need to come here more often.

I love the chowder fries! The tacos are great and so is the lobster burger!

Luckily I came on their one year anniversary so they had a fish taco and cup of clam chowder deal for $ 1 each. I also tried the power bowl and chowder fries. Solid 4 stars. Their clam chowder tastes like it has cheese in the mix. Very unique tasting. Generous fish portions! And they have an array of different types of hot sauces. I can definitely appreciate that. Not everyone is a Tabasco lover, so I loved that they had options when it came to sauces.

I hardly write reviews but I was very upset with the quality of the food that I just had to speak my mind. Came here last night with a friend at 8pm for the lobster and carnitas burrito and was sorely disappointed. We ordered two lobster carnitas burritos, and regular fries(because they ran out of chowder for chowder fries) to go and hurried home to dig in. After the first bite, it was a let down. We did not see or taste any lobster in the burritos my friend and I ordered. There was no red chile salsa in there at all. It was just an overpriced, bland carnitas burrito. I only ate half of mine because nothing tasty enough to motivate me to finish. At least the tortilla chips were good. Maybe we came on a bad night. If I wanted a regular carnitas burrito, I would have gone elsewhere. If this was their specialty item for Restaurant Week, they should have executed it better or have some consistency. The place was not even busy. Maybe next time will be a better experience and I’ll order something from their regular menu.

COST: $ 6.50(Chowder Fries) $ 15(Clobster Grilled Cheese) ~$ 15(Lobster Breakfast Burrito Special) Sigh. I’ve been following their Instagram feed for months, and I’ve been dying to try this place out. Coming from LA, it was a little overpowering trekking all the way to OC area to try this place out. I wish I was more satisfied than I am. Look, the food is good and tasted fresh. My problem has more to do with consistency and convergence of the ingredients. Instead, I thought they took great ingredients that didn’t really add up to something special. The best thing were the chowder fries for sure! All main entrees come with a side of fries. I wish I had known that, so we would’ve ordered an actual clam chowder instead. Maybe I’ll come back, actually go swimming in the beaches nearby then eat here. Maybe I need to drink some sea water first!

I’ve been to another location but came here so my boyfriend could try. Again, excellent food. Quality and fresh ingredients always up to par. I got the mahi sandwich and he got the lobster surf and turf burger. Both our meals were devoured quickly!

Got the Lobster Burrito! Here’s what you need to know: –It’s monster size, easy to split up into two meals, and probably big enough to feed four kids or eat if you’re in college with cranked up metabolism. –Loads of lobster and meat, and greasy and messy to boot, because it’s a burrito, so what do you expect Overall, order if you’re hungry. it’s good because who doesn’t like lobster, in any form?! But at the same time, it was simply a burrito with lobster. Not mind-blowing, regular good lobster tasting food.

Sadly, another bad experience — twice in a row. I don’t think I’m going to give this place another chance. Came here to use a $ 50 given to me by the owner which says good at any slapfish from my 1st bad experience. Waited until my hubby was done to finally get my overpriced lobster roll with skinny pieces of fake lobster. The owner Andrew encouraged me to try another location. And now we got denied on our gift card. I’m glad to see you took my advice and added the clobster grilled cheese on the menu. Service stinks. They weren’t even apologetic after we carried our sleeping baby in and got situated. A**holes.

Thought I wrote a review already! Love the lobsters rolls! So fresh & good! Add the slapfish habenaro sauce & it’s even better! I’ve been here several times & everything I got is good. But knew the rolls come with fries so you don’t need to buy more fries. The lobster grilled cheese was also excellent! I would pass on the chowder fries. Thought it was just ok & not a lot of chowder! Rather just have the chowder by itself. Staff/owners, super friendly & nice!

This is one of those chains I don’t mind, well except for their really high price. Thankfully, I got to try this place on Newport Restaurant week. Lobster toast: 4⁄5 free with Unilocal Check-In. The small bites are a great way to start your meal. They chop up lobster and mix it with their sauce then place it on a bite size crostini. Appetizing! Chowder fries: 4⁄5 chowder and fries made a good mix. I could of done away with the egg(I know what I’m saying is a sin) as the chowder itself was a good«sauce» as opposed to breaking the runny egg yolk. If they were to keep the egg, I’d prefer the cup to be wider so you could actually mix the egg in. Fries were crispy and hot. Good starter. Grinder Roll: 4.5÷5 I couldn’t actually find this on their menu, but this was my favorite food. They mix lobster and shrimp in their house sauce and stuffed in their roll. A bit too much bread, but quite delicious. Lobster Roll: 3⁄5 This roll was all lobster, no sauce. I assume so you can appreciate the taste of lobster alone. It was good, not great. I would of enjoyed the sauce on this. First couple bites into the roll was all bread. Ultimate Fish Taco: 2.5÷5 This was my least favorite. Beautifully presented, but lacking in flavor for me. Sauce was dripping out whenever I picked it up or tried to take a bite. Needless to say, I just picked at the fish a bit and pushed the rest to the side. Customer service here is amazing! A lot of places can learn from this place. Overall, great experience.

Fish tacos are generous and cooked perfectly. I preferred the grilled vs. Fried even though I do love me some fried fish. Lobster taquitos worth a try and the bisque was terrific. Excellent service, great food and perfect location before a walk down the pier.

This is the first time Ive come to this Newport Beach location. I usually go to the Laguna Beach location which I do think is better. My boyfriend and I split half of the warm butter lobster roll and cold awesome sauce lobster roll. I liked the awesome sauce roll better. The warm butter lobster roll tasted a little rubbery or over cooked. We also ordered the chowder fries and fried pickles. I didn’t care for either. The chowder would be good on its own but when it gets cold on cold fries it’s no good. I was expecting small pickle slices but they were actually large spears which were hard to eat when the batter falls off. I really enjoyed my first Slapfish experience in Laguna, so I would go back to that location again. It is a bit pricy.

Today was my first time trying the SF Newport location. I had tried the Laguna Beach location and had really liked the food so we thought we should go back. We got the chowder fries, the ultimate burrito and the fish & chips along with the free lobster toast upon check in… I have to say that the fries is to die for. The lobster toast was tasty and the fish N chips can easily feed 2 people. The burrito, I am afraid I can not talk that highly about. It felt too heavy for my taste but again if I were rating this place just based on food, I would have not deducted any stars. So why 3 stars instead of 5? Two reasons: First: I saw a little sign on the entrance door saying«No public restrooms», but unfortunately the employees don’t mandate that at all. While we were dining there, there were at least 15 people who just walked in and went straight to the restroom and came out. One couple actually had two big bags of Subway in their hands. It could have not been more obvious that they were not the SF customers! So you might say, «why am I so annoyed by this?». Well it is because right after we ordered our food, I went to wash my hands, and there was no paper towel to dry my hands. An employee went to add more paper towel after I got out of the bathroom, which by then 3 people were waiting. So I thought I can go back and wash my hands again in couple of minutes. Well that never happend. Because the line was getting longer and longer, thanks to the non-customers using the bathroom! Second reason why I gave this place a 3 stars is because I noticed that there was really nobody who would bring the food to the tables. Meaning that the cashier, was also the employee who would bring the food to tables. One of the problems with this picture is that the cashier touches dirty Bills and Credit Cards… I even noticed that she sneezed on her hand and did not wipe it or wash it or anything and continued with the transaction and next thing I know, yes, she was bringing me my tray of food… ewwww… Right?! It is not rocket science… More floor staff is needed for this business… The poor cashier can not do everything including, ringing the customers, sweeping the floor, cleaning the tables, bringing the food to the tables, stucking up on restroom items, etc!

Pretty awesome place to grab lunch. When we found out about the chowdah fries we just had to stop by and give them a try. Location and parking was super easy and there was plenty of seating inside. We received very friendly service and the girl helped us make up our minds. Finally settling on a lobster roll, fish taco and of course chowdah fries lol. The lobster roll was good, I thought the bread was perfect for this type of sandwich and the filling was tasty. The fries were good too, I can’t believe it took me so long to mix fries with clam chowder lol but its a nice mix. And finally the fish tacos. I really enjoyed them here. Nice fresh fish and good garnish really made them stand out. If I end up back here I would for sure get the fries and fish tacos again.

$ 15 for a Lobster roll(Market Price) with fries. I can’t recall the price on the chowder fries… I was disappointed with the Lobster roll with hot cajun butter — I had little crunchy bits of either dirt or some shell. — 1 star The chowder fries were pretty good, but I found a large raw piece of potato in them. I originally thought they dropped a piece of raw potato on accident, but it became clear to me after that it was an undercooked potato in their chowder. –1 star. Overall: A little pricey, but not unreasonable. The food is okay, but they lost 2 stars based on the mistakes listed above.

I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now and now that I have, I just thought this place was okay. I feel like this is a hyped up place that has mediocre food with a high price. Yes I understand that lobster is expensive in itself but my god, it is freaking expensive! I’ve paid $ 22 for a lobster roll before but it tasted way better than this. The lobster roll varies in price depending on the day that you come so it will say MP for Market Price. I also got the clobster grilled cheese($ 15) and that is half crab and lobster, tomato, and their awesome sauce. I thought that the first bite was pretty good but after that it got kind of disgusting and heavy. The one thing that I did enjoy was the New England Clam Chowder($ 6). It had red potatoes, clams, and bacon in it. This was pretty good but sort of small for $ 6. The restaurant itself has a parking lot. It was pretty empty on a Saturday early afternoon as well. All in all, I probably would not come back here just because of the steep prices.
