Pick Up Stix

I want to recommend pick up stix in Newport Beach but I can’t. The food for To go is sub par. Beef is ground beef, chicken is very small fried pieces. I would love it if it changes! Thanks!

The only good experience about this visit was the ease of ordering online, and how nice the staff was when I walked into the place.
I decided to order lunch online today. I ordered the House Tofu lunch special and requested «easy sauce». Good grief! There was so much sauce drowning the fried rice. Absolutely disgusting. I cannot tell you if the rice was any good, because it was tasted like the disgusting brown sauce. Every 1 – 2 years I give Pick Up Stix a try, hoping it has improved. NOPE! Still too salty and everything gets drowned in a brown sauce, This most definitely is not the place (or any Pick Up Stix, for that matter) to go if you want to enjoy your food. If food is simply fuel and you have no taste buds, then perhaps this will satisfy your hunger.

Great location, it’s close to a lot. It’s pretty clean, but the food is just okay. And they wait time for the food is a bit long. Ordered a soup and some orange chicken, the soup was flavor-​less and just tasted like cabbage. The chicken was dried out but covered in sauce almost like they were trying to make up for it. I will say, they have great iced tea and really yummy fried rice! I only go here now if I have a really good coupon and I don’t order chicken since it’s been dry 3 times, go with the beef it’s better.

One word — Gross!
Wrong noodles and way to much sauce. The chicken in the soup, I had to pull it out of my mouth. Tasted precooked then frozen and then reheated. The veggies tasted like a shoe smell!

Clean, quickly prepared, delicious, and great/​helpful staff! Totally digging this restaurant, and I would definitely pay another visit when I’m wanting some fresh Asian cuisine. fun fact: fortune cookies were invented by Americans and most Chinese people living in China don’t know what it is!

Had the veggie feast with the dark sauce, it was very good. I’m not sure if they use that sauce for anything else but if not, they definitely should!
The fried rice was pretty good too. So was the service.
Very nice quick convenient meal. I’ll definitely be going back.

Waited 15 minutes for service at 4pm 3÷14÷2015. It was slow so there was not excuse.. Will never comeback-​the lady at the register was not interested in helping customers. Either she’s a family member of the owner or someone that needs to be fired!

The 5 stars are for Crystal at the counter. She knows the meaning of customer service, and should be working somewhere else because she deserves to be paid her worth. She is friendly, accommodating with special requests making it work the way a customer wants it. She is also knowledgeable, and helpful to everyone coming in. I hope management is aware of her qualities and compensates accordingly or move her into management. Oh, and the food delish.

If your looking for a clean meal this is the place, quick and easy food is great. The staff is always friendly and fast, cool little place they have a tv playing and the place is small and quaint. They have outside seating so I recommend sitting outside

I came in for the first time over the weekend due to all my co workers talking about how good it is. I have to say that the Honey Chicken is delicious, not to mention the customer service was awesome! Didn’t have to wait a long time for my food, and the girl who took my order was polite, friendly and offered water for my wait. i give it over all 4 stars… five if there was more seating.

Poor takeout service. No fork in the bag and got to my place to eat bad Chinese food with my hands

Ordered the garlic shrimp lunch combo with noodles:
First of all WAY TOO MUCH sauce. It takes away from the garlic shrimp flavor and taste. I wasn’t even able to taste the garlic, which is the main reason for getting this entrée.
The noodles were okay. Not my favorite.
Cheese wonton could have been crispier.
Only plus was the friendly workers.
I would suggest maybe getting rice? Maybe it won’t have as much sauce.

The customer service was excellent the people are nice and the girl that took my order was new and very helpful. The food however was bland and tasteless. Not much flavor in the Orange chicken in the to go box was filled with Orange peels and chillies. The food was just not very good and not worth the 21 dollars I paid.

This is usually one of our favorite Friday night take-​out dinners, but last night was disgusting! I don’t know what is going on, but the chow mein was dark brown almost black. The flavor was totally off, the house chicken which is a huge fave in our house was bland and did not look the same t all, and the chicken chow mein had large fatty pieces of chicken. I would love to give them a second chance, as they are in our neighborhood, but after last night none of us really think we will. Sooo disappointed!

Although I usually only ever order 1 thing from here — that 1 thing is what keeps me coming back. House Special Chicken is my jam! I always order it ‘well done, spicy, with extra sauce’. If you eat it there instead of taking it home then the chicken will likely still have a little crunch to it from the ‘well done’ part of the order which makes it really good! The spicy isn’t too spicy, and the sauce is delicious so you can smother your rice with whatever you have left.
They seem to come out with new dishes rather often so maybe one day I’ll venture out and try something different. I just hate the possibility of being disappointed!

The manager is a total jerk and retarded on top of it… got nothing. tried staring me down and making me feel uncomfortable because i was smirking that he kept asking the same thing over and over as if its rocket science. …tried ordering 2, count em, 2 things… big hairy deal. I said tofu and veggies with rice noodles and sweet and sour, so he asks if i want the noodles plain… I said no corn so he’s like, can u have corn starch? Then he says he’s the manager after I ask to speak to one because he wanted to start over from the beginning after 5 minutes of repeat repeat repeat repeat…

Great service, great food!

VEGETARIAN & VEGAN FRIENDLY… GOTTA LOVE IT
I always liked Pick Up Stix but I’m especially impressed now now that they have tofu substitutions. I am very thankful for restaurants that take the extra step to show respect for alternative dietary choices. Please note that the Kung Pao sauce has milk in it — which the girl at the counter was kind enough to look up for me when I told her I didn’t eat dairy. She also helped me find a sauce that was vegan — she was wonderful and next time I eat there I will get her name and put it on here.
So you avoid dairy/​honey or other animal products, you might want to ask before ordering. They can look up the ingrediants for you.
Normally I don’t like to promote fast food because it’s not necessarily healthy food, but I think it’s important to spread the word about those restaurants that are making the effort to provide vegetarian options that go beyond the garden salad.

I called for a delivery order the other night and thought I would try out their family pack meal thingy. When I was done ordering, the girl that was taking my order told me that it would be about 45 minutes before the food would arrive. I told her that I was just being lazy and I could come pick it up instead because it would only be about a 20 minute wait and the bf was STARVING to death.
Fast forward 20 minutes — I arrive at Pick Up Stix to get my bag of yummy goodness at the phone order counter. I let her know my name and I start to get a little nervous because she starts looking all over the place and nothing has my name on it. Hmmmm. She asks me again what I ordered and I tell her a double order of house special beef (yum yum yum) in the family pack. She brings in another girl and she asks me if it was originally a delivery order and I tell her yes. Ends up that my food was out for delivery on its way to my house and I was at the restaurant to pick it up.
The girl that helped me out (I feel so bad that I didn’t get her name) was so apologetic. It really wasn’t that big of a deal and I didn’t mind waiting for the delivery person to bring back the food to the restaurant because I was told that she literally just walked out the door. She offered me a free drink and I told her that I was fine and she also gave me a voucher for a free entrée for next time. Nice!
Fast forward less than 5 minutes — Delivery girl walks in the front door with a HUGE bag of food and hands it to me. I go up to the counter to pay and of course there are brownies right by the cash register staring at me. I asked the same girl (probably the manager) if she had tried them and she let me have the brownie no charge. Wow. Then, to top it off, she gave me 25% off my bill. I mean, who does that? It seems like the customer is never right anymore and customer service is a thing of the past. I was completely caught off guard by how above and beyond she went for me.
Long story short — Totally impressed by this place. I’ve been eating here on and off for the past 7 years. Love the house special beef and I’ll be back here for some more.

I adore Pick Up Stix. They were once in Illinois, but closed all stores. They were also in Las Vegas, but closed all stores. So we had to seek them out on our California vacation.
This restaurant was great: it was clean, the staff was very friendly, and the food was fantastic. We had orange peel tofu, house special tofu, cream cheese wontons, and veggie eggrolls. The orange peel tofu was the best I have ever had, and I have had this dish dozens of times at other Pick Up Stix.
Althougth this restaurant is 1989 miles from my house, I will definitely go back the next time I am in LA.
