First time I came on a weekday food was good and service was great. Second visit on a weekend was horrible. Had reservations with out of town guests and they were massively overbooked. Several others had their reservations screwed up along with us. Poor management. terrible customer service… just stay away until they learn how to run a restaurant. As I write this many are standing around wondering what the hell a reservation means. At this place… nothing!

Upscale looking half bar, half restaurant. Food was terrific. I was very satisfied with the blackened catfish. Perfect amount of food for my modest appetite. Maybe a bit expensive, but cheaper than hotel food and better. Thought it was strange not having someone greet us upon entry, but it was a Monday night.

The Park Place Bistro experience was very odd. Upon entering, the restaurant looks like an upscale bistro, quaint and cute. One of the two servers working the lunch hour(12:30) on a Saturday sat us, while showing us to our table she informed us that three other tables just walked in before us, there were only two servers, it may take a minute. The service was indeed very slow. The restroom was unorganized and the toilet paper was sitting on top of the dispenser, not in it, there was no trash bag in the can. Onto the food. They tried too hard on the hummus, large chunks of some kind of cheese and whole black olives were put in the hummus, it was unlike any other hummus I’ve ever had. And then came the brisket hash, I was shocked based on the rest of my experience. The brisket was well cooked and flavorful, my medium well eggs were cooked to perfection, i couldn’t get enough of the brisket hash, it was delectable. I’m hoping to give it another chance in the future. Perhaps the representation of being unorganized comes from someone calling off or another unforeseen circumstance. The hash tells me that they must have a pretty good idea of how to run a restaurant.

I wasn’t going to post the first time I ate here, even though I was furious when I left. The first time my friend and I ate here, it was the worst dining experience of my life. And I eat out 5+ times a week. We were the only people in the restaurant after a group of 5 men left. There was a couple at the bar as well. We waited about 15 minutes before Tiffany took our drink order. We waited another 10 for water. I had to ask for my coke 10 minutes beyond that after flagging down Tiffany. I ordered an open face turkey sandwich and my friend got the pulled pork. They came out on sizzling plates and the portions were large. The pulled pork had no sauce on it at all. The turkey sandwich was a piece of soggy bread, grease, hunks of cheddar cheese and slimy turkey. I could only force a few bites down. We waited about 45 minutes before flagging down the bartender and asking if Tiffany left for the night. The bartender yelled across the restaurant to the kitchen, TIFFANY”! Which was answered with a «WHAT?!», before the bartender shrugged dramatically. Tiffany comes out from the kitchen chewing food and stinking of cigarettes. We tell her that the food was not good. She seems annoyed and tells us that she will have to see what she can do. She acts as though we are asking a lot but manages to remove one of the sandwiches off the bill but still charges for the fries. We have been at the restaurant about an hour and a half by this point so we are still starving. And I am livid. I saw the bartender carrying a huge carrot cake so I order a piece. Our piece is not as large but still delicious. Tiffany manages to muster up some manners and personality when she brings us our bill. She’s like a whole new person when she knows it’s time to tip. I went back today to treat my mother to the carrot cake. The place was busy due to the midland having a show. The brunette waitress with glasses was very very friendly. But we waited 15 minutes for a piece of a small, stale, dry carrot cake that cost $ 9. I will go buy an entire cake from the grocery store next time. I will never give the Park Place Bistro my time or money again!

This place is excellent! Food and service is easily equal to Brios! Quality is consistent, good atmosphere, comfortable! Happy to say it’s worth trying! We’ve had brunch and lunch there… shrimp & grits had a smooth, cheesy flavor to the grits, while the shrimp had a great tomato-based sauce. really flavorful! We’ve also had their vegetable salad, containing Brussels sprouts, broccoli, carrots, sugar snap peas, all chopped… nice slightly sweet dressing. good! Also tried their carrot cake, which was huge, but good! We plan on going back soon! We highly recommend this restaurant! Lunch today was good! Really wish they would bring back the shrimp and grits! It was outstanding!

Our first time here coming from Columbus for the Clint Black show. So great! Atmosphere is awesome; old school meets classy and updated. Our food was wonderful(Chorizo nachos, Park Place salad and Tenderloin… cooked to perfection)…hats off to the chef from another chef! Robert the bartender was AWESOME! We will ever back! Congrats on a great execution!

I travel for work and have the opportunity to eat at many wonderful restaurants, I was in Newark to meet my girlfriends for dinner and Park Place did not disappoint! I ordered the NY strip and it was cooked to perfection, my margarita was delicious(I am a Texas girl, so you can say I am picky about my margaritas), the service was excellent… an all around great experience!

Went here today to use a gift card we received for Christmas. We were a little apprehensive after reading the reviews but thought why not, it’s free. We were pleasantly surprised! We were seated right away and our waitress came over almost immediately. She brought a pitcher of water and left it all(nice because we drink a lot). I ordered the hot brown and French onion soup. Both were only $ 10. Not pricey at all. The hot brown was wonderful! Perfect for a cold dreary day. The onion soup was really good. They had taken the time to develop the broth… so so good! The husband order the portobello fries(and loved them!) Along with a side salad. He said he liked the combo of cranberries and blue cheese with balsamic vinaigrette and the salad was not over dressed. I only gave it 4 stars because they are onto something with the portobello fries but it needs a different dipping sauce. Catsup just doesn’t go. And I really don’t get why restaurants like this can’t do a bit more with hot tea. At 2.25 go the extra mile and make it a little special… make it a treat.

We were there as a family on a Sunday. The portobello fries and nachos were great. The bacon wrapped shrimp was good but pricy considering there were only 4. The kids enjoyed buttered and/or elbow noodles with marinara. The fries were very good. The pecan crusted trout was nicely done as was the hot brown. The crab cake was under seasoned and the hollandaise sauce was overwhelming seasoned with tarragon on the breakfast hash. I had the chicken pappardelle and the sauce was nothing more than pasta water with a splash of white wine– very disappointing dish. Not sure we will return.

First time in Newark and quickly found this downtown gem. Clean, classy bistro that has very reasonable prices for the fabulous brunch I had. Ordered brisket hash with a fried egg. They were out of brisket and suggested a short rib replacement which was excellent. Everything was really nicely cooked. The crème brûlée was delicious(loaded with yummy vanilla seeds) and well worth 6 bucks. Food came surprisingly fast and our server Taylor was splendid. Music was an odd mix for brunch but otherwise a great discovery that I hope to return to.

We went for brunch because we saw that they offered it and had been reading about this place in the paper. It was not a very enjoyable experience for us at all. Upon entering the place shared the same old stinky building smell that a lot of these downtown locations share. The décor is nice but I wasn’t really sure what they were going for? The brunch prices were a little on the high side. We knew going in that this place was trying to be more upscale so we knew to expect it. We both ordered the pot roast topped with eggs. I ordered my eggs fried which usually means over hard. The server asked if I wanted mine just how they come so I told her no, I want mine over hard and to pop the yolks. I guess she didn’t understand because when our dishes came out, both were both over easy. My husband started eating right away to find that his dish was cold! When I started poking around I found that mine was cold too. About this time the server came back and I told her that my eggs weren’t right and she grabbed my dish and walked away before I could say it was cold. This next bit had me upset. When my dish came back out, it was still cold but this time the chef had taken my already cooked eggs and put them back on the griddle!!! Eggs take three to four minuets to cook. What I got back was an even colder dish with two hard rubbery eggs on it. My husband was finished eating at this point. The portions were small. The pot roast itself was lacking any seasoning. We finished our meal with a piece of carrot cake that was ridiculously large. I mean comically large. It was unnecessary really. We might return, we might not. Idk. We told our server about our experience but she didn’t seem to care and didn’t offer any type of solution. After a first visit like that it doesn’t make one want to return. *My only positive– the cream cheese icing on the king size carrot cake was AMAZING!

Great service at noon on a Saturday! Salmon entrée was the best; the steak salad was so good. Roasted cut up vegetables and a perfect steak with fresh salad greens. The bread pudding was the best ever!

1st time we came here was 9÷6÷15 service was excellent our party of 5 enjoyed their food,(salmon, waffles & turkey sandwich all good) Now on to the bad review 1 week later we return we had a different server(Tiffany) she seemed to care less. 1 order was sent back biscuits & gravy(tasteless and the eggs overcooked) she had that removed from the bill. But never asked if we wanted anything else. So we now have a group of 4 and only 3 of us with meals. As we sat there another table had sent 4 plates of food back and the manager was talking to them as we left.

We went the opening week and while the service was a bit slow and inattentive, we knew they were busy and are hoping they’ve worked the kinks out before we head back. I had a watermelon mojito that was very delicious and the chicken pappardelle pasta. My husband enjoyed a margarita and the buttermilk fried chicken. The music could also use some updating to match the atmosphere. Overall a great place to head for dinner and drinks.

It was OK. I kind of got the overall impression that they made the prices high and shrunk the portions down to look classy. I got the soup of the day, a strawberry gin, and the shrimp and grits. On paper, the bacon wrapped shrimp and grits sounded good. But I was honestly disappointed. For 17 dollars I got two 2x2x.25 inch block of fried grits/polenta squares. Then 5 pieces of shrimp with a little bacon around it, and what looked like a pinch of goat cheese in a tomato sauce. My $ 8 dollar drink was smaller then the size of my fist and was loaded with ice and strawberries, and a shot of gin. The soup was good tasting, while whole potatoes, and a good base broth from what I could tell. But it was 5 dollars for a few pieces of potato and quarter inch deep bowl of soup. Tasty, but small. My boyfriend had the salmon, soup and a mojito. Mojito, he said, tasted very weak. He said the fish tasted fine, but nothing special. Prices for what you get will probably push me from ever revisiting. The atmosphere is nice, kind of open, with old and new nicely blended together. Although vaguely familiar, I kinda giggled when I’d finished a glass of water and realized where I’d seen the décor before. IKEA. The service was good too, forgetful but friendly and prompt. But Newark is a small town, and by comparison to the options seems like a viable option.
