Overall consider food pedestrian. Onion straws on top of mediocre filet were cold.

Good food, service and atmosphere on a saturday night for our party of 6. we had reservations and were seated promptly. We had no complaints on our steaks and other entries. The only glitch we had was at the bar prior to being seated. Couldn’t get a drink to save our lives. We had empty seats on either side of us. Not busy at all. Hope to return soon.

I’ve been here about 5 times over the course of a year. The first time I got fish and chips(fries) and the fries were great, as was the tartar but the fish was average. Every other time I’ve been I get the steak salad. My partners have always got different things – sandwiches, salads,(no steak) and they’ve always said it was good but not rave worthy. I absolutely love the steak salad – when it’s prepared right! I’ve always gone at lunch time and it’s never busy, sometimes I’ve been the only person there and there’s never been more than 2 other seatings. But, the first time I went, someone on my group wanted the tuna tartare and they said it wasn’t thawed. They ordered a salad with salmon and the server came back to say they didn’t have the salmon. The third time I went they didn’t give me the onion crunchies on my salad and didn’t say anything, when I asked they said they didn’t have any made. The fourth and fifth time I went they also served my salad with missing ingredients and never mention it, when I bring it up the waitress will say that it’s not made yet or they stopped serving that item on the salad – then they come back and say the chef hasn’t made any of it that day. Essentially I think this restaurant has a few spectacular menu items, if you want an «experience» order those special items(steak, tartare, pork filet, dessert), otherwise be prepared to pay slightly more for regular fare. However, the service and the actual served entrée may differ greatly depending on time of day and the whims of service and chef.

VERY good food, great atmosphere. My husband and I both had steaks, I had the ribeye and he had the porterhouse, both were perfectly prepared. The service was excellent. We got the garlic butter mushrooms, which were so perfect with the steaks. My husband absolutely loved the house salad. We will definitely be coming back to The Chop House.

Absolutely love the Mac & Cheese!!! Crave it! They have recently added delicious garlic rolls, too! A great place for dinner, especially if going downtown to enjoy a show at the Midland Theatre.

We spent our anniversary dinner here with 10 of our closest friends. They had a wonderful square table set up for us in the back room. The food AND service where excellent!!! 12 happy customers. Thanks.

I did only come for lunch and got the burger, but I was a little disappointed. The burger was sizeable but lacked great flavor expected from The Chop House. I guess I’ll only come back for dinner.

I went, I ate, I was disappointed. I know, Newark Ohio… I did have good food there, paid tons less. I was so bummed :( This might be considered by some as a bashing. If you think that read my other reviews. I do not bash I try to accurately represent my experience, MYEXPERIENCE. Food is very subjective so take this with the grain of salt all so mentioned… I was really looking forward to enjoying this establishment, really looking forward to it. We ordered the french onion soup, no cheese melted on top of the croutons. I use the word loosely, more like stale bread. I took a croûton out and put it on the plate it was so hard, even after sitting in the hot soup? When the waitress came back with four of the other six dishes we ordered she asked if the croûton was hard. I banged my spoon on it and it made a dull thud sound. Her remark, «yeah, they are a little hard sometimes». Nothing like, «I’ll take that off your check», «Let me buy you dessert», I’ll let the kitchen know”… nothing just put the rest of the food on our table. I’m a big boy, I wont ding a place because of one dish or one interaction. The wait staff and Managment were very friendly otherwise. Every dish we tasted was extremely disappointing. Seafood mac and cheese contained those small salad shrimp and formed crab :( Jumbo Lump Crab cakes, not so many lumps and gooey inside with to much breading. Dusted Scallops — were actually encrusted with coconut and some panko type seasoned breadcrumbs under pickled red onions(some would call compote, this was not), on top of some balsamic sauce. Thankfully we asked them to hold off putting our steak order in cause we had all night. You might say, you were in a steak house, why not judge them on the steak. After five misses on the other plates(Mind you the Crab cakes were from the entrée menue) why would I give them a sixth chance? Hey, who knows, it could have been just me, it could have been an off night…

I travel constantly for business and was really surprised to find this restaurant in this town. The owner clearly takes pride in his food & bar and aesthetics of the establishment. Hand stuffed gargonzola olives; fantastic house salad and frenched pork chop… what a pleasant surprise. Minus ½ star for service that was somewhat slower than usual, but the food made up for it!

I had lunch at the Chophouse while on a break from the Midland the other day. I thought the dining room was nice. Big round booths, clean lines, good light. The bar looks cozy, unfortunately it wasn’t beer-thirty, so I didn’t get to check it out. I had blackened chicken with penne and Alfredo sauce. Not exactly a revelation, but everything was perfectly cooked and I enjoyed my meal. The coffee was also good, this is a big deal for me when I’m doing a show for obvious reasons. Our group took up five or six tables all at once, the servers did a great job taking care of us considering they weren’t expecting us for another two hours, kudos to the entire staff. My meal was comped, it would have been $ 8.50 if I had paid for it. For that price I’d want a vegetable or salad at lunchtime along with the meal. I really hope I get to have lunch there again next time I’m working in Newark.

This place is a gem in the middle of, well, nowhere. I suppose that since I’m a big city-slicker, I do consider Newark to be the middle of nowhere and even after living in Columbus for 13 years, I’d never even considered driving to this town until this past Saturday night. I had friends in from out of town and wanted them to experience a great meal. Caveat: the head chef is a personal friend of mine. Still, this place has it going on, regardless of who you know or don’t know. Service was fantastic from the start and the simple yet classy décor was enough to start our gustatory experience off on a positive note. We sampled four appetizers: Red Pepper Hummus, Risotto Balls, Dusted Scallops and the Ahi Tuna and Avocado Tartare. While all of the apps were great, the tuna was absolutely to die for. Served with giant won-tons and fresh wasabi, this dish perfectly primed my palate for the lovely meaty meal to come. I’m generally not a huge fan of raw fish in any capacity, but this app fantastic and so worth the $ 12 price. Don’t skip it. For the entrée, I chose the Frenched pork chop with sweet corn potato ragout and bourbon molasses BBQ glaze. I’m usually a steak woman but that night I was craving meat, but pig and not cow. The pork chop did not disappoint. Dense but not tough, this large chop was smothered in the most fantastic BBQ sauce I think I’ve ever had and sitting on a ragout that I could only dream of. I took half the entrée home in order to save plenty of room for dessert. My party sampled four desserts and shared them: Triple Layer Chocolate Fudge Cake, Vanilla Crème Brulee, the Chocolate Cream Puff and the house-made NY Style Cheesecake. All were fantastic but the cheesecake, as it were, stood alone as the definitive winner in my book. The cake is made in-house and comes with a fresh berry compote that will rock your socks off. Rich and creamy yet not heavy, this is one of the finest cheesecakes I’ve tasted. I regularly indulge my cheesecake craving at some of the finest delis in Columbus(i.e, Katzinger’s), and the Chophouse’s cheesecake blows the competition away. 50 minutes to the middle of small-town Ohio may seem like a long drive for a weekend meal when you’ve got the multiplicity of options in the Columbus dining scene, but believe me, it’s worth it. Newark may not really be offering up anything else of value but the food in this restaurant can easily match fine dining in any major city.
