Absolutely horrific. Portion size is way below average and I’ve had an instance of undercooked meat.

It seems like there is a new owner… Last Sunday I ordered chicken Katsu @ 8:30pm and the cook made it as ordered and freshly cooked(3 Stars)… Today I ordered the same thing, just didn’t want the rice or Mac salad(no wasting) and ordered one extra Katsu sauce… This seemed to confuse them… After chatting with the cook the order was taken and paid for… While waiting I didn’t hear any cooking going on so that kept me curious… After about a 10 minute wait my order appeared on the counter… Happily I took my food and off I went… Shame on me for not being more curious and checking my order before I left… #1 I didn’t get the extra Katsu sauce I paid for and #2 the chicken Katsu was not freshly cooked… The first few pieces(on top) were okay but upon further inspection it appeared that the chicken had been cooked and kept warm in an oven or heating lights… The chicken was a little too crunchy and dried out… Not coming back to this place during the week… Will check to see who’s cooking first if I ever do…

The cashier was so rude! She told me that the kitchen closed in 10 mins but she didn’t tell us the we can’t eat inside. When We Got our food, I asked the cashier if we can eat inside. The cashier told us «we are closing in 5 mins, it’s up to you if you can eat in 5 mins» She put our foods in the bag and she didn’t even give us any utensils.

Went here thinking that all L&L’s are the same. So NOT true. Had the loco moco. They use super cheap fatty hamburger, so be ready for a bunch of chewy fat globs in your mouth. The gravy was ok. The macaroni, which I normally love, had zero flavor. They served the food on those cheap foam dixie plates. It was entirely unappealing even though I was really hungry. I’ve never walked away from a loco moco plate that was not empty, but I took about 5 bites and was disgusted and dissapointed so much, that I just got up and left. Almost $ 8.00 for that gross food. Never will I go to this place again.

Is spam masubi supposed to have the smallest piece of spam ever and be mostly rice… Because that’s what they give you here. At least it was under $ 3. The chicken katsu never disappoints. I’ll have to stick with what works if I come back here.

This place is a rip off. They take forever to make your food. Very small portion. Do not get masubi here, all you will get is rice and seaweed wraps. I have picture to show it.

L & L was a default place to eat since most eateries not open sunday morn. large range of hawaiian faves to choose from. eats chicken curry katsu(L.7.75) subbed brocculli for rice –mac salad, brocculli both bland. brocculli previously frozen? –chicken curry katsu just a dash of curry, katsu chewy not tender, tasteless, overgrilled. may have been left over from previous night. crumbs: –lots of food but poor quality greasy food, bland sides –service not a problem remember to get own fork and napkin, not provided. 2.5 stars. minimium standard for quality eats not met. –other specials posted on wall behind cashier.

I’ve been here twice and on both times I had to wait a good 10 min to get my food. The food is alright not the best. They charge extra for anything even if you want to pay with your debit card you also have to pay a .79 cent fee. The lady in the front is not so friendly. They charged me $ 1 more for brown rice and gave me white then she also gave me shrimp instead of chicken. Not coming back anytime soon.

I love Hawaiian barbecue but this place has gotten it so wrong on so many levels. The meat was tough, dry and overcooked. Their seasoning was terrible and the portions were small. I’ve yet to experience good food in this shopping center… seems like the quality of their food and customer service in this niche part of Newark is all equally terrible. There must be some correlation. I wonder if bad food is just good enough for people that just need anything to eat and have a crunch lunch time… I guess bad food is better than no food to a starving person…

When this place first opened up it was exactly what I would want out of a Hawaiin fast food spot. More recently prices have increased and quality has fallen a bit. I wish I would have taken a picture of the Spam Masubi — it was pretty much a brick of rice and a sliver of spam. A really dinky masubi was the first surprise, the second one was that they forgot to give me the sauce for my Chicken Katsu. I know that I should’ve asked, but damn… I ended up eating the chicken with ketchup/Sriracha when I got home. Overall this place was a huge let down during my last visit and I won’t be coming back any time soon.

I wish I could give a zero star review. Thanks for ruining a 6 year old’s birthday, fuck heads. Ordered catering for pickup today(4÷25÷15) for 12:30PM. Showed up at 1 and the place is closed. Called the number, no answer. Knocked on the door, nothing. Other people showed up and tried to going in and they looked confused as to why it was closed. So signage on the door stating why it was closed. Never eating here again!

This place was better years ago. I should have known by the two stars.. DUH!!! I wanted the macaroni which was good, you can’t mess that up easily. BBQ chicken had way too much fat and skin and the chicken katsu was thin with too much breading and overly fried like tough. The owners must be trying to cut costs. Also the teriyaki sauce was disgusting not sure how to explain the flavor but really gross.

So I’m not usually big on reviewing chains or franchises, but this one is special because it’s probably the worst L&L I’ve ever been to. Two stars because the food was at least edible and they didn’t actively try to piss me off. –Prices here are much higher than other plate lunches– and even other L&L’s. –The fryer was broken so I couldn’t get any chicken katsu. –It took over 30 minutes to get my food, and they were not busy at all. –The whole restaurant in general is just less than clean. –No credit cards accepted, and they charge a fee to use your ATM card. –[I took my food to go and when I got home, turns out that] they screwed up my order, too! There are plenty of other places to get wayyy better plate lunches, so it’s definitely worth driving a couple of miles past here to go to another — any other — place for plate lunch.

Simply put — L & L Hawaiian Barbecue is ok but nothing that stands out. I went here with my wife for a late lunch & this was the closest to us. We were the only customers there yet your order took long. Their was only one person working both register and grill so I guess that was a valid reason. Good was good but a bit over priced plus they charge .79¢ to use ATM.

I don’t know if this place is under new management or what, but the food is AWFUL now. Ordered a chicken katsu meal, a BBQ beef meal, and spam musubi. Chicken was ok, beef was BURNT, and spam in the musubi was BURNT. Come on now. Burnt spam?! That’s the easiest thing on the planet to fry! Also, the macaroni salad was crazy dry — wouldn’t stick together at all. This meal(plus drinks) costed us $ 30. $ 30 wish I spent elsewhere! This didn’t hit the spot in any way whatsoever. Don’t come here!

The food is not worth the trip even if it’s just down the street from me. I was literally the only customer in the store and I had to wait about 5 mins to give my order, there were 2 ladies that saw me but they just continued to talk to each other in the back, I was finally helped by one of the ladies or should I say my order was taken, no customer service not even a smile or a hello, she didn’t even bother closing the lid, she just dropped it in my bag and walked away. I could get better service from a drive thru window honestly. I felt really depressed after I left this place I know that’s weird but this place was a total bummer.

When I am craving Katsu chicken, I come here. I love their macaroni salad and sometimes, I substitute the rice with more macaroni salad. I had their spam musubi but too much rice and little spam. I had their bbq beef and chicken are ok. The loco moco’s gravy can be salty. I don’t come to this location for service as their attendants don’t smile and are not friendly at all. More like they give you smirks, especially, if you ask a question. The food takes long to make, too; slow service so expect to wait. My one peeve is they are overpriced. Their mini meals were from $ 4.99 to $ 6.50. What a price hike. They give you a good portion if you eat in but take out, they put in a smaller container. Good thing I don’t come often!

When I entered the restaurant, it was pretty quiet for lunch. The clerk was kind and patient with the customers and me. The order took a long time since they do not have enough staff. I ordered the seafood combination with the ribs. I did not like the fried shrimp since it reminded the taste like the Polynesian Cultural Center. It was not my cup of tea. It did not taste right to me. The ribs tasted the best. It was a little chewy. The ribs were flavorful, so it was the only item that I enjoyed the best. I took my spam musubi home. They provide catering as well. Check out the pics! This customer ordered a wrong item, and the server was happily to cook the new item for her. She was trying to give back the item that she did not order, and the server told her to keep it. Cool! In that sense, it was wonderful to see a wonderful service. The ATM is out of order. However, you can always walk over to Chase or Wells Fargo located inside of Raley’s Supermarket to get some cash. There are plenty of parking since it is located in the Raley’s Center on Jarvis & Newark.
